If you wish to retire within South East Asia region, Malaysia is the best option because of the low cost of living. Plus, you can always vacation to Thailand, Indonesia, Vietnam, Cambodia or Singapore as these countries are all within just a 2hours flight (max) from KL. So, you get best of all worlds. Yes, we definitely have a fondness for Malaysia, we actually were there for half a month just recently, exploring different cities and we have strengthened our opinion of the country! I actually made my first travel vlog for this country, please watch them if interested, if not, all good, no worries. To each of their own opinions. But, thank you for telling me about Boreno, I never considered it as being a destination but after you have shared your experiences there, I have turned my head. Yes, please understand that it's hard for me to understand the life of a villager, coming from a larger city myself, but while I was in Malaysia, I saw certain areas where people had less than the average North American, but they seemed really happy with what they had. We are hoping to retire perhaps in Malaysia in the future but are still exploring other options, it is definitely among the top five for us for sure! Great video. How do you get to Langkawi and Penang resorts from KL? I am from the US. I am planning to travel either directly to KL or Singapore. I love those water bungalows. If you could recommend some of the best resorts in Malaysia that would be great. Hope they are easy to get to from the US or KL. I also plan on visiting Singapore again. I was there last year. This is a beautiful and super clean small island nation. Thank you
@Brent Jay. You could check out my vlog on how to get from KL to Penang, link below. We actually ended up taking the bus, took 5hrs, but a popular way would be by train but you need to reserve online1-2 weeks prior to. We tried by just going to KL Sentral to reserve our train directly, it was unfortunately a no go, no choice but the bus, at that time. You could also take Air Asia as well, if you book beforehand it's cheaper. As for Langkawi, you could take Air Asia or just take a ferry from Penang to Langkawi. I'm not too sure about the resorts but we did well with choosing some great places just by using AirBNB. Anyway, check out my Malaysia vlog traveling from KL to Penang. If you want even further specifics, read the comment section of the vlog I provided below as well, you'll find comments from native Malaysians on how to get to KL to Penang with better solutions than what we traveled by. Nothing wrong with the good old bus though... th-cam.com/video/btEowf2GGkI/w-d-xo.html
there is an airplane to most of the states in Malaysia. You can check National Careers such as MAS airlines and some of the low-cost airlines such as Maswings, Air Asia, Malindo Air, Firefly. If you are willing to travel by bus, train + ferry, you may see a lot of scenes too. Water Bungalow is in Sabah, Borneo. quite far to the east but again you can take a plane to Sabah State.
@Indomart .blog. My vlog, I believe, does go into detail for all of the benefits you would be getting for the program. Check out point number 8, retirement requirements.
Not bad. The emphasis on food in the beginning almost made me turn you off. I thought it was a food review show for a second. I fast forwarded and glad that I did. because what followed was good. Actually going through the rules was good but a bit fast. I was very curious about medical since the title said "retirement" but saw very very little on that. SHould expand much more on medicine prices, emergency procedures, operations, health insurance etc. You could alternatively change the title to vacationing long term in Maylasia. Good presentation skills and vocal projection. Thank you
Hey, public healthcare is available to everyone including expats, foreigners and tourists. Even for illegals..Registration for malaysian is Rm1 but for non malaysian is rm15. This is due to the subsidy which is fair for non malaysian to pay higher for public healthcare. Correction: non malaysian and non pr holders have the same freedom as malaysian, the correct one is you don't have the same rights! No right to vote as example. You have the freedom to religion, to speech, sexual preferences etc
@Zayda Zay. Thank you for your valuable information on public healthcare. There seems to be quite a difference between the registration fees between the malaysians and non-malaysians. Also to mention, I believe Malaysia just recently was rewarded as having the best medical practices/technologies in South-east Asia.
good summary, but 400 Dollars/ month for eating at home?! Really? That seems very expensive to me! I live in Berlin, Germany, and only pay about 150 Dollars/months on groceries.
The $400 is actually a mixture of eating out and at home as a couple. The portions are smaller than the average North American standard and you may even end up having another meal a day, adding to the expense.
For most Americans & Canadians, Mexico is the nearest and best place to RETIRE & be close to your children & grandchildren. Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, Phillipines etc are all way too far! If you don't have children, then maybe one of the Emerging Tigers, where English is spoken by many people, will be appealing.
@Mohamed Habib Yes, you do have a point of distance and being close to family. Using a messenger app may be a temporary solution for this. Mexico could also be seen as overcrowded with expats as well, bringing up the cost of living overall.
I am kinda worried to send Brokerage account numbers to show 10,000/month to a third party MM2H program application.... isnt that a security risk... are people not scared to share sensitive info like this?
