I am a musician. That kind of face happens when your full attention is on making the music. The facial expression is from the tension you have to maintain to do it. It is not planned or on purpose, just happens when you are performing a hard or intense song. If you try to control it, the song suffers.
Happened to me, my new girl friend used to spend hours just tuning her guitar, I didn't think she could actually play. Then one time friends came cover, and she pulled out her guitar, and I thought "maybe they don't want to hear to you tune". Then bam, she played about thirty songs, and we all sang.
Good performance is an understatement. The guitar was super tight and clean, but the singing just makes it such a funky package. Lots of of love from the Netherlands almost 10 years later!
People are joking about his faces but honestly that's the most beautiful part, when the musician feels the music so much his facial muscles dance along
perfectdrug6 Reynolds man, that’s not easy at all, mark knopfler plays only with his fingers, all the riffs are differents, and this is not a 2 minutes sound
When it comes to "covers" some guitar players mostly try to be a "mirror" of the original one when in fact the real thing is, as in a play, understand the spirit of the tune and bring up what's in our hearts and in your case, I believe you did it.
A lot of people say that, but I personally just like the orginal one and I find it even more impressiv when guitarists master a song so that it sounds exacly like orginal one.
This is actually a very big deal-a special talent. Many people can play and sing notes and words. It is quite another thing to sing the song. What is so astounding is that Josh transfers this gift to everyone who sings and plays with him-everyone. It is an astounding, profound gift.
the amount of talent you have means that you just need less practice to do it better. until you give me some proof that usain bolt's muscles are mutated to be better than anyone else's, I'll keep claiming that if I work stupidly hard for it A LOT, I could be as fast or even faster than him. Asians aren't genetically better in math than anyone else, they just work more, that's why they're so good.

Get your head around this: he put this video out when he was 20. He has had eight more years to practice. Go to his channel and just click on anything.
This song is ridiculously difficult to play on guitar. There's playing it and then there's PLAYING it. This guy got as close as any attempt I have seen. That's how difficult and subtle the song is.
Seems to me like he DOES have a backup track though. (Listen particularly carefully.......and WATCH his fingers.....at around the 5 minute-and-beyond point, for example......there's more sound than his fingers on the upper reaches of the fingerboard can be creating. i.e. there's rhythm......and yet he's playing lead. :-)
Every now and then, I come back to this gem. Years ago, TH-cam suggested me this video, and since then, I've fallen in love with 2 things: dire straits and fender telecaster. I can't play any instrument, but I have a strong desire to own a telecaster... I'm probably never gonna have the money to buy one since I come from a poor country, but hey, a man can have his dreams 😅
Awesome cover, it's really obvious that you can play at a really high level on the guitar because you rarely look like you're concentrating and you have a really nice relaxed style of playing. Of course there are plenty of people who could probably play what you have done in the video but I doubt most could play the track with so much ease and soul.
An excellent rendition. One of my favorites. Usually, if someone doesn't nail something, I move on. I stayed, thoroughly enjoyed it & took the time to add this note. You captured the soul of Knopfler & his song. Dude, stay with it. You'll be a legend one day.

