Megamind is honestly one of the best animated films of all time
100% agree, even though this may not be my most favorite DreamWorks movie is a classic.
yep, yes it is🥰😮💨
Absolutely!
I wish it got an actual high end budgeted sequel. I am not hating on the new one made by paramount + but it won't feel the same with the low grade animation and no will ferrel.
One of my favourite animated movies- right after ''How to train your dragon (all parts)''. I wish they made sequel or two 🤩
"You're a villain, alright. Just not a super one."
"Yeah, what's the difference?"
"PRESENTATION!"
This is a brilliant film. The score from Hans Zimmer is absolutely brilliant.
My favorite part of the movie. My brother-in-law, who watched this before the MCU, said that Tony Stark made him think of this line.
Roxanne's clothing colors changed with her feelings towards Megamind, red when she's opposed to him, purple as she's getting to know him, and blue when she likes/loves him.
"He's like Elvis, but a superhero"... just waiting for the Music Man scene.
I guess he could've used even _more_ Elvis, couldn't he?
Space Dad is based on Marlon Brando in his role as Superman's dad in 1978's Superman: The Movie.
Megamind came out around the time as the first Despicable Me film. Despite this film being vastly superior, it remained underrated and without sequels whereas we all know how successful Despicable Me became
But we have a sequel...
@@skylerloggins4902There is no sequel, nuh uh, don't know what your talking about. The only Megamind content outside the movie is the short film Button of Doom and the DS Game.
@@DraconianBS but the sequel that is coming this year....
@@skylerloggins4902 nope, doesn't exist, no sequel.
TV series is releasing on March 1st I believe
12:09 - Megaman is also blue, so I can understand the confusion 😂
15:50 - "I'll just pack my thing and go" is so ridiculously funny but the sad moment distracted you🤣
24:16 - "We're gonna die" 😂
25:43 - That expression 🤣
Your mind being blown at every twist and turn makes this all the more entertaining 😁
Megamind's and Metroman's positions being reversed at the end is such a nice touch 😭
One thing that someone pointed out to me before was that the reason Metro Man chose music is because it’s the one thing that he is bad at and actually challenges him. Given his physiology(strength, speed, coordination, intelligence, etc…), there was nothing in life that he wasn’t immediately a savant at which when you think about is actually pretty sad. But with music and the creativity, his powers don’t help him which can be seen by how bad he is. That struggle to learn and improve is one of the things that gives life meaning.
I hope he learned to play eventually
This movie is pure genius
I guess you're can say the people behind the movie has a...
MEGAMIND!
Indeed! It was very creative.
It was so creative and different. The thing I really loved about Megamind's character was that he really was intelligent. And I mean more than the mad scientist creations. When Roxanne gave him the hint, during the last fight that he should look back right now, he glanced over his shoulder and got it immediately. And when trying to get to the car and Tighten grabbed him, he looked over his shoulder, judged the distance and provoked him to punch him, knowing the angle was right to get him to it. It's the little details like that that make this movie so great.
Also, the fact that Megamind, as a hero is a FAR greater asset to the city than Metroman was. Metroman was a mascot and only useful when there was a villain to criminal to fight. Megamind, with his intelligence, brainbots and access to resources could rebuild the city and upgrade the whole infrastructure.
During the scene when megamind “defeats” metro man you can actually see metro man on the Jumbotron behind megamind at the same time that he’s talking to mega mind on the microphone in the city
This is such an awesome movie and was quite ahead of it's time with its approach,
sadly it got steamrolled by "Despicable Me" at the time.
Megamind was a better movie, but wasn't as merchandisable as the Minions unfortunately turned out to be.
@@benn454 Agreed, a fishbowl in a gorilla-mech and robots with glowing red eyes are just not as kid-friendly as yellow eggs with googly eyes that make fart-noises...
I randomly saw this movie years ago and it instantly became one of my favorite animated movies. I love a good redemption story and the way they handled Metro Man was perfect. He was so great at everything naturally, that in the end Metro Man wanted to do something that was his choice and that he had to work for which is why he choose music. Music was something he was bad at and could improve with effort. Deep down Metro Man always knew that Megamind was not a villain, but more of a role forced on him much like the hero role he had.
My favorite detail ever on a movie is when Megamind tells Roxanne "I can explain" one of his signs in the background reads "No you can't"
I didn't notice that! That's so great!
The ultimate story on the difference between what "destiny" wants for you, the path life pigeonholed you in vs what you want for yourself. Mixed with a story about the difference between a "nice" guy and a good guy. With one of the best soundtracks in an animated film, typical of Dreamworks.
This is Will Ferrell's masterpiece, he really caught lightning in a bottle with this one, and I say that as someone who typically doesn't like his movies all that much. It's a shame this ended up getting overshadowed by Despicable Me, having come out the same year and both having a character(s) named Minion. IMO this movie was always the better one, but I guess it is kind of hard to market this story to parents for kids or put together a cohesive trailer for it. Plus the yellow Minions were much more toy marketable. Definitely deserved some sequels.
