The BEST rendition of Dire Straits' "Sultans of Swing" I have EVER HEARD

- เผยแพร่เมื่อ 11 ก.พ. 2024
- On August 18, 2022, I had the fortune of encountering Aryeh and Gil Gat again, whom I first encountered four years prior. This time I did it right: I recorded horizontally AND I stayed to listen to over a dozen songs.
I will upload all of them in the coming weeks. This is the seventh song of the performance. Unbelievable guitarist!
I do not care if anyone disagrees or not: That is a whole lot of talent sitting there. Being able to play percussion, play rythm guitar and sing without losing a beat, and the other brother being able to finger pick as good as Mark Knopfler is incredible in its self.
I definitely agree!
Agree
Now that's talent
Yes , superb 👍😊
I prefer the version of Msry Spender with Josh Turner
But this is not bad either
Let’s all appreciate he’s playing double and triple taps on his kickbox with his right foot whilst keeping tempo with his left and playing guitar.
And singing…
Wonder if he was a helicopter pilot in a previous season of his life.
I’m of the vintage that I remember Dire Straits from their beginning. These guys are amazing. If only more people could appreciate this, the world would be a much happier place.
If only the world was like this moment.
The Rabbis of Rock!!! That was awesome.
That’s some orthodox guitar playing there.
@@thomasmurray3920you can unorthodox my pants if you keep that bs up!
@@WyWid What BS? Your reply is the only BS I see here.
I'm really digging, seeing Rabi's rocking ! Hope I spelled that right. But yeah, I've seen a few jams on YT with them, different times, different people, but Rabi's ! It's cool. They're good. Really good. Can't help but really appreciate it and enjoy it. Thanks.
Agreed.. Best version I've ever heard.
These guys have been playing on the main street in Jerusalem for ten years or so. They're fabulous musicians ❤
They are just another part of the fundamentalistic Israel. Supporting war and killing children.
Thank you! I was trying to figure out where they were. The Latin letters on the signs threw me off.
@SecularGeek LOL, I hadn't realised so many store names are in Latin lettering till you pointed it out! There is a Hebrew one just above the head of the old guy who's dancing a 1.32. 😊
Really ? I have not traveled beyond North America. Canada and the United States. Back and forth. Lots of summers in Canada. But, no travel, outside that. I've thought about what it would be like to visit Israel. I'd want to walk some places. Having talented musicians playing out on the streets like that would just be nothing other than pure joy ! 💖
I was there in Jerusalem last year. Wish I had got to see these guys.
As a big fan of Dire Straits I clicked on this video expecting something goofy that should be ridiculed. But, damn, these guys are good. Gotta respect this level of skill.
I was thinking the same lol these two are the bomb. Cheers
If I was Mark Knopfler I would be bloody thrilled with this.
Came for the first verse, stayed for the whole song. Excellent!
Me too.
True dat!
Dude NAILED the solo! (and everything before and after...)
Same here
Love the old timer just off camera right. Dancing like there’s no tomorrow.
That’s dad! 🤗🤗
Seen him in Blazing Saddles.. 👍😅🤣
That’s Marks Grandad.
Me too…
Rock on dude from another old timer
There’s some talent there ,absolutely brilliant
Gotta give the guy in the background props for playing air guitar and air drums at the same time. That takes real talent, dude's a hero.
🤣
This is why music exists
Because it doesn’t matter what race, religion,if it’s good it’s good
Love to all ❤
👏👏👏
If it doesn’t matter, why bring it up? Seriously, you went out of your way to post a comment, taking care to mention race & religion. What prompted you to do that? Is there something going on in this video besides a great rendition of an awesome song that caused you to think about race & religion, while declaring that those things don’t matter?
congrats Karen@@MachinedInWood
@@daganhaddadThis
@@MachinedInWood Me thinks thoust does protest to much.
That electric guitar is just singing, holy, that’s mesmerizing playing, and the vocals are just flawless. Stunning.
You might've been entranced by the tone of that old Gibson SG with P-90 (single coil) pickups - prior to the "new" Humbucker (double-coil) pickup design that came out years later. Old Gibson Les Paul's also have the old P-90 pickups and are sought after by collectors for their awesome tone.
@@johnjeffreys6440No, it's not. It really isn't. It's about a pub group.
@@MikeAG333 OK thanks I’ll delete the comment
@@MikeAG333 I guess I can like the song again
@@johnjeffreys6440
Always one spoiler friend❤
