The TCL C845 is an affordable budget-level 65-inch TV that offers plenty of features and an image that is bright with plenty of punch.
The problem for movie enthusiasts is that this brightness is inaccurate and can cause the image to look washed out in dark viewing rooms. There is a lack of contrast and blacks can look milky as a result, which is unusual for a VA panel LCD TV. The reason is the local dimming algorithm adds too much brightness and gamma adjustment to SDR and HDR10 content, with some raised blacks and black bars that are not pure black. This will not be as noticeable for bright room viewing where the C845 is going to spend most of its working life. Hopefully, TCL will fix this issue with a firmware update for those looking for accurate images.
For everything else, the C845 is great value for money with very good gaming features including two full bandwidth HDMI 2.1 ports and eARC on one of the HDMI 2.0 ports so you don’t lose a 2.1 if you want to add a soundbar. As a large-screen gaming TV, it is a fantastic option giving users access to the latest features, a huge screen with very good HDR performance and fast input lag for even the most demanding of gamers. For all those reasons it gets a Recommended badge.
The good
Over 2000 nits HDR peak in Movie mode
Very good value for money gaming performance
Two HDMI 2.1 inputs at 48Gbps and eARC on an HDMI 2.0 port
Decent sound quality
The not so good
SDR can look washed out due to an over-bright local dimming algorithm
HDR tone mapping is overly bright with HDR10
Dynamic HDR tone mapping over brightening the image
Some light DSE and banding seen

