I BELIEVE this is the MOST easiest and PERFECT project to use scraps;esp of a collection that we love to buy, just CAN'T throw those lovely pieces away. ❤❤❤❤ Huge THANK you for your sister's creation and you sharing.
Wow, this blew my mind! I assumed you were going to carefully lay down each piece, one by one, but then you attacked them with the rotary cutter and shoved them inside, hahahaha! The result is gorgeous and the tulle hardly visible. I’m going to rescue all the crumbs from all my bins and try this! Delightful!
Normally, I think people talk too much with their tutorials. But my goodness, you have the sweetest voice! I thoroughly enjoyed your chattering as you worked away. Thank you for the tutorial!
Her voice is the right pitch, and she has a gentle voice that's natural and quite frankly very enjoyable ❤ she would be great reading out loud books, plus there was no annoying music either to put up with. 😊 just lovely and really pleasant ☺️ ❤
Wow, I’m watching from Nova Scotia, Canada and think what you have created is terrific. At 75, I’ve decided to take sewing up again and will definitely be giving this a go. You are a wonderful teacher…..thanks so much!
I too and a Canadian, from Ontario. Hi! I have a whole huge jar of fabrics I cut up into "crumbs" and wasn't sure what to do with them. Now I know! Thank you Rachel!
Mind blown when you took the rotary cutter to the crumbs. I couldn't fathom how you would stitch them together. A very creative technique. Now I'm off to salvage my "too small" scraps from the bin and see what magic they'll make. Thank you!
I completely agree with you Linda. I wasn't sure how the bits were going to be joined either but was pleasantly surprised. Love it and can't wait to try.
This was beautifully presented. Clear instructions that were shown slowly so we could keep up. No wild back ground music which was nice to have, just nice AMSR moments. Also your speaking voice was so calm and comforting.
This is the prettiest and easiest way to use crumbs that I've ever seen. I try to not waste any materials when working on projects. I send my thanks to you and your thoughtful sister you made you the first one. God bless you.
Wow. I have watched videos for 6 years and I just discovered you. Your presentation is so relaxing, instructional, and encouraging. I will sit and binge watch I am sure. Thank you.
Whoo hoo. That's great. I've wondered WY I keep saving teeny tiny bits of fabric and now I know what to do with them. Will be watching more of your videos now I have found you. Thanks for sharing such a gorgeous project.
I could not have predicted how it would come out! It really is a lovely blended watercolor effect and the quilting/padding makes it just look like it's so cozy and would be wonderful to touch!
Love the scrap idea after watching this video, so saved everything from my cutting today, then remembered I had some scraps in the little bin in the bedroom where I do my sewing. Took all the scraps out of that bin and found the safety cap to my thread cutter/snipper that had been missing for a few days. So thankyou for this video, or I'll never have found the cap, as it would eventually have gone forever 💞
Rachel you have such a soft demeanour and a pleasure to watch. Your placemat turned out so cute. You know I’m gonna have to try one for sure so easy. It’s just yeah I don’t know. I got Christmas projects. I’ll save those bits and pieces and give it a whirl. Thank you so much for sharing with us..👍❤️🙂
Ohmygoodness! What a find! I've seen other confetti techniques, but not one as simple as this. No nonsense - just do it! Eye catching idea. Thank you so much Rachel.
Wow! Perfect idea for Christmas gifts. I can taylor each one for each grandchild, so everyone has one that is just for them! They will love it and I will have a blast making them! Thank you for the great idea! Jean Colorado USA
This is incredible. I couldn't believe you were literally using crumbs and were just stuffing them in there. And it all came out SO beautiful. Thank you for sharing - what a blessing. I can't wait to make me one or a 100.❤️❤️❤️
You've explained something I've been struggling with for years - mitred corners with a binding! Thank you so much - beautifully described. I shall be redoing all my cat mats.
I enjoy your project. But most of all I love to hear the stories about your shopping experiences. I might be your older viewer, but keep things going and you admit lots of projects in the works. I think we all have many projects going at one time. I now know what to do with my scraps. Thank you for sharing your knowledge.
What a wonderful project. Now I know what to do with all those tiny pieces of fabric. No landfill with this project. This will make great gifts. I was thinking of using all my Christmas scraps & gifting for Christmas. Thank you for sharing.
That is such a great way to use up the little scraps. I loved how the bears really gave it character. Thank you for showing us how to do confetti crumb quilting Rachel. xx
I was very curious when I read the title of your video. Surprise, surprise! I had no idea about this fun technique. Alas, I have thrown out so many little bits and now I am mourning their loss. The Care Bears was a touch of genius. Just subscribed.
Thank you - Love it . I am a fabric scrooge and cant throw away even the tinest bit - Now I can make these . Thank you . I hope to watch more of your delightful videos. Great way to be frugal and reduce waste too...
I was wondering why you were cutting those scraps so many times until you started putting them between the tulle (netting) and the foam. Then I thought "Well that's brilliant! LOVE this! I will definitely be trying it! 💖💖💖💖💖💖💖
Wow, Rachel! That's brilliant. I never would've thought of doing this in a million years, but it's quite cool. These would make such great placemats and is such a great idea for those crumbs of expensive, beautiful fabrics.
