    We use a V7 to tame my wife's sibilance while voice acting. (We try to use condensers for the job, but sometimes noisy neighbors create a need for dynamics!) I'm personally a big fan of the Sennheiser e935, but we used an old AKG D880 for many years. (That thing probably recorded about 80% of our cartoon back catalogue!)

    I think you don't have to make a choice, it's just like listening to music, you listen to the kind of music that suits your mood at that moment, it's the same with a microphone, you should actually have several types of microphones and use the one that you think sounds best at that moment, that's my opinion, everyone should see for themselves what suits them best.

    A lot of the mics presented in this video sound (and are) nice, but based on the sounds (in your video), I lean towards the sE V7. If I'm not using my ears, I also find it the most attractive. It features small features that make you wonder why other mics with the same form factor don't do that (such as the anti-roll staggered rim). At the end of the day, I supposed it, as always, comes down to one's ever-shifting preference.

  • @williamburkholder769
    @williamburkholder769 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    I've loved the 58 for years, but the sE V7 seems to work far better on some voices. It has less-pronounced proximity effect, and the bass rolls off at a higher frequency than the bass on the 58 rolls off. Listen to Dany Villarreal of the up-and-coming rock band, The Warning. She sounds great on the V7, at their live Teatro Metropolitan show in 2022, but if you go back to their 2018 *Queen of the Murder Scene* live show at Lunario, recorded with an SM58, her vocals are muddy and buried in the mix. At least some of that is microphone, and some may be lack of compression, but their live shows recorded with the V7 capsule are far more intelligible. The vocal punches through a LOT better.
    The differences among these mics are pretty subtle, until you listen for a while. In the end, it comes down to which one works for the individual performer or speaker. A case can be made for having at least a couple of each.

    In live situations the Sennheiser e835 is a useful mic but it has obvious deficiencies compared the other mics on this test apart from the berry obv. The V7 and D5 both sounded excellent as alternatives to the SM58. I thought the V7 was closest sounding to the D5 although the frequency plot seemed to tell a different story. Although I would still take the SM58 in most vocal situations I am tempted by the V7, I think it will be great for some vocalists and would take it over a D5 simply because I dislike the D5 visually.

    I'm looking for a dynamic mic that doesn't thin out the lower parts of my voice range. It seems that the mics in this video that will serve this purpose are the v7 and the AKG d5. My ear test on this video says that the v7 retains the low end a little more tightly than the d5 (d5 sounds a little boomier to me), but I'm concerned about the low-end "roll off" that is mentioned. The sm58 like the sm7b has a rumbling static sound imo

    I prefer the sE V7x ("instrument mic")... just gotta be extra careful with those plosives.

    Super duper.. I Like it but TH-cam made everything sound so similar. I might have to buy the Billy Gibbons version and try one for myself

    The V7 has more handling noise than the SM58. If you perform live and hold the mic, It’s noisier in my experience.

    Does the v7 have a pop filter?

    I have one, and also the V3. Compared to the sE V3, the V7, to my ears, is dull to the point of sounding hollow. Only with enough bass and treble boost does it seem to have any life at all. My advice: Save $30 and get a V3.

    hum.. the Shure SM58 and sE V7 is for me at the same Lvl to be honest :D
    This mic was on my list to, as I searched for a XLR mic. But I chose the SM58 because of the Off Axis Rejection. Its better on this mic :D
    I don't want that my mates hear my keyboard or my mouse xD
    But as you say: the sE V7 is a rly good mic :D and looks a little bit better as the SM58 to be honest XD

    why e835 and not e845 ?

  • @mange586
    @mange586 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Well, in that environment all would work. How well does your vocal stand out 4 feet from a drumkit? And the plosives seem very bad with this mic so bad that you didn´t even care to do the test! We all hear them right. Yeah, for sure we do. How does the comparison in plosives work out. Good for you you got a free mic. This test was not telling very much other than they all sound doable in a studio.