I just bought the 55" C745K. Very surprised at how bright the picture is while keeping Blacks dark. Sound is amazing too. Very impressed.
Mi sensations are similar to you
can u pls share ur settings I just got c745 too
Thanks, very impressive review. I think this is the set for me
Same buying Thursday , did you get one ? How is it ?
Keep seeing this review and the U8K and for the life of me can’t undestand which is better. QA issues aside is the U8K better purely in terms of picture quality?
Would this TV be ok for an outdoor undercover patio. Just thinking it will have the brightness to handle it. I was looking at Samsung The Terrace TV but the TCL is half the price.
What was the firmware used in this review?
Hey thanks for thr review
Can this tv do dolby vision at 4k 120?
Also have you had any vrr flickering on the tv for gaming? Especially at 4k?
Does this tv also do 444 chroma at 4k 120fps??
9:49
thats so weird. the sidebof the hisense is bright while the right is dark in the same scene while on the tcl the exact same scene the right side is bright and the left side is dark... this is why tvs are so confusing today
This tv supposed to have freesat built in but I can't get it turned in. Is there anyway you could tell me if this tv does.
What is the viewing angle like on this TV and the 55 inch version?
Hi, Does the TCL C845 have PVR/Timeshift function or not?
On TCL global website in the specifications (additional feature) for all C845 display sizes is written that the the TV has PVR/Timeshift (Comply with different regional standards).
A few of my friends have this device, but they can't manage to operate it, there is not such function.
The C845 did recognize the external SSD and HDD via USB Port, but they still could not bring to work any PVR/Timeshift function on it.
Did you find such function and it works? if so, how and where it's possible to use/start it on an european regional C845 TV?
Thank you.
Looking for a 50 inch Android TV. Any suggestions would be great 👍🏻
I don’t understand why these TV’s are not everywhere, amazing piece of kit can’t fault the picture quality. Needs a sound bar and sub but wow, even my wife who hates tech loves the picture quality on this. 2:19
Your wife hates tech? Why? I'm glad my girlfriend is heavily into tech.
I know what you mean, I think it's because TV is actually a much more complex area of tech than we all think. I'm into tech, but it took me days and days of deep research, watching, reading, googling, comparing. I didn't even know TCL or Hisense are so darn good.
And people just go for the familiar reputable brand. And marketing people are clever, they know how to trick us.
Is there an ips matrix and no PWM in it?
Will the c845 get uk catch up in future maybe from from an undate
What 75-inch TV would you choose, C845 or C935, with the Black Friday price of about 1500 Eur? 845 price is without the black Friday offer about 2100 Eur
Ofc the 1500 euro bro😂
How does this tv compare to tcl qm8b, thank you
Hi, I'm seriously considering this TV, but am also really keen on the Phillips xtra mini led, both now at the exact same price... Which would you recommended given the price is identical? Thanks
Soz if you've already bought but the ambilight is phenomenal I have a 6 year old pus9002 oled and it's never missed a beat or have I experienced any stutter I'd go for Philips all day ... The longevity alone should be the decider ps I also have 2 TCL for rental properties and 4 Philips the one pus 8536s for bedrooms and my partner's house
@@WeeSmokeyYeah, Ambilight is awesome. The problem is that Philips's mini-LED (Xtra) uses sh*tty Philip's OS. While Philips's "The One" got an Android, but a bad non-mini-LED screen. That's why I've chosen TCL C845. Philips killed themselves.
I wouldn't say they have killed themselves thats a bit harsh I do understand were you are coming from I ended up selling my miniled to my brother after 2 weeks and getting the 907 oled in a 65 as it has android 11 which comes with ambilight + hue control for the bulbs and I am really glad I made the move to be honest @@8000860
How is it bigger than other 65" TVs? Since its a huge 65"...
I brought TCL c845 65 inch today very good tv using it as monitor/entertainment pretty good bang for buck tv was gonna pick u7k but I found the blacks were deeper and everything else was good all rounder tv
How is it in a dark room?
@@King-Nova very bright tho colours are washed out blacks are amazing almost OLED level besides that just few issues with it having lvrr flicking still missing around with the tv settings also hooked up to my PC as a monitor for gaming if you have any more questions feel free to ask 🙂 Australian version.
@@Icecreamweeb what if you set the brightness at low will it fix the washed out colors?
Oh no I have heard of this flickering issues before, I wonder if it can be fixed. My main use will be for ps5 gaming so I wonder if it is capable of bringing out the best of the PS5 or will I have issues with flickering etc @@Icecreamweeb
@@abdulrhmunbendago3281 little bit better have it at 30 at night and 60 in the day depends also have colour saturation at 60 Default is 50 but looks better
Plex working on this TV??
Thanks a lot for this detailed review. Yet, I've got one important question before pulling the trigger and buying this TV as soon as the 'Black week' deals will be offered. Oddly, TCL moved the eARC port to one of the HDMI 2.0 (or even 1.4?) ports. Will there be a great disadvantage when connecting my HDMI 2.1 capable Atmos surround system to the non-HDMI 2.1 port?
Nope, even Dolby stated hdmi 2.1 is not needed for Atmos.
I just returned the c645 for this tv, and it was hard to get rid of the 645 because it was so good.
@@Ghostface944How is this compared to your old tv then?
@@Ghostface944how the c845 with you now
Sounds like a fake comment
I have the 85" Tcl c845 and it is the best purchase I have made, although sometimes Android TV goes a little "crazy" and makes me have to restart the TV, it is nothing serious but it is annoying
Sorry to be a nerd here, but TCL has Google TV, not Android TV.
Unfortunately, all of the TV operating systems have their issues. Android TV actually lags even more over time than Google TV. Fire TV(Amazon) is one big interactive commercial. Tizen(Samsung) is very limited as well as WebOS(LG) and Vidaa(Hisense non-US). And all of them can have lag issues.
How's the sound quality?
Do you have problems with the black bars in bright hdr scenes?
@@jakobbode18 black bars(top and bottom, very rarely on sides too) are normal for most of the movies in HDR - that's the way the movie was filmed("cinema" picture format). You can try to get rid of them by certain options in your video player, but there's no miracle - they'll just "magnify"(scale) the picture by sacrificing the corners of the picture(simply lost).
If you have black bars inside the actual picture, or "on top of your picture" - then that's definitely not normal.
Hi
How does this tv compare to the new Panasonic MX950 mini led tv recently released?
Thanks
I’m pretty sure nothing compares to the TCL dimming zones and panel
@@Ghostface944tcl has worst panels its cheap tv
Can someone help, does this tv support dolby Vision at 4k 120hz?
Many models dont even support proper 120hz despite him ranting on about how good it is for modern gaming.
Tcl have recently started using the pantonic 700 chips used in the hisense models, but their is absolute zero gaurantee you will get one if you buy this tv.
If you dont get one with the right chip dolby 120 support probability is 0%.
How many screen bits does the tcl c845 have? 10 bit(8bit+frc) or native 10 bit
Native 10 bit
Does it have the "audio only mode"?
Yes it does
The catch is the how quickly they forget about the model and stop doing SW upgrades
TCL C845 or Hisense U8K?
TCL has wayyyy more dimming zones so TCL
@@Ghostface944 Yup I bought one of their latest TV lineups (20/22/2023), and was delivered to me yesterday (22/10/2023), the TCL C805. Coming from a Samsung MU6310 UHDTV purchased back in 2018, oh my God, I was surprised on how good the TCL is performing, especially with the motion and sound performance. I thought cheap TV brands like the TCL will not be able to deliver, but damn I was wrong. My wife was also convinced already, the first movie we watched yesterday to test and calibrate the settings using C845 settings was Transformers Rise of the Beast in HDR10+ and Dolby Atmos format.
It has higher peak brightness lol. Does not have “way more dimming zones”
In fact if you did 2 seconds of research its obvious hisense has more dimming zones at every single size lol.
What's the catch? Most of them fail within a month going by reports on reddit.
How would this set compare to my old LG B7 Oled?
I wanna ask the exact same question
I will be using in a dark room with no light so bit worries about rhe brightness issue you mentioned. Is it worth to just get the c745 instead since its cheaper and lower nits? I will be missing out on mini leds though and i guess thats the only thing. I will be using for ps5 mostly but some movies to.
do as hdtv test & other ppl did. reduce brightness & local dimming to mid, this fix the dark room issues aas tv is already too too bright for dartk room till they hopefully do needed software update
The response time is unnoticeably better, and the audio i believe is much better on the 845 , but they're very similar. if you worry about burning I'd go for the mini if the price difference isn't worth it. Cause really the main difference is the brightness of the mini LEDs and audio between these two.. I've been asking myself the same question but I'm going for the 845 simply for the mini-LEDs because i don't want to worry about burning and I usually keep my devices for very long years.. it's just more future proof.
but i still believe that the worry about burning is exaggerated.. if you switch tvs often, just go for the 745. .
@@malealoy5622 Sorry if I'm missing something here. But what kind of burning you talking about? This isn't a OLED TV, I'm confused. ^^
@3lementa1
His talking shit as you are correct it isn't a Oled
What did you do
Tcl 55c845 or samsung 55qn85c for ps5, netflix, hbo max… and some sports watching?
TCL. At this point only the certain 90 Samsung series can outperform TCL's 845.
TCL surely