I'm 78y/o and still quite fit, I do have the funds to get an MM2h visa but unlikely to spend the Aus $4400 monthly pension required as a single older man to get one. I don't spend that much in Australia and live quite comfortably. I don't like to put money in a bank other than an Australian bank. Maybe Aus $1200 p/m studio apartment rent and food, I can cook but do like to eat out often. Not a big drinker but I know that a bottle of Thai Samsung Rum costs about Aus $12 in Thailand, Aus$38 in Australia and more in Malaysia perhaps Aus $45 (outrageous). Of all the comments on these pages, they seem to avoid alcohol cost discussions...like I say I'm not a big drinker, yes as a retiree maybe 2/3/4 drinks a day but not always. My doctor says that's OK, good for me, 5/6 drinks not so good? What else can I spend my comfortable pension on? I know about food and rent and I'm a bit old to chase the ladies (but I'll have a go). To spend my leftover Aus $3000 per month I need about 3 girlfriends? or maybe more?... any answers?
Is there a limit on how much u need to spend to buy a condo as a foreigner... I want to buy a condo for 500.000 MYR but I heard that u need to invest at least 1 million...
You can get a decent condo at 500K depends on location, but it won't be that easy unless you settle down in Malaysia first. The best area would be klang valley
Requirement for foreigners to purchase property in Malaysia varies from states. In the state of Selangor for example, minimum price is MYR2million while in Kuala Lumpur(Federal Territory)used to be MYR1million but has since been reduced to MYR600k.
Ronin, what is average cost of living now for 2s, that you’ve expensed so far per day ( foods including groceries) without rent airbnb. Thanks. costs so far versus the numbers in numbeo... Maybe you do a video on your 1 month experience expenses for 2s.
@N Tran. We wrote down everything in a notebook but there were so many items and it was a mix of paying by cash and credit card. Was meaning to do a cost breakdown but saw how many items there were and got a bit lazy. Might put them all into a spreadsheet, another problem was that we might have written down the names of the items incorrectly but I could lump all the items under one category, like food etc. I'd like to attempt to be exact but it might end up to be messy. But, I could tell you, it was super, super affordable, even after eating out! We even had a lot of RM left over, which we are planning to use up, when we are back. Numbeo, I could say with certainty, is really, really surprisingly accurate! Contributions on average of over 5000 people.
Hi can you please tell me about capital gains in Malaysia for foreigners living there or having Malaysian residency. Ive heard capital gains are all tax free?
Matthew, Capital gains are not taxed in Malaysia, except for gains derived from the disposal of real property or on the sale of shares in a real property company. If you"re not a Malaysian citizen, the rate is 30% if you're selling the property within 5 yrs, or 5% if you've owned it for longer than that.
@Tim Dobertson. Wanted to keep my vlog relatively short, people get bored if it's too long, but you have a great point! Should have included Johor for sure, a developing area and a great place to live!
Both are the same tbh, but Malaysian are more fluent in English, better transportation and better healthcare. Otherwise, both countries are similar to each other.
Some local languages are unfortunately very difficult (almost impossible to master) to learn, like Vietnamese and Thai for example. However, I would always make the effort and also expect everyone who migrates to do so. When choosing a country it is a very important point to me if I can already communicate with the people there or at least have a fair chance of getting to a B 2 level within a reasonable amount of time. I learnt 6 foreign languages, among them Bahasa Indonesia which is supposed to be very similar to Bahasa Malaysia, so this is a pro for sure. I would not dare to tackle Cambodian for example.
Unless the language is widespread like Spanish or Chinese, I would not make such daunting mental investment in a limited language. Not that I wouldn't learn 25-50 words or so.
@@robertmcbrain of course fat = lemak (Malay) if direct translation. A nice promotion video. I recommend to come here and have a look by your own. The three cities he mentioned first, are the only acceptable places for European middle-class people. Most of the country is still third world style, especially the housing. And why is such a tremendous part of the population sooo fat? Food paradise? Yes, carbohydrates , chocolate and the like. And for those, who like scarecrows - come here, a lot of women are dressed like that. Petrodollars have washed in a certain welth to KL and some of the different sultanates, but with it ,corruption grew obviously. Ok, the visa regulations are the most comfortable in south-east Asia, but come and have a look first - I would say, that you get a better value for money in countries like Greece, Spain or Portugal, even though, they have disadvantages of their own.
Yes, Paul is absolutely right! You should visit the country first! If you would like a glimpse, check out my Malaysia vlogs below, of our visit there. Women dressed up like scarecrows? This kind of comment is so unnecessary and best kept to yourself, for it will only make you look like an idiot. As of any other countries, Malaysia is no different whereby its people(women included) are free to dress the way they like, be it due to religious or cultural influenced.
I believe the corruption is very high (recall that the former PM Najib & his Family is found guilty on that infamous 1MDB Scandal) and there is political turmoil. IF an Expat is NOT a political person writing or talking about politics or corruption, then Penang Georgetown/Butterworth could be better than the noisy crowded KL. IF you want to express your opinion on the General Local/Regional Politics or Culture, the locals would frown upon you. They are mostly interested in getting your $$$, but want to curtail your Freedom of Speech/Writing/Tweeting, so beware!

