It’s a live service game, where you can buy everything by just playing the game. That alone is worth trying it out
my personal favorit thing about the game is the fact the game is not meant to be taken seriously, it's one big satirical inside joke that everyone is willing to play along that any kind of toxicity that still arise, we simply said "I heard treason" and the likes, effectively stomping out toxicity without the need to fuel the fire, that's very rarely seen in any kind of fiction works

Because it's mostly a peaceful non toxic community (mostly) and everyone is generally willing to work together and communicate, the guns and stratagems are satisfying and the audio is perfect except the audio from enemies walking, and it's a well done live service game

Strangely enough, one bit of toxicity came from people who hated the Creekers when the first attempt at Operation Swift Disassembly failed. Ironic that Space Vietnam Vets were being hated on.

@SemiOmni314 yeah there is a little bit but just compare it to fortnite or cod. It's a good community and game, and better than both games despite being so different it exceeds expectations in almost every way and has infinite replayability
@@blitzhunts3433I know where that hate came from because ironically I'm part of the group that hate stemed from before it mutated. The Draupnier and Mantes vets have a slight chip on their shoulder over the Creek and the fall of the Creek was because they wouldn't help us.
But those who took it to being hostile to Creek Crawlers felt more like Bug stompers who weren't dedicated to fighting the Bots, because while the Mantes and Draupnier vets have that chip, they were fighting to support the Creek.
I'm an old Milsim gamer (and rpger). I have always loved games where people fight a war together, since well over 20 years ago with WW2ol which was probably the first where thousands of people fought ww2 on land, air, and sea. HD2 is really good at selling the Role Play of being a hell diver and the story of a galactic war.
i would love a WW2 game that played exactly like this!

Bro this game brought back my hope in online gaming communities. With previous games I'm in such as league and overwatch, this game just makes you HAVE FUN. Just find a group in the plethora of helldiver discords out there and you have a group! If whoever reads this is on the fence with this game, the moment you get the game, hit me up and I can teach ya how to get into it. God I love this game.
I remember my first time starting up hd2 and how amazed i was at the details. A HD1 vet friend showed me around and i couldn't stop saying "They didn't have to do that" and my friend always said "but they did anyway!"

Helldivers 2 makes me nostalgic for Mass Effect 3 Multiplayer.
And it's cool that the map music in hd2 is like the music of me2
I love extraction shooters since ME3 multiplayer. I sank hundreds of hours in that, and it gave me so much joy to play...I can see sparks of that experience in Helldivers 2. That's what makes me love this game, despite the bugs and crashes. It's about how it makes me re-live parts of my youth. It's amazing.
I love how each faction is different and requires a different response in order to beat them. You dont fight bots like you do bugs and when new factions roll out I hope that trend continues

