I love it too, but did you actually say to stitch 1/4" from the edge of the paper, after already trimming the quilt top 1/4" from the edge of the paper?
Congratulations on reaching 400K subscribers. The plaque your husband made is much nicer than the official TH-cam ones. That was a really sweet thing he did for you.
Freezer paper was one of the star quilting supplies back in the early 1990s before we had so much bespoke kit for quilting. I used it for all of these things back then. I think I still have that roll. I started quilting again 2 years ago after a 25+ year hiatus (and have actually just about completed my UFOs from back then-two on their way to longarmer, one has two sides of hand sewing binding left, and two more completely done!)
Oh my gosh, I just bought some water soluble tear away, which works great, but this method is genius. I bought a whole 12" thick role of freezer paper along time ago and only use it for applique. I see this will really be helpful. Thank you and congratulations, 400K. Think of all the people you've helped, you've worked hard to make so many of us better at what we love.
Congratulation on your continued growth. It was fun to listen to a friend who just discovered you, a kid in a candy store! On freezer paper, if you want it thicker, you can iron sheets together [help if you iron them first before layering], also for longer strips, just over lap them, iron and you have a longer strip. Also, you can iron cut outs to a quilt top and then quilt around them, no markings on the top.
Karen, fantastic milestone on 400K subscribers. I stumbled upon your channel in 2019 when I made my first quilt (which which invoked tears and cursing). The cut straight, sew straight, press right tips in your fix common problems video helped me exorcise those demons. You've help so many with your practical tips and your encouragement and inspiration.
Hi Karen, I am so happy about you reaching 400I subscribers, I have known about how talented you are, and your great ability to teach. It is so nice to know how good your husband is as well.
Thank you so much Karen for all of the wonderful thing I have learned from you. The latest item is the use of freezer paper. I used it when sewing borders on a quilt and it made it so much easier and no WAVES. 400,000 subscribers is so great.
Oh my goodness! I've used freezer paper for the last 40 years for my garment sewing, I ironed my very thin tissue like clothing patterns onto this paper to make my patterns thicker and last much much longer. You are the first sewist I have seen on YT that has shown this hack. Thank you very much for sharing the many ways one can use this very useful paper! Congratulations on your 400K!
As you were discussing other uses of freezer paper, I am working on a floral appliqué using freezer paper on the wrong side of my fabric. I usually needle turn and use forceps to remove the paper when I’m close to finishing that motif.
Freezer paper on HEXIES!!!!! O MY. I've wanted to make a hexie quilt but balked at the card backs and the extra stitching. Freezer paper to the rescue. Much more do-able now )))))
@@katherinephillips8952 Hi, maybe a dumb question but what do you mean by "all layers paper side up"? I never noticed any difference on both sides of freezer paper. To me, both are the same. Thank you in advance 🙂
I use the freezer paper all the time in my sewing room here in the states. I have a jet printer and I just cut my paper to size and just sent it through the machine. But I only use one piece at a time in front of my printer paper . Thank you for sharing God bless you and your family have blessed evening.
Another great group of lessons on freezer paper, I especially like the idea of printing labels on to fabric. I did hand write and embroider my first couple of quilts but that soon went by the way. I confess I have been lazy the last 5 or so years, I have made about a dozen quilts for charity and thought a label didn’t matter on them, but I need to rethink that attitude now 😊😊
Congratulations Karen on your accomplishment. Clever hubby making your keepsake. Clever ideas with freezer paper. Not something I usually keep on hand but must look for some.👏♥️🇦🇺
I'd forgotten about how handy freezer paper is for sewing and quilting. My great-grandmother used to use it in her "Baltimore" applique quilts. Also, I want to thank you for the video you did long ago about the Panasonic cordless iron. It made replacing my cordless iron after a sudden failure of it far easier than I imagined.
Now that makes more sense. Freezer paper gets rid of the multiple bits of paper )))) Just ONE piece that comes off really nice and clean. )) I can handle that. The big star is inspiring !! Your hubby is a keeper. Make sure he gets plenty of treats. ))) Clapping cheering and confetti for your 400 000 subscribers YAYYYYY )))) We all know how THAT happened )))
I couldn’t appliqué without it! I cut my FP patterns on my Silhouette Cameo. I also use it for my infrequent FP piecing - what a joy to be free of tearing paper!
Congratulation!! Your husband really did a fantastic job on your reward!! You deserve it and sweet that he realizes it too!! Big fan!! You make me smile!
Karen, I love and trust you so much, when I saw this video come up, I went bought a roll before I even watched the video. Congratulations on your goal reached!! On to half a million!!
Huzzah! Karen, Congratulations 🎉💖🍀 What a nice guy, quite the AWARD! THANK YOU for sharing this with us! I am starting to use Freezer paper and am excited to learn all these new (to me) applications. YOU certainly explain and demonstrate very well, you are so helpful. I wish I could go on your trip with you, such an adventure! Thank you again, bless you.😊❤❤🧵🪡✂️🦓Liz
Congratulations on 400,000 ❤ I have used freezer paper to make shapes with felt for several years when I make children's books with fabric, learning other things I can use it for is great, thank you for your videos
Congratulations! I am so happy for you and want to tell you again how happy I am that I found you and your videos. They are always full of great ideas and instructions. Thank you for all your hard work and great videos!! ❤
I get it finally! This video has been so helpful. I’m addicted to the precision of the economy block now. making an Ispy quilt for my little 3 YO niece. Thanks again!
Besides quilts and bags, i also sew little girls dresses. I fuse the tissue paper patterns to freezer paper, then trace the size i need onto pattern paper. I never cut the tissue pattern and can make several sizes from 1 pattern
Great video! When I first learned to sew, a friend taught me how to make quillows. We made the blanket part using the envelope method putting the top and bottom next to each other and the batting on top. We would pin freezer paper around the edges so the sewing machine foot wouldn’t get tangled in the batting.
I’ve used parchment for patterns in the past, but now I guess i need freezer! This is amazing for all sewing. I’m new to quilting but I will be picking some up. Thanks so much
Love the idea of using the freezer tape to prevent stretching of bias edges; thanks for that! And congrats on 400,000 subscribers; you teach us so much!
Thank you Karen!!! Why didn't I think of using freezer paper for foundation paper piecing!!? (Maybe because I avoid foundation paper piecing... so I haven't worked at it! 😅) Anyway, nice explanation about freezer, parchment and waxed paper. So many folks are confused about the difference! As always NICE JOB! And congrats on 400K!! ❤🥰
Congratulations on your milestone! I’ve been working with freezer paper for years but learned some new techniques from you. Thank you for all your hard work to put these awesome tutorials together.
Thank you so much Karen, I really really enjoyed watching you show us all about using freezer paper,, in our sewing projects. This has been very very helpful and useful too. Please stay safe and well too xxxx Mags ❤❤❤❤
Congratulations on reaching 400,000! I hand write my labels because I don't have an ink jet printer. Freezer paper as a stabilizer works well for this as well. Iron the paper onto the back, write on the front, peel away the paper, iron to heat-seal the ink, and you're good to go.
You know, I love bold colors and certainly am drawn to certain colors. The thing I love most about quilting is the variety of colors, moods and themes you can create and get out of your head, moving to great additions to projects rather than limiting yourself. Some of my best times are created when I have a shared concept with a person I am making the quilt for! 😊
My mother actually used wax paper to clean starch off her iron. Run the hot iron over the wax paper then over a scrap of muslin several times until iron is clean. Works like a charm. What great useable ideas for that fat roll freezer paper I have,
Congrats on your latest milestone! And thank you for this video, I was not interested in trying paper piecing (all that hand-sewing!) until I learned it could be done with freezer paper and my machine. It's really fun.

