A good load of firewood also fit in the back and my trucks were high enough to drive off road. The more pickups have changed over the years it seems to me they have lost a lot of their usefulness. They have larger cabs and smaller bodies. How do you haul plywood or 8 foot two by fours now? Hanging over the back? Now some trucks are ridiculously high so that they are a hazard to pedestrians. The bodies are so high that putting a load on the back of the truck means you have to lift things higher than you should have to lift them. It just seems they are losing their usefulness and utility. I think they saved money designing it. Instead of paying a designer, they gave an 8 year old a pencil, a ruler, and a piece of paper and said, "Draw a car."
Yeah there’s lots of names for this motoring abomination 😂 , I call it the cyber barge or the piss trough😊, one of the motoring journo’s calls it the Urinal😊. Musk designed a horrible gimmicky ridiculous impractical toy that opened him up to all sorts of criticism. However, it certainly got him some free advertising even if a lot of it was bad.
A friend of mine just received his Cybertruck, after waiting several years. He let me drive it and it was a strange experience. I actually enjoyed driving it once I got used to the feel and function of all the electronics. It's an odd vehicle to say the least. For now, I think I'll stick to driving my old Tacoma.
I agree. Plus the battery range is a criminal joke! I’ll wait 10+ years and see if range is over 500 miles and all the other little glitches are addressed
@@youtubeuser3182 A new upgrade for the battery now allows 450 mile range I believe. $14K, but then if you can afford the Cybertruck that's not an issue.
@@arbiter3297 still ridiculous. The reasons for having a truck are to haul/tow heavy items. Even at 450 estimated range the reality would be 200ish miles depending on road conditions
My 5 year old son loves these things. That’s probably the appropriate target audience. I keep thinking of the Jurassic Park quote: “You did this to see if you could, but you never asked yourself if you should.” 😂
When we first saw one my wife and I agreed that it was such an ugly vehicle and we wondered who in their right mind would buy one. We shared our view with our neighbors wife who thought likewise. Two weeks later, much to her embarrassment, her husband arrived home having bought one as a surprise. Now we have to look at this grotesque tin can everyday. More money than sense, some folk.
The Cybertruck reminded me of the Hummer. It's supposed to be a utility vehicle, but better served as an expensive fuel guzzler driven only to draw attention.
@@zacharysherry2910 The El Camino is M U C H less dumb, In fact the El Camino is not "dumb" at all! Many people need to haul awkward, but not too heavy loads. Coupe based pickups were a thing. (Ask Australia!). Such a vehicle would be better for me than my F-150. I don't haul anything heavy, but too bulky for a van. I NEED an Old school Ranger or S-10 OR EVEN BETTER an El Camino! I'd like a 1987 El Camino with a Buick Regal nose, and done up like a GNX, (I don't need the ACTUAL T-Type/Grand National performance, But the look is cool as all hell.) - only hauling mid-size appliances! 👍👍
All these first-gen EV trucks are about early adopters paying too much for clumsy first attempts. And the CT is just an extreme example. Give it a few more years for the batteries to lighten up, charge faster and last longer. I'll consider then. But I know it's coming.
@@jadenamber8378 not if Hybrid has anything to do with it. Hybrid sales have doubled in the US with EV sales falling month on month. Here is Oz too. People don't need a truck that rips to warp speed, they need a truck that has payload and towing capacity over great distance. Hybrid trucks are what we want and need and this CyberTruck is a joke.
one thing I can't figure out. No way would any other car manufacturer even consider building this monstrosity. They wouldn't sink funds into its development because no way could they turn a profit on it. Which leads me to ask, where is Tesla getting its funding if it's losing money? Who's footing the bill? Something stinks to high heaven. EVs are money-losing boondoggles for the manufacturers including Tesla, yet Tesla and other EV startups (Rivian, Fisker,Lucid) are sprouting like weeds. What gives?
Yeah, back in the day, this would have been a show car. and the insanity would have stopped there. Like a 1957 Chevy powered by a gyroscope of something.
