    Lurssen is currently investigating the ownerships of all yachts under construction. They must be worried !

    • @mvpfocus
      @mvpfocus 2 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Up to this point, they've been more than happy to take large sums of money without verifying the source of funds. So, what has changed? Their website still advertises, "complete confidentiality." The law should have always required ship-makers to verify that _all_ transactions meet international anti-money-laundering and tax evasion laws, in the first place. It shouldn't take sanctions for operations to suddenly be above-board. There should be zero "confidentiality" in spending hundreds of millions on acquiring vast amounts of properties, with large expense books. Otherwise, it's highly suspect to be used as a way to hide ill-gotten gains or other slush funds.

      Money being frozen worried about payment

    • @Nina-ig5ev
      @Nina-ig5ev 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@mvpfocus In the end, they are simply running a business - whoever can pay for a boat gets a boat to a certain extend. They must have also checked in the past who they sold to, since Lürssen also builds vessels for defence/military and can’t allow themselves to loose eligibility for those contracts. Now they are checking even more since the “black list” of companies and people is growing and changing every day and they are not allowed to deal with people on that list. I think one should remember that these are luxury goods they are selling (crazy expensive, yes), but not anythings that actually harms the people.... those ships that have mounted guns are not sold to private persons but only to governments. So making the shipyards responsible to check the backgrounds of their customers to the extend you mentioned seems extreme imo...

    • @mvpfocus
      @mvpfocus 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Nina-ig5ev Private mega mansions on water don't have to have "mounted guns" to be detrimental to society as tools for tax evasion and money laundering. The only reason it's probably gone on this long is because of greased palms. It may have taken an unjust war to finally start to enforce the laws, but less corruption and more transparency would make the world a better place.

    If you can either
    a) describe the yacht
    b) provide proof of ownership
    the yacht is yours.

    So the important question that comes to my mind is: why do authorities like BKA or others find out about possible money laundering or potentially illegal activities around the companies connected to Dilbar, or any other suspicious vessel, only NOW? That would have been their job and duty years ago as well. Quite embarrassing for them infact. There have been several so called leaks from the financial and banking sector in the last years and they could not move a finger up until now? What is their job then?

      these assets are not taken because there is any accusation of money laundering or illegal activities. That's why there is no rightful legal procedure towards any of the owners.
      It is just a political move. You are Russian and wealthy? We steal your assets, so that you get angry at Putin....
      Western legal system was flushed down the toilet and on the long run it will cost way more to the western countries than to the Russian.

      Creating a maze of holdings to conceal your ownership as such does not constitute a crime.

    The well known street con is called a shell game. For the mega rich, whether entirely lawful, slightly dodgy or downright criminal, it seems the name of the game is shell companies, to hide, obscure and otherwise disguise the ownership of assets, understandable for the last two categories, but concerning for those that are nominally in the first group. A management company which operates a vessel for an owner is fair enough, but when it becomes multiple companies or legal entities in multiple jurisdictions then there starts to be a smell of week old fish. Thanks for another look be the curtain (iron or otherwise).

      True, but it does seem that all this is a form of psychological projection. Obvious criminals in world governments confiscating other criminals ill-gotten gains to avoid revelations about their own criminality. In other words, simply accusing others of that which you do yourself....and then take their stuff in the process. The whole scheme is clearly downright criminal, especially since NATO countries destroyed Libya, performed the coup inn Ukraine with Neo-Nazis and support al-Qaeda terrorists in Syria, as well as the despotic countries of Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Turkey, etc. In the modern day, one mans despotic oligarch is another mans globalist billionaire philanthropist. Maybe this has been asked.. with all these super yachts being "arrested" does it mean that eventually they end up on the market for sale? What impact could this/will this have on the super yacht market from a pricing standpoint. Seems like a sizeable percentage of the buyers in this market are currently on the sidelines, from what I am seeing these oligarchs may have made up a significant potion of the market?

    • @JimOHalloran
      @JimOHalloran 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I've been wondering this myself. If the yachts that were arrested are just returned to their owners when all of this is over, then what's the point of taking them? An earlier eSysman video mentioned that around 10% of all superyachts are believed to be owned by Russians. So a significant proportion of the world's superyacht fleet coming onto the market in a short period of time is going to drive prices way down, if they're sold. But I guess as long as the seizing government gets enough out of the sale to cover the costs of seizing and holding the vessel they probably don't care if it's a bargain. I;d love to know what's going to happen to them though.

      Will the ships be sold? That depends. If the owner of Dilbar, for example, is found guilty of money laundering, the ship will be officially seized (along with other assets) and sold. Ships that have been seized (not arrested) due to unpaid debts, will be sold to recover said debts.
      Will it effect values? Well, some (Russian) oligarchs will now be wary of buying such extravagant assets, so it could cause a drop in values.

Glossy paint jobs, lots of cool toys, but at the heart, Lego constructions made from common parts to whatever size that the customer can afford. I live in Antibes and my apartment overlooks the Millionaires Row and the usual berth of DILBAR. I have video of the last time it was in port here and the 22 minutes it took that very experienced crew to dock her. Interestingly enough, although the port of Antibes is larger and deeper than Monaco and Cannes our more infamous neighbors DILBAR and the yachts of Abramovich cannot both fit into our port at the same time. You may believe that his sister leaves the key under the mat for her brother's use but those of us who know crew members, delivery services, professional female guests, etc etc. know that HE owns that yacht and he always has---including the helicopters that ferry him and guests back and forth between Antibes and Monaco or San Remo or wherever he wants. DILBAR is usually in port for the start of the sail racing season in June and very visible was her repaint (change of colors) last year. DILBAR always looks tip top and there are always guests on board for the major yachting shows on the Riviera. So let's not believe the layers of paperwork. All these yachts, helicopters, airplanes and villas should be confiscated (some oligarchs and/or their grand families and myriad companies actually have the nerve to owe the French government property taxes!!!!). The yachts themselves and all their precious gold leaf contents and artwork should be sold and after back French taxes are paid the money should go directly to UKRAINE for rebuilding!! Yes, these yachts supplied lots of jobs to locals and our Michelin star restaurants will miss their money too but at what price for human life and decency? I shall miss the spectacle outside my windows and from the ramparts which were armed guarded from us local "rif-raf" but I would prefer to see this man and all his sisters and co-conspirators dropped from helicopters into the Med----far enough out so that the fat tub of over-consumption cannot possible swim ashore or be rescued by Putin's other henchmen. Yes I am angry and sad. Victory to Ukraine! Peace to the people of Ukraine and all their neighbors.

      The SCALE of money laundering is estimated in the $TRILLIONS$. The primary means of concealing wealth is shell corporations, such as the 36 'offshore' corporations linked to this 'yacht' (more like ocean liner). They are created with such a complex web of ownerships, trusts, corporations, lessors, etc. that sometimes it is essentially impossible to fully nail down who the owner(s) is/are. The scale of these shell corporations has been highlighted by three troves of leaked documents. If you're interested, look into 'Panama Papers', 'Paradise Papers', and 'Pandora Papers'. Shell corporations and the entities catering (often small island nations, also Cyprus) to them, should be banned.

While shell corporations often serve to avoid taxes, an even larger purpose is to conceal ownership. That's why in tis case it had 36 offshore corporations. Many are likely fictitious offshore corporations, with no physical existence other than a post office box.
      Additionally, the taxes they avoid paying to the tax friendly island nations has zero relation to their ties with Putin. When Putin needs cash, he just tells the oligarchs it's time to deliver.
