  • Learn an easier way to join quilt binding. Everyone should know how to do this, but most do it the longer, trickier way. Learn the secret and share it out!

Hey - you shared my secret 😆. I do a few hand stitches once the binding is folded and sewn down.

I can see why you would want to do that with all the bulk in that spot.

I learned this method from a video of Pin, Cut, Sew. Love using this method.

This cheat is oft used, but there is some merit to learning to do it without the cheat. Like many, that final join was my nemesis. I found that being confident in the measure and marking and then pre-mitering (make sure both ends are pointed the same way, right side up) the join with my CG Folded Corner Clipper gave me perfect results (without the gnashing of teeth).

I do all my quilts this way.

Yes, that is how I've been doing it for years. That bit that the quilt books showed us in the 70s?? I tried it twice, and discovered this works just as well, and I haven't pulled my hair out or punched holes in the walls, since.😂.And, it is hard to see anyway, where we joined the ends.💁‍♀️ More quilts finished, and my sanity is still intact.😊

When you piece your binding strips together do you have to sew diagonally??? Can you just sew a straight line seam and trim it?? Thanks!!!

Yes! For years I sewed diagonally until one day I’m like- why am I doing this? 😂 Now, I do a straight line seam and trim.

Awesome! Wish I had watched this video about 2 hours ago. 😂 Would have saved me a date with Jack the Ripper to get to the end result! Thank you!

This is an excellent method. A way to reduce the bulk is shown in a video by Stacey Lee Creative made about a year ago. The title of her video is “Let’s Cheat and Finish the Binding an Easy Way.” Her specific joining technique is at the 12-minute point in her video.

Yes, I found this method on TH-cam two years ago, and it changed my life. I no longer have binding fears. It does leave a little more bulk, but like you pointed out, you can't tell once it's finished. So many quilts stayed unfinished before learning this hack. Thanks for sharing. More quilters will hopefully learn this method and save them binding stress.

Everyone needs to know! I honestly never knew people did it differently until years after I started quilting. ❤️

I would never have thought of folding and tucking in the raw edges, this is a great idea. I will give it a go. Many thanks

It's definitely easier, and more fun. Really, you can't tell the difference from sewing the ends together inside out,🫣 and it's hard to see unless you really look for it.

And if you want to, you could always ladder stitch the loose edges

Hi Emma Jane. This is very similar to how i learned binding at the beginning. I could never quite get it right but after seeing this I think i was doing it wrong. I now do it the traditional way but i love this video and how you showed it.

Thank you for that. I have never enjoyed doing my own binding. I've struggled through it & it's frustrating. I've paid someone one else to put the binding on for me. It's like torture. So I'll give your idea a try. It looks like it is worth the effort to try it.
