- Today I am renewing the Studebaker Golden Hawk. The model is very rare, so I was glad to get it. I decided to unconventionally cover this model with 24K gold flakes because I have always had a great love for Studebaker. You can turn on subtitles in your language in the video. We need to know that this company has created a lot of really great cars over the years. The name Golden Hawk prompted me to do just that. In this episode, I did not use a primer, but a special glue for sticking gold petals. I protected the whole thing with a clear acrylic varnish. The gold application process is very laborious and the applied structure differs from conventional paint. Therefore, not everyone can like it. I made the missing tires from black-dyed molding polyurethane, and the box resembled the original one used to sell this model. Thank you for watching the movie, I publish videos with the repair of cars on Tuesdays and Saturdays.

I was just scrolling through TH-cam videos when I saw the Studebaker. Then I read the caption.....and I said to myself, "Naaah. He's not going to actually put real GOLD on the car?" And then I watched you do it. Wow. Now you've got a true gold Goldenhawk. When you say it took 4 hours to get it right....I believe you. Great Original Job. Chalon Aubrey.
Many thanks!
Love your channel this one didn’t come out too great but an amazing attempt
Thank you very much
Bardzo ciekawa renowacja. Dzięki i powodzenia w kolejnych projektach.
Dzięki wielkie
Beautiful restoration on a rare model(like you said). Even when Studybaker was building cars, it was rare to see one.
Thank you very much
Excellent resto applyong that gold leaf took some patience
Thank you very much Andrew
Paweł, jestem zachwycona, zdecydowanie kciuki ode mnie za to 👍🏼.
Bardzo dziękuję za udostępnienie. Miłego weekendu dla ciebie i twojej rodziny i pozostań bezpieczny i zdrowy.
Trzymaj się dobrej roboty mój przyjacielu 👍🏼

Here you can take the concept of the "Golden Hawk" literally...😜🤣
Excellent work my dear Paul. I can imagine it takes hours to apply the gold foil and I must admit I wouldn't have the dexterity to do it. The result is fantastic and unique in every way. 👍🏼😎
Paul, I'm thrilled, definitely a thumbs up from me for this 👍🏼.
Thank you so much for sharing. Have a great weekend to you and your family and stay safe and sound.
Keep up the good work, mate.👍🏼
Greetings from the DIE CAST crazy old man on the North Sea shore.

Exzellente Arbeit mein lieber Paul.
Mach weiter so mein Freund.👍🏼

Spectacular!
When I bought my packet of gold leaf, gold was still $32US per ounce. It's over $1700US now and my packet has long since disappeared from my workshop.
Very adventuresome of you, Paul. Just stunning.

Thank you! Cheers!
Nice casting!
Gold leafing, interesting result to see.
Cheers Marc D
Thank you! Cheers!
Tip: if you place the gold flake in lemon water and electroplate the car with it, there will be no wrinkles at all, like there's no overspray when something is powder coated. It will probably be shinier too! Nonetheless it is beautiful in the end! Great idea, great results. Respect +1
Thanks for the info!

The gold leaf looks great on the Hawk! I am a Studebaker lover as well and have owned two 1951 Champions and one pickup. Very under appreciated vehicles.