Tesla knows that its a concept and all those who are buying it are test bunnies in a lab. I bet new redesigned will come out and be heck of a lot better, mark my words. I have done this once in my life and will never do it again. I was a first buyer of newly redesigned vehicle, 1st batch out of the factory, even though warranty covered a lot, problems never stopped all the way through to expiration of warranty- yes this even included ceased engine at 50k miles- manufacturer was already aware of likelihood for this to happen therefore had to take care of 6k repair. From now on, I am only buying models that have matured. If Cybertruck is worth attention or even close to what they are asking for it, maybe by 3rd generation. Imagine what kinda truck you can buy for 90k? Enough said.
@@hui975 I am not saying there aren't happy people, even thought the same yet not every vehicle holds the same ,if you know what I mean. Looks is a taste thing that cannot be argued therefore some of what I have stated is just an opinion. At the same time, vehicle is too young to tell how it holds. I was very happy with my purchase too, was a fan, not until later when final conclusion could have been drafted.
@@shou635 I registered for one in 2019 and have been saving up since then. Adjusted for inflation, $50k would be $63k today. Even once Foundation Series ends, and adding in the tax credit, Cybertruck will still be $10k more than that. With no tailgate ramp and less range. I'm still saving my money. Cybertruck2 in 2027. Ford Maverick for now.
Elon Musk wanted to take a "think outside the box" approach to every element of this vehicle. Putting the gears on the roof, replacing the tried and true steering wheel, one giant wiper for the whole giant wiendshield, hidden headlights, camera views for right and left, right and left turn signal buttons instead of on a stick... Sometimes "the box" _is_ the box for a reason.
@@ROOKTABULA I would say just the opposite. He's a genius but no salesman. Musk has avoided for years now the creation of a simple, low-cost, EV that actually sells for under $30,000. I think to his mind that's boring. It's what buyers want, but it's boring. He'd rather build a truck full of eccentricities simply because he can. Both Tesla and SpaceX are incredible and successful innovations. Not because Musk is a salesman. But because he is historically one of very few people intellectually capable of doing so. But, he needs to innovate then step away. He is absolutely terrible at running an established business.
Musk is like your stoned friend that's always saying "dude, wouldn't it be cool if...." Sure, they're kind of neat ideas if you're also high, sometimes. The difference is, Musk has the money to make it happen, and I still haven't found the correct amount of weed that would convince me to buy one of these.
The cybertruck looks like what you get if you asked a high school art student in 1995 to draw what they think a car would look like in 30 years on a PS1.
Maybe Elon had some kid from 1995 frozen 🥶 in and time and woke him up in 2013 and told him to draw ✍🏾 a concept car for the future and him not realizing that he was already in the late 2000’s lol 😂
Frankly, I never liked the extruded triangle aesthetic design of Tesla's Cybertruck from day one, but I had no idea how the overengineering and over-digitalization of everything inside the car could be so insane, distracting, and potentially so dangerous for anyone used to driving regular trucks and cars. That truck is just too nutty for me (and waaaaaaay too expensive anyway), but thanks, Scotty Kilmer, for such a thorough review and test drive. :)
So fun fact. It's not built for heavy duty work. The tailgate is not capable of withstanding or holding heavy impacting loads without bowing the tailgate panel, warping hinges, or misaligning. The tow hitch will pull off because it's literally not attached to steel, it's bolted to a sheet metal frame. And you're paying twice as much as a car for this. Just because it was made by Tesla and looks like a deformed low-poly Hot Wheels
@GrievousAngelo It shouldn't be. Usefulness, practicality, mileage, sustainability and affordability should be priority. Tesla excels at none of those things.
I come in and on your other video before I had seen this and this is exactly what I was looking for. Perfect video and exactly what I thought it would be
Something created for people who have too much money and desire to give it to a billionaire for 15 minutes ego boost and a whole lot of buyers remorse!! These are ridiculous
That was not a "brutally honest" review. He was being very kind to it because he wants the charity to sell tickets. You should see some of the actually "brutally honest" reviews ... it's been panned pretty badly by a number of outlets.
