I needed this video, my left rib is a little to the front , nothing much of a big deal, but because of that left rib, i cant get a good view of my ab, great video btw
Now I know why my posture looks like that (like an S shape) and why I can't correct it and why my lower back is arched and why I don't want to do traditional ABS training, and why my lower back feels tight after some time on legs, and are close to the pain and I want to lay down until it releases🧐 I signed up for Elite Video Membership 3 weeks ago and after trying out some classes I ended up at class "TVA train" and doing it every day for a good reason 💪🏼 I can't find one video where I saw some beautiful graphics and explanations about ribcage and how it affects shoulders, which is one more of my problems 😏I thought it was from Ian, but the idea is the same as here ... Here is the video with the solutions. th-cam.com/video/ViUbwQcObXo/w-d-xo.html The ribcage should move on the inhale and exhale. During the inhale you would ideally get 360 degrees of expansion in the belly, side, chest, and back. A poor inhale will looks like a rib flare with arching your back. Hi! I got anterior pelvic tilt and one sided rib flare (the left one more than the right), I often get lower back pain if I stand too much, any advice? I’m training abs twice a week
Hey Nick, I would work on these three things for a few weeks and then progress with our Foundation program. I'll link everything below. Intro To Core: Every morning is ideal th-cam.com/video/cSruQzCPhOQ/w-d-xo.html Side planks on the left side: Add three to four sets to workouts. Maybe an extra set or two every day with your left hand down. There are most likely structural changes due to the pectus that won’t change much but you can definitely improve especially with chest expansion. Inverted breathing is money for them. I would suggest our core and breathing program for anyone with pectus
You can Absolutley make changes with pectus especially at the lower ribs. It’s important to note that the actual pectus (chest/ sternum) is only going to change visibly a little if at all. What you can do is improve your function and strength so that it doesn’t hold you back in anyway. Start with the part 2 exercises. th-cam.com/video/ViUbwQcObXo/w-d-xo.html
I’m sorry I do not know what you mean. There is zero downside to doing the exercises as it will only strengthen your core and improve your breathing so I would just do them and see if what you are talking about changes. th-cam.com/video/ViUbwQcObXo/w-d-xo.html
As someone who was a competitive swimmer back in my teens, our breathing was all chest, and after five years of that cycle of breathing, it was pretty much 'locked in' to my muscle memory. When I attended university I signed up to do yoga, and it was there I was told my breathing was incorrect, and I had to breathe through diaphragm and belly, not through my chest. Moving forward, I took up martial arts, and again, the whole breathing aspect took on yet another level, with a lot of forced exhalation and tensing, coupled with explosive movements. So now, as I approach my 60th year on this earth I do notice slight flaring either side of solar plexus extending laterally. Nothing massive, but noticeable from my own perspective. Ultimately, which way IS the correct way to breathe? If you're a yoga person, it's one way, if you're a martial artist, it's another, if you're a swimmer, yet another, and what if you're a singer, even? Anyway, thought I'd add my own two pennies to this - thank you for the videos, much appreciated. Good luck going forward. Subbed, liked and dinged that bell.
Thanks for watching, subscribing and sharing your experiences. Honestly doesn’t have to be that complicated. Simply put you inhale expanding the entire rib cage and belly 360 degrees and exhale emptying everywhere as well. The lungs are not in the belly so belly breathing should be pretty easy to understand that it is not optimal. The back ribs need to expand as well especially for people who hold tension in the lower back and are very extended (rib flare often also) Basically the belly, back, sides and chest should expand on inhales and compress on exhales. You should definitely check out our program. It’s only 3 x 15 minutes a week and can be done from home. It will break down all the nuance and show you how you actually progress everything www.markowtrainingsystems.com/core-breathing-program/
Hey I’ve had rib flare for a few years and haven’t noticed it but recently since I play a lot of sports, I have noticed my lungs hurting while playing? Is this common and will simple breathing exercises fix this? Thanks.
Impossible to say for sure without assessing you. In general getting the ribcage and pelvis in a better position will improve breathing and athleticism. Best thing to do is the core and breathing program. It’s only 3 x a week 15 minutes www.markowtrainingsystems.com/core-breathing-program/
Yup! The key is the consistency and keeping the changes. Here is the program for that whenever you are ready. www.markowtrainingsystems.com/core-breathing-program/
Yes, they are completely connected with the core in the middle playing a huge role in connecting the lower and upper halves. Check out our blog for more info and some exercises to work on in the bottom half. www.markowtrainingsystems.com/2022/02/07/improve-anterior-pelvic-tilt/

