I don’t accept $2 orders. Even for 1/2 a mile. People who don’t tip should not get their food delivered….
Thank you for all your advice! You really helped me figure out what I was doing when I first started Dashing and made the whole process work so much better for me
I heard someone mention the other day that one of the apps was pushing a tip after delivery thing and some people like to tip in cash. I live in a somewhat small town and most of the deliveries are under 2 miles, so it's worth it for me to take everything in case they DO tip cash or after delivery.
What city you in? How long you been dashing? How many hours a day u do, i’m in nyc thinking about e bike
@@lwatson403 that makes sense. In my experience, I have only had an additional tip added 2x. Once was I think because the order took an extra long time so I had to wait. My town is pretty big, 100,000 people
@@forever2four I’m in a Kansas City suburb. I’ve only been dashing a few months. I was dashing every day two hours during dinner but now that I’m back in school I’m mainly sticking to weekends. Our market is pretty flush with dashers rn

Even with just 3 items to shop, it shows how little DoorDash cares about customers by having the driver pick up the food first, to have it sit in the car while they shop.
Had one of these today (and skipped it) and my first thought was the food is going to be cold (and whose eval will that hang on?) - god forbid you have an issue on the shop (even with 3 items it can happen).
…and with just those 3 items it can become a nightmare. It’s happened to me. I won’t take stacked orders with shop and pay for that reason alone.
Dash gets over on both customers and drivers
when they make you throw receipts away so the customer want see it says it all
I’ll say this 2 years ago I was making 1500$ too 1800$ a week now it’s 1000$ too 1100$ that’s a big gap per week too many drivers
Right I’d shop first then go get the food
Great video , I just started dashing for about 2 weeks now. These videos and others really help. Thanks for taking the time to do these type videos.
3 items is my max for S&D, and you can almost guarantee that the store will be out of 1 of the items
I’ll only do shop and pay in the nicer stores for that reason.
I think I’ll stay with cherry picking 😊
100%
I've watched a ton of videos on earn by time and they're never worth it. Cherry picking is the way to go
Im in a small city/ large town and if i am not at least 70% AR i will constantly get $2-4 orders and they are far. So i kinda rely on being top dasher to make around 17-22 an hour
anytime you have a shop and deliver or picking up an order the workers already picked out, doordash charges retailers $9.75 for the first 5 miles and $0.75 per mile after that (from store to customer) so sometimes you'll see just a shopping offer for $9-10 and when you finish there was no customer tip so doordash basically paid you out for the full thing, but knowing that whenever a customer does tip on those kinds of retail orders, doordash lowers their payout to you subsidized by the customer tip which is basically the same exact tip stealing they did in the old pay model but now they hide it and probably almost all drivers aren't even aware that that's the case. that's why the first combo order was so high paid out by doordash because the customer tips were pretty low overall and it had a retail order.
I’m new to Door Dash and your videos are great! I’m going to cherry pick! Thanks for the tips!
An example that todays businesses have revolutionized the world! 🤝 Good video bro
Lol hear me out. I'm at 12% AR now and I have started rejecting 7 out of 10 orders bc they are 💩. But my evil mind does this....send me those orders I'll reject all until I get decent one. Top dashers wanna keep the AR up they will be the ones chasing those rejected 💩 orders eventually. Idk in my world it makes sense 😅
I am at 76% AR and most all of my orders are good paying at least $1.50 to $2 a mile. At the end of a shift I am closer to $3 per mile. I used to cherry pick myself for the first 3 1/2 yrs on DD and I make much more now that I don't. been dashing for almost 4 yrs now. Also have several other food apps, using just one app to make your money is not the way to go. More apps, means more offer to choose from, and when one app is slow, the others may be busy. I easily can make $200 to $300 in 8 to 10 hrs a day.
I am a fellow Pittsburgher, and I've been dashing off and on for a few years, but I'm full-time right now while I'm between jobs. I know Oakland is good for shorter delivery distances, but man, the city is tough to work in. Maybe I just don't know the areas well enough. I usually stay near Pleasant Hills, but I'm thinking of working near Waterfront tomorrow. I love the channel!
Great video (was wondering is Mike going to clear $10 hr) - noticed this week Earn By Time acceptances stopped counting for acceptance rate adjustments (was not this way last week as I boosted my rate to 94% by doing EBT all of last week). I'm in the Chicago suburbs for location reference.
