That first sailing yacht had some immaculate wood work. I have some raw mahogany that is at least 50 years old that my dad has had for years. He made many wonderful pieces over the years and I can only hope to make something wonderful out of the rest of it. Much love from the US🤙🏻🤙🏻
I enjoy your videos. I'm a poor, old, handicap person who couldn't even afford 1 foot of handrailing, but I laugh at what rich people do to complicate their lives.
Walmart recently gave their employees a 25 cents per hour raise, so now she has to sell her $99,000,000 super yacht. The world can be so cruel at times…😩
The whole thing with drones is just like DSLRs vs camera phones, places will tell you that you can't film with a DSLR but you can walk around all day with your iPhone filming and they won't say a thing. LOL
It's common in the US if you walk up to the fence of a shipyard or naval base security guards will come out and stop you from taking pictures. If you buy a ticket on a harbor tour boat you can pass the same vessels from the water side and take all the pictures you want. I was in a shipyard in the US supervising the construction of a commercial tanker. At the same time the shipyard was building a submarine tender. The yard had an area where they were lead lining bulkheads for the tender. The area was fenced in with covered fencing. If you stopped at the gate they'd chase you away. If you walked onto the deck of our tanker you could look down on the area inside the fence and could see the entire lead lining process. Bob

When an owner sells a yacht because they bought a new one does the crew typically stay with the boat when it’s sold or go with the owner to the new boat?
He has video on it, can't remember but I would guess it is up to owner. Also would think that some people stay with certain boat because of the technical knowledge in that specific boat. And then other people like captain follows owner more often.
We watched Khalilah get fitted out over two years’ time in Palmer Johnson’s former home, Sturgeon Bay. What a treat to see her again. And what a gangplank...classy a.f., right? Great video of what is truly a different world.

I hung out with a vacation yacht captain for several days in Myanmar. He was a Welshman, and the yacht he captained was owned by Abramahov. He told some good stories about paying guests. One about the #1 formula 1 driver. Another was about Rod Stewart & family. I asked him about odd requests. One guest wanted m&m's, each with his initials. Another wanted a particular type of cig, so a couple of crew had to go spinning off in a launch to visit several ports - trying to find that one brand of cigs.
I was fortunate to see yacht Meteor under sail off Cork coast during Ford Cork Week sailing festival. 2006 or 2008 I think it was... she was so majestic the image has stayed with me ever since

Love the Channel!! Palmer Johnson shipyard was in Sturgeon Bay Wisconsin. I loved going there to see their yachts in different stages of the build and in the water for sea trials. They would have the doors open at times so you could see them working on the yachts.
I saw when you walked by to the next ship you briefly pan back , and you caught just a second of him taking a picture of you on the corner of the screen, impressive timing at the same moment he had taken a picture of you, and then the other guy came out and they were talking in your direction
A drone can see things that a person on the docks cant. It can view the yacht from angles that are not normally visible and may be able to see through windows or open doors that do not normally have anti spying precautions in place because of their position.
I think some superyachts demonstrate the old adage that money can't buy you taste. Being a carbon hull, not sure you could actually plate it, but it would be 'easy' to coat it in gold leaf. Applying it and a few layers of clear coat to protect it would probably cost a few million, mostly in labor I suspect. On the plus side, it'd end up a good heat and radar reflector I think. Nice looking yacht though.
At current gold price ($1,840.oz), assuming a plating thickness of 1 micron and an area of 1,500 sq.m to cover, it would take $1.7 billion in gold (not including the actual plating cost). Don't know how hard it is to metal plate carbon fiber. Maybe some savings from not applying anti-fouling paint to the bottom?
That is only about 30 tons of gold. Probably not a big problem for weight on a super yacht. But it would be hard to maintain a coating that was only 1 micron thick. Waves, hail, even small flotsam would scrape it up.
@@swisstroll3 No a micron is a millionth of a meter, so 1 micron times 1500m2 is 1.5dm3. That's about 30kg, so the gold would cost $1.85milion with current pricing if plating was 1 micron.
@@danhunters8226 Even better. I just accepted the $1.7 billion value and calculated the weight to demonstrate that the yacht would not sink. Instead, it weighs practically nothing and costs little more than many yacht accessories.
Consistently interesting content. Isn't there a central data base for a yachts by names with ownership- super or not? Are you aware of any boat that was just difficult to sell, for w/e reason, including some aspect of its design?
Rich people are so funny about that stuff. They think everyone wants to be up in their business because of all the leeches that have come and gone out of their lives.
My best guess is the tech for drones is changing quickly. Not only can they film, they can emit. If they are concerned about drones they've seen some stuff and know the risks.
I’m a year late. However, the issue with Drones vs Cameras is Drones can carry FLIR and other sensors. That tech would allow the operator to see how many people were on board and/or see other hotspots that the owners don’t want revealed.

LOL You’re absolutely correct ! 1 million seconds is 11.5 days, whereas 1 billion seconds is 33 years.
One can buy an aircraft carrier (used) for 4.8 billion.
$4.8B, it could be coated in gold, regardless of whether or not it would still float.

They are sacrificed at the last party bbq 🍖