2. you forgot to mention how many times this game is like a movie the other day I was doing a solo stealth run and the automatons patrol was walking towards me so I hid in a divot and just watched them walk by with so much fear in my eyes
Been playing video games since the Gameboy brick and Nintendo, my first console was the PlayStation (the very first one, not the PS1), and only ever played games that were fun to me, be them single player or multiplayer. The only real "live service" games I do enjoy is MMOs (currently FFXIV). Every modern game these days likes to follow the same old tired model, and when I heard Helldivers 2 was doing something similar, but far different, I'll admit, I was hesitant to play at first. But after watching friends play and seeing how much it actually cost, I gave it a shot.
This is a purchase I will never regret. It brings me back to the days of Left 4 Dead with my friends! At this point, I have over 244 hours of playtime in HD2, a high ranking level, and have purchased everything (at the time of this comment) from the Warbonds and the Requisitions/Samples. And even with everything unlocked, I still dive in to play solo and with friends. Why? Because its FUN!!
Honestly the dark souls dive is what sold it for me. That combat dive makes this game feel so epic
This is my favorite game now, at this point it is just art :)
One word: Immersion
I’m happy that I was here in this moment for the Helldivers movement cause it’s awesome ..I have never been an online player much before it and though I just preferred single player games but this has shown me a whole other side to gaming
My favorite part of the game is that there is small difference that make each planet really distinctive.
Hellmire deserve the hell in it name, fire tornados in close environments and narrow passages.
Erara prime and its constants sand stormes and almost 0 visibility.
Tibit being a jungle swamp with a constant purple filter and durge with its massive dunes and map cut in half by mountains
I play solo and have only played with randoms once or twice yet I still feel like there's teamwork in the game, I mean I guess the game is built on teamwork but idk, the community isn't just playing for the sake of playing, there's an actual reason, Defending planets, liberating planets, spreading (managed) democracy. Everyone has a shared goal and instead of the usual battle royale or team vs team shooter we have this fully teamwork based game where there's no fighting between players and we can work together to get achieve the goal. Other than a few toxic members of the community everyone seems to be really nice to eachother!
My point is HD2 is one of the best games to come out in years and it's a breath of fresh air for gaming as a whole. You said most of what I just said but I wanted to share my opinion as well. btw congrats on 180k hopefully you get 200k soon!
I feel like another influence rather it is intentional for me to get this impression or just a consequence but Berserk although it's a book. Mainly because you get knocked down, thrown around by enemies, and you get back up and are always struggling in some way and yes I know its a stretch and a half. Also it shows on your character by the damage they took and you get covered in slime fighting the bugs and also a detail I noticed in my few days of playing is being weighed down in water and sinking which adds so much immersion to me. Then also I like the politic commentary and satire. It reminds me of how someone fearful back during the 60s and what not being afraid about the spread of different forms of governments throughout the world and it all works so good. Also let's be honest being able to call in the eagle attacks is by far the best part.
The best stratagem is making friends and having fun. Then they dive in and save your team. 👍🍻
Because it’s fun, it’s immersive, it’s nostalgic, it looks amazing but runs well and it’s really, really fun.
Yeah, I brought up the movesets feeling like they were ripped right from MGS 5 too, i was even playing some xcom and was getting helldiver vibes from their destructible environs and small squad tactics. Im also constantly marveling at the little details i find, finding warning stickers on guns or seeing the hellpods lock in and the next ones slide into position when you ready up for a mission. the gun play is some of the most authentic you can get without going full milsim, and being a pve game they dont have to change the weapons too much to cater to balance. Just enough to make room for new toys they might be adding
The Free cape we got is also have some drama about it too as there are certain people will gun you down for wearing that cape or call you a traitor
Also the game may done Live service just right but it still doesnt make the community better. We still have a toxic fanbase for a PVE game
I just wish there was a better delivery method for all this story. I play alone or with randoms since none of my friends have this game, very few people talk. If it it weren't for TH-cam videos like this one I'd have no idea about any of this. Having to be in Discord servers or rely on third parties to tell the story of the game really takes something away. I'd like to see the delivery method improved.
I really hate it when I hear "This GAME has awesome story and lore!... Just join the [insert third party out of game application here] to be part of it!"
yea that is true, but you can also talk to the NPCs on the ship and they will tell you things
The ship commander lady who greets you is PISSED about the automaton offensive lol. Every time there's a new event it's worth taking the time to see if there's some new dialogue around the ship, it's always good stuff.
Thats because its an actual war happening, and its progression depends as much on the players as on the developers.
Malevolon Creek wasnt something PLANNED. So there is no way they could tell that story in game. Its Just something that happened organically because of players behavior.
That said, the major orders are the way the story progress. And they Tell you what you need to know in game for those orders.
A lot of this story is covered by the AI officers on your ship and the TV broadcast running there. Take some time to listen and read that, as well as the major orders and dispatches in the navigation screen and you can keep up with everything happening without ever going to a outside channel. Everything is told there as well, only exception being the stuff players do real time which the developers adapt too. That can only be read about after the fact ofcourse.

