- Hello and welcome back to Downloadable Content! Today I'm joined by the one and only @TheBaron from the Blade and Sorcery team as we discuss the upcoming launch of 1.0, the Crystal Hunt Update!

I love that they are trying not to make the progression "too gamey". I like the current challenges of defeating armor without magic and doing parkour without magic. I am hopeful that a non-mage progression through the game will continue to have those kinds of interactions.

Baron here! Just checking in with some additional answers. I don't think there were too many things in the actual video, so I gave a quick look over the video comments and grabbed a few questions there too (but couldn't get to every single one, sorry!) And thanks for all the well wishes in the comments, guys!
The beast rock in the news screenshot - no it was not inspired by Diddy Kong Racing, lol. I looked up the image you were referencing Drifter, lmao. I see where you are coming from though! I asked Kaou about this and he said there was no great conspiracy to it, and that he just got inspired by some of the shapes in the level blockout that was given to him and decided it looked kind of like a snake or something, so he ran with that. He said his motivation was that it simply would be cool to add this into the environment.
The door in the cave will be related to Crystal Hunt, and the purpose is yet to be revealed. It will be a surprise. :)
When PCVR update is ready it will; drop without delay and won't be held back by Nomad. In fact only once it releases will we then turn to doing the Nomad port, and this work will be significant... likely months as their is a mountain to port over, but I cant say for sure right now until we start. But the good thing to consider, it would only be taking long because we intend to attempt a port of everything from PCVR! So the Nomad update will be massive too.
The tutorial doesn't relate too your background and is more like the introduction to Crystal Hunt itself. The tutorial elements are just the basic controls of the game as you navigate that scene. Learning how to use spells will be covered on the skill tree, as there is text and video.
In Crystal Hunt you can be a basic mage with literally only the most basic spell (eg gravity push only for gravity mage) or you can be a guy with nothing. All backgrounds can use telekinesis on weapons to pick them up, which is a QOL thing, but you dont even have the power to throw objects, weapons, or enemies with TK. You are stripped of everything!
There is no major additions to the stealth system like throwing coins, etc - though that would be cool! There is just one stealth related skill on the skill tree but the mechanics of stealth are as they currently are.
Whatever game is released on Thunder Road 2 would be for Meta and Pico most likely, yeah. How it will work I have no clue - Maybe it will be a PCVR version and a standalone version like Nomad, but I have no idea as it is too early to say.
Not sure how performance will be for 1.0. Obviously we are aiming for good, but right now it is up and down as we are actively working on it.
On ideal release date - not being a smart ass, but the ideal date was last year!!! We are def late with this, but it just wasn't ready to release and the work load was huge, so not much we could do. So the best release date for us right now is ASAP.
On future WF games, no we are not tied to any specific genre and would look forward to branching out. But one thing all WF games will have is physics, simulation, modding, sandboxy freedom to play as you like, and VR of course.

This is awesome to gain insight into! Just one question... If I wanted to, hypothetically, stockpile every crystal I'd need to fill up the skill tree and then use them all at once right before the end of the game, would the way the game works allow for that?
@@BRNG2042 Yeah it would be possible because you could just keep the crystals in your inventory, but it would be extremely hard mode to get to the end without using any skills! 😁

I have a question if you're still taking them. Is there any chance the team will return to the B&S series with a sequel? You made it sound like everyone was disappointed at the engine/spaghetti code preventing the game from being so much more and that the team has developed skills to make something grander for your next project.
I really hope this is the case because as much as you say the team are planning to pull out all the stops for 1.0, the lack of Roleplaying mechanics in a game I feel the urge to LARP in is such a missed opportunity.
Obviously another studio could come along and make a spiritual successor, but it wouldn't be the same crew with the same experience.
Drifter, please man, I know you did podcast stuff before and it was a while ago, but dude, MORE OF THIS, this was great not only are you a good vr content gaming guy or whatever, you are a GOOD INTERVIEWER, please man, you need to do more interviews with like people in the vr community, that would be so sick. hearing that the npcs will have new magic abilities makes me extremely excited, i had come to terms with the idea of them being more or less the same in terms of behavior

As a quest 2 user I want to say that I appreciate the work you guys do and that you are trying to port it over to my little potato makes me so happy, I'd honestly wait another year for the update if it meant nomad would be more or less 1 to 1 with b$s! although I hope I won't have to 😅
Amazing stuff, a development team that clearly cares about their community! Can't wait for 1.0, but also can't wait to see what the new engine lets the team do next. My vote is for a feudal Japan-themed offshoot, Bushidō & Samurai. Or... there's always mods!
my main question would be if there were more outfits, or hairstyles & stuff to customise your character, or even the npcs/enemies
Once 1.0 comes out, I'll be sad that big updates are over, but VERY excited to see that what kinds of mods we'll be able to make, especially since we won't have to update our mods every new update.
Question for the Baron: If the pcvr version is ready to ship while nomad is a few weeks or months off, will pcvr be held back by nomad so they release at the same time or will nomad release after
He’s already said in the road to 1.0 that nomad would be releasing either same time or after pcvr so no pcvr will not be held back
I'm glad, honestly, I'm already dying of hype waiting, and it being held back for the nomad release would make me cry.

