    Another beautiful video Christine. I do enjoy doing the mountainous horseshoe walks where you can just about see all your intended route before you set off. The Beacon Beacons do look amazing. Brilliant advice too which is so important especially to those who are new to hiking the fells or anywhere for that matter. Ive certainly got into difficulties over the years when the mist has come down and you can get very disorientated when you have no landmarks to guide you. Ive learnt from those experiences but it can be frightening if you are on your own and have no signal on your phone. Thanks for sharing your journey with us and have a fabulous weekend 🙂

      Thanks Tony - nice to hear you enjoyed this one too 🫶🏻 definitely agree with you on horsehoe walks that you’re able to see entirely at the start, really satisfying! Hopefully you’ll be able to visit the Brecon Beacons at some point, they’re so beautiful. & thank you, a lot of it is common sense/ trial & error, learning from experiences but can never be over prepared! Hope you’re having a lovely long weekend so far 😊

    Dear Christine,
    thank you for the interesting video and the exciting topic. As a hobby and in my free time, I teach a martial art and give courses for violence prevention. I can give you the tip to listen to your sense of construction when a situation seems strange to you.
    I know a woman in the peaks. She also goes hiking alone and swimming. Once, she was observed from a distance. The man used binoculars, and it was obvious that he was only watching her. She did the absolutely right thing; she immediately broke off the hike and went back. It was absolutely right to listen to your gut feeling.
    Kind wishes and have a nice weekend, Gerold

      Thanks Gerold, sorry to hear about your friend, sounds like an awful experience for her and she definitely made the right decision to turn around 👍🏻 as you say, trusting our intuition is key and can prevent any uneasy situation becoming dangerous. Interesting that you teach martial arts, I’ve had a few self defence sessions before, really enjoyed it! Hope you’ve had a lovely weekend too 🫶🏻

    Now that's a route to go on the list, very much worth travelling to Wales just for that one 👍...thanks for taking us along on one of your faves Christine, shame the weather turned....a kit list video would be interesting as I always take too much which isn't a bad thing I suppose 🤔

      It definitely is worth the drive for - really awesome route with stunning views throughout 😍🙌🏻 thanks Andrew, pleased you enjoyed & no definitely better to be over prepared than under! I try to pack light though - saves energy when climbing as my upper body strength couldn’t take it otherwise! Will share a kit list in a future video 👍🏻

      Thank you 😊 it’s a lovely area for hiking, this circular horseshoe is fantastic and the western part is my favourite if you want peace and quiet! Hope you had a good couple of days in Snowdonia 👍🏻

    Thank you for this Christine. As a solo female hiker I found this incredibly interesting and informative. I also carry a pocket size 'Angela' alarm to enhance my feeling of safety which in turn helps me to enjoy the walk that little bit more on my own. I'd be very interested in the separate video about what you pack for day and multi day hikes. Thank you 😊

      @shefreelyroams  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thanks Nicola - really pleased to hear you found this helpful 😊 carrying a personal alarm is a really good idea & as you say gives some peace of mind to allow you to enjoy the walk 🙌🏻 might look to get one myself! & will do a separate video on that then in the future! Hope you have a great week 💛

    Great video. Sound advice. One other thing I think is important (not just for solo females) and you did touch on a bit with gear is to have appropriate footwear. It's so easy to twist an ankle so personally would recommend saving up and investing in walking boots with good ankle support. Would be interested in your gear for day / multi-day hikes. Can you also please include details of camera / photography gear ? Thanks, Kev.

      @shefreelyroams  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes that’s a really good point that I didn’t include in my kit but as you say, so important! Agree that it’s something worth spending money on to avoid injury (I see so many people in trainers at challenging summits worryingly🫣) - really good shout, will include in my gear video when I film it, thanks Kev 🫶🏻 and sure, will include my photography kit too!

    Hi from Denmark ✋
    Love your content, both here and on IG, even though I'll probably never will be walking the same areas 😂
    Would love for you to get a decent microphone with some wind protection - I think that would raise the sound quality to the same level as your awesome video work ❤

    Hi Christine, I've recently found you and subscribed, your tips also apply to solo males, I'm 55, good to hear you carry a whistle, but do you or others know how to use it? This is not a derogative remarke, many people don't know how to use a whistle, maybe a little twist on your channel? Personally Brecon has bad service memories😩😩👍👍☕️☕️💕

    • @shefreelyroams
      @shefreelyroams  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hi Nigel 👋🏻 nice to hear you’re enjoying the videos and joined me on the adventures! Very good point that, didn’t mention in the video the use of the whistle (3 short blasts and then a break to signal distress), which as you say is super important. I might explain how to use it to signal distress/emergency when I share my kit video - really good shout 🙌🏻👍🏻 thank you 😊 and haha oh no, hopefully you can come back and create better memories! 🫣

      @nigelgregory7308 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@shefreelyroams Hi Christine, great to see your response, but your response to the whistle is not right, " 6 blasts for distress, wait 5 minutes and go again, 3 blasts is a reply, but don't stop on the whistle until you have contact with your rescuers, this is in the UK as I guess you are, if I hear 3 whistles I think someone is whistling their dog, take care out there and talk to your ever friendly mountain rescue before you go, we would sooner help you have a better day out than have to find you. 👍👍☕☕⛺🤕

    • @shefreelyroams
      @shefreelyroams  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thanks Nigel, having checked this online, you’re right in terms of the widely international distress signal so good point, I’ve always been taught three blasts is recognised as calling for help/emergency but will have to adapt that going forward as isn’t as widely recognised as 6. Thanks for highlighting :)

      Hi Christine, we are all outdoors enjoying the countryside, but when things go wrong, and I see you are a solo walker, you need to up your game if things go wrong, you can easily twist an ankle, I know I sound like doomsday, but be as prepared as you can, really really glad that you looked up the whistle, I'm not a tuber, so rely on people like you getting good and correct information out, 💕💕🏕

      @@nigelgregory7308 will do, thanks for flagging - we’re all learning as we go, trying out best & if in the future I do a video on safety so specifically sharing that sort of information for others, I’ll be sure to explain the use of the whistle! Have a lovely weekend Nigel 🫶🏻🫶🏻