The BEST part of the show is grandpa swinging on the side. ❤
I was blessed to meet Mark Knopfler when the first album came out. Hung out a bit, saw some shows; these gentlemen are right up there with the sound! Peace.
I am a diehard Dire Straits fan and I have never heard anyone duplicate this hit so perfect and this was an Extraordinary rendition of that monster hit by Mark K. and to be able to play exactly like mark with just fingers just blows me away. I enjoyed watching them very much and they must be very proud to be able to do this on the street~!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! New Sub!!
Come on. It's far from bad, but also far from Mark Knopfler. Good cover of a great song. Glad I watched it.
Mark said early on he realized a pick just slowed him down and got in the way so he ditched that shit.
This is not a bad rendition at all, but check this one out - might blow yout mind th-cam.com/video/sS1WYIu_gA4/w-d-xo.htmlsi=VK_ALu49QJFn5mhH
This was very good, but I did like Josh Turner and Mary Spender’s rendition a bit better. Josh is an artist on the guitar.
@@micahvandam9658 you want to see some of the badest guitar playing ever...look up ..damian salazar.. doing this and others.
Thank you to both for dedicating the thousands of disciplined hours to play music to us. We are the benefactors of your dedication.
Well said 👍🏻✨
Very well said indeed
You don’t realize how much fun it is to practice! I practice songs I love to play all the time.
We are the beneficiaries of their dedication. The musicians are the benefactors.
@@helenhighwater5313 yes, not quite as well said as others have suggested!
What talented and gifted people.
From one guitarist to two more. Never missed a beat. Rhythms spot on and together first to last note.
That's a busking masterclass.
The guy playing the hollow body was keeping time like a metronome. Absolutely phenomenal!!🇺🇸
Immaculate isn’t it?
👌🏽
Is the tempo a bit fast, or is it just me? (I hate to say anything negative, though, so I buried it under your comment.)
@@loveandabcsperhaps, but that’s often the way with playing live vs the recorded version even when done by the same original artist. Not always, but I’ve definitely noticed it at gigs vs the album
@@loveandabcsI thought about this a bit and it’s tough to answer because Mark has played it in varying tempos, with the the tendency to play slower in later years.
Regardless, I loved it and appreciated it being posted.
It's called a cajón, in case you are interested 👍
I have been a huge Dire Straits fan for over 30 years, and I got goosebumps from this rendition. Thank you so much!!
Considering that track was written on a National Steel Guitar and recorded on a Fender Strat I find it amazing this guy is rocking a Gibson SG, a small Roland Cube amp and some Chorus and Delay pedals and making it sound almost note for note. Just goes to show this guy has CHOPS! 🎸♥👍
Ah yes the sg the guitar Les Paul hated so much he refused to have his name on it.
Honestly not that I’m hating, just always thought that was a funny fact.
@@matthewstock1074 I never cared for Gibsons as a whole, too big and cumbersome...but Guitars are like Vehicles I suppose...all a matter of taste.
@@stevenfrost6441 😂 I love my tele…….. to be fair though as much as I don’t like to play arch tops the sg is still worse imo because it is just sooooo neck heavy.
If I have les Paul money and want sustain will go and try out a prs 🤟🏼. But yea each to there own for sure I have friends that swear by Gibson and it’s not like I would ever be able to say with a straight face they bought a bad guitar, just not the one I would go for.
Happy picking.
The reason it works on a Gibson (that Gibson) is because that's an OLD Gibson, pre-Humbucker. Those are old single-coil P-90 pickups that predate the double-coil Humbuckers. So that's why it sounds more like a Fender Stratocaster, which of course has always had single-coil pickups. Old Gibson Les Paul's also have the P-90 pickup. They're rare and collectors pay a lot for them.
@@rhmayer1 😂 good spot, I had to rewatch to notice the p-90s. Not that I would tell anyone they cant play sultans on any guitar, use an Ibanez rg for all I care.
Also remember that a Gibson’s sustain is as much to do with the laminated neck to body join and Bridge and tailpiece setup instead of through body.
Now. THAT was an absolute pelasure to listen to! A duo being able to capture every layer of such a classic song. Fantastic!
That dude can pick a guitar! Easily the best cover I've ever heard. Well done, gentleman!
You must have been living in a cave if that’s the best rendition you’ve heard! Sorry…… there are tons of great renditions of Knopfler’s song
Watch one of Tommy Emmanuel's versions. He does a couple

