      i have two ideas on cheap plastic keyboard mods.
      first one: filling the case with plumbers putty. it never dry's. or use drumming putty pads/silly putty its made to hit with sticks and not make loud sounds so it would likely sound pretty good.
      the second idea is using automotive spray in bed liner. its a thick rubberized coating that can withstand bomb blasts. so it would likely work really well as a sound deadener since vibrations do not pass through it. (look up bed liner mythbusters)
      would love to see the worst most resonate cheapest pos board you know of modded in a number of ways to see what sounds the best. (bed liner would have to be last since its pretty permanent)

    The fact that the keyboard was better stock than moded gives some props to Corsair, I honestly expected something way worse, but it is even better than the one from Razer and also $40 cheaper

      Kind of subjective. There's way too many variables and things to alter with a keyboard to make it sound better or worse. Likely just a bad combo he used given how the keyboard is designed. The Durock Sea Salt switches are also horrible and do not sound good at all either.

    • @theSato
      @theSato 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      personally I don't really agree, I think the Razer's orange switches are just the perfect switch and feel and sound nicer to my ears. I also really like the side-RGB, the volume roller/2 buttons (as opposed to just 1 knob), and the software is way nicer than Corsair's for the RGB.
      The only place the Razer loses, IMO, is the key layout -- not having a gap between the arrow keys and everything else takes some major getting used to. This Corsair board does 75% layout right.
      But, as always, 'which one is better' is almost entirely subjective.
      The only things that aren't subjective are scientifically measurable, objective black&white good&bad things (durability, switch latency, etc.)

    It's nice to see gaming keyboards slowly moving into the "at least acceptable" range. The value isn't there, and probably never will be, but it sure beats hardwired cables, terrible to open cases, and all the other crap, even from a repairability standpoint.
    Regarding northfacing LEDs, as far as I'm concerned, either go northfacing or don't bother. If you do care about RGB, and if you're buying a gaming keeb, you probably do, southfacing is terrible, because it doesn't work well with 99% of shine-through keycaps, and if you don't care, then having LEDs doesn't really matter at all.

    • @TurboPhantomOG
      @TurboPhantomOG 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Thank you for clearing this up i didnt understand what the benefit of south facing. Shine thru keycaps usually have a different sound so that will be affected if using shine through plus southfacing

    • @lycanthoss

      @@JustMehChannel in a way they already exist. There are Womier XVX keycaps with side printed legends, but most people probably want to legend on top. In theory all that needs to be done is to move the legend a little bit lower. I suspect there is simply little demand for this.

    • @Monique-iz8lp
      @Monique-iz8lp 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@JustMehChannel I think it's mostly a demand issue. Southfacing LEDs are pretty much exclusively used in the enthusiast market, where the worse RGB isn't much of a concern, and so the demand for shinethrough is quite low. On the flipside, shine through keycaps are primarily a gamer thing. Until the last year or two, there wasn't really much overlap between the two as gamer keebs weren't really customizable.
      That, and for anything doubleshot, you'd probably need entirely new molds, because you'd need to reposition the legend to the bottom of the keycap somewhere, which would definitely get expensive.

    unpopular opinion here but I think north facing LED's look better, no bright spot at the bottom of the spacebar.
    plus I think the issue with those switches sounding glassy could be fixed by swapping the top housings for uhmwpe.

    • @Honneylemz
      @Honneylemz 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

      It's not unpopular. North facing sockets are just better looking in general and allows rgb to shine through the legends of the keycaps. The reason custom keyboard community prefers south facing is because of potential interference with cherry profile keycaps which is deemed as the better style of keycaps by the community so having north facing sockets mean that you're gonna be limited on the types of keycaps and/or switches you put on. Plus more premium keycaps don't even have shine through legends anyways and enthusiast don't really use rgb on their builds so the community just preferred having the compatibility of south facing sockets than rbg that they might not even be using.

    I went to BestBuy and this was actually the best feeling keyboard out of all of them there, that's why I bought it. I've never owned a Corsair keyboard so I'm surprised in the video he says that Corsair isn't capable of making a good gaming keyboard. It's a really good keyboard. So accurate and smooth in the typing. It's really solid feeling and the keys hardly have any wiggle to them. Most enjoyable typing experience out of all keyboards I've owned. It's definitely in the upper bracket of keyboards and BestBuy has it on sale for 130 right now which puts it closer to the mid-tier keyboards. So if you want a high end keyboard for a good price, It'd be this one.

    As someone new to customizing keyboards, I saw this keyboard announced and was really looking forward to your review! I like using iCue as I've mostly used a Corsair keyboard on this setup... And this keyboard improves on the parts I didn't like about it! I know you can get cheaper keyboards with great features, but having a really good lighting setup is important for me as I do most of my typing/gaming at night. So, I'm glad they have the north facing lights since I would probably put my shine through keycaps on it.

  • @TexasCat99

    North vs South switches is a PITA. We need the north for Shine through, for gaming in a dark room - its a NEEDED function. If they are south, there are some side-see-through keycaps that look nice. But nobody makes XDA, MDA, CSA, DSA or other SA variants that are shine-through. We could REALLY use that! Have the comfort of of spherical caps with shine through legends.
    Only see through XDA I see are pudding or low-profile.
    Without the shine through, the keycaps just turn into black squares in a very dark room.