I got everything in the game and I still have a blast playing with friends or helping lower ranks.
I love the game for all reasons stated in this video. If I may add one more. I love HD2 because it got me off of COD. It's caused a bit of separation between me and my XBOX buddies though. They're STILL playing COD. WELP! Sucks for them. 🤣

Teamwork and feeling of extracting cover in blood oil or bug slime after a successful mission for democracy makes this the best game imo. Then drinking a big ol cup of liber tea
My favorite part of this game is that it’s actually hard and punishing and it forces you to make a bunch of high risk high reward moves in every game. Feels so satisfying when you pull off hero moves and it’s just fun to have a pve game that requires you to have game sense and think on your feet, it’s not just about having grinded enough to have "the best gear" like most pve games.
I work 12 hour a day but I always make time for helldiver, it’s a thing I must do 😂
They didn't "do the impossible"
they just update the game on a monthly frequency, whereas most "live service" games are slow and do like 3~6+ month "content updates"
look at mobile games for example, most update content every 1 to 2 weeks, a month at most, literally all they have to do is just keep the content coming to keep people invested.
there was some positive changes they made though, like the warbonds being permanent and you can purchase them whenever.
Im honestly getting sick of the game purely based on the players...
I know of a gaming group thats currently kicking pugs at extraction in exchange for friends to get easy rewards and ive been kicked from groups for having "the wrong build", picking up falled samples, accidentally killing allies or from splitting from the group.
(Australian hours, I dont face these issues during Americans hours)
The reason I'm not playing right now is because right as I shot my Q-Cannon, a tremor hit which made me misfire into an ally, I said sorry, used reinforcements and was kicked for it. That was with 1 minute left until pelican landed.
Imo.. kick feature needs to be a voting thing. Even if it's just 1 other yes vote.
Jeez thats rough, ive had that happen before with an autocannon misfire that nearly glanced my brothers scalp, we just laughed it off but i made sure to learn some trigger discipline after that.
Now if things like tremors hit i always switch to a non-collateral weapon like an smg (if using a scorcher, breaker incendiary, or arc shotgun) or my primary (if its non-collateral). And additionally ive trained myself with the arcthrower and flamethrower so i never accidentally tk someone.
Incidentally the devs are aware of the kicking issue and are thinking of ways to stem the problem. In the mean time, if you want to avoid getting kicked out of games by snowflakes and trolls, then just host your own session. I and many a helldiver would love to join your games.

I have been hosting quite a few lately due to those issues and I'm super glad they've noticed some of the trolls.
I really need to play more of this I keep missing cool stuff from the live service. That being said even if I had been playing every day I still probably would’ve missed that 2 billion terminid order
Not to mention everybody under Joel that's part of the smaller less powerful game master team they can watch games directly and influence individual games there's so many stories about people losing all of their reinforcements and suddenly getting their whole team dropped out of nowhere and as they fought barely fight off the enemy they get helped with a 500kg out of nowhere etc. Amazin emergent story telling
Also the way you dive sneak roll turn your aim around as you're laying down making your whole body turn and climb is basically almost shot for shot a carbon copy of metal gear solid 5 which is a big positive because I believe metal gear solid 5 is probably one of the closest that a video game has ever come to giving you full control of a strong human body with great physical capabilities and now we have that on the galactic scale warfare
The deadliest stretrgem: teamwork.
There's some FOMO in Helldivers 2, but it's so nitpicky and niche. Like yeah, I have finally gotten the Arc Blitzer and the Scorcher, but I'll never be able to use them on the Creek now. It's that level of niche FOMO. The level of FOMO where it's petty and embarrassing and I start experiencing DIBI. DIBI is the opposite of FOMO. Some people have that Fear Of Missing Out, I sometimes have Disgust In Being Involved. Case in point would be the extreme response against the Fallen Heroes' Vengeance cape. It's a fun gesture from the devs. It's a self made monument. It's us having fun. Ultimately we (as a societal whole) can only lament and rage at the success of others and celebrate their failures. If this was untrue then no one would have any issue with a free cosmetic and the everyone purely focused on the Terminid front would be trying to make their own Malevelon Creek situation (my personal candidate would be Hellmire, Estanu, and Crimsica as the E-710 pains in the a*ses.) Instead they decided they would stoop to kicking and team killing anyone wearing that cape. No case of FOMO there; only DIBI.
I would say that it's us, the player base, that are defining the "seasons" of the "battle passes". Yeah, Arrowhead is releasing content whenever they want based on whatever events are going on in the game, but I honestly feel like we have just closed out the prologue of the game. We just barely shoved the Automatons off the map only to have them show back up in a different sector with a bigger force. It feels like the "pilot episode" is over and now we're on to episode 1. The Prologue was the initial Automaton eradication, TCS, and E-710 harvesting. That's kind of now either done or they're now rooted as plot points. The TCS will probably backfire, E-710 will be an on going struggle and trigger for events, the Automatons have a more appropriate warfront with them having taken Cyberstan (the hypothesized goal for them,) and there's still room for more "challengers to approach."
So, the game is a cyclical war, if this one ends, you will be able to revisit the creek soon! Don’t worry
There are helldivers committing treason against those wearing the fallen heroes vengeance cape? That smells like high treason to me. Its time to notify the Inquisitors of this undemocratic act of misguided aggression.
WOW red Faction geo mod tech sold that game to me even tho it was only certtain walls and things that could blow up
This game feels like a gaming phenomenon on par with Halo back in the day, or the original Call of Duty. This game will shake the foundations of modern gaming in unprecedented ways just like the greats of the past.
What I think contributed largely to Helldivers 2's success post-launch, is that it lets you roleplay and immerse yourself into the game, without reminding you at every single fucking turn that you're not a helldiver, but a consumer. A user.
I've been watching a lot of helldivers lately and I wish I had it so much.