Even Knopfler doesn’t pick guitars 😂
This was very good, but I did like Josh Turner and Mary Spender’s rendition a bit better. Josh is an artist on the guitar.
Only one band could do it better so hats off
(Except not, because it's clearly Shabbat given that even the shorthaired man dropping some change was wearing a yarmulke/kippah ;D)
This video is a masterpiece of both - audio and visual art. Seldom do we have the pleasure of watching and listening to videos in which the professional and technical competency of both, the musicians and the videographers are at such a level of perfection.
Wonderful! 👏🏻❤️🙏🏼🇮🇱🕯️ So great to hear them on the streets of Jerusalem!
Someone needs to send this to Mark.... I bet he'd be as impressed as we are.
Probably not.
The electric guitarist is coming close to putting Knopler to shame!
@@christianworthinton8000 Haha, really ????
I’ll get right on that, you have his address!
It's a good thing they don't know this song is about bisexuality. 😃

You both are the Sultans of Swing. A great rendition. Thanks.
I've seen lots of good covers, but this is the best by far. Everything is perfect and these guys are insanely good.
Unreal. What a guitarist
How Many Times in my Life will I Hear something like This?

Nah, not if you’re a jihadist, can’t see any of them listening to Norah Jones!.
Won’t see this in Iran 😢
Nailed the solo these two are so tallented lovely to see and listen to
Makes me want to go to Jerusalem for a holiday just to see these chaps ! Brilliant and thank you for sharing your music with me. Best of luck from the Duchy of Cornwall over in the UK.
They do play in other countries too. Keep an eye out!
2 orthodox Jews in downtown Jerusalem playing Sultans of Swing like they just retired from Dire Straits is just too cool. Rock on dudes. Rock on Israel.😊
The irony is that Sultans are Arabic nobility.
The power of music
Now do werewolves of london
lol right?! love it.
I learned recently that Orthodox Jews are treated pretty damn shitty in Israel. I've seen videos of them protesting the genocidal war against Palestine and them getting harassed and even assaulted by the police.
32k Palestinians killed - many of them women and children. So Israel really doesn't need to "rock on" in all respect to you.
Very nice brothers Gat. Not an easy song to play lead to. Keep on rocking. Music is universal and offer a cure if not a pause from racial and religious hatred in this crazy world we are living in.
Yes brother talk about it!! And the truth sets us all free and in the meantime we got rock and roll with artists just like these cats👊🏻
Very good Edward 👏👏👏👏
That is true except that one foul creed bans music from it's followers. But they are backward medievalists in many other ways too, they live misogynistic joyless lives.

I have seen Dire Straits live 3 times & this is most definitely up there ..Simply awesome...❤🙏..
Amazing guitar skills and vocals too. Years of jamming together as brothers. Very very talented. Admire their skills
Can't help but tap your feet. It is addictive music.

Not only do they nail this cover pretty awesomely, it's also very rare that people stand watching in a bulk and actually take part. 🙃
Electric guitar......Love this guys touch!
Wow!!! I was in the Navy deployed in the Western Pacific when this song came out. We played the daylights out of it.
Music brings us together, weapons tears us apart. If only we all just followed music, love this.
Some shun dancing others encourage it.
Dont forget it starts from the fact that music is haram..
Perhaps, one of the greatest songs ever written. These two guys give it incredible justice! Salute!!
No question about it, this is one of the best ever. From its first play til now, it proves out every time.
An extraordinary composition!
Very well done. Gentlemens voice is very soothing. Bravo gentlemen, Bravo 👏
The control of the SG guitarist with his right hand is amazing, very steady, firm, and precise.
4:02 shows that well
Same fellas who did that amazing rendition of _Shine On You Crazy Diamond?_
Lead guitar is beautiful.

