    I have a little fact about Medusa tattoos that I would like to share, many women and men get Medusa tattoos as a symbol that they are a survivor of r@pe, this is mainly because one story of how Medusa came to be is that Poseidon r@ped her and she was a worshipper of Athena who is a goddess of purity and her worshippers have to take a vow of celibacy, now there are two different versions of what happens next one is that Athena turned Medusa into what she is so she could protect herself from any more men that try to hurt her, and the other version is that Athena didn't believe that she was forced against her will and believed she broke her vow and made her into the monster she is as punishment. That is why many women get Medusa tattoos.
    Edit: didn't think to add men to the category so I edited and made sure to add it because their trauma of r@pe is just as valid as the women that have gone through it.

      I knew the part of her being a symbol for survivors but the rest is new to me. I was already planning on getting a Medusa tattoo but this makes me want to get it immediately.

    • @thewiseturtle
      @thewiseturtle ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Neither of those stories is healthy for anyone to want to represent, though. I mean, becoming a murderer is obviously not good, whether it's as a "compensation" for something bad that happened, or as a punishment for when someone else thinks you lied. I mean, honestly, I hope folks who are dealing with trauma find healthy ways to represent themselves and their stories, rather than something like this.

    • @heycanitellyousomething
      @heycanitellyousomething ปีที่แล้ว +28

      @@thewiseturtle yeah, many people see Medusa as evil but many times, such as Hades, they're mostly misunderstood. Usually the men or people that Medusa turns to stone are people hunting her or just have dark intentions, I mean what normal person goes looking for a woman who turns people to stone unless they're trying to use her power for themselves? But I digress this is also a mythical being we're talking about. There are many different stories that have different versions of myths, I mean in many stories she wasn't a human, some stories say that either Hera or Aphrodite was jealous of how beautiful Medusa was and then turned her into a monster so no man could love her. But I understand where you're coming from and I get what you're saying.

    • @heycanitellyousomething
      @heycanitellyousomething ปีที่แล้ว +8

      @@Sapphire3759 yeah I'm very into Greek mythology and do a lot of studying on the different myths and the different versions of them. Also being a survivor myself I want to get one too.

    • @Sapphire3759
      @Sapphire3759 ปีที่แล้ว +15

      @@thewiseturtle let me start off with you can have your opinions and we cand agree to disagree.
      That's fine. But please consider this before judging a survivor on their coping mechanisms.
      1. A lot of survivor see Medusa as strong, powerful and someone who wasn't afraid to fight back.
      2. Geting a tattoo that reminds the survivor they too can be strong and take back their power is a lot healthier than other coping mechanisms. As a survivor i can vouch for all the unhealthy coping mechanism that are so easy to fall into. So choosing to do something healthier takes a lot of willpower and persistence.
      Even if you disagree with the "meaning" (every tattoo has a different meaning), one tattoo is a healthier alternative to other less healthy coping mechanism.

    I’d like to point out that picky clients exist and it’s usually artists that are picky so half of these are the clients saying don’t alter a single detail and then getting mad and taking it out on the tattoo artist because they realized their own artwork is shmut. The tattoo artist literally shows you what they’re going to put on your body, there’s no way in heck anyone can say anything bad when they’re the ones approving the sketch.

      @@plastiqueneurosis It was more the shit uncoloured dna strand underneath that wasn’t centred and didn’t blend well with the eye of horus tattoo imo. Still, the horus tattoo had flaws. Chiefly being one piece of the design being disconnected where it shouldn’t. I’ll give the, the benefit of the doubt and day it was part of the style but if they’d just slightly angled the line coming down from the eye differently it would have been more readable and less like a floating triangle.
      Most of these had shoddy line work or shading. It wasn’t necessarily about the design.

      It can be either, or both, the tattoist and/or the client. My worst tattoo happened because I had thin lineart someone drew for me, and I pushed the tattoist to do it when he didn't want to (because I thought it was a simple tattoo to do), and then he used a pretty thick needle, so it just looks all blobby now. So it was both of us who were responsible. He should have been firm that he didn't want to do it if he didn't want to do it. And he absolutely shouldn't have used a thick liner (the stencil looked ok as far as I was concerned). And I should have found someone else when he said he didn't want to do it.

    Some of these people should really practice tattooing fruits or just picking up a pen and a piece of paper before they start inking this stuff permanently into people’s skin. If it’s the client who is giving them reference pictures that look like this, the client should probably take a double take on the reference picture make sure everything’s looking right before you ask the tattoo artist to tattoo hands on you that look like a twisted pretzel.😂

    If I recall correctly, I think the "practice canvas" tattoo artists generally use is a slab of pork (although the guy I heard talking about that a long time ago decided to skip that and used his own thigh.) I'm guessing most don't go back to using that after being hired professionally, depending on the person.

    I have a diploma and 7+ years of experience in art, and yet even this wasn’t really helpful for my tattoo artist career. Tattooing requires A LOT of practice and a lot of other skills, and these artists have probably practiced before they started to do tattoos or real people.

  • @LugiDergX
    @LugiDergX ปีที่แล้ว

    Being honest? Many of those tattoos are actually quite beautiful, even if a bit deformed, which, even if costly to first remove part of the tattoo, can be corrected. I do agree with some looking plain bad, having the aforementioned deformities, not looking like someone skilled did them or some other stuff but you can't deny, the effort was put in and I am sure many people are happy with what they got. For example: I agree with the rainbow paints giraffee one - It does look quite horribly deformed but at the same time, the quality overall (linework on actual skin mind you, not a piece of paper or digital paper that's so much easier to draw on) is really amazing. The giraffee could be done looking normally but I just can't deny I like the tattoo even for as horrifying it can look.