BTW you still get garbage orders with 94% acceptance rate. BTW EBT in my area doesn't give me $2 or $3 garbage orders, it gives me the long range (often out of zone) drives people don't take but often have tips (not great but they are there) in the end I often make more on EBT ($10 to $20 a lunch shift for ex) than EBO (and you want to run as many as possible cause the tips add up). I don't run EBT on dinner as the out of zone runs get even worse compared to lunch and the extra take disappears. You drive alot more on EBT though.
That’s why you do by the time instead of offer and make sure you signed up for the 2 hour shift before hand. Also If you really want to compare you should have a top dasher do the same time period in the same zone. Huge difference in what orders you get.
I've been dashing for a couple of weeks and noticed a big difference in the amount of good offers as soon as my acceptance rate went under 50%. I did some no so great offers, to get back to over 49%, and noticed the good offers came back.
Dashed today started with a 30$ offer. After that trash all day long. Nothing over 8$ and I’m in top dasher program. My AR went from 84% to 64% today.
The DD algorithm knows the allure of staying a Top Dasher and will make you earn it by sending some of the most declined orders in your zone. If you wanna keep your AR high, avoid dashing in the slow times, especially between 2PM and 5PM.
I'd like to try an accept every offer on walmart spark
dash by time got my acceptance rate from 12 percent to 55 in like two or three days. Since I've been in the silver dasher rewards, It's a lot easier to maintain when doing earn per offer, because a lot of the offers during the good times are going to be priority offers.
I am NEVER knowingly accepting offers from NO TIPPERS.😂
No tip, watch the food flip!
Me either
Yeah that $2.00 one was a pain, but as the challenge goes I MUST accept!
@@YourDriverMike But you are the one setting up the challenge.I'm NOT delivering a Krusty Burger to any Cheap Charlies unless Doordash does the old reach around on me.😂🤡
I do deliver No tip orders i work for my total delivery earnings, riding in a Promo area is solid. Everything Else is eextra
The delivery apps have seriously slowed to a crawl in my market, it's not even worth going out these days. Hopefully it picks up in the Spring.
Hey Mike, I don’t know if you’ve ever done a video about this, but could you tell us about your vehicle maintenance? How often do you get your oil changed as a gig driver? Stuff like that. I’ve heard someone say if you’re doing stuff like this you should do it once a month.
Hi James, really just depends on mileage. If you’re working full time it’s going to be greatly accelerated of course. More oil changes, brakes, tires etc. I do go full synthetic oil so I can go longer between changes
I don't know how I feel about dashers picking up my food and leaving it in their car while picking up another order no wonder why my food always arrives cold
Well, you know it's not coming fresh out of the restaurant oven. I'll take a second order if the price/ mileage is decent.
Not only that, but often when we pick up the food it's already cold.
For me, it’s not usually not too big of a problem if the restaurants are close by. Only issue comes up when order #2 takes too long, and then both orders are late (though restaurant 1 was blameless)
See I was kinda thinking that too like I picked up the food first, then they wanted me to go shop for that bundled order. Not ideal
@@YourDriverMike I won't take a shopping order unless it's first!
Try it in Orlando it sucks down here alot fo 2 dollar order or 5 dollars for 10 miles
I’ve heard FL markets are rough. Any apps that do work well in Orlando?
If you're below 50% chances of getting any orders that have a decent pay/time/mileage ratio decreases dramatically. What has happened recently is I get to 50% and slightly above and then get immediately get slammed with 4 or 5 orders that have bad mileage to pay ratio, reject them, and slip back under 50%. It's frustrating. I did get a notice from DD recently that I have "been prioritized" for shop and pay/red card orders. Fortunately most of those have been decent. But otherwise getting deliveries that are worth taking has been tough.
Meijer says don't go to self checkout and I go to self checkout each time, never an issue. I think they do that because some dashers forget to scan the bar code.
I think customers order food and then add orders from grocery stores for no additional fees
If it's DashPass they never paid delivery fees
My friend has this co worker who does DoorDash , that dude told me he has his girlfriend help, she gets the stuff , he drives, she gets out and drops off the food, he’s outside waiting then go get the next delivery, he told me his tips increased even with the ones who don’t tip
Did I mention he drives a Unicycle
Even though it says don't use self checkout, I usually go anyway. Never had any issues yet. Also I swear with shop and deliver orders the customer always picks stuff that isn't in stock :P
The apps tend to recommend items that they say are on sale on the app - and you would think they would do this with items that they check and the store has plenty of - but alas. Or if they do start out with plenty, plenty(er?) 😂 of people order. That’s why I think, if I was looking for tissues for instance…. I would pick a brand not on their homepage. (the apps. Or the store for that matter actually if I had looked at that.) and sometimes people when they’re ordering are not feeling well or rushing or just plain lazy. If they see tissues on the homepage for that store they think “looks good to me” and 💥 they pick that one - especially if it is on sale. (Not everybody takes the time to see some of the others are a better deal to begin with. 😂) so I would think any other brand would be a better chance of being in stock.
