      True for the arab owners but not in this case. The owner is Alisher Usmanov. He made is 23 billion dollar fortune mostly in metal and mining operations, communications and other investments.

    • @aggonzalezdc
      @aggonzalezdc 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Heh, yea. Not really in this case, this isnt owned by an oil prince, but a Russian prince. A Russian businessman who shall we say...is very well liked by the government in Russia... Now I wont say that enough people might owe him favors that he ends up getting the fuel for free anyway, but not because he owned it in the first place.
      Either way? Usmanov could not give a shit less if he had to pay .8M USD to pay for fuel.
      I was at a seminar with a guy who used to work for Ted Turner. The guy had worked really hard to try to save him about $20,000,000 USD on this deal they were making. When Turner asked him why the deal was taking so long he told him that he was close to saving him 20 million. He told him, not angrily, but firmly, "Pay the fucking 20 million. I dont give a fuck about $20 million. I care about TIME. Just get it done, now."
      Thats how these men think.

    Revisiting this. I just watched a vid today on Seen through Glass where he visits the largest fuel station in Britain off the M25 with 36 pumps. That petrol station’s entire tank capacity is a million litres. So this vessel has the same fuel capacity as the biggest petrol station in Britain. Crazy when you put it into perspective like that

    • @noelht1
      @noelht1 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The new Shell filling station has a total of 141 fuel nozzles and is the only site on the M25 to sell autogas (automotive liquefied petroleum gas) to drivers.
      It also offers six high speed Heavy Goods Vehicle (HGV) lanes and three Adblue pumps, a solution designed to help reduce exhaust emissions from diesel engines that is not currently widely available in the UK.
      The new station has been built to cater for the significant numbers of fleet drivers and motorists travelling on the M25 every day, which, at the most recent count, was 150,000.
      It has the capacity to serve up to 3,400 vehicles a day, compared to an average of 700 at a standard filling station.
      In the region of 10,000 vehicles per day are expected to use the overall range of facilities at the Extra Service Area.
      At least four fuel tankers will be making deliveries on a daily basis. The fuel tanks on site have the capacity to store more than a million litres of fuel - enough to fill over three swimming pools.

    • @philipsmith4849
      @philipsmith4849 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Comment may be old but has to be corrected. Even 9 months ago adblue was sold at pretty much every filling station that had a hgv pump. There are ofc some that didn't sell it then and still don't sell it. But they aren't common (ALL WITH HGV PUMPS not just regular cars). And I've yet to come across a filling station that didn't sell it in plastic containers even regular car filling stations. And I use adblue on almost a daily basis. Hgv driver my truck is a thirsty girl but I love her just the same about 9mpg is common but will go to about 1 or 2mpg up a steep hill with a full load. 🚛💗

      It tends to rarely move much, however needs to generate its own power, because no port (to my knowledge) is capable of providing shore power to this behemoth. Digging deeper, vesselfinder.com provides historical tracking and seems to suggest two refuellings in Gibraltar in 2020. This is much less than expected, however they probably go up to 6-7. Fuel is not that big of an expense portion here, as all other costs are simply astronomicalz

      Diesel generators are incredibly efficient and their outputs are easily charted. 100 liters per hour provides about 65A or 1500kW. Not knowing the boat at all, I’m gonna estimate that two of these are required to run at all times (load and aux), with a third at standby. So with a diesel consumption of 200 liters an hour, and a tank over 1,000,000 liters you can run your hairdryer onboard for 5000hours or 208 days.

      As long as they are port the use is “minimal” say about max 10m3 gasoil per day as hotel use. 1000/10= 100 days in port so refueling every 3 months.

    I'm interested in the costs to operate a large 2-3 mast sailing yacht, fuel costs, crew costs, etc. They seem to have a larger crew due to the needs of the multimasted yacht. And I noted they often have engines and I wondered how much fuel they save or use because of the sails?
    Also, what's a ballpark cost of a captain and crew for a 150 to 200 foot sailing yacht... Thanks!

    • @bertpierey3655
      @bertpierey3655 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      That of course depends on how much you sail with it. Running costs in total per year are estimated at 50 to 80 million US$. So fuel is just a little part of it 😉 labor costs are highest i think. Normal rule is 20% running costs, this is less then that so pretty accurate. Dont forget its a ship that costs 800.000.000 US$

    How far would a fill up take that super yacht? Is the fuel used while it is docked or only when it is actually moving? Do yachts use fuel for energy needs, like operating the lights, stoves, heat, air conditioning, pool cleaners? Are fuel prices for yachts generally the same everywhere or do they fluctuate? Do owners have ways to use yacht costs as a tax deduction?

  • @dionlindsay2

    On the other hand, you're talking about the equivalent of shifting a cul de sac of houses about 7000 nautical miles. That would be quite expensive too. Annoyingly the couple of sites I found its specifications on, leave the range (presumably on one tankful) totally blank.

      When the boat is at rest, but supplying her own power there will typically be two generators running, one load and one auxiliary. These generators run on set amount of fuel, between 15-50 liters per hour. So you could stay at anchor for a couple lifetimes.
      I couldn’t find specific info on Dilbars range or consumption, but estimates pointed at a range of 6-10,000nm. That could transport you almost half the way around the world (21,600nm), which would take 350 hours at top speed - just over two weeks.
      Keep in mind that this was done from my couch, with only minor attention paid to fact checking, and no data specific to Dilbar

    • @shamsmirza
      @shamsmirza 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Basically if you are running around whole year round you need at least $12000,000 a year at least .

      i know the 10% rule, but would be more interesting to go into details what it would cost. salaries is properly not too hard to find out if you know the general pay check of a captain, cleaner, cook ect, and also what it would cost to feed them.
      Also look into how many times it refills pr year, and how much it spend time in other marinas.
      How much it cost to insure it, and much to keep helicopter pilots on the boat at any time. ect ect

    Biggest powerplants is for sure Azzam. 2 x GE LM2500 gas turbines and 2 x MTU 20V 8000 M91 diesel engines for propulsion.
    Gas turbines are almost 25000hp each, and the diesel engines are over 10000 hp each.
    So you have over 70000 hp installed. Also one of the main reason Azzam can reach over 30 knots of speed.

    But here's another way of looking at it: The boat that I was on could hold about 225,000 liters, worth say about $200,000. With that fuel we could leave Gibraltar go to New York and come back to Gibraltar. We carried 30 to 35 people on the boat at all times. Now take 30 to 35 normal people, with their houses, their offices, and their cars. Think of all the energy it would take to keep all of them going. When you add all of that up, over the period of time it would take our boat to go to New York and come back, the amount of energy expended isn't all that different.