Rachel I love this project. I can’t wait to make one! What a wonderful sister to gift one to you. I have pink organza with sparkles it will make a great gift. The quilting lines just had that magical touch. I love it! Happy stitching.
What a lovely and fun project. My plan is to make a placemat "pocket" for each granddaughter and let them stuff away to their hearts content using bits of fabric, lace, ribbon and yarn. Then I can quilt and bind to finish. Also thinking to include lettering which spells their name. Another option is they make a surprise one for each other. Or use batting, fleece or flannelette instead of foam, make loads and put together a QAYG blanket. So many wonderful options! Thank you Rachel.
I just ordered soft & stable and some large Organza bags that I can cut to use, because i didn't want to buy yards of it. I'm going to make a pad for my sewing machine to sit on..I'm so excited! Thanks for the tutorial. 😀 🌻🌞
Interesting method. I use my scraps by putting them right sides together, sewing them, folding them over, finger press and add another scrap. I keep doing this until I have a large enough square. Then when I’m done them all for my project, I sandwich everything together, use fabric strips in between join them and quilt away usually using a stipple free motion stitch and bind it. They’re so pretty and satisfying. Fabric is so expensive now that I can’t stand wasting even little bits.
Oh crumbs......that was absolutely delightful. I would never have thought to cut the pieces of material to do this this way. I can't wait to make a mat for my sewing machine which often slips about. Thank you Rachel.
Thank you for the tutorial! When you were cutting up the fabric I said out loud that looks fun, and then you added it was! That turned out so beautiful. I don’t save small scraps but looks like that’s going to change! You’re a delight to watch and listen to. Thanks for another project that will make a great gift.
What a lovely idea, I save my little crumbs too. I use them as an alternative to stuff toys etc., I only save the cotton crumbs... which is what I mainly use...but others are saved to use in crafty/art work for my grandchildren. Waste not want not ❤
Absolutely gorgeous! Have been wondering what I’m gonna do with all my little pieces that I can’t throw away. Thank you for giving me a great idea. Love it so much.
I have seen this done before by an American lady, i have lots of liberty scraps and will so try making something with them with this method, thanks for the inspiration🤩
I’ve just given this a go with some Liberty scraps I couldn’t bear to get rid of - just made two mug rugs to give as a housewarming pressie! Thank you for the tutorial 😁
OMG Your work is so amazing!!! i gave up sewing dress making a few years because of my. job. I am retired now and just started to get back on track. You are an inspiration to me. watching from Kentucky USA
Super dramatic! A lovely tutorial with a Wowsers! end result. Would make a fun project for ornaments, stockings, etc. to hang for Christmas. Endless possibilities with whatever colorway chosen. Thank you for sharing this creative idea.
Great job Rachel! Love this idea for a mat under your sewing machine. I’ve made some small squares with scraps, but never used the netting over it. Definitely will be making this! ❤
Thanks for the cute tutorial I’ll definitely have a go. It always amazes me how quilts change as the process moves on - trimming the edges, adding the boarder, etc. very pretty indeed. I also love the houses and trees quilt on your wall 😊
Always wanted to make clean miters easily! Thanks, this should do it. I love the scraps quilt too. I’m a non quilter, but still have plenty of scraps, I can handle this quilt!
Such an original idea, lovely not to worry about accuracy :). Love that they're Liberty fabric scraps, my favourite shop in the world! Also thanks very much for the detailed look at how to do the binding well.
I BELIEVE this is the MOST easiest and PERFECT project to use scraps;esp of a collection that we love to buy, just CAN'T throw those lovely pieces away. ❤❤❤❤ Huge THANK you for your sister's creation and you sharing.

The result is gorgeous and the tulle hardly visible. I’m going to rescue all the crumbs from all my bins and try this! Delightful!
🤣🤣 it was so satisfying to cut them like that and ram them in there 🤣
Me, too! How fun and charming. Thank you!
Yeah! Very clever! I loved it! ❤
Me too. I couldn’t believe you were chopping them up into tiny bit. The result is amazing. I love it, and didn’t look too difficult to do. 😀
Me too.what a clever idea and sew easy for a beginner like me😊
I have been sewing for almost 70 years and that was one of the most amazing things I've ever seen
That’s what it’s all about :)
Normally, I think people talk too much with their tutorials. But my goodness, you have the sweetest voice! I thoroughly enjoyed your chattering as you worked away. Thank you for the tutorial!
No. She does talk too much. Get on with it. We don’t need to be charmed.
@elaineedgar2913 thank you Elaine, don't worry.. you didn't charm us with your comment either

I agree!! Her slow, clear explanations, perfect camera angles, and demonstration were so good! Makes me want to try this out NOW!
This is genius, I could see making a bag this way.
Absolutely!
Great video. The bag making was on one of the episodes of the 2024 The Great British sewing Bee on BBC
This is the prettiest and easiest way to use crumbs that I've ever seen. I try to not waste any materials when working on projects. I send my thanks to you and your thoughtful sister you made you the first one. God bless you.
Really nice. Wish my mom was still around, she always hated to toss out even the tiniest of scraps, I think she would have loved this technique.
You and your sister earn accolades for this approach. It is just awesome.