    This is an excellent review overall. Still, I think you are missing something here. On the wireless implementation, minor improvements in latency, reliability and convivence can be worth a premium. Corsair slipstream is one of the best 2.4Ghz wireless implementations on the market, its ultra-low latency (critical for competitive gaming), it's reliable and stable, and it allows you to use multiple Corsair devices on a single USB receiver. $160 - I'd say it's actually value for money when you consider that they actually put all of that into a grown-up keyboard that doesn't suck to type on, it's a grown-up gamer wireless keyboard. The only reason Corsair didn't try to squeeze more out of it is because they don't quite have the market goodwill of Logitech and Razer after a few years of pretty uninspiring product in the PC peripheral space. This should be a hit.

  • @AdamKlogistics91

    I don't think big gaming brands will ever have the price vs value, but I am glad to see they are making improvements. Especially Corsair. I had an old Corsair K70 Keyboard for nearly 10 years. It finally died this year. And the prices on all the gaming keyboards being insanely overpriced for what they offered. I started researching alternatives and that is how I ended up here watching your channel. And ultimately built my first keyboard. Though coming as a gamer that didn't know much about keyboards prior to this year, I would have easily bought something like this keyboard if it was an option at the time. I kind of expect gamer keyboards to have a price mark up especially from the big name brands.

I like being able to see the keycap legends if i want to dim the room lights. I've looked and there are few if any good options for south-facing RGB. been seeing this for a long time and it honestly just blows my mind, surely using a polycarbonate or polypropylene plate (same plastic as a lot of tupperware) would be both cheaper and sound better to most people buying these keyboards, and it would give a softer bottom out. I don’t know if there’s some assumption that the weight gain or rigidity from steel plates is more premium, but we should let that die in my opinion.

    Have accumulated a collection of big-box-store bought mainstream RGB keyboards by now. This is the first that feels good enough right out of the box. Given Corsair's typical keyboard characteristics, this model is markedly out-of-character. Feels solid, not hollow-plasticky. Pre-lubed. Subtle thock. No unpleasant aural emanations. Bottoming-out is neither harsh nor mushy. Pleasant to type with enough, no bother to switch-on the RGB. Low-profile & 60% wireless versions of similar qualities might also be nice. Bought at a discounted price; may have contributed to the pleasant experience.

    Overall it's a nice looking keyboard. From afar it even looks truly premium. Which is a good step forward overall for Corsair. It just means more choices for custom mech mech keyboard users. It helps to keep prices competitive too.

    guys, i will say it once more. I am a gamer and i rly hate South face leds. I love to swap with shine throu keycaps. I am a gamer and i coming from gaming RBG keyboards.
    Is like i want to enter on custom keyboard world and i want to have North face leds. That makes no sense.

    Great video as usual. Have you heard of the Boog75? It's one of the keyboards with Hall Effect switches for gaming, but also catered towards enthusiasts because of how premium the build quality and sound profile is.

Instantly went back, but hoping Corsair starts moving towards making their bigger keyboards hot-swappable and with Mac mode because my K95 is not getting replaced until that happens! Likely pricing was based on what Glorious - GMMK PRO is selling for same price bare, so figured people would look at the 2 of them in best buy and choose one with switches already on it. Pretty sure Corsair don't even consider non retail store brands pricing, just stuff between major brands will find in box stores.

  • @Cynos_3D
    @Cynos_3D 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    So something you should know buying this keyboard, if you expect Corsair's iCue software to be fully featured in wireless mode prepare for disappointment as you CANNOT customize RGB per key without using the USB cable, all you get are very basic RGB settings. I know this is pretty minor but if you're going to pay for a wireless keyboard it's kind of annoying to lose on some of the main selling points of a freaking Corsair device when everything else under their ecosystem supports per key RGB. The dongle is also not Slipstream compatible so you cannot combine connectivity with an other one of your Slipstream devices like headphones or mouse, furthermore having these two dongles next to each other in USB ports can lead to severe signal interference, RIP.

    @hipyo, I was going to ask if the Epomaker manufactured their own keyboards to suggest a reason for the price difference, but Corsair's is pretty much a clone of other keyboards out there. You'd think that would cut back on some of the Non-recoverable expenses like the tooling used for the plates, and other parts.

    I'm looking at this as babys first custom keyboard, and mainly and solely on the corsair warranty. Something goes wrong with it (like what has happened with friends of mine and I'm not good enough to solder like they do), I just ship it back and get an RMA. the less worry is honestly worth a bit of the price overage, but it def seems more like a buy on a good sale than buy right now thing.

    Hipyo, which keyboard will you recommend for gaming and typing?

  • @BullrullarN
    @BullrullarN 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +11

    Pssst. Corsair, this is what you want to do: South facing LEDs, Cherry profile keycaps instead of OEM (lower profile = more ergonomic), VIA compatibility > your software or support for both. Turn your feet into one long strip like the Mode Sonnet or Geonworks Frog, don't want the keyboard to slide around unnecessarily. Maybe a PC/POM plate instead of for more "thock" and a softer feeling typing experience and less noise that could get transmitted through users headset. There's absolutely nothing wrong with a keyboard made out of plastics as long as it's done right.

    Question: What's the difference between northfacing LEDs and southfacing LEDs and why ppl hate or don't like the northfacing LEDs ?

    • @Asparagaceae
      @Asparagaceae 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Cherry profile keycaps were designed to fit on south-facing switches.
      When you have north-facing LEDs, that usually means the switches need to be inserted upside-down.
      This could cause interference because the roof of the keycap prematurely hits the top of the switch housing before the switch can fully bottom out.