Nowadays it's $4M, with inflation. Unless Clarence is just a really good negotiator... "300K and that's my final offer"... "No, I insist on $4MILLION!!!" "OK, how about $1 million." "For $4 million, you get THREE verdicts in your favor!" "OK, OK, you win, $4 million it is..."
My Toyota Pickup (yes pickup not Tacoma) with a 3.4l V6 will also tow 11,000lbs, and will still have plenty of fuel after 70 miles. You actually couldn't pay me to own one of those.
@TheUnseenKrab my husband and I drive Tundras. I have the 1794 special edition and he has the TRD Pro. We have pulled many things with both. Best trucks!!!
I'm sure others have pointed this out, but the steering of course is by wire. There's no direct connection. (Infiniti did it first) So at slow speeds it over steers for maneuverability turning all 4 wheels. At faster speeds it readjusts how much the wheels will turn compared to how much the steering wheel is turned. Should have also pointed out that there is no floor, only the top of the battery. If the battery is dropped in the Cybertruck or the Model Y the seats, carpeting, center arm rest, and etc. all go with the battery cause they are attached to the top of it.
The big thing I really dislike in new vehicles and especially this one is the touch screen for operating everything. It is hard to use without taking your eyes off the road where as using knobs and push buttons to operate things like the radio and AC is something one can do by feel without taking your eyes off the road.
Been driving Teslas for years and it’s way safer than all the buttons on my wife’s VW. If you’re concerned you can do anything with voice commands. Try it, they work really really well!
And if the unit fails, get ready to take out a second mortgage to pay for repairs!!! For example: An older Dodge Daytona EVIC went out, and THAT was $3000+ to fix!
Hi Scotty, The overhead PRND is the backup selection. When you put your foot on the brake, the upper left side of the screen displays the F and R for you to select (slide up or down).
He is the only reviewer that I have seen that actually talks about this. He doesn’t know what it is, but it’s funny. He mentions it. I hate the idea of the screen being the shifter.
@@mikej5959 same with power steering sound - that is probably just tires going lock to lock since he seems to not be aware its a speed sensitive drive by wire.
He was also wrong about the fact that you would have to use the ceiling controls. You can also touch the small cybertruck on the left side of the touch screen and push it forward or backward on the screen to put it in drive or reverse. Either way it is a very stupid idea and requires way too much of a driver to be able to drive it effectively especially if you're parking in a tight space.
The only person on the planet fit to honestly review a vehicle. Love you Scotty all the way from England. I tune in nearly every day and you make this cripple smile when I should be crying. All the best my friend.
When a coworker first showed me an image of Tesla's Cybertruck, my first reaction was, "Man, that is one FUGLY truck and so impractical too. No thanks," and my opinion has never changed. :)
My totally changed. Amazing car! Huge and strong vehicle for a good price. My Gas Toyota hilux got so many problems and the space is Not enough.. I want a cybertruck in Europe!!
The tail lights on the Cybertruck works opposite of cars. When it stops, the lights dim. When accelerating, the lights brighten. This will confuse other drivers.
For drive and reverse, the ceiling buttons are backups. They want you to use the controls on the left side of the touchscreen. Slide up for drive, slide down for reverse.
@@deandawiz Nah it's called operating by feel, not sight. In a conventionally shifted car you shouldn't have to look down at the shifter every time you shift, you operate by feel. Any time you stare at the shifter it's considered poor driving skill. Now this vehicle has no feel, you simply have to blindly slide your fingers all over a flat screen, or look away from the road at the screen. Poor design. What if you wear reading glasses? Going to switch back and forth trying to read fine print on a screen or going to actually drive?
