Having a GPU that does 80% of the performance at half the wattage is far more attractive. Nvidia technically has the top dog performance so the 3090 Ti changes nothing and it only sabotages Nvidia's own reputation. Thank you for the comparison. Setting insane prices aside, the comparison charts aren't exactly standardized, as a 3090 FTW3 would perform better than the 3090 FE. This can be easily seen as the 3080 Ti FTW3 performs and sometimes outperforms the 3090. This doesn't happen if you compare across the FTW3 line. The graphs make it seem like a 12-15% jump in performance from 3090 to 3090 Ti, but with a complete FTW3 comparison is closer to 8%. Either way, can't justify the 33% MSRP increase ($1500 to $2000) from 3090 to 3090 Ti lol

I went from a 2 1080 GTX "SLI" -- Yes, I know rendering will not use SLI, sadly, curse the CUDA - -into this beast, and my render times went from 3 mins to sometimes 30 seconds. For the same scene. I don't think this Ti will change enough about render times, that I will bother with this card though.

    • @promographics1654

      @@shayliakara That is interesting. I'm running a pair of Quadro 5000s with NVLink and when I added the second one my render times were cut in half. I didn't realize that Octane couldn't use SLI on those cards. So it's just for realtime design work that you get the performance bump?

    • @mapesdhs597
      @mapesdhs597 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@promographics1654 SLI is not relevant for rendering of this kind, it doesn't work that way. One can cable it up and turn it on, but it won't make any useful difference.
      If it's about paying the bills though then power consumption may matter, ie. cost per frame, factoring in the lifetime usage vs. expected return (something slower but more efficient doesn't help if it means one can't meet deadlines. :D) Usually the sweet spot is multiple middleground cards, though years ago I did put four GTX 580s in a system to test out CUDA scaling with AE, worked pretty well. For a Blender build in a warm environment though (engineering company in India) I used two GTX 980s, that was a good compromise - faster than a 1080 Ti, and back then the cost of the latter was too prohibitive.
      Btw Promo, you'd get a decent speed bump from the K series Quadros, though for rendering the gains are much larger with equivalent gamer cards, assuming the lesser VRAM isn't an issue, though it does depend on the application. The main movie company I know though just uses RTX 8000s, they need the VRAM for unc. 8K. Mind you, the later M series cards ought to be on the used market by now.
      One advantage of Quadros is they have a full speed PCIe return path (gamer cards don't, because it's not necessary for gaming).
