In fact, his close friends called him "Guitar George" and he loved this song more than anything. It was the first time I got to connect to my Grandpa as he and I were both Dire Straits fans. Then I shared this song with him, and he wrote me with enthusiasm. Little did I know that Mary and Leo's Sultan's of Swing would be the last song he'd ever hear again. Shortly after hearing this song he sadly passed away but not before he let me know that this was one of his favorite musical experiences ever. Thanks Mary and Leo.
I am 55. When I first heard this song, I was 14. It was on the radio in the car, when my father picked me up from school late in the afternoon, and I was so mesmerized that I asked him to sit and wait, when we were already home, because the song was still going on. So, you can imagine, what Sultans of Swing meant and still means to me. Unfortunatley, it also made me quit playing the guitar for a while, because somebody had already created what I had always had in my mind somewhere and which was just perfect. All that being said, I love, absolutely LOVE your version of this song. It is so unique, such a fresh take and still full of respect for the original, and also done with great singing and great playing. Very, very well done.

I have to agree! I do not like covers (remakes) unless it is as good or better than the original. Guns and Roses did a great job with "Live and Let Die" (and I am a huge Beatles fan). They also hit it outta the park with Bob Dylans "Knockin On Heaven's Door". Now Metallica, who I love, did NOT do Bob Seager's "Turn The Page" any justice. Mark Knopfler AND Leo, with Mary’s beautiful vocals - this is a definite win
This really is a great version. I can't stop watching this video. As great as Leo is, it seems that adding Mary Spender to anything just makes it even better.
Yes, I am replying to myself, cause i am back again, for more and more. I absolutely love this version.
Can’t believe it’s been three years since I first heard this one. It’s still fresh as fuck.
Yeah.. ..
my last fuck was 3 years ago. Feels very fresh 😉😄😛🎸
Yup. Time flies, that’s for sure. Seems like it gets worse the older you get as well. Nowadays it seems just like it’s bloody Christmas once a week.
Great. Now make more. Don't ucking stop 👌💪
This song was how I discovered Leo. I like almost everything he does but I still believe this is his best song. It's hard to believe it has been three years since he put this out.
@@Principaledpragmatist that feeling when you discover a new great artist. Priceless!
Still my favourite version.
One of his best in my opinion, Mary does an awesome job too. But when it comes to the actual song itself, nothing approaches Mark and the gang in the Alchemy Live performance.
@@devilsadvocate2548 Was at one of their gigs with (would you believe it) my mum. Must have been 1983, can't remember what it was called, started with a thunderstorm and lightning. Magical.
I’m @ great Knopfler fan and this has to be the best cover I’ve heard. Thanks Mary and Leo. Fantastic version.
Considering this is easily my favorite track of all of them. It worked so well. I want Mary to be a regular part of this channel.
I busted out laughing at this one. I'm not a metal kinda guy, but this was so over the top with TALENT that I couldn't stop watching! Mary's voice was magical. Leo pulled off the big-stage festival metal act with unstoppable energy. Cooooool!
I must have listened to this video 100 times. This is the best cover of a song ever.
This is one of those beauties you stumble on and wonder how the hell you've never found it before... Amazing.
yeah I just found this a couple days ago as well. now just going through the rest of them. Good stuff!
Remains me of Lynott
You're going to keep coming back to it, too.
Hogdeath I felt the same after I saw this.
One of the best covers ever made
usually not a huge fan of covers but leo has converted me. Mary and leo is a killer combination. Love your guys work.
This is one of the most incredible covers I have ever heard, and I have heard a lot, and as a result I was drawn into more bands from Europe and it is like I found a whole new way of listening to music. Mary Spender you are unbelievably talented. I now subscribe to both of your channels and will be sharing links with everyone I know. The talent in the room while making this video is beyond compare. I am stunned it took me this long to find out you two exist. I look forward to watching and hearing everything you have made.
Great talent, and the most hilarious facial expressions! Keep it up, Leo!
This just highlights what a masterpiece Sultans of Swing truly is.
Come back these so often. Just incredible covers. Especially when Leo and Mary collaborate. Fresh takes on already great songs. Thank you!
What is absolutely great about this that although metalized one can recognize this as a Dire Straits song immidiately.
Still coming back to this video six years later. One of my all-time favorite songs converted to my favorite genre. Sooo good.
I love musics from Leo but I really falling in love with the voice of Mary Spender. She is also great, I ❤ her voice
This was 4 years ago.. she's not the same anymore unfortunately
@@rndmfella1874 been a tough couple o years fella, dont think many of us are the same :/ 🍻
@@rndmfella1874 Why ???
This one never gets old. Time for another guest appearance by Mary?
Yep
They totally deserve recognition for doing this song so well (their way), as well as the video. It's EPIC!
A carnival for the eyes. And ears, of course.

The cover is fantastic and the outro is smooth! Keep forgetting to comment. I love this and listen to it often!
So gooooood. Seriously, just the frikkin editing should get applause!!!!
This is my favourite metal cover easily! Love the "good cop, bad cop" theme, Mary's voice a perfect fit for this song, and with an end sounding of Pantera. I've watched this over a dozen times- it always returns to my recommendeds and I can't help but watching again.
Same here. It never gets old.
Perfect blending of different styles to make this cover your very own! It wasn't just a mere copy of the original. 10/10
Wow, Mary, you have an amazing voice....Saw you on other youtubes as well.....Leo, keep this going!
I never thought I would say this, but I really like your take of this untouchable piece of music history - well done
Being life long Dire Straits fan ... I must say " It's BRILLIANT!!!
@Axel Foley well said!!
you nailed it man & yes they nailed too.
...so perfect...heard it again and again..don´t know what to say!...i´m speechless!....a pleasure to hear!...for years to come!😉👍
This one and the cover of Africa are my faves!
I cant remember if I've said this before, as I've watched this so many times, but this is the absolute best rendition I have encountered to date, and I've been looking for 40 years.
This is musical gold...both of you are so talented and awesome. Thanks for making this killer track!
I loved it, with two very different voices and solos...
Grew up through prog, metal, rap, grunge, EDM and more, and SoS remains probably my favorite song of all time. Thanks for this rendition, it was great! Mary's vocals are just perfect.
The END! Now Sultans of Swing belongs to these two!
I'm a hardcore dire straights fan and this is brilliant. thank you. let's see what else you've got. great musicians the pair of you.
Yeah its definitely a great cover !
This cover is great fun! There’s tons in his catalog to check out!
One of my all time absolute favorite "Dire Straits" tracks, been listening to it since I was a kid, and they ABSOLUTELY SHRED IT!! UNBEATABLE!! =)
"Hey Mary, show me that riff..."

Canadian here. Flea said it best when the Red Hot Chili Peppers were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. At the beginning of his speech he said "I love music so much". I like all kinds, however, my first and only love is metal. I love these covers and listen to them often. God bless your talent. And your love of music.