I’m 31 year young house wife with 3 kids and I don’t have a clue about a car. I was surfing TH-cam for what oil change should I purchase off Groupon and I run into this guy and have not left. He is super interesting and I’m learning 😂😂🤷🏾♀️. God bless you sir
The housewife, age, and children count is doing too much. You are over sharing big time for a youtube car comment section. Nobody cares except for creeps
So perhaps you can tell me why a charity foundation is waisting contributions on such an expensive and useless vehicle? Isn't that misappropriation of charity funds? 🤔
Scotty, the steering wheel is so responsive at slow speeds because the car uses steer by wire. That's why the steering wheel doesn't turn that far. At low speeds, slight adjustment to the steering wheel makes sharper turn than it will at high speeds. The truck also has rear wheel steering, which is why such a big truck can make tight turns. There is no mechanical connection between the steering wheel and tires with steer by wire.
@@Bryan46162 Yeah It's not like cars ever break down and you have to manually steer the vehicle. Cars have been working flawlessly, especially complex electronic tech
@@Dave__f Has 2 redundancy circuits, one full steering on the wroght, and another on the left. If one fails, the other takes over in milliseconds. Faster than most flying commercial airplanes. Google things a little more. Also there are videos on youtube explaining it.
The stainless steel body is part of why the range sucks so bad. It would have still been overkill if it was half as thick as it is now. Plus they used low quality stainless so it's having problems with rusting. You can fix that by wiping it down every time to gets wet or having a clearcoat sprayed. Kind of silly that you need to pay an extra $5000 for a clearcoat just to keep your $100k truck from rusting
No, it absolutely won’t rust! The steel is a proprietary grade designed by SpaceX for their Starship. What you’re describing is industrial fallout from rail transport. The same thing happens to white paint. Sigh 🤕
@@westsailsmusicit's a Scotty TH-cam comment section. You have to expect that the people watching have no education about the product, and it shows. Scotty is included in this.
False. The Tesla Cybertruck uses a variety of steels, including mild, high-strength, ultra-high strength, and stainless steel. The exoskeleton is made from Tesla's patented Ultra-hard 30X Cold-rolled Stainless Steel alloy, which is also used in the SpaceX Starship rocket. The panels are 3 mm thick and are bulletproof against a 9 mm handgun
I still drive my 1999 C2500 chevy 295000 miles with same engine and transmission.. Just oil changes and transmission service when due. One of Scottys favorites as I remember.
My friend, purchased the truck; which is his fourth Tesla 😅. I think he bought it because everyone looks at you driving down the road. I know his electric bill is more than what I pay at the gas pump per month for my 330I 😂😂. He wrapped it black because of the finger prints … it’s a rich man’s toy which leaves me out thank God 😎
My nieces husband just bought one, he was one of first to put down deposit, he said he paid 90k with tax and license , it gets finger prints all over the aluminum, he’s talking about having it plastic coated, she got into it with sunblock all over her and the seats got stained so he had to spend several hundred dollars for seat covers. You can’t charge it over 80% so you can maybe get 270 miles on a charge but when it gets under 90 you get nervous so maybe count on 180 miles to do anything, its hard with limited mileage to do serious off-roading on a charge so it’s just a status symbol but pretty cool, they have solar wit charging and 3 batteries so he saves a ton on gas
It's stainless steel not aluminium. Seats are easily cleanable. You can charge it to 100% for road trips. For daily use charge at home up to 70%. I only use 15 percent of battery daily.
Typical misinformed propaganda being spread. My friends who own the truck for use and not youtube videos are loving it. There's a learning curve but it's not hard.
@@RoadRallyLifeI wrote this originally, I hated it at first but am thinking of getting one now with the range extender, I think my last sentences were typo, it’s not really for serious off roading because no charging stations in middle of now where, u got extra tanks on my F250
@@Sal3600looking at this from months ago, I thought it was a joke at first but now I’m seriously thinking of getting one now that we are planning on moving to home with solar and I’ll need tax deduction, they actually save a lot in gas
I'm half way through this review and I gotta head for my Dramamine, motion sickness pill. Scotty's got that camera affixed to one of those fast waving arms.
@@hagestad That is not true. It adheres to the same passenger impact regulations as any other pickup. How is it any different than the front of a big RAM!?!
