Great video! Your vocal tone quality is absolutely superb!! Over the years for live applications with my vocals I’ve used the SM58, Beta 58, EV967, Beta 57A, Sennheiser 835, and just recently picking up the SE V7. Didn’t like the Beta 58 on my vocal for a lot of the reasons you demonstrated, the EV 967 was too hot, dug the Beta 57A, but the rest of the band were using Sennheisers so matched to make FOH eq’ing easier. I am absolutely in love with the SE V7, feeling as if it enhances all vocal characteristic without getting “lost” in the mix, or becoming too discernible, which is what I was running into with the 835. The price of the V7 versus what you get in terms of quality is hands down the best deal I’ve come across so far. Cheers!

Thanks! Your comparisons are probably the best on TH-cam from a musician point of view.

Thanks for the comparison, Anton. I’m relieved to know I’m not just imagining things! Time to retire the Beta 58’s.

I like the Beta 58! The V7 is nice but a bit too much on the high end.

@@jamestheradiomanThere's a touch of synthetic mid from the sv7 i prefer their sv2. Also the beta58 is fantastic! But obviously the earthworks beats everyone out of the ballpark

Yep, totally get that criticism of the Beta 58......until the band kicks in, then it totally comes into its own. I think its geared more towards a loud band situation, we've tried everything and bizarrely, one of the mics that works insanely well is the cheap and cheerful proel DM220! Drummer & guitarist are very loud onstage but the Proel works for vocal for both of them, sounds great out front

I see Anton went with the Shure Beta 58 for the song at the end 😁! SHURE ROCKS!

Not your usual mic test. I like it. Much more factual and intelligent. Nice. Thanks.

Helpful video. As a total amateur though, I couldn't help but think of the Monty Python "woody / tinny" sketch!

"Removed humbucking coil" - I guess because humbucking coils tend to be a sound killer - see SM7B vs SM7, or Fender Strat regular pickups vs 'noiseless' versions. And even adding an output transformer alone should make a big change.

    Hi Anton
Great review 👏 my 58 gave up the ghost after 30 years a testament to build quality from shure, I was going to just replace it with a new one but decided to make a change so I tested various mics and settled for an Akg d5. I would like to see or hear your thoughts on a comparison with the sE V7 thanks.

Hi Anton! Would love to hear your thoughts on the new Mojave audio handheld. They claim to be a bit of a different flavour of dynamic - More focus on the top end and bass than the usual midrange hump! Thanks :)

I appreciate the Full body sound of the 58 which U can sort it out with hpf. I'd choose the 58.

Shure is more noticeable (edgy sounding) the sE more natural.

You should try the Beyerdynamic Opus69 mic. Very clear and natural sound, I believe you would like it. It's a mic that is everything the Beta 58a was meant to be.
