Gunship! (Microprose, 2000) is an interesting game, simulator combat helicopters of the 90s'. There's a large array of weapons at your disposal, ready to relocate parts of the surrounding landscape.

I had the game when i was a kid but hadn't a clue on how to play it. Still pretty nostalgic seeing it on youtube though. simpler times....i sure do miss that whole decade.

Simpler times for sure. My dad would let me play this on his PC, had a joystick for it and everything. I used to love sitting there in his office at night playing this game

I can still remember playing the original Gunship on C64. When that Apache hovered into the screen accompanied by the tune of Wagner Valkyre (the same you hear in Apocalypse Now! when the Hueys attack the village).
I liked to clean the whole map, ignoring my mission and reloading & refueling several times, because you only had limited ammo, just as in real life. Getting the CMOH was the ultimate satisfaction. :-) Then later on C64, Amiga and PC Silent Service 1&2, F-19, F-117 Nighthawk, M1Tank Platoon & M1Tank Platoon!, Hunt for Red October, F-15 Strike Eagle 1-3, Gunship 2000 & Gunship!, B-17 Flying Fortress, Harrier Jump Jet. Fortunately you did not have to relearn each flight sim at least, because the keyboard mappig stayed the same. It just grew from release to relase, till every botton had like 3 functions. :-)
Oh, one funny thing i remeber of the C64 original Gunship. I had no manual and each time you approached your base to refuel you were asked a callsign by your flight tower, which served as a copy protection. You could only answer this if you had the manual for they asked words on a specific page of the manual. If you typed in the wrong word or none at all, the AA of your base started firing at you and you had to emergency land (shut down the engine and declutch the rotor) before they killed you, otherwise the game was over. If you managed to land on your base after all you could reload and reload, refuel, repair and then continue. :D
I had the manual. LOL But yeah, great memories for me too on the C64.
I wish games like this still got made today with all the advancement in PC specs!!!!!!!!!!!!

you might want to check out Helicopter Gunship DEX, I haven't played it but by just looking at it I can see that it's nearly the same game but with tons of stuffs added and a way more beautiful graphics

The old 28-32% torque glitch never seemed to get fixed. Such a shame. The clouds are actually volumetric, but you'll spend most of your time running into the ground. Fuck Hasbro.
Loved this game and at first it didn't work until I finally got a joystick to use and the rest is History. How this game will play on Steam and Windows 10 is another story.
GOG version works just fine on latest win 10

Such a good game
For those as confused as I am. The ORIGINAL game "Gunship" was from 1986, and featured flat shaded polygons with no textures. "Gunship 2000" came later in 1992 BUT still featured flat shaded polygons with no textures. As featured in the video in the description (th-cam.com/video/e5cs0qBopFI/w-d-xo.html) Other than the link given in the description, which states the game is called "Gunship!" (note exclamation mark in the title) as the third game in the franchise, but it is hard to find any information on it online. It is however listed as a microprose release on Steam. This was pretty hyped back in the day and there was supposed to be a tie-in title called Tank Platoon! that would offer multiplayer... but it was cancelled due to this games lackluster reviews.

I loved Gunship (Microprose in USA/Atari in Europe) when my old PC was on XP.
Are you playing (flying) Gunship on Windows 7 via Steam games or from a DVD?
If so, was it straightforward without doing computer gymnastics, or rather lots of troubleshooting?
Gunship is officially compatible on Windows 95/98, but ran perfectly on my XP.
Not so sure on Windows 7...

How do you have this running so well? I am getting 36 fps locked or something even after installing dgvoodoo and trying different things.

I don't think we used any special configuration. We played this on Windows 7 a few years ago IIRC
This had so much potential, but it was reduced to being some shallow arcade. I mean, if this had a proper weapons simulation and physics, it looked amazing.
This was one part of the proposed Electronic Battlefield, Microprose were developing. It would have included M1 Tank Platoon 2, as well as Falcon...would have been incredible!! Hasblo killed it all.....
@@iannock5948 It was to be paired with M1TP3 (re-named "Tank Platoon!") actually, not M1TP2... you can find a couple of screenshots out there and some marketing material before it was canceled. Yeah, would have been amazing. I've hated Hasbro ever since.
@@iannock5948 Forgot to mention: The new Microprose just hinted at a new Apache game coming out... let's hope M1TP makes a comeback as well. I really hope they just use the original engine rather than a completely new modern remake. I want to know what we lost.

Can anyone help me about the control settings ? There's no option for changing controls, and mouse sensitivity and inputs are astrocious. It's reversed by default and too fast, and usually i control the cyclic but sometimes i'm looking around the cockpit instead
Yeah... playing through emulation is hard...
@@Squakenet i figured out how to change mouse sensitivity, but i think this game is quite boring... there's isn't even ground collisions and the missions feel dull. I think Gunship 2000 is a far better game, even with lots of slowdowns.

I don't know if anyone can help me, I've been looking for a combat flight simulation videogame for years.It's very similar to this one, but it's not. The one I'm looking for is a green camouflage plane with a shark's mouth painted on it. There was background music and it took place in lush mountain ranges, or so I recall. The first mission was to destroy artillery. I don't have any more details except that I estimate it to be between 1995 and 2000. I was very young. If you have made it this far, thank you very much.

It was second ever game on my first PC. I cant even count hours I spent on it... Too bad I had a glitch (or what is it was) wgen you complete mission there was a window "Y/N" (that was a russian copy of the game, so I cant acrually recall what is it said back then) and game freezed in that window with 30% chance. Back then I did nit care abiut it - gameplay was just perfect.

Download DGVOODOO2 Extract the MS folder from dgvoodoo2 to your gunship folder.
Dont forget to set dgVoodoo as the rendered in game settings.

This is a poor game of Gunship with the Microprose label on it. Nothing like the original game.
