    Think about it from the viewpoint of the customer. A customer gives a large tip in part because he expects that the generous tip will get him FASTER delivery service. Doordash then hides most of the tip causing the order to get bounced around to multiple drivers before it gets accepted, likely causing SLOWER service.

    • @adamdavis1737
      @adamdavis1737 2 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      Legit. I was under the assumption for so long that my dashers could see the tip I was giving them when I placed my order.
      I used to hustle with Uber Eats for a while where they show you the entire total for any given order before you take it.
      I was kind of shocked that doordash operated like this when I started giving their platform a try. It really messes with your incentive to take a gig

      Shit 2 days ago, Saturday, I had an order pop up on my screen that was a $4 order: $3 base +$1 peak pay, I almost instinctively hit decline but then I paused and noticed it was a 7 item order from a upper middle tier restaurant where each item is $15-20 each item. I accepted on a gamble because I noticed it was going to a middle to upper class neighborhood. I was betting on a cash tip. Was an 8.5 mile delivery for only a guaranteed $4. I got $15 cash tip when I delivered so a $19 total payout. Sometimes the lowball orders pay. Usually they dont but sometimes they do.

      Dude you need to know that Outback Steakhouse is stealing delivery driver tips. When the customers places a delivery order on the RESTAURANT's website/app and leaves a tip, the restaurant relays that order to a third party app and they keep the tip for themselves. Check out Pete from Paid to Drive and he had a Dasher confirm this happened. The lady left a $8 tip on the app and when the driver completed the order he only got the $3 base pay. You can actually call Outback Steakhouse yourself and speak to a manager and the manager will confirm for you that if a tip is left on Outback's website for delivery that the restaurant keeps the tip. When this revelation was uncovered I had permanently put Outback Steakhouse on my blacklist of restaurants that I will never deliver for. I also no longer do any order that has no tip. My last 180 deliveries and I have had a 100% tip rate. No tip means no trip and with the revelation that some restaurants are stealing tips from drivers I no longer do any delivery with no tip period.

    Thank you so much for sharing these tips! I tried it out tonight and it worked beautifully!! I'm really thankful too because I get very few offers from GH or UE in my market. GH has gotten cheap all of a sudden, and now the few that came in are almost all low-ball garbage. Still a lot of low-ball from DD, but these tips helped me to better identify which ones might go up after delivery. I hope you will continue to share things that you learn.

    One other tip I’ve noticed for how to spot these: (And, like anything with DoorDash, I’m sure this is different in different markets, but this is what seems to be true in my area). The orders with extra pay will never look like bad orders to start with. I’m defining “bad order” as anything under $6 or paying less than $1 per mile. A $3-5 order is not going to have extra pay, no matter how many items it shows or what restaurant it’s coming from.
    So, even if the order is going 9 miles away, they’re still going to show at least $9 for the payout when there’s a bigger tip in the end. I’ve only had one time it didn’t show at least $1/mile and there was extra pay, and in that case I wasn’t close to the restaurant, so some of that mileage was from my current location to the restaurant itself.
    Also, the “total always ends in .50 or .75” is definitely not true. I have absolutely had orders with extra pay that showed as whole dollar amounts. However, I will say the total not being a whole dollar does seem to make it more likely - most of the extra pay orders do have initial payouts that look like that. But it’s not always the case, so if it has a lot of the other factors that make it likely, I’d still go ahead and try it.

    One strategy I use is some dashes show you like 9-13miles for a delivery of 9-12$ but doordash almost always shows the highway route and if I took the street the 9-10 mile order turns into 5-6 miles for maybe 1-2mins more on gps time but usually comes out to same time

    Bently, new Dasher (3 weeks into the gig economy) and learning so much from you. I am trying to model my Dashing off of your 'Smash and Dash' model. I do have 2 scenarios to run by you. VERY interested in your thoughts.
    Scenario 1. I received a few orders from a mid teir/semi high tier restaurant. Round about $4 payout with a 12+ mile delivery. I've accepted one expecting a hidden tip or a cash tip to find out there was no tip. Makes me extremely hesitant to accept these orders ever again.
    Scenario 2. Stacked orders. This has happened twice to me. I receive one order from Five Guys. Payout is $8 for 6 miles. During order pickup, I receive a second order from the same restaurant. This one adds an additional 3 miles to my route. Payout is $2. I complete both deliveries to find that the additional order has no tip. Can I assume that DoorDash knew that I was already on a similar route and charged the customer less money? Or is there something more sinister going on where DoorDash kept some of the money I should have gotten?
    Thanks for your videos! Keep them coming my friend.

      So, as you may know, the reason why Doordash does this is to manipulate drivers into accepting shitty orders thinking they will get more. Similar to a casino, Doordash plays into the fact that humans consistently overstate the odds of winning (or getting an extra boost), when there will always be a possibility of wasting your time.
      So, in scenario 1, your mistake was accepting a terrible order, expecting the hidden payout. I rarely accept under $1 per km, and hoping for the payout is just gambling. You should always feel happy with what is shown to you, and anything more should be a bonus.
      In scenario 2, Doordash doesn't take anything from you. 100% of tips always go to drivers. What they did, however, is pay you for the difference. If you travelled an extra 2 miles, and it is on the way, the base pay may be very little. What doordash charges has nothing to do with how much you're paid. they pay you for the work they think it takes (and the tip). In my personal experience lately, they have been giving me close to the the normal base pay and tip for both orders, and not the difference. so some stacked orders come out to like $20 for marginally more driving.
      This was definitely more long winded than I intended, but hope you got something from it.

    • @orlandomartin2677
      @orlandomartin2677 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

    The number of items usually includes these items: 3 ketchup counts as 3 items; request for no pickles counts as one item. Every line on the order “counts” as an item. Look at the order total, forget number of items.

    Thank you for serving the DD community the way you do!
    I'm wondering if it is within DD policy to send a polite text before ending the order regarding tips being appreciated or something to that affect? I've seen stickers that say something along the lines of "thank you for choosing a delivery driver service today. If you found value in the service I gave, please remember tips keep me on the road. Enjoy your meal & the rest of your day". Something like that anyway. Many people in my area on Maui are not tipping, especially on 3rd party merchants like grocery store orders. I think they think that I'm a Safeway employee & being paid already. What's a gentle reminder we can get away with? Thank you

      This is true for me as well 8.50 always bumps up to 9 at the least but usually at least 10 same thing with 7 dollar it usually goes up significantly. I think it’s basically doordash trying to see how low you’ll go

      I’d look up Doordash salary in your State and city on average and then take that salary and divide by 12 months. That’s how much you can potentially earn per month in your region and divide that monthly amount by the number of days you deliver and that’s how much you can earn per week. You can do this same math for other cities nearest to you so it can give you some financial confidence which cities are more likely to give you the bigger payout. I hope that was helpful and I also just got a car recently. 🙂
