    Thanks so much for making this. I have worked on my posture for the entire year and got it to a really good stage (I thought) but started to develop pain in a shoulder, my mid back, neck, traps, even sciatica like tingling, allsorts. I thought it was due to being in bad posture so I'd stick my chest out and put my head super far back to try stop the pain, but it'd get worse. I'm so glad I found this video. I feel so stupid haha but also so unbelievably relieved. I even had xrays done thinking I had something wrong up there but they found nothing out of ordinary. All they found was really inflamed upper back muscles and shoulders.
    Thanks again. Will update this message if it goes away and doesn't come back :)

      Thanks JM. Yes this is a common misconception about standing up too straight, which is why we did this video. It can cause more loading on many muscles and joints.

    I’ve been working on flattening my rib flare for a year. Recently I sprained my t5 rib apophoses bilaterally so severely I went to the er. X ray showed a stress fracture of the rib about 5mm from the joint.

    • @nwpg2
      @nwpg2  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sorry to hear this Nathan. It's possible that you may not be performing the exercises optimally, or over doing them. However, it is highly unlikely that this would cause a stress fracture, so you may want to see your doctor about having some further tests, eg blood tests, bone density tests.

    • @tarp11z
      @tarp11z 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Same. So many doctors and practitioners don't seem to be very helpful, right?
      I would find a pelvic floor physical therapist. Everything above the pelvis can manifest above it. The body is an I-beam from the pelvis to the shoulders. If the PT doesn't help, try a Rolfer. Also, I just discovered what is called a Hiphoook. Not sure if it helps yet.
      BTW, either if you know if you're supposed to breathe in or out during this exercise?

    • @nwpg2
      @nwpg2  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi RoseAnn, by your description it sounds like you have a thoraco lumbar scoliosis. These exercise will help with the anterior rib flare, but not the rotation aspect of your ribs. For this you may need to see a health practitioner to get specific exercises which can be monitored for their effects on you. This can be treated effectively but not eliminated.

    When i do any version i have pain in my pelvis/low ab. Any guess as to why? Thank you for you videos

    • @nwpg2
      @nwpg2  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi Christy, make sure you are not over using your superficial abdominal muscles, rather the deeper transversus abdominus. If you are doing it correctly, that pain should reduce as you mobilise your ribs and thoracic spine with the exercises. If it does persist, then you may have more stubborn unhappy joints or muscles that may need releasing by a professional.

  • @TheRandomTom

    Great video, will start doing the exercises everyday now. I do have one question, my father, brother, and myself all have rib flare as well as pectus excavatum. We have always believed it is genetic, and I have heard doing core exercises could fix rib flare. Would these exercises apply even if I was born with rib flare?

    • @bluexberry1928
      @bluexberry1928 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Update

    • @nwpg2
      @nwpg2  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes they would, but it will take some time to change. The main question is: Is you genetic posture causing more strain on your body?" If you experience pain or stiffness in this area, it possibly is. But some people are born with certain conditions that do not place more load on their bodies. These exercises may be unnecessary then. If you're not sure, its best to have this checked by a health professional.

    • @nwpg2
      @nwpg2  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Luke, it's unlikely to help single ribs, it has more of a general effect on the rib cage and posture. If you have a focal area of concern, it's best you have this checked by a health professional.

    If you do the prostration as the Muslims do in their daily 5 prayers you will notice it's exactly the exercise you are teaching , infact even better cz when you're in the prostration, the weight of lungs and heart is naturally lifted off of the diaphragm making if easier to put the rib cage in :)
