  • Last weekend I donned the blue vest of my first ever running club - Barnsley AC - to take part in fixture 1 of the Northern Track and Field League at the City Stadium, Sheffield.
    I had put myself down to complete the 3000m Steeplechase, the 5000m and a leg of the 4 x 400m relay.
    Whilst not my best ever personal performances, I took great pleasure in helping my team get points, and in supporting grass roots athletics in the UK

    3 events seems like enough for anyone, let alone 7! Well done, John 👍🏻🏃‍♂️

    I really admire your spirit of having a crack at everything John. Those Steeplechase hurdles must have felt like doing the high jump! Legs like Jelly for the 4X 400 I bet! Bloody well Done John 👏✅💥💪

      Thanks. I need to develop a sort of vaulting technique I think for any further improvement.

    That's a great video John, and well done! Brings back memories of long journeys from Boston to Wakefield, Cleckheaton, Rotherham etc to run the 5000m only to get roped into other events beforehand. Once did 800 in 2:18 and the next slowest guy was low 2 minutes 😳😂

    Brilliant John, well done! 3k steeplechase AND 5k (plus a 400m) We loved the the water jump hurdle technique 😁 Rory said if he squinted he thought he was watching the Olympics 😆
    Woman don’t do steeplechase do they?

      Haha. It's A Knockout rather than the Olympics. Actually at the next meeting there is a 2000m S/C for women but no men's event on that occasion. Not sure why it's changed apart from to spread the love. I really enjoy team running especially in that old blue vest.

    Bless your heart, the technique in the steeplechase did make me think.... "Who do you think you are kidding mister hitler if you think old England's done"..... 🎵🎵🎶🎵🎵

    What a brilliant video, you were great and not a mention of wet feet and shoes.
    Shame some of the thugs on the streets aren’t getting involved in athletics as they would be too knackered to do anyone any harm.
    Inspirational John.

      Thanks Trevor. I've always loved team events of this nature. Yes not much Olympic legacy around at these meetings.

    😂 I bet that water was cold. Ive still never done any running on the track, I need to change that.

      We've tried every type of running going and know what we love and what we admire from a distance (fell running).

    I last did the 3000m steeplechase as part of the icosathlon world Champs! You are only allowed 1 hand on the barrier! Can't believe NA didn't DQ you mate!!!

    • @tworunningbrooms
      @tworunningbrooms  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I somehow think DQing people from a competition which can't even half fill the races is not the answer here.

    • @jasonnewell2203
      @jasonnewell2203 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @tworunningbrooms ha ha, I agree but more masters get DQed than anyone due to the old school attitudes of some officials and NA are some of the worse! Great to see though mate, as you know I created Try The Track launched by EA to get more athletes on the track so a massive fan.

      I think the Steeplechase as there's no expectation or pressure at all!

    The first time I ran on a track was during a north London half marathon race about 8 years ago and was shocked how “bouncy” the track was 😱