@@septianrishal If outside the US then neither as the European variants have quality issues! I’m deciding between a Sony Bravia or a Samsung Neo QLED (both mini led).
Tcl
Tough choice. I'd go for TCL, since it's their flagship model (unlike U7K). Also I've chosen TCL because of the versatile Google TV.
Hey what is the pwm flickering frequency?
The TV has an interesting flicker pattern, with three simultaneous flickers being measured. The main flicker, which operates at 4000Hz, a secondary frequency measured at 15Khz (~15000Hz), and then a pulsing flicker at 60Hz.

Dirty screen effect is an instant deal breaker for me.
The catch is the tv doesnt properly output 120hz.
In another review it shows will not output 4:4:4 chroma @120hz, which is pretty shit on tcls part.
Dolby vision basically fails to work on it in any beneficial way, 2 ways that both u7k/u8k hisense models crap on it, both are sub par faults.

Any recommendations for an OLED that can switch between freeview and freeSat easier than the LG
Does it have a whopping great 30 day warranty, and where will the consumer stand with this massive, hard-to-transport TV when it goes faulty on day 31?
1 yr standard fir cheaper sets., extended local shop warranty available
@@desifooddiaries5890hisense is 3 years warranty in aus...
In my country (Czechia) there is a mandatory 2 year warranty, and TCL offers extra 3 years for free.
I had an issue with a faulty HDMI port on my 85 inch C845 and they've sent someone for free to fix it. It didn't help so they just took the TV back themselves in a truck from my apartment and issued a refund. I'm sorry that in your country the service is this terrible.
However, I enjoyed the TV so much that I think I'll just buy it again when the money comes back, hopefully with a working HDMI port this time:D
Best panel for gaming is OLED
Can I game on it at more than 1080p?
Yes
1080 is only for 240hz PC gaming, console only hits 120hz max and anything at or below that is 4K

WoW. Very very unimpressed with this review! The way you gloss over no Freeview or catchup??? That's a serious and inconvenient ommission in my view and no 'contact customer services for a free stick' is going to cut it.
I didn't gloss over it, I mentioned it in full and that TCL will provide a work around. You'll also find the same is true of many Google TV equipped sets this year, including the flagship Philips and Sony TVs, but they don't offer a workaround.
Same with Sony, except Sony won't even bother to answer your query.