I thought I was the only one who thought the diving, sneaking, climbing and lacking a jump button was very similar to metal gear solid. I definitely could use a cardboard box strategem.

2:13 I came here to praise Helldiver 2 but after seeing you run Gas Strike on automatons, I can’t.

Automatons are more likely to hang out in the gas longer. Termanids make a bee line to the nearest helldiver which isn't all bad since you might lead a group into and through the gas, but having the automatons linger after a grouped up bot drop also has advantages.

3:26 in a D&D game, the players aren't trying to DEFEAT the game master, they are playing in tandem with the game master and the game master is curating their experience in a way that makes it enjoyable for everyone at the table. The same goes for Helldivers, the game master is not an adversary- if they were, they could simply flip all the switches to make it so no one can ever win

I also think that is it influenced by WH40K - Hulks remind me of the Juggernauts :) Its a fucking great game for 40 bucks. I am player since my childhood, these days games really have changed not to best in my opinion. So I can really say I´m impressed by the game. The commuity reminds me a little bit of the com back then when WoW 2005 was released.
Arrowhead literally gave the middle finger to big AAA studio by doing the complete opposite for a live action game.
No PVP, everything can be earn by playing the game, no FOMO, and best of all, it's extremely fun.

My all-time greatest game list has Shadow of the Colossus right at the top. No DLC, no battlepass - no online required. Just a fun, simple game-play loop that tells a meaningful story and doesn't hand hold you. Now, that being said - who thinks someone like me is EVER interested in what "improvements" modern gaming has made? Do these companies really think I want DEI and other unnecessary content in the game? More-so... Do they think I want to help their bloated budgets by over-charging for it?
Playing with friends in 2024 makes me feel like I’m playing with friends in 1994
Helldivers is an interesting case. However, this touched on some things that are more fundamental to the current state of gaming. I think there's a huge difference between what makes a game commercially successful and what makes it successful as a game. Gamers would love to not have to deal with all the cliche garbage in games now, but publishers insist on this stuff because it keeps engagement up through FOMO, weird tie ins that appeal to 12 year olds, and gameplay that encourages repeating the same thing 100x for the next reward and dopamine injection. Even the best online game-as-a-service title is going to be lost, forgotten bits when the publisher eventually decides to nuke the servers.
i like this game, i might buy this when i can. but for me its a more fun, and engaging warframe. stone me... but it is my POV. i played a LOT of warframe, and i burned out bc it became borring to me. but helldivers2 looks super chaotic fun, what i like

Getting 1000 Übercredits in 1 day is quite ambitious ... Would mean you have to search the whole map ... Some take up to 40 minutes ... Others are limited to ~12