I know they stock a lot during the night based on when my friend used to work at a deli in a supermarket near my house. But I’ve read people online saying various things are delivered at various times during the day. So I’d probably check with my store. If they tend to be fully stocked early in the morning I would just do a really early order.
Oh, this is one reason I would prefer to shop for myself except when I was physically incapable. And then I had it through the supermarket itself pre-DoorDash Instacart, etc. And I just put no substitutions. They did call when they were done shopping and tell me that it was done except they were out of XYZ. And they would ask if I wanted something else instead. Being they were very patient and would check in to explain to me the options available. I did sometimes pick a different one. But I wouldn’t just leave it to chance. Something to be a fairly expensive item to begin with like just say a $9.99 item versus like a $1.98 item. That may be expensive enough to me for that and someone else might pick out a different one that’s twice the price.
Good shoppers versus inexperienced or don’t really GAF ones, that makes all the difference. But you have to shop online ,if you are going to do it, with the expectation that everything should be spelled out / made as easy as possible. Jmho for instance, some shoppers will mark something “out of stock” even though they only look for a second and it’s actually just about staring them in the face. Others will have looked thoroughly. Found the shelf that it would be on. Offered other sizes if there are any or whatever. But they will go to courtesy if they don’t see somebody who works there on the floor that is helpful and have them check and see if they have more in the back. Now, if they’re busy, you can’t force them to check, but certainly at courtesy they can see in the computer. And certainly it doesn’t hurt to ask. Many times you can get lucky and they can tell you another spot. They have some set up or grab you one from the back. Other times they say that’s it whatever’s out. But at least you tried. I think there are a lot of conscientious experienced shoppers out there by now. But you just never know for sure who you’re gonna get. And they might be perfectly nice. It just might be their first day. 😂
Sorry for the extra commas and periods what kind of make it harder to understand. When dictating it turns to get longer also. 🙊
I give you credit Mike, I ran DoorDash January 1st this year till yesterday then I deleted the app! Under pay per mile, and over saturated markets doordorks just not worth it to me. Appreciate the vid tho sir✌️😁👍
Whats city you in
Thank you! Which market? Were you typically doing earn per offer or earn by time?
I accepted everything to 85% and now I cherry pick between 80-90% and make 25$ per hour in my market.
I brought my AR up to 60 percent. I had been getting okay orders until yesterday when it was ALL 2 and 3 dollar orders for 5 miles or more. 10 miles on a couple. I mean, it was horrible at dinner rush, and I did not accept any of them and my AR crashed to below 40. I went home. Today at breakfast and lunch, for a busy time, it was still crap orders. I think DD is sabotaging me fr.
If I earn by time DoorDash choose me first than those doing by delivery?? 🚚
I gotta admit, I just got to Platinum in Los Angeles, waiting to get large orders, and I get like 1 bad order for each like 5 or so. My acceptance rate is in the mid-80% range because it's been solid and I haven't had to decline a lot. Made $120 in my last 5 hour dash, in comparison to my average $40 or so before Platinum. *A lot* of shop and deliver, like 75% of my orders going to Target or a supermarket. Also a lot of restaurant orders stacked onto sometimes huge grocery orders, which is weird.
It's promising! That said, I just started on Platinum this week so this might be a honeymoon phase before DoorDash flips a switch and starts giving me more bad orders again. I guess we'll see.
What place you drive in La ? I mostly do East Gate LA it’s good pay but trying to find other spots
@@zyaxs3234 I'm mainly in Beverly Hills, usually treats me well! But you gotta be careful, not all of LA is under the new program. In Beverly Hills I'm platinum but in Burbank and Studio City I'm not, which is pretty frustrating.

I’m still watching but just to let you know at the six minute and 42 second mark I think it is you might want to change that to communicating with customers. It could be awkward to commute with people you’ve never met. 😂 carpool time.