Hi there recently i have developed pulsatile tinnitus and have been deeply worried very anxious. When i lie down i can feel as if my ribs are sticking out like as if my sternum is being pulled out its so weird my abdominals are all tight etc constricting. Could it be the severe anxiety and stress that has done this to me? yes and its rib flare ive never had it in my life its as if the stress etc anxiety has messed up my insides and altered them thats what it feels like. I would like to know your thought if stress and anxiety can cause this problem i guess ive been so worried that ive damaged my own self it feels horrible when i breathe its like as if its going deeper in if that make sense and my ribs are over flaring making it feel weird as hell. Its like when i breathe its sucking i n further than it should where my sternum is etc it feels weird in my midsection. I hope im alright id like to hear from you thankyou and great channel.
Hey Ian, thanks for watching. Our nervous system is Absolutley directly linked to our breathing. I don’t think it matters which is the chicken and egg for you as much as you just take a holistic approach towards improving. I would 100% find someone like a therapist to talk to and figure out strategies to manage your anxiety. Minimizing stress is huge as well so anything you can do to take some stress away from your life is a great idea. Working on your breathing is huge. The best course of action for you is to find a physical therapist to work with one on one. Consider using the postural restoration institute website where you can find a provider. This video is a great start even if you just do the first two breathing exercises every morning. th-cam.com/video/ViUbwQcObXo/w-d-xo.html It sounds like you are using a rectus abdominus strategy which is just a fancy way of saying you are crunching hard on your exhales. In the routine we do an open the airway strategy that will probably work wonders for you. When you exhale relax your six pack and don’t clench your butt at all. Hope this helps
Here are two additional resources I would check out Once you get your breathing in order work on some cardio in zone 2 to see if you can maintain the breathing while moving at a steady pace. www.markowtrainingsystems.com/2022/11/08/zone-2-training-for-beginners/ To learn more about the biomechanics of breathing and see the rectus abdominus strategy discussed check out this blog. Maybe also i have a phobia of the sternum diaphram area when im in that position i dont like it it may sound crazy. Do you think things may go back to what they were naturally? once the anxiety and worries have calmed down. Could the worrying have messed up my structure rib area abdominal and caused internal discomfort? thanks again
I would go with my original suggestions. I have not assessed you and would rather not speculate on all these questions. I’m confident if you follow the things I outlined you will have success.
This os the comment I was looking for, I noticed the low tip of my sternum sticking out and being twisted, as well as a flaring lower arch of the ripcage, as if i am skinny suddenly. Pulsating Tinnitus and weak, strained shoulders and arms with a massive forehead posture. My lower back is killing me, sometimes even having a hard time wiping myself clean. The symptoms began when my father died. I was struggeling a lot.
Would need to assess you to be sure as this isn’t much information but in general when we have a rib flare the ribs above it get less expansion often times leading to them being compressed down and in. Steps would be very similar as described in the video and we are making a part 2 soon

@@IanMarkow is it only temporary
so when inhaling i should aim to expand my rib section instead of my stomach, and try to hold the rib down in place for a second when exhaling ?
Here is the video with the solutions.
th-cam.com/video/ViUbwQcObXo/w-d-xo.html
The ribcage should move on the inhale and exhale. During the inhale you would ideally get 360 degrees of expansion in the belly, side, chest, and back. A poor inhale will looks like a rib flare with arching your back.
To improve it use the solutions video but fully exhaling and pausing then slowly inhaling while maintaining some obliques so they don’t just flare open. You are essentially breathing behind your ab walls instead of completely losing them
Hi!
I got anterior pelvic tilt and one sided rib flare (the left one more than the right), I often get lower back pain if I stand too much, any advice? I’m training abs twice a week
Hey Nick, I would work on these three things for a few weeks and then progress with our Foundation program. I'll link everything below.
Intro To Core: Every morning is ideal
th-cam.com/video/cSruQzCPhOQ/w-d-xo.html
Side planks on the left side: Add three to four sets to workouts. Maybe an extra set or two every day with your left hand down. Keep the entire left hand down pushing through the index and thumb.
th-cam.com/video/kDFqapgIHpU/w-d-xo.html
Sidelying Knee to knee lifts: Add 2-3 times a week for 3/4 sets of 10 reps. Only do the left side down so it's left groin and right glute.