When I look at Megamind, I would imagine if he shared the same universe with Disney/Pixar's The Incredibles.
Her and lamby would absolutely die of love and cuteness if they watched any of the Ghibli movies.(except Grave of the fireflies)
Yeah, just please let's hope she watch the sub version, not the dub. I would like to enjoy it it also. the sub always are the best of the best
Howl’s Moving Castle is my favourite Ghibli movie though I think the first one I ever watched was Ponyo.
@@zamhobby9662 i agree, but the ghibli movies all have excellent American English dubs
Part of me wants to see her watch Spy x Family.
The problem is that the Studio Ghibli films always get blocked and don't allow anyone to post reaction videos, unfortunately. Some of the most amazing animated films of all-time, every second lovingly hand drawn and colored.
Just for giggles, David Cross does the voice of minion. He also did the voice of crane in the Kung Fu Panda movies.
If you haven't seen it already, you will absolutely adore 'The Emperor's New Groove.' There is also a cult classic by the name of 'They Call Me Bruce.' that is really good. Its about a Korean immigrant to America who's main selling point is he looks like Bruce Lee. He also unknowingly works for the Italian mafia who get the mistaken idea that he's a kung fu master. (he knows *some* kung fu but he's mostly a martial arts fan boy). Shenanigans ensue
That's exactly how you would say melancholy if you only ever seen it written.
(31:04) What do you call a superhero who likes to cook? - "Souper-Man!"
Personally, I would have gone with "Supper-Man", but "Souper-Man" is ok, too - I guess.
NO SOUP FOR YOU!
This had no right getting a chuckle out of me lol.
Hal is your typical “nice guy.”
He thinks that because he acts nice, he’s entitled to what he wants. Getting Metro Man’s powers truly exposed how much of an egotistical creep he is.
It’s not a common trope in media of the time, especially in an animated family film.
13:45 I love how you and Megamind shared the same expression🤣
I was living in Vegas when this came out but I happened to be in LA opening weekend and saw it at the Glendale Galleria. I just remember they had a cardboard stand display for this movie that was like 40 feet tall in the lobby which was crazy awesome!
Hal's name is an homage to both the silver and modern age Green Lanterns. Silver Age Green Lantern - Hal Jordan and Modern Age Green Lantern - John Stewart. 😅
"Space Dad" is an homage to Marlon Brando who played Jor-El, Superman's "Space Dad" in Superman the movie (1978). 😂
Destroying Metrocity is an atrocity. 😂
Monsters Vs. Aliens would be another good comedy
"Megamind" kind of ranks as one of those sleeper hits. I wouldn't really call it a Kid movie. I would call it a Family movie as everyone of all ages can enjoy it. It always deserved far more attention than it got.
12:09 Megaman? That's the wrong frenchise i think
The moral of the story: never give an emotionally stunted man-child super powers.
This movie had the misfortune of being released around the same time as the highly publicized Despicable Me even though it is a much better movie.
It came out at about the same time as Despicable Me but wasn't quite as friendly to small children and not marketed as well which is why it didn't get the sequels it deserved, though they kind of wrapped up the story nicely in this one.
When I started watching your reactions a few months ago, I thought this movie would be perfect for you to react to! So excited!
You can tell who it is with the watch bc their eye color stays the same. The warden’s eyes are blue but when mega mind is him his eyes stay green and minions eyes are brown
Hi Jax, really great to see you!😊 This is a very well made animated film! Look at you Jax, predicting Hal as a villain.😉 Space Dad seems to be a parody of Marlon Brando being Superman's father Jor-El. OMG, you guessed The Warden was Minion too, impressive. CODE: Great reactions to this great and well written animated tale, Jax!!!🎬👏👏👏👏
Op looks like a literal angel. The teeth, the hair, the charm even. What a complete shock
Thanks for another great choice. This and "How To Train Your Dragon" are my favorite animated movies, with "The Iron Giant" and "Shrek" close behind.
I dearly love this movie, and I love how you anticipated more of the twists than I did. Great reaction.
Will Ferrell is one of my favourite comic actors. From Austin Powers to Anchorman, he's just brilliant.
Iconic cast, terrific humor... DreamWorks just ain't the same as it was back then.
Love the reaction Jax!👍🏾
Yessss..... this movie is one of my favourite animated movies.... I love everything about this character and the story.