When I was in my childhood back in the 1960s, I had a lot of British Dinky die-cast metal toy cars. I owned German Marklin models, and French Solido makes as well. Thanks to my wonderful mother who bought for me. She has passed now and I miss her very much. These toy cars were very detailed. I had everything from a Rolls Royce to a Mini. I looked after them, and before I moved to live and work in Australia, I sold them. You do exceptional job restoring cars. I like this Studebaker.
Cool. Thank you very much
Fantastic restoration
Thank you very much Glyn
When you do pre-work for a project, do you picture in your mind the finished vehicle, or do you make it happen as you go along?
rather, I assume the initial wounds of the project. It is known that sometimes the final effect may differ from the initial assumptions
Hi Paul - this video is really GOLDEN!
Thank you very much
Pozdrawiam
awesome job as always my friend
Thank you very much
fantastic
good job paul restorer😍👍
Thank you so much 😀
Restauração Interessante e Diferente
Gostei ,Ficou Bem Legal.
Muito obrigado
That would be your most expensive car now Paul😁Good job again mate
Thank you so much Ryan
The original coating came off a lot easier than I would have expected! I was never keen on those plated Corgis, but your restoration works not badly at all, though a four hour 'paint job' is a bit of a tall order!
I wonder what they actually used, myself. many years ago I had one of these castings, too, also plated. I could scrape off the remains of plating with a sharpened screwdriver and it flaked off easily.
the entire coating was removed from the model within a minute and I also thought it would take much longer. Kind regards
Certainly, the metallized coating was silver in color and on it they wore a colorless varnish depending on what shade of Plater they wanted to get, they added such a dye To the colorless varnish
@@PaulRestorer sounds like an early version of what the Molotov pens are using, with a clear coating. I have seen these castings in silver and gold-ish livery, too. but the paint coat doesn't seem to stay long, it seems.
Amazing quality Paul 👍😎
Thank you very much Raymond
Damn at the beginning i thought that car it might look like a chocolate candy ball or something like that , but at the end the result was astonishing, thanks for this i learn all the time now im ready to fix my car toys from my childhood
Thank you very much, cool
💯💯💯👍👍👍👍👍
Very nice job 👍👌
Thank you vwery much Mark
Hi Paul, did you find stressful the process of the leafs of gold??? Would you do it again??
It was quite tiring. I will try to do something else with gold, but in a completely different form. Kind regards
A different approach.. But I love it!!
Super 👍 👍 👍
Thank you very much Andrijan
Bravo Paul on peut dire maintenant que tu as des doigts en or...
Cool
Great job not to everyone’s liking as you have found, but so what it’s your model to do as you please what’s the use of restoring if you don’t push the bounds now and then ( I quite like it )
Thank you very much Alan
Look pretty good Paul.
Will caustic soda damage styrene model parts?
Thanks for sharing Paul.
Caustic soda is extremely volatile. It will eat plastic for lunch. Paint stripper will take paint off plastic -- try it on a spare body first, as a test. Chrome plating will come off plastic parts after a bleach bath of a few hours.
Be safe.
@@randytaylor1258 ok thank you. Trying to strip urethane paint off a styrene model body.
So far, my caustic soda has never eaten anything made of plastic. To be sure, you can try a cooler temperature bath rather than a boiling solution. However, when it comes to chrome parts, an ultrasonic cleaner removes chrome perfectly. Kind regards
@@PaulRestorer thank you very much Paul
if all else fails, Carsoin Model Sports sells a paint remover specifically made for lexane and polystyrene. I used it on an ancient siku plastic model slobbered into next tuesday with modelers paint, and it worked great. put it on and carefully scrape the paint off... and the old plastic is still alive.
Goldfinger's car 😁....well done Paul 👍
Thank you very much
Almost pissed I sat through the whole thing and the end it looked like a scuffed up turd
For comparison purposes, show us your work!
Very nice!
Thank you! Cheers!
great job
Thank you very much
beautiful
Amazing job Paul ! Thanks for sharing!
Please, what type or polyurethane brand are you using to clone the tyres? And the glass liquid restorer?
Thanks!!
thank you very much. this is a normal molding polyurethane used for example in the construction of concrete paving stones. the Polish name will tell you nothing. you have to look for something in your market. this polyurethane is two-component. while the liquid for regenerating plastic is Spanish and is called gauzy agent
@@PaulRestorer Thank you Paul, if is a spanish brand it will be not difficult for me to find it, as I' m Spanish .Good job
Thanks for sharing
Thanks for watching!
Q locura! Un trabajo sublime,felicidades!
Muchas gracias
What drill do you use for the screws?
I use a 1.6 mm drill
My favorite youtube channel.
Thank you very much Henk
A w czym maczałeś tą szybę samochodu ?
It's either self shining floor polish like MMM does or if you look at some of his other videos you can see the label reads Gauzy, and it's a glass coat, agent that acts like a clearcoat
Szia Paul.Nagyon klassz. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Grazie mille
Awesome job.
Thank you very much
Very different Paul , but very cool.
I like the gold leaf work . I am working on a V W Bug now , in a different metal, you will like it . , coming out soon .
SOOO KOOOLLLLLL .
mIKE .
Many thanks!
I wonder what the car would of looked like electro plated?
I'm sure it would look great but it's quite a complex process. maybe sometime in the future I'll try to do something like that