Pierre Chang, you're so misinformed. The notion that as a gay in Malaysia one will get prosecuted is untrue, let alone being punished by stoning to death. Though not widely publicized, Malaysian gay communities live and work freely amongst other communities. Gay clubs and gay bars coexist with other clubs and bars from as early as early eighties. As of in many other countries, gay sex and gay relationship is best kept in the confines of one's private home.

If interested in our trip to Malaysia, if not, no pressure:

@Danniel Haikai. Yeah, a bit of an overload. There was a lot more than this actually, so much to talk about for Malaysia!

How good/fast is internet service in Malaysia? Thanks love your channel!
It's actually great! We stayed in a section of Malaysia called Cyberjaya as well, super fast internet speeds. Was uploading my youtube vlogs quick. Thanks for watching my channel!
I give you one reason to forget about Malaysia. When the pandemic started, the bank removed my access to my funds and I can't go to Malaysia.
Are you sure its 30 days visa?
Last I checked, it was 90 days visa for social visits.
@RUHappyATM, We just recently visited there and it was 90Days for the visitor visa, not sure where 30days came from. Check out our Malaysia series if interested. Malaysia Vlogs - th-cam.com/play/PLnEvPLDQaOFVUxekZ6O1RepJQHO_sQOpa.html
RUHappyATM most of southeast asean countries are given 30days visa travel during immigration checkpoint when entering malaysia to avoid some of them working illegally in malaysia.
It varies and upon every entry you need to check. Any westerner thinking they can abuse that should think again.
@byteme9718. Thank you for sharing. Do you believe the westerner is abusing the system. Do you have examples to share with the community? Would appreciate your side of the story!
@@roninblue5885 Many do and simply exit and re-enter, a task made easier by corrupt immigration officers. The abuse works both ways.
Lately Malaysia looks like a better choice compared to Thailand or Indonesia!
Aside from the ability of buying a real property, what are the benefits applying for Malaysia as a Second Home program?
@Indomart .blog. My vlog, I believe, does go into detail for all of the benefits you would be getting for the program. Check out point number 8, retirement requirements.
Could I get part-time work in Malaysia as a 30 year-old person under the MM2H (Malaysian My Second Home Program)?
Bravo!~~~ 🙏👍👍👍👍
am planning for the mm2h visa in 3 years :-)
@ Ariel Gerard Servillon. Sounds like a great plan!

Very few from Europe...u.s. retire in my town
@franciska leong k.h. Might change one day!
HiHi i'm above 50 & i want to comming & living to malaysia with smm2h prog. Please guide and help me from the first until the end. Thanks..
Public healthcare is available to foreigners, but it’s at a higher rate(lower than private providers).
No mention of Johor as a place to live and its convenience to Singapore
@Tim Dobertson. Wanted to keep my vlog relatively short, people get bored if it's too long, but you have a great point! Should have included Johor for sure, a developing area and a great place to live!
Johor is too overcrowded for me, I'm Johorean. I would prefer Selangor.
Can you please advise me which is the best country to settle in Asia for living and business among Thailand and Malaysia ?
Both are the same tbh, but Malaysian are more fluent in English, better transportation and better healthcare. Otherwise, both countries are similar to each other.
I would say liquor in Msia is more expensive than Thailand.
"unlike in other countries where you might feel isolated because of the language barrier". Well, why don't people try to learn the local language(s)?
God bless
nasi lemak is coconut rice... not fatty rice 😂
lemak = fat in Malay
Creamy rice tho
@@robertmcbrain direct translation isn't correct ha3 very funny
Shahruddin Shukor what does lemak mean?
@@robertmcbrain of course fat = lemak (Malay) if direct translation. But, nasi lemak is a special name for a complete set dish - nasi (cooked with coconut milk), sambal, ikan bilis (anchovies), timun (cucumber) etc. Another example - 'teh tarik' x = pull tea, Nasi dagang x = commerce rice. Even google translate nasi lemak = nasi lemak (English)

The three cities he mentioned first, are the only acceptable places for European middle-class people.
Most of the country is still third world style, especially the housing.
And why is such a tremendous part of the population sooo fat? Food paradise? Yes, carbohydrates , chocolate and the like.

Women dressed up like scarecrows? This kind of comment is so unnecessary and best kept to yourself, for it will only make you look like an idiot. As of any other countries, Malaysia is no different whereby its people(women included) are free to dress the way they like, be it due to religious or cultural influenced.
Cabbage in Hokkien Mee, really????
Penang hokien mee with kl one is different
I believe the corruption is very high (recall that the former PM Najib & his Family is found guilty on that infamous 1MDB Scandal) and there is political turmoil. IF an Expat is NOT a political person writing or talking about politics or corruption, then Penang Georgetown/Butterworth could be better than the noisy crowded KL. IF you want to express your opinion on the General Local/Regional Politics or Culture, the locals would frown upon you. They are mostly interested in getting your $$$, but want to curtail your Freedom of Speech/Writing/Tweeting, so beware!

@byteme9718 same can be said about your observations, full of negativity and bitterness.
Malaysia has syariah Courts, homosexuality is illegal and the authorities can impose punishment such as caning... sounds like a barbaric country!
Lol..spore is not muslin country....but do spore legalize homosexual??
Pierre they need a bit of caning in uk then perhaps the youths wouldn't be running riot with no manners, stabbing people. This don't happen much in se Asia.