Love how he mispronounces his words.... it's so good. :)
So glad you watched it.... so so many good things about it :)
This was such a fantastic movie. The writing was amazing, and Titan (or Tighten lol) was such a great villain. His motivations and actions are completely understandable when you see him starting as a creeper "nice guy". I also really like how they handled the fact that Megamind romanced Roxanne as Bernard, lying to her about who he really is, and it was revealed mid-kiss, which works because it shows genuine intimacy on both sides, although there was deception. Roxanne didn't actually know the real Bernard before, so when she falls for Megamind as Bernard, it's Megamind's interactions with her as they're dating that create that affection. That affection initially culminates at the kiss, and by changing the watch she unmasked him, and was able to confront him and admonish him for the deception, so she got some justice for his deception.
Because he was unmasked and punished (the admonishment and rejection would be pretty painful), when he came for her help later, he came as himself and was honest with her from that point forward, including calling her "the most intelligent person he knows". He called himself MEGAMIND - he values his intelligence above everything, so calling her MORE intelligent is the highest honest complement he can pay. And she let him in, which was the beginning of her forgivness to him.
Then they worked together, including some conversation about their dating ("Did you ever look back?" "NO!" when of course she actually did). And then when she said that an apology was in order, and he said "that would be nice but make it quick", although that wasn't an apology, it was at least acknoledging that an apology was in order (he was making a joke of it, which is a callback to his original inability to see situations for what they actually are, but because he came to her apologetically, he knows that he did wrong, so his even responding to her request was an acknowledgment of it) which feels emotionally like this issue has been addressed.
Then ultimately she calls for him when she's on the TV, having fully turned around, forgiven him and then appreciated him and wanted him. And then Megamind gets to do the hero's entrance in the most epic hero's entrance ever, to the perfect song "Welcome to the Jungle" . Man, the music in this movie is just the best.
This movie really is a masterclass in storytelling.
David Cross is so good as the Minion 😄
This movie is a case study in Nice Guys. They should teach this movie in high schools.
5:57 I also said that too, "why is it warming up"??
grew up watching this and love it
I watched this when both of my kids were younger quite often, and we still occasionally watch it.
I always laugh with the jokes in the end 🤣
"melancholy" will forever be my favorite line
I haven't even started watching this yet and I KNOW it's gonna be a good one! This is such a good movie and so many good things to react to for a first time viewer!
they need to re-release this in theatres again
One of my all-time favorites!!
Hey, Jax. Glad you enjoyed this rare gem that doesn't get all the attention it so richly deserves. I'm also pleased that you love animation like some many people who grew up with the art form. Your reactions are worth taking a look at movies and other projects sone of have seen before with you and Lamby to give us a fresh perspective.
A few suggestions for future movies to watch.
THE INCREDIBLES,
A LEAGUE OF THEIR OWN,
THE NATURAL, since baseball season, will soon be coming soon.
SMOKEY AND THE BANDIT,
THE REPLACEMENTS with Keanu Reeves,
FAST TIMES AT RIDGEMONT HIGH, and NATIONAL LAMPOON'S ANIMAL HOUSE, just for laughs.
You look great today. Will be back soon. And keep going
Will Ferrell is perfect for this role 👌.
Yes he is!
Love this movie, I remember playing the video game with my nephew
That's so cool that there is a video game for it!
"I'll just take my thing and go!" :)
Oh I'm so glad to see you watched this, I hope you enjoyed! About to find out. 😂
I really like your reactions. This and Rango are my favorite animated movies. :)
Jax: "It stretches? That's so tiny!"
Boom! Sounds like Jax is an adept expert at humiliating guys...
Jax: "I will always need you."
Lamby: "..."
Wow! That silence was deafening! Awkward!
24:14
nah this one is the exception
I don't think anyone has ever predicted every twist in this movie since there was so many
I want to be able to forget this and watch it for the first time again
This is such a fun movie!! So glad more people are watching it now 😂
Also, rewatching some of your MCU reactions and you should really, really watch Agents of Shield when you're out of other MCU content. Whether or not it's "canon" it's some of the best MCU content ever, story and pacing and characters are all top tier, especially since you like Coulson! 😁
This movie is so underrated. Narrative masterpiece, and the humor is fantastic
I'm 52 years old and this is one of my favorite movies. I will watch it every time its on.
Fun Fact: THe Massive Death Ray explosion, took 3 months to animate... Yeah they just kept adding to it for several weeks and then months.
Bonus Fact: Over the course of the movie she slowly wears colours going from Red to Blue on the colour spectrum, until yeah at the end she is in Blue Dress.
During the Date with Bernard/Megamind, she is wearing purple for instance.
10:08 This right here is a well cultured woman. 😉
Sadly, Megamind was overshadowed by the first Despicable Me movie back in 2010, but after all these years people are discovering its brilliance!
God call, recognizing J.K. Simmons. In case you didn't know, Executive Producer Ben Stiller is Bernard. Did you catch that Brad Pitt voices Metro/Music Man?
I didn't know that was Ben Stiller!
Before Snyder with his greyscale DCEU nonsense THIS movie attempted to deconstruct the Superhero genre and did so PERFECTLY!