I cut the Reynolds roll of Freezer paper to 8.5x11 sheets and let them sit flat under a weight for a few days. They go through my printer with no issues. I love FPP with freezer paper!
I love this video! I’ve used freezer paper several times. I was asked to make 12 memory bears, all out of bathrobe fabric, which wasn’t the suggested fabric type. The freezer paper was great to cut out the pieces. Also, I was making tea cozies, over 100, and used it for the circle at the bottom of the cozy.
I'm not surprised that you have reached 400,000 subscribers. Even though I've been quilting since the late 1970's, I always learn something new and\or get inspired from watching your excellent videos. I use Kim Diehl's Best Applique Freezer Paper in our printer without having to bond it to paper first. Just make sure the print goes on the unwaxed side. Great idea using it as a stabilizer on bias edges. I have used scraps of freezer paper to start or end a seam that wants to "chewed up" and a leader or ender doesn't do the trick. I put the freezer paper under the fabric for the first few stitches and then tear it off later. These situations are usually on non quilt projects.
Aaaah, thank you for showing Piece 1 and Piece 2 so clearly! Every other tutorial glosses over getting started with FPP, but that’s the most confusing step. Also, thank you for the printer usage instructions. I just splurged on the letter size freezer paper.
Congrats on 400K subscribers! Well earned and I love the award your husband crafted. For turned edge appliqué, I recently experimented with parchment paper. It is transparent enough the easily trace the exact design shape. A glue pen works great to hold the folded edges in place for stitching. Before I finish the stitching, I lift the fabric and the entire parchment form easily releases and pops out. Then I stitch down the last section. Usually I choose a gentle curve or straight away rather than a point or sharpe turn as the spot to release the form. The light weight parchment may require a gentler treatment while gluing the edge, but there is no longer a need to cut into the back of the background fabric to remove the freezer paper. I believe this will extend the life of the quilt.
Congratulations Karen!! How nice of your husband to make you something special to commemorate the event.
He's a keeper
That tip for using 2" strips of fp to stabilize long bias stretchy edges to add the border is GOLD
Thank you!!!
Glad to share. I use it often and you can use the same strips over and over again
I love it too, but did you actually say to stitch 1/4" from the edge of the paper, after already trimming the quilt top 1/4" from the edge of the paper?

I remember when we were kids we put beautiful fall maple leaves between two pieces of waxed paper and ironed them. We could keep them for years!
Funny, I was thinking about that while making the video. Those beautiful colours. And the waxed paper made them so shiny
Mom would do that with our rare four leaf clover finds!
I have a red leaf I pressed in a book in 1968!
Congratulation on your continued growth. It was fun to listen to a friend who just discovered you, a kid in a candy store! Congratulations Karen. Doesn't surprise me. The content of your videos has been priceless to me. Thank you 🎉

Tip: For copying, card stock works even better than ordinary paper.
Great tip. Thank you
It probably makes the fabric stiffer for more even distribution of ink.
Be sure to use an INK-JET PRINTER!!! Toner will not attach itself to fabric.
Congratulations Karen! Wow! 400,000 Subscribers! What an accomplishment! Kudos to your husband for making you a 400K plaque!

This is has been my favorite technique, with a few exceptions.
Great tips..🤩...such a useful product! I use it in dress making, too!
It really is!