He is so amazingly relaxed. Song just flows from him
No this is Dire Straits not Sublime
@@thegreatskinkpriest8104 Aye.
Brilliant, I haven’t played the guitar in 17 years since the night my father died, I’m going to pick it up again now. 🙏
I think your dad likes that !
Check out guitar mark, hasn’t played in 17 years, but he knows all the chords.
@@broskiez2641 great response, thank you, made me smile. 😀
@@markclayton626 glad you found it funny 😁 have a good day, keep on playing!
I'm happy for you mate, i hope that you enjoy playing again( ◜‿◝ )♡
Mark Knopfler would totally approve of this! Excellent
Holy damn. You did the solo the hard way it was intended. Massive props
Yote i love your profile picture
cant believe this is 12 years old. haven’t seen this in forever and i’m glad it blessed my feed
A legendary TH-cam cover for many reasons
which is why it's now up to 13.7 million views.
why is nobody talking about this absolute gorgeous telecaster
Because none of us can make that gorgeous telecaster sound like that and because our jaws are all on the floor.
i have an Gibson ES-135 Cherry, but i cant play it for shit, doesnt mean i wont try, it sounds sexy as fuck lol
And it's a MIM, proof you don't need American Fenders.
It’s the wizard not the wand
Because we're all too mesmerised by the performance.
i swear this thing cures depressions
Marloes N spot on lol I had a breakup recently and this video just makes me forget about it
Marloes N unless your me and then you realise how shot you are at guitar
that's been 12 years of me coming to watch this video regularly
i've listen to your cover over 10 times in the last couple days...and counting...its a great cover, mate
+wackyfours SAME! And I discovered it like a year ago, but I've had it on loop this week!
Not the easiest of pieces to play, and you owned that mother. Excellent playing.
A piece doesn't have any lyrics, I think this is a song. And I think this is his own arrangement. I'm not totally sure tho...
ThomasTrue And that Father?
Damn son, what a voice! So smooth my man...
Joseph Wayne ^agreed
I've been listening to this for nearly ten years now. It's total joy. You're an island of sanity in a sea of chaos, Josh. Thank you.
Almost a Jason Mraz quote there 😁
That boy can play the guitar just like ringing a bell.
Go Joshie go go go!
Joshie be good
Chuck Berry would be proud
This guy’s facial expressions are GOLD.
1:58 when you're washing the dishes and you touch something icky
claes fjellstrom lmao
Haha
😂
So finny i forgot to laugh
The sound effect makes it even better lol
People that don't play any instruments have literally 0 idea how hard this is not only to play, but also to sing perfectly. What. The. Hell. Amazing absolutely 100% amazing job, wish I could see this live!
Get your head around this: he put this video out when he was 20. He has had eight more years to practice. Go to his channel and just click on anything.
This is the best cover I've seen in my entire life. It's perfect, it's gorgeous, it's
This song is ridiculously difficult to play on guitar. There's playing it and then there's PLAYING it. This guy got as close as any attempt I have seen. That's how difficult and subtle the song is.
And with no backing track to cover up anything.. You wouldn't expect to hear this on solo guitar.. but boom.. there it is.
I see what you did there. Boom.. like that.
Michael Scott He's playing over himself.
tal camisa has the best cover
Every now and then, I come back to this gem. Years ago, TH-cam suggested me this video, and since then, I've fallen in love with 2 things: dire straits and fender telecaster. I can't play any instrument, but I have a strong desire to own a telecaster... I'm probably never gonna have the money to buy one since I come from a poor country, but hey, a man can have his dreams 😅
It’s like I go on months hiatus then TH-cam knows the perfect timing to put this video back in my life.
Just commenting to remind you this video exists if you forgot about it :)
Yer a guitarist Harry!
+bloodnokian underrated comment
+bloodnokian you deserve a cookie for that comment
exactly what I was thinking XD
I don't think he'll mind it if he doesn't make the scene.

4:29 The explosive energy on the chorus here always gives me the chills!
0:44 "but you don't see to many faces"
I'm gonna have to disagree
Fabio he sings that you don’t see too to many faces but ironically he makes a lot of guitar faces
Well... Now that were stuck inside I doubt any of us see too many faces
Loool i laughed
Justin K you made me much smile
kid got some crazy skills
Seza Guzeloz he is like 20 here
@@T4TipsGuides that's a little bit exaggerated
@@blewyd no it really isnt mastering a song is extremely hard especially singing while you play the instrument
@@meguok1905 I don't then think he loved for 10,000 hours
Awesome cover, it's really obvious that you can play at a really high level on the guitar because you rarely look like you're concentrating and you have a really nice relaxed style of playing. Of course there are plenty of people who could probably play what you have done in the video but I doubt most could play the track with so much ease and soul.
An excellent rendition. One of my favorites. Usually, if someone doesn't nail something, I move on. I stayed, thoroughly enjoyed it & took the time to add this note. You captured the soul of Knopfler & his song. Dude, stay with it. You'll be a legend one day.
I mean he kinda already is… this was a decade ago.. Josh has tons of amazing covers on TH-cam
I'm just pressing all the timestamps I see 😂😂😂
You have no chance to get to any bad part of the cover.
WTF I NEVER KNEW THAT 🤣🤣🤣 For so many years, I was just skipping to where it was. God I feel so stupid.

how the heck can anyone give a thumbs down? Josh's vocal range and instrument playing are just over the top. Love it.
My guy I watch alot of people play the guitar and I dont think alot of people realize how good you are because you make it look like you just playing