Love her relationship with Lamby almost as much as the reaction 🤣🤣🤣
The white-wig 'space-father' bit is a tribute to Marlon Brando's Jor-El from the Superman the Movie of the '70s.
At that time, Brando was paid the highest salary in Hollywood's history --- $4 million.
One of the best animated films no one saw...(or at least not enough people saw anyhow...) I'm so glad you got a chance to check it out! 💕
Haha! That's an excellent description of this movie. I hadn't even heard of it until recently.
Another great review!! You are the best!!! Love that laugh!!!!
Thanks so much! ❤️♥️
Pretty sure Lammie thought Jax was the minion.
24:13 you should never dismiss something of quality as being lesser just because children can watch it! It's a great movie
CODE: this is a super underrated movie that needs a lot more attention
CODE: I completely agree about this movie being awesome and wish there was a sequel.
@@reactswithjax CODE: there's a movie coming out on Peacock tomorrow
This is one of those movies I can put on while cleaning. I love it
JK Simmons plays multiple parts in the TV Show Crosspoint. It’s very worth watching, since he’s the good guy and the bad guy, from alternate universes.
14:01 That's a reference to the classic video game Donkey Kong.
Bernard was voiced by Ben Stiller
Awesome reaction of my favorite superhero movie!!!!!😊😊😊😊😊
No idea if it's intentional but Hal Stewart's name is a mix of 2 DC superheroes. Green Lanterns: Hal Jordan and Jon Stewart.
3:50
Twist: They know it's the warden, they just hate him for being such a hard-ass.
just incase you didnt notice megamind's shoes at 9:16 are Toothless from How To Train Your Dragon. which is another dreamworks animated movie
I didn't notice that!! Wow, thanks for pointing that awesome detail out!
This is a very good movie. Definitely in my top 20 animated movies of all times which is extremely crowded thanks to Studio Ghibli. The script really feels so thought out. There were a group of people that put a lot of time and effort into making this great.
Your voice is so pretty and soothing, so comfy
Megamind and Despicable Me came out around the same time (classic twin movies situation!) and I'm still amazed Megamind never got a follow-up while Despicable Me got many, many, many sequels. Don't get me wrong, both are pretty good. I think DM does marketability and cuteness better, hence why it won out overall, but Megamind has such a witty script and loads of great twists.
"He's like Elvis, but a superhero."
...
How did I not notice that, they foreshadowed him becoming Music Man all the way at the start! With that kind of incredible writing, its little wonder they never made a sequel, other than the short Button Of Doom that was quite good actually, they knew they'd never achieve the same heights of incredible writing quality.
No, they _did _*_not_* make a sequel. I have _no_ idea what you could possibly be talking about :P
It's been really interesting seeing so many reacters revive this film after so long. My ex-wife worked in the music department for DreamWorks Animation, so I saw pretty much everything starting with Shrek for a long time. Will Ferrell was just so funny - I mean, when isn't he, amirite? - in this one but it just wasn't a big hit when it first came out. It's great that people are finally watching it. Sorry Lamby didn't get see the Robo-Sheep.
Love this movie!
It's so good!
As a trained computer animator turned professional mascot, I can confirm "Presentation!" matters. This movie was under appreciated & under rated when it was first released, & great reaction!
It's all about the presentation! I'm so glad you had fun watching this!
REALLY great reaction, Jax!
Do you think $, power, fame, super powers, etc. makes you more of you like the super soldier serum or can it change you? Or both?
The pink makes you look like you’re glowing ✨
this, tangled, coco and inside out are my top fav animation movies
I love seeing Lamby
I didn't like this movie the first time I watched it, but it's grown on me with every re-watch. It's excellent.
The reviewing his story telling reminds me of a M.A.S.H. episode where hawkeye is like, "Well enough me talking about myself, how about you talk about me."
Awe you missed the "take my thing" joke.. So funny
(Comedy and Action) Movies to watch: The Ringer, Date Night , Jo Koy Don't Make Him Angry Netflix, Fired up , Benchwarmers , Cellular , Fluffy's Magic Mike Story , Stadium Fluffy Netflix , Transporter 1-2-3, Strays , Knight and Day
can you react to deadpool too jax?
Megamind and New Groove are my top 5 best comedy animated movies.
The music of this movie is made by great hans zimmer🎼🎵
Okay I am seriously losing my mind with every sheep reference you find, I was certain this one had none.
Hahaha! I am always happily surprised to discover sheep are the true stars of a movie!
I've loved your reactions since kung fu panda and now this ♥
Please do reaction movies that has sequels or continuation like Pirates of Carribean or Hang over.
Keep up entertaining people! Much love ♥♥♥
I didn't catch the joke originally that Hal's name is Tighten not Titan. Not until reading the name later in subtitles.
I missed that too!
this is my favorite movie ever
