@@soupsoup1031”from a blue suburb” wow. Rent free in your head at all times. It’s okay, just put the fries in the bag and smile with your three teeth.
What I like about Reese Bobby is that he wasn't ever trying to scam his son. He didn't try to mooch off his wealth. He only came back after being told Ricky was in trouble. He came to help without expecting any sort of compensation.
16:18 is the funniest scene 🤣 "what do you mean a visit? this my house" 🤣 "we're getting married ricky, and we're getting matching leprechaun tattoos" 😭 "i was gone 3 hours" 😂 "NO I HONESTLY DID NOT KNOW THAT" lmaoooo
theres some truth to the invisible fire. theres footage of drivers covered in invisible fire in race tracks, due to the methanol in the fuel used in race cars. it burns with no visible smoke, so only the one on fire knows theyre on fire. but it only happens happens in very bright environments, and Ricky was 'burning' during a night race, so theres that.
at 8:50..when he said engage slingshot.....In NASCAR, a team typically consists of multiple drivers, each piloting a separate car with their own crew chief, all under the same team ownership...think of that like a football team ....and your offensive line clearing a path for your Running back to run
it's easy to "not get" Will Ferrel's funniness when you don't watch it develop in chronological order since his SNL days. that said i respect Jen's opinion and strength of character to dislike and defend with valid points. some of the best reactions we get from this channel are the one's where the final scores are so far apart! ❤
The invisible fire is actually a real thing that happened. I forgot how it works or happened but basically it was a type of fire naked to the human eye. There was a serious incident in racing where multiple people got burned by it when something went wrong
Methanol. When some racing categories begun to use methanol fuel, it so happens that the flames produce by it are almost invisible during daytime (in the sunlight) as a result in 1981 when racing driver Rick Mears was briefly set alight during a pit stop during the Indianapolis 500 race, no one could see that he was burning alive.
This movie is a parody/spoof of _Days of Thunder_ with Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman. One of the few cases of the parody being more well-known than the original. Invisible fire is a very real danger. The high-grade ethanol used in racecar fuel burns white and is practically invisible to the naked eye.
I feel like these movies get funnier with rewatch, the quoteable lines just creep into me and my wives lives. But every time I watch this, I find myself saying aloud multiple times “That’s Academy Award nominated Actress Amy Adams”
I used to work at the Atlanta Motor Speedway. I’m not a NASCAR fan. But yes, there is something really cool about being there in person. I worked in the Suites where I worked directly under the owner and general manager, and I got to meet people like John Schneider and Chris Tucker. So being there in person is WAY much interesting, but not just because of the race.
This and The Bench warmers were being watched on repeat for me in 2006. Don't forget to watch Days of Thunder (another great NASCAR movie) along with Ford vs Ferrari, Rush, and Gran Turismo which are other great racing films.
A lot of one-liners from this movie made it into the lingo. The baby Jesus lines and “don’t put that evil on me” were said constantly when I was in high school, and it was years after this movie came out.
While I’m not the biggest Will Ferrell fan, this film will always be special to my family cuz it was the movie my parents saw on their first date, and it was also the first time my stepdad ever heard my mom laugh and that was the moment he said he fell in love with her. 😂
I gotta hand it to Jen, I was surprised she enjoyed it as much as she did, the moment I saw the thumbnail I was like "uhoh. She's not gonna like this movie at all" because Holden is right, this movie is like middle school humor. But overall she did enjoy it which surprised me! I get that she isn't a Will Ferrell fan, he's definitely an acquired taste. He's a hit or miss for me. Sometimes I think he's really funny in movies such as Blades of Glory (Please react to this movie!), Anchorman, and Talladega Nights. But other movies I do find him more obnoxious than funny. It just depends. I'm with you Holden, I love this movie and for a long time too, this was my favorite comedy movie for awhile.
The funniest part about this movie is that it was apparently pitched and accepted by the studio with just six words. Those words were "Will Ferrell as a NASCAR driver."
The make out scene during the prayer at the table Jen: I get it 😂😂 …. I had a history teacher in high school black guy, loved NASCAR, remember one day my friend and him were having a convo where my friend asked him, “why do you like nascar?” My teacher responded that “it’s exciting” to him. My friend then responded back with, “what’s so exciting about it?” Then also said, “OmG hE’s MaKiNg A lEfT tUrN!! Is that it? You get excited about someone going left in a circle?” We all started laughing even my teacher.
Also, the “slingshot” move that Ricky Bobby & Cal used is 100% legal. It’s good strategy, too. The way the cars are designed allows for the strategy to be effective
You talk about not being able to watch a NASCAR race on TV meanwhile Im watching simultaneously watching a sports car endurance race The 24 Hours of Daytona. And I will being watching it on TV for the next 20 hours strait lol.