Hi these are some questions for the Baron
- does the door in the mountain have a purpose now?
- is there a tutorial for like gravity and such based on what you choose to start your character with?
- is it just the basic spells when you choose your crystal at the beginning, like just gravity push and no flying or will it be the whole thing that we know from base game except telekinesis?
I think they have said in a past interview that you will likely be weaker than your sandbox character.
my guess is either the door is to a portal to the new dungeons or the end of the game
I am so glad that 1.0 is a free update, that was my main worry about 1.0 but now i am a lot happier after seeing this, and The Baron and everyone else at Warpfrog, you guys are amazing

Hey Barron, as a Blade And Sorcery player I was wondering if we would be able to fully customize out characters looks like in Fallout, or Skyrim, or stuff like that? I feel like one of the biggest parts to a game is to be able to make your character “your own”.
I know it's completely unfeasible in Blade and Sorcery but some time in the future what I would LOVE to see in a Blade and Sorcery like physics based combat game is....
Imagine a cross between Blade and Sorcery and Ultimate Epic Battle Simulator
You play as one soldier in an army of thousands, going up against an army of thousands, each victory you can move up in rank until you are a legendary hero commanding the army from the battlefield

Hey Baron about the fps improvements is it a huge difference or is it just slight improvement?
Will you be releasing the pc update before the quest 2 update or will they be released at the same time?
I'm very new to vr and out of all the games, blade and sorcery scratches that itch. Can't wait to see more. I'll play for about an hour as a wake up exercise.

yo i can i ask if there is going to be an endless dungeon mode? not something like endless waves were there isn't really any stats or anything like that for instance a how many enemies killed in your endless run how many coins you picked up etc because currently there doesn't feel like a point to endless other than just to hit things could we get a kill count thing or something like that or whatever?
oh and did you fix the thing where an enemy runs into you and does damage or the whole enemy running into you in general that has been my only gripe with the game

If it aint in the base game, a smithing system would actually be nutty, if not im sure some glue devouring modder will churn it out in like, a week probably once 1.0 comes out

i really wish you could get npcs to be distracted by something falling without them pulling out their weapons and scanning the entire area like they're training for the army lmao

that weird door in the cave at the player home is a set of dalgarian ruins, or some other dalgarian chamber. maybe a place where wizards were trained/did rituals, since you get magic in the tutorial when you reach that spot
Will there be boss battles. Like master mages. Knights. Etc. and the king.

i think they said no conventional boss battles, but i can imagine the outpost rooms that summon waves being something like a boss fight due to the difficulty
I have one question though, can you ally with certain factions or are you just lone wolf killing all no matter the faction?
Question: Will the spell vfx be optimized? My pc already struggles with merge spells and looking at the sneaks it looks like my pc will explode.
Do you have any idea how large the update will be for pc, even if it’s only a estimation?

Drifter you should check out the new ghetto (gun mod) update in the next mod showcase it’s pretty amazing and honestly one of the most impressive mods out there. I know you have shown it before but it’s gotten even better since.
Question for Baron:
Will you guys be making grabbing enemy’s less overpowered (also punching) You can run up and grab it punch then they are on the ground pretty much dead. Will this be a skill? Let me know!

Hey what is the armor skin you are using for the background gameplay
Medieval Armory armor sets by EmClear on nexus mods, keep in mind there are multiple sets of armors and if I remember correctly a pack that includes all the sets, go check it out!
Will the arena maps be used as like, fighting enemies in waves and earn gold from it to use in the shop?
Now, I know that requesting features is probably not going to go anywhere, but having the ciphers solved automatically would be too easy, but I think that needing to constantly switch between reality and VR to write stuff down would be extremely immersion breaking and kind of go against the whole point of the medium of vr, so I would love (maybe in a QOL update) if there would be a way to solve the ciphers within the game aside from the auto translation.
@TheBaron is there an ideal release date that the warp frog team would like to push 1.0 out for or are you guys just playing it by ear?
Also completely unrelated to 1.0 but is there a specific area you are designated to developing within the warpfrog team and games?

As someone who literally just got a VR set and booted this game up for the first time in 4 years, I hope the tutorial is more polished.
Simply put, it said I can't lose the zipline hook, so I tested that, couldn't spawn a second one, and died by fall damage trying to find the first one. Then the game spawned me at the base of the zipline rope and I felt so cheated that I spent 3 minutes manually climbing the damned thing.
I leave for boot June 24th I hope I can check this out before then

Hey Baron, if you see this, I have a question related to NPC AI. Will they be smarter? As in they won't trip over a dead body, will they be able to climb over low walls to get to you? Stuff like that. I know you said the NPCs will be harder to fight, but whata about the AI?

nomad will release after PCVR. It could take a month, or maybe more according to the interview.
