I received a catering order from Subway at like 8:30am.. It was 42 box lunches going to a industrial complex. Before I left for that delivery I heard the girl say that they had a second one at 10:30am It was a initial pay of $25 but when I dropped it off I found out that the customer gave me a $90 tip. I then went back to the same subway about 10 minutes after 10 and waited to get the second catering order. I received that order and it was the same type of order about 43 box lunches. Initial pay out this time was $30. When I dropped that one off, the pay came with another $90 tip. I made $235 in two orders. So awesome. Largest tips I have received.

We should be able to file a class action law suit against DD for not showing the total amount from the start... We could argue that they are interfering with our decision making on orders as an independent contractor
Technically they are supposed to provide all the information necessary on the offer for us to decide whether or not it is in our best interest to take that offer...

    • @unknownhumanbeing7935
      @unknownhumanbeing7935 ปีที่แล้ว +18

I totally agree. They should tell you exactly what you will be paid. It, also, hurts the customer. There have been some orders that I'm not sure if I should take and they end up being great payouts. A customer tips well and wonders why it's taking a while for someone to pick it up, this can be discouraging.

Yup. 6.75 is magic over here in Bellingham ,WA. I'm a top Dasher with the catering bag opt in. Over 2000 total deliveries. I get my biggest tips on what I call "free lunch Friday". That's when the boss of a company buys lunch for the whole office. I once got a $63 tip on a chipotle order. 5 giant cardboard boxes full of food. Good thing I had an SUV or I wouldn't have been able to take it all. I can also say if you don't see a number that is divisible by 25, like $7.89, or $8.23, there won't be a hidden tip. Because those weird odd numbers are when the customer is tipping on a percentage of their order. Like 15% of $23.47. it's all about those 6.75, or 9.50 orders.

Thank you for the tips, this really helps! I did have a low payout delivery few weeks ago that really surprised me. McDonalds order (i know, i know...) $4.25, 4 items, but mileage was literally less than 1/4 a mile, right across the street. So i took it. To my surprise I dropped off the order and got a $20 hidden tip. Never ever has that happened on a below $6 order for me. Guess I hit a glitch or got lucky that day.

A couple items you didn't mention:
When it hides tips, the number it changes it to will always end in a multiple of .25 (.25 .50 .75 .00). An order with a payout of $7.17 for example would never have a hidden tip, it would make that $7.00 instead if it was hiding tips.
There is also a minimum amount it will not go below. You kinda were close with your 'magic number' idea, but basically it's not going to hide so much that the order looks like crap and no one takes it. I have never seen a hidden tip on anything where the original offer was less than $6

False. I've had hidden tips on orders with odd numbers such as $9.65, $7.29.
Unfortunately, some people have picked up on this and will tip in a manner to make the payout look odd in the hopes that it will lead to a greater chance of getting picked up faster.

I love this channel... The other day I took a short distance (about a mile), eight item delivery from Pizza Hut to a medical clinic. It was offered as a $6.00 delivery but paid just under $25 (small base pay with a $22 tip). So orders that are routed to a business district and appear large enough for multiple people are a good thing to look out for, esp. during lunch hours on weekdays. And also the the typical size of the menu items. Eight items from Taco Bell may just be for one or two people but eight items from a pizza place is probably for a group.

Thanks for your videos dude!!! They are the most informative and the ones with the most relevant information, I have been learning from you for the past 9 months and I can say I’m a better dasher because of these videos. I know exactly what I’m talking about when accepting orders from fast food restaurants, but in my 3k deliveries my biggest tip was a McDonald’s order I delivered at 5:30AM to the Four Seasons Hotel that’s 3 miles from my house, got the initial order for $12, 34 items, when I got to the hotel the customer was waiting for me, I handed him the order and he gave me a $100 bill, plus when I completed the delivery on the app it had a $33 hidden tip. A McDonald’s order going to an apartment building or a regular house will never have a hidden tip, but if the delivery is going to a luxury hotel, then it just might. Plus McDonald’s breakfast is not that bad. Cheers Bentley!

    Good Stuff as usual.
I've been doing many of the things you point out here - kinda came naturally to me - but I have watched a lot of your videos so you get credit too ;)
RE: Part timers not seeing big hidden tips/over pay.
IN MY MARKET - these seem to come either Before lunch rush or After.
And that makes sense - 'corporate' puts in the big order at a time to facilitate the order being fulfilled in a reasonable time - preparation and delivery - remember - they got stuff to do...they have a schedule.
If hard core part time cherry pickers run only rushes...they may not see the hidden tip big orders because of this.
Hmm; now that I think of it...$6.75 - $7.75 seems to be the magic numbers here in my market...learned something new!
    Thank you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Watched this video yesterday. Tried it today and it worked. One order was $6.75. 11 items 2.4 miles. Final pay $9.50. Another was $6.25 w/7 items going 2 miles. Final pay $9.25. Then just to see the outcome,, I took a 3 item order going 3 miles paying $6.25 and final pay was $6.25. So it's like least amount of items means the pay is Final. Large orders for $6.25 OR $6.75 not going far had overpay. Just like you speculated. BUT, this is one shift. Going to try again and again. Thanks!!!

I have seen $6.75 with the extra pay a lot! I had an order that came in at $15.00 for an 11 mile drive but ended up being $36.25. I took the order because I know that there are a lot of people on vacation in that area, and they usually tip well. Upside down orders are an automatic decline for me. Some fast food places here have decent payouts, though, because some vacationers are generous.

Hey Brother, & fellow Dashers.. Dashers in California are paid a minimum wage of $0.30 mile and $0.30 minute which is calculated from order acceptance through. Delivery. Any week Drivers payouts are less than the calculated earnings, the difference is payed out on Mondays.. Problem is that we are only getting payed to deliver the orders but then we get left stranded having to get ourselves back to the delivery zone. If a delivery is 5 miles out we get paid for the 5 miles plus the 10 minutes to get there but then we have to drive 5 miles and 10 minutes back that none of us get paid for. We don't get to wait at the delivery location for the next order because being 5 miles away from the merchants the app would always send it to the closest driver.

I heard something about making tips mandatory… and I, for one, absolutely think this should happen. There’s been a few times when dropping off at an apt or a hotel/ casino , I’ve walked so far to find the correct apt or room, only to see they’ve left $0 in tip.
This happened to me today, couldn’t find the guys apt bc it was an upstairs unit, while I thought each unit was 2 story. I msgd the guy that I found the numbers before and after his, already wasting time, so he came down (I was about 10 feet down too far) but he seemed annoyed to have to do that. If he paid a nice tip, then yea feel irritated you had to participate in the delivery of your order, but no tip means you don’t get to have an attitude to the person servicing you.
    Ok rant over lol