Is it possie to fix ribs flare if I have a pectus excavatum?
You can Absolutley make changes with pectus especially at the lower ribs. It’s important to note that the actual pectus (chest/ sternum) is only going to change visibly a little if at all. What you can do is improve your function and strength so that it doesn’t hold you back in anyway. Start with the part 2 exercises.
th-cam.com/video/ViUbwQcObXo/w-d-xo.html
i have space between both ribs aswell, like they dont connect, is that to do with rib flares?
The back ribs need to expand as well especially for people who hold tension in the lower back and are very extended (rib flare often also)
Basically the belly, back, sides and chest should expand on inhales and compress on exhales.
You should definitely check out our program. It’s only 3 x 15 minutes a week and can be done from home. It will break down all the nuance and show you how you actually progress everything

if my rib flare improves, will that make my pelvic tilt go away too?
Yes, they are completely connected with the core in the middle playing a huge role in connecting the lower and upper halves.
It's important to think about the pelvis as needed to move in all directions versus learning to hold it in one place. You want to be able to anterior tilt.

This video is a great start even if you just do the first two breathing exercises every morning.

It sounds like you are using a rectus abdominus strategy which is just a fancy way of saying you are crunching hard on your exhales. In the routine we do an open the airway strategy that will probably work wonders for you. When you exhale relax your six pack and don’t clench your butt at all.
Hope this helps
Here are two additional resources I would check out
Once you get your breathing in order work on some cardio in zone 2 to see if you can maintain the breathing while moving at a steady pace.

To learn more about the biomechanics of breathing and see the rectus abdominus strategy discussed check out this blog. Sounds like you need to restore the pump handle action of the chest.

@@IanMarkow Hi thankyou for the reply means a lot. I do manage anxiety pretty well cold therapy works great for me etc. I do plenty of exercise and have some really cool hobbies. Ive just had a bout of worry ive never experienced it before i guess i can learn from it. Do you know might what of happened to my insides? could the worrying of caused the rib flaring ive never had in my life when i lie down i breathe in i feel like the midsection is going to come out like a weird sensation like as if my internal organs arent right. Theres no pain theres no other symptoms i feel alright in general. Do you kind of know what i mean? you breathe in your ribs flaring and you feel like your diaphram is going to come out its weird.
Now what if the rib above that flare is pushed inwards? A double flare - one inwards and one outwards?
Would need to assess you to be sure as this isn’t much information but in general when we have a rib flare the ribs above it get less expansion often times leading to them being compressed down and in. Steps would be very similar as described in the video and we are making a part 2 soon

Searching it google thought im dying. I was so worried about my rib cage, couldn’t sleep alot because i kept checking it. My left cage show than my right cage everytime i lay down i can feel it. It makes me depressed and dont know what to do. My breast bone has it also the bone is bigger than my other right breat bone. Its like lump thought it was cancer. Hope you guys can help. Thankyou:(
Hey Kaye, you do not have anything to panic about and certainly not lose sleep over. Obviously you need to see a doctor if you are feeling lump or suspect you have cancer. If you would like to find someone in person use the find a provider linked below.

I am 13. One of my ribs on the left side is very pointy. Is this part of my growth? Is this happening because my organs, bones and muscles are growing?
Impossible to say. Go through the exercises in part two and if it changes you know it’s an easy fix. I wouldn’t worry about it either way.

Can this be caused from scoliosis?
Chicken or egg. You can definitely have scoliosis and flared ribs
Difficulty breathing my chest bone
Super common. Do the program and get really good at the inverted breathing and spinal extension.

More ethically just do surgery
Hmmm, interesting take. Not sure how doing an unnecessary surgery over learning how to breathe better and training your core is more ethical? Would love to hear more, can you explain please?