As a member of the old geezer's association I Salute you bray man
First time seeing this and actually sat watching with my mouth agape! Everything; guitar parts, vocals, technique! The man with the SG literally has Knopfler-esque feel. The finger picking/variation on claw hammer playing is astonishing. And the vocalist is so perfectly understated, until its time to kick it up just a lil bit. Just like Mark Knopfler. Incredible. From just TWO people! The electric guitarist is the type of guy I watch &for a minute it'll make me wanna quit. Ive spent 6 yrs working on this song to sound less than half as close. Mind blowing 🤯
well now, that background of people walking by, some stopping, ever so peaceful...blessings to all
I love how the passersby start dancing after the "competition" line. This is wonderful. Thank you.
Music has no borders. It is universal. These two guys do a good version of one of the greatest songs ever written.
Yup. Music and food, two things we can all come together over
One of the best street renditions I’ve heard of this song excellent guitar work mate
a flawless and effortless performance - just amazing
I am sure Mark would love this as well. Nicely done.
I love it when musicians play a song that I know note for note - and they hit them all in the most pleasing manner. There was a time when music and musicians were able to make our hearts ring out, even those of us who can neither sing nor play an instrument. Whoever re-creates that music so well has my ever-loving respect and appreciation.
Absolutely
Well said! I want to hear the original, not some mashed up new version of it 😊
@@deborahfournier7640see, if i want to hear the original, I'll listen to the original. I like covers that are different. This was superb though
I take it you wouldn't stand around listening to Rap???
There are plenty of current artists that capture emotion just as well as those from 30+ years ago. You just have to be willing to look deeper than the radio to find them.
Man...I wanna visit Jerusalem so much!!!! Love Israel!
You mean Palestine!!
@@carolineclements640 Palestine is a region. It's not a state, it's never been a state. The British used the term, when they controlled the region. There are no Palestinians, never have been. Pre world war two, it was common for people to say... Palestinian Arabs and Palestinian Jews.... because it referred to the people that lived in that region. "Region"...being the operative. Going back even further, "Palestine" was used as a slur back in the antiquities but ...that's a old story.
Now, if you're trying to show "support" for the so called "Palestinians"...may I asked, were you a big fan of National Socialism in Germany in the 1930s to 1945? I ask because, supporting Palestine... Is tantamount to supporting the Nazis. Arguably, even worse? Or, are you just ignorant and know next to nothing about the region or the people that reside in Gaza? Are you Muslim? If not, Hamas, Hezbollah, the PLO and basically all shite Muslims want you dead! Especially if you are American. But, that's not all that important. If you are an infidel with no intentions of converting to Islam...then..they believe you should die. If you have sex out of wedlock, dead. Leave the house without your husband, brother, uncle or man of the house.... You would be flogged. Gay? Hope you can fly. (Presuming your a woman based on your name). Do you support the LGBT community? Then...you should take a trip to "Palestine" and express your beliefs... To anyone in Gaza. See how that works out for you. Seriously..I encourage you to take a trip there and show your support. Tell them how you feel. Offer to take up arms against the Jews against the Zionists.
But, before you do that, because you won't be able to after, go to Jerusalem, and tell a Jew you support LGBT community. That you drive a car. That you have sex outside of marriage. Maybe....maybe....you might hear some heated words. More likely.... they'll look at you like ..why are you telling me this? And then...walk away shaking their heads.
So please....if you care so much about "Palestine"....go there and offer your support. Take some friends that agree with you. As many as you can. Then... Post back here letting me know how that went. Holding breath in 3...2...1....
Absolutely fantastic !! Thank you for this🙏🤩❣️
That is high Level Busking.....and it trancends to a whole other level. Totally NAILED it!

What a time to be alive!
Also from Sydney and also loving this!

How great it is.😁 music. Universal langua6.
The guitar playing here is so accurate it’s almost uncanny. These guys are VERY talented.
With respect, it's hardly note for note. They're interpreting a song, making it their own, adapting it to their (considerable) strengths. That's the beauty of it. Few would deny Knopfler as one of rock's great guitarists, and the finger picking runs he plays on the original are pretty hard to copy. But there's no denying this guy rips.
@@miltcoon5515
no one other than Knopfler himself can play it note for note and even that would be a challenge for Mark.
But after listening to literally tons of covers this guitar player does a masterful job at covering the nuances of it all. Extremely tough to do!
That’s magic,I’ve seen dire straits live,brill.
Legit awesome duo. Singer had Mark K's tone down perfect. Lead g had the licks really nice. And the rhythm and percussion from the singer was spot on. Bravo gentlemen!
That is an EXCELLENT cover of a song that's definitely anything but an easy choice! Wow, terrific lead guitar! It takes some serious skill to play like Mark Knopfler! And the vocals, too - excellent!
Bravo! I remember the first time I heard this song on my radio, how old I was and what I was doing. This rendition brought me right back to 1978/79. Excellent.
Absolutely DITTO!!👍

That guy on the left has got the music bones in him!! Playing rhythm, percussion, and singing without missing a beat. He GOOD!!!! The other guy is excellent to, finger picking that lead like he knows all the chords lol. And the old guy to the right dancing like there's no tomorrow! Love it, this was excellent, thanks to the OP for recording it and putting out here for us to enjoy as well.
So nice to see these two getting the monetary recognition they deserve. And the people walking by, swaying, stopping, dancing, playing air guitar and slapping their hands on their bodies are wonderful to see. These guys are playing the Universal Language, for sure. Mad respect, my brothers.

The world is still beautiful ❤
It's so relaxed. Superb. Those guys are professionals. On most covers of this song, the musicians burn through it. These guys got all day...
An unforgettable Summer when this was released. I can time travel and remember every detail when I first heard this song 15 years old on a beach @ St Simmons Island. I can smell the smells.