In answer to some of your questions and just general info: The Cup Series (featured here) Has a three team limit, however, Hendrick Motorsports and Joe Gibbs Racing are grandfathered in at 4 cars. The No. 2 Xfinity Series has no limits on teams, and neither does the 3rd tier Craftsman Truck Series. Ricky Bobby would not have been allowed anywhere near the driver's seat at the beginning of the movie. He wouldn't have the required licensing to race. Jean Girrard was hired to win a points championship, however, starting as late as he did into the season, he'd have almost no mathematical chance of winning a title. When they shift gears for the "slingshot", that wouldn't work on most tracks unless it was a restart. The speeds are too high and the gear ratios would cause almost immediate engine failure. NASCAR cracks down pretty heavily on "Team Orders", usually with fines and point penalties. Officials are always monitoring team radios during the races. The "disqualified because they got out of their cars" is fake. Both cars were wrecked. In the event that something like that happened, the officials would go back to the scoring loops around the track, and whoever was leading at the last loop line would've won. The closest that NASCAR has come to a situation like the final race was the 2002 Xfinity Series Aaron's 312 at Talladega, where a majority of the 43 starters wrecked on lap 12, leaving only three cars that were in the hunt for the win, and it would eventually drop to two after the third place runner lost his engine towards the end of the race.
Def need to make a road trip to Dega (Talladega) and go to a race. Go to the short track (dirt) on Friday then big race on Saturday. I would also plan on a visit to Barber Motor Sports. Roll Tide y’all
Holden, i had been the black sheep in my family not being a nascar fan all my life. But I recently went to the recent Talladega race outside Birmingham and I can attest it is 100% way more fun in person.
I’m so glad you guys watched this film! One of my most quoted movies. Fun fact that house is about an hour away from me and sold in October of 2023 for 6.75 million dollars.
You mentioned “Stranger Than Fiction”, that’s my favorite Will Ferrell movie precisely because it’s not a comedy. He is a pretty good actor without relying on the middle school level humor, but that’s what sells. Same with Jim Carrey, “Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind” is his best, top ten all time personally.
6:55 Dale Earnhardt Jr. 8:54 in the NASCAR cup series you can only have four cars on a team but you can partner with other teams. The next series down (Xfinity series) you used to be able to field as many cars but looks like they limited them to four. 24:53 the look on Jen’s face when Cal was talking about his wife being unconscious during sex was great.
8:53 nascar is made up of a bunch of “teams” it’s just drivers under the same ownership they don’t necessarily work together like they do in this movie
a neighbour of mine calls me ricky bobby after i purchased a LHD mustang and that year i got gifted a beanie baby cougar at christmas from her young daughter that i keep on the dash
13:30 While I'm not a huge fan of Will Ferrell or his acting here, the invisible fire thing is actually a real concern...the fuel they use in these cars burns so cleanly that there's essentially no smoke, and in bright light (like daylight or the massive amount of lights they use during a night race) it's basically impossible to see without thermal imaging cameras, so only the person actually on fire would know (and with the flameproof suits they wear, they may not be fully aware of it right away)...that's why they keep thermal cameras with the emergency response crews, so they can check the crash to make sure there isn't a roaring fire that nobody can see before they rush in.
You two should watch Will Ferrell in “Everything Must Go”… he plays an alcoholic who gets kicked out of his house by his wife who throws all his belongings into the yard. So he camps out in his front yard while having a yard sale to sell his stuff. While it’s not really a great movie, Will was pretty great in it. One of his few dramatic roles he’s taken on… I wish he would do more. And maybe Jen would like that side of him more.
To answer your question yes there are teams in nascar. They're called teammates but they are still racing against each other. It's more like a sponsorship than anything else
Gotta say first Talladega is in Alabama. But also the saying “sweet baby Jesus” has been around way before this movie came out. It’s a very popular saying in the south as far as I know. I’ve been to Daytona and it’s basically like Talladega and it is super fun if you ever go to a race those two are the best in my opinion!!
I think this a fun film, Sacha Cohen steals the show as Jean Gerrard. For a Murray into motor racing froma more serious perspective, please do both Rush and Ford v Ferrari.
I haven’t watched a race on tv in over 20 years. But i went to the Richmond Raceway a few years ago, and it is a ball 😂 the tailgating was really similar to some of the concerts I’ve been to. Loads of fun.
yes there are racing teams and are technically racing against them in a sense but you can also help a teammate get passed a driver from another team or block for a teammate so another driver can't get passed
So when I was in college, I got to work at the Daytona 500 so I can agree NASCAR is better in person but I can’t watch a full race. A good 10min of seeing/feeling the cars was enough for me. Also to Jen, one of Will Ferrals best movies is Semi Pro and Step brothers
Absolutely one of my favorite modern comedies, maybe top three. I love how every character is just out of their minds. Even Amy Adams and Ricky’s mom are unhinged. Step Brothers is great, too but it has ration Talladega Nights has none of that. I revel in the insanity.
I have some movie suggestions: The Shawshank Redemption (1994) Apollo 13 (1995) Glory (1989) Legends of the Fall (1994) Balto (1995) Young Woman and the Sea (2024) Braveheart (1995) The Iron Claw (2023) Superbad (2007) Bottoms (2023) Booksmart (2019) The Favorite (2018) Team America World Police (2004) Last of the Mohicans (1992) Poor Things (2023) 1917 (2019) Fight Club (1999)

It was in IndyCar or F1, they use (or used?) a WAY different fuel than stock cars. (I want to say methanol, but I could be wrong)
