Hey guys, I’m Rabea. I'm the lead guitarist in Toska, Frog Leap & Dorje where I write music, make songs and have a great time with my mates. Honestly, I was pretty underwhelmed. Just not my type of tones I guess.
Good if you like that kind of sound, good for Industrial and FIlter type bass lines, and of course modern metal which I'm not a big fan of. Played around with it a lot, ultimately not worth the money IMHO.
@@dimsoneill Since it's been a year now, I'll say that the distortion characteristic of the plugin is pretty fixed. It's got a *type* of distortion that it does very very well and doesn't drift very far from that sound. I hear it's the same with the Dark Glass pedal version of the plugin. That's why I blend it in parallel along side an unprocessed bass, usually for this "modern metal" bass sound.
@@KeenenBlockson Yeah that would work well to give it a bit more roundness and warmness. It was just too much of a one-trick pony on its own. I only trailed it 4 weeks ago.

So what did your toolchain look like before? That's exactly the sound I'm searching - but my computer is in another room (for recording) and I wann ahave this sound live. Either on a simple Ampero (which ought not to be able for this sound...maybe Ampero II Stomp would be able to do this) or on my Fractal FM3. So any hint welcome ;)
Oh boy Neural is killing it with every plugin. I'm gonna miss my three-channel-ten-plugin-chain.

It's insane how little work it takes to make amazing sounds with this plugin. Right out the box it's just fantastic, and any tweaks are just to make it more fantastic, instead of taking it from bleh to fantastic.
14:38...that visual transition matches the burst on the Bass. A subtle but lovely touch to the editing.

That sounds absolutely filthy! I digged the review a lot, but the only thing I missed was a plugin bypass A/B comparison, so that I could have a better notion of how much personality the plugin prints upon the bass's natural tone. I might buy this anytime soon, anyway. The new studio looks AWESOME btw, can't wait for a studio tour vid. Cheers from Brazil!

Holy Shiiiittt!!! I was sold within the first 45 seconds cause that riff was fucking dope! And wow what a nasty tone!!! Just the kinda sound I've been looking for.
For the future in the introsongs when demoing i think it could be nice to add like a couple seconds where you disable the other tracks and reenable them. Just so we get the individual sound vs in context. That way you can add guitars to the bass reviews too since without guitars it sounds a bit bland. I get the point, just making a suggestion. Love your content regardless :D

It's great for exactly that, and nothing else. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE it, but since the title said "The only bass plugin you need" I felt I had to chime in. There is no way to get a decent non-distorted tone with this. For anyone who'd think this is a silver bullet, it's no. It's a wonderful sniper rifle.

This is EXACTLY what I've been waiting for. I'm sure I speak for a lot of people when I say thank you. We've been long over due for a bass plugin that can handle heavy music for a few years now. PS I LOVE your hair.

Love how easy it is to great dirty bass tones. I can get similar tones out of the Helix but it is way more time consuming blending amps and di signals and messing with compressors, saturators, etc.
Intro looks like Bea has had both lower legs amputated. Some equipment costs an arm and a leg - but Bea gets his priorities right...keep the arms with their magical phalanges. Thanks for sending the double Grinding Gears CD. Have it on download as well. Amazing material!

The parallax makes getting a crushing tone so easy
Bought it the day it came out. I tested out the demo for 30 minutes and bought it right after. It definitely reduced the plugins I use and duplication to just down to 3-4 plugins such as using Parallax itself, EQ for high and low filters, saturation, and limiter if necessary.
Been waiting for this since the release!! Can't wait to hear the dirty tones!
Thanks for the great review, Rabea! Being a guitar player I find it hard to dial in great heavy bass tones for my solo stuff. This plugin will ease my future recordings and improve my bass sound a lot :)

Nice demo! Neural DSP is doing an amazing job! The variety of tones you can get from the Parallax is incredible! Massive, crushing, searing- even clean tones! Parallax has it covered!

Neural really needs to make this entire plugin available on the Q.C.! After I invested in the Q.C., I feel I deserve that option. Perhaps you can pass that along. P.S. fully grow the beard!
Some of my bass friends don’t like the parallax and use the DG. I however like the parallax more than the DG, but both are good. I’m getting a good clanky ish tone out of it that I’ve been wanting. Haven’t dialed it in perfectly but I have the trial. I’ll probably buy the full version and keep working at it

I bought the Plini plugin and its the best 100 quid ive ever spent to do with tone.
My go to bass amp sim, I also like the Mammoth amp sim.
The key with this plug in is to use other IRs, the ones supplied are a bit confusing in that they don’t sound like bass IRs. Using a Redwires 8x10 Ampeg IR delivered a more round and workable tone, just slam with an L1 and bass tone done!

I know in the broad aspect of things this is a really miniscule detail but I've always thought you looked good with your plugs in... you should totally wear them more! Also the plugin sounds filthy! keep up the good work!

I find these quite resource heavy if you use a few of the DSP plugins in the DAW to be honest, compared to others.
Could you maybe make a video on recording guitar while also filming yourself? I just did it for the first time for the young guitarist of the year contest you’re judging and it was pretty difficult. Love your videos and your work btw, you’re one of my favorite guitarists!
Great demo and great tone at the start but sadly that's the tone everyone I see seems to go for. It's really nice, but for me, everyone with a Dingwall and Darkglass gear goes for exactly this tone. Maybe I'm wrong.

Sounds great, doesn't seem too different from FabFilter's "Saturn" plugin though so will probably stick with that for now (along with just using an Axe FX II for both a wet and dry signal).
Agree. Sounds a lot like "power amp" setting on saturn.

Appreciated! But I have yet to see a good youtube video on getting nice round rock tones out of Parallax; Ampeg 15 stuff, Motown funk, meat and potatoes bass with NO metal shreds in it.

Hello Rabea ! Great plugin ! I noticed you were playing with 3 tracks simoultaneosly in your DAW ... Does that bosst even more the signal ? or what is the porpose ?
Great review and great playing as always Bea, but I must say I really dislike the kind of bass tones like the ones in this video. It always sounds too cold and lacks the “girth” and warmth that I feel bass tones should have.
I’m not a big fan of this tone, solo or in a band context. The tone sounds tinny and thin and in a band, the bass mostly disappears and you can only hear the snarl. It’s very different from the tones Dave uses, which are always thick and ball-sy. No offence, but I’m happy that he’s in charge of his bass tone in Toska and Dorje.
But not to just be a negative Nancy, it’s all opinions in the end. Cheers!
That’s fair enough man. In my studio the room was filled with bass, but I guess that didn’t come across as well.
I’m glad Dave is in charge of his bass tone. I mean, he is a bass player so I’d hope so! I think what you are describing is the difference between trying to dial it in live and then take it to a studio, rather than a plugin. I do think that makes a huge difference. If I were dialling in tones live, like I was with Dave on the last Toska record, i think it would achieve more of what you’re talking about

The ribbons aren't royer, only one of them is. The 160 is a beyerdynamic. The condenser is a Neumann.