At least the Delorean had a kind of good looking design. Not this thing. Looks like something a five year old would come up with for a pinewood derby car.
@8:21 Scotty said you are going to have to clean this thing constantly, or it's going to look like a dirty refrigerator. At least a refrigerator is very cool!! 😊😊
There is a setting where it will ‘guess’ and automatically shift into drive, reverse, or park... but manual shifting is done by swiping your finger up for forward, or down for reverse, on the left side of the main screen. The light up buttons you pressed are secondary/emergency shift options.
Towing 11,000 lbs is not the only use for a work truck. Even then, most doing that regularly would not buy a F150, they would buy a heavier duty truck. Other than towing heavy loads, long distances it does other work stuff quite well. The video says the bed is a odd shape for storing things but does not mention that it is made to fit sheet goods with ease. Last I checked nobody worries about fingerprints on their work truck

The cyber truck reminds me of the silly looking futuristic vehicles from 1970s😅 made for TV, sci-fi movies.
Elon musk is hung up on that 🙄
Yeah, it's a cool looking truck.
@@ShannonMatthews-rj3hp it’s the annual I hate Elon musk annual parade in Detroit 😂
Hey it's the DeLorean dad😮😅😅😅
Mad Max😅
Makes me smile to see Scotty with so many subscribers.
Was over 6.8 m before he started rambling about politics instead of cars.
@@Nozinbonsai Hope he's not Maga or he'll lose another one. But I'd be surprised if he is.
This loveable nutter is worth his weight in gold to the thousands of ppl he advised n helped!! 🙏❤️
Never clicked on a video so fast!! Scotty with a Cyber Truck is MUST see TV!!
The DeLorean of the 2020s
Exactly!
😆😆😆😆Well Said! I have a friend who loves both vehicles🤣🤣🤣 Thankfully, He doesn't own either one of those scrap heaps.
At least the Delorean had a kind of good looking design. Not this thing. Looks like something a five year old would come up with for a pinewood derby car.
The Delorean & the Pontiac Astek had a ugly love child 😂
The delorean is more beautiful an practical than this thing.💩🤢🤮😖🤦♂️
That's the biggest microwave I've ever seen.
😂😂
😂😂
EVs were created before the microwave. 🤦🏽♂️
And cook like one too 😩
You should take a tour of an industrial microwave. Dwarfs this puny CyberPunk.
@8:21 Scotty said you are going to have to clean this thing constantly, or it's going to look like a dirty refrigerator. At least a refrigerator is very cool!!
😊😊
I never thought Scotty would be referencing The Hitch Hikers Guide.
Douglas Adamms would be chuffed.
I love this guy. It's such a piece of junk, yet he gave it the most honest and nicest review.
I'm part of the CT owners group on Facebook. Every owner there is happy with ct
How would you know? You don't have one, never been in one.
wow, imagine being this stupid to think this is an actual "review" or honest
Scotty the roller door rear sounds like a rollercoaster going up the chain lift!!
Much the same mechanism on a smaller scale.
I do baggage conveyors for airports and that looks, sounds and pretty much is a security/fire roll up door lol.
One of my favorite episode. Thank you Scotty
There is a setting where it will ‘guess’ and automatically shift into drive, reverse, or park... but manual shifting is done by swiping your finger up for forward, or down for reverse, on the left side of the main screen. The light up buttons you pressed are secondary/emergency shift options.
Important tip: You actually changed gears using the emergency gear changer. The main gear changer is on the screen LOL
You have to change gears on the screen?
Yeah I was going to say, tell me you nothing about a Cybertruck without telling me you know nothing about a Cybertruck truck.
@@melissasaint3283 yea it’s on the left side of the screen. You basically swipe and down for reverse and drive.
@@matthewaldridge4567One look at the Cyber truck tells me everything I need to know
No you cannot be serious.
A durty refrigerator...killed me 😂😂😂
Towing 11,000 lbs is not the only use for a work truck.