It’s funny how they restrict you to a zone but constantly take you 10s of miles out of the zone and throw it in your face that your out of the zone and need to drive back to get more orders. Then penalize you if you decline those orders. DoorDash is a lose lose for drivers at this point
Dd are just so strict than uber snd GB
"the downside is it takes ten minutes" dude proceeds to take 18 min to get there
Yep, another downside. Again why accepting absolutely everything is such a pain and not a good strategy
Not only that, they are now letting multiple drivers accept the same offer. Twice this has happened where I get to the restaurant and they told me someone has already picked it up meaning another driver. I'm like then why did I drive all the way here and they said they will pay me have of the orders worth which was $2 I'm like ok but what about tips? Then I picked up two ordered and noticed on one of the bags that it was another drivers name meaning this other driver is going to show up for nothing because I picked it up
Brutal
is priority access/dasher rewards even worth it?
I’m 0 for 2 doing Shop and Pay for CVS. It’s unlikely I’ll ever do a CVS order again; always out of something I need.
DoorDash is soooo slow in my area here in Suffolk on Long Island even peak dinner time 5:30-9:30p on a Fri & Sat. What is going on?
How long you been dashing? I’m in nyc thinking about doing E bike in queens. DD u don’t think it’s worth it right now?
@@forever2four only about a month but everytime I get stuck waiting on orders or it’s filing through so many “waste of my time” orders. I’ve never done Brooklyn/queens though.
@@HiAnthonyA How many hours you do and days? Do you get the 29.93 active time like nyc?
Good lord, this was PAINFUL. Sorry you had to go thru that.
I started the day with 65 AR. I accepted 9 out of 10 orders and ended the day with a 64 AR. How does that happen
its based off your last 100 orders ,meaning you replaced an accepted order with another accepted order.
That’s strange. I can do self checkout here on DoorDash
Once you learn 2$ -6$ ain’t worth it because most times it’s going too a bad neighborhood
I always use self check out despite what they tell us to do. Just no way I’m sitting in a long line when I have twenty, or less items and I’ve never had an issue with this. Just putting that out there to cut down on time
Overall though doordash shop and deliver is just kinda clumsy. It has gotten better, but just harder to use then something like Spark
I thought it would be good to get food and some groceries; but it turned out the person went all the way to the other city and got the food and then all the way to the next city and got the groceries and all the food was cold and soggy and it all came a half hour late in addition to everything else!
I just did Uber the other day just to try it again and it was such a fraud. They give me $3.05 dollar orders and I have to go like 13 miles.
If you have over 10% AR on Uber, you're probably losing money.
I love watching your videos, I’m in Columbus Ohio. I have a question. Has Giant Eagle and Market District stopped using Point Pickup? I haven’t seen any for almost 2 weeks from them.
Great question and thanks for watching. Actually haven’t seen a ton of PPU orders either. I’ll keep an eye out bc I want to do more shifts

I will NEVER GET platinum status (they took away Top Dasher in my area last December. I’ll NEVER get back to 100 deliveries because I’m not offered very many offers. I’m grateful to be able to multi app and between the 3 food delivery apps, I can squeeze out $50-$70 in 3-4 hours. Not great but better than nothing. I HATE wasting gas and I don’t like to be bored. He had like $3 bonus on base pay there I think - but yeah I was like if this was in my suburb area (no base pay bonus) you wouldn't not have cleared $10 hr, lol.
Yes downtown Pittsburgh market, which sub market are you in? I do see lower hourly in suburban markets
Let me make this clear from someone who has been doing this for years now. Its not worth it on any platform. The market is oversaturated with drivers and customers are cheap as well as the companies.
I do very well in my market. Been dashing and other apps for close to 5 yrs now. So really depends on where you live and your market.
Some offers are meant to be denied. People eventually learn that if they want something delivered on time they've got to tip. Non tippers probably get sick from eating old food. These apps are so greedy but capitalism.
Be interesting to see how you do in a 8 hr shift
Slight bumps in hourly during breakfast, moderate bumps during lunch and dinner but haven’t been seeing a lot of peak pay unfortunately. I’d run longer shifts but remember I need to edit these videos, this one took about 6 hours to edit + thumbnail.
It’s only value is a filler along side Uber Eats
I did this on the 30th to get my ar back up and I made 14.30/hr for 10 hours 🥺
Worth it to get back on priority access?
I just got my DoorDash acceptance from 14% to 20%. I think you went to a little too much on that $8.75 shop order. I would have just refunded.
I do nothing but Uber Eats! Go on when I want! I am not going for rewards at all! Money is the goal for the time spent! Thanks for showing us what not to do!
Seeing surge on UE? It’s just pretty dead for me with
I stopped doing doordash unless you want to do shopping orders 50% of the time. Since I stopped doing doordash my stress level has dropped in half!
lol what city you in? You wasn’t making money ?
I think Doordash purposely creates foul double orders that you hate if your acceptance rate is below 50%. I still have my account but they are #3 on my list for activities.
