@@PeterFinnTheCarDoctor i tried to remove the right drive axle, BUT it cannot be removed, try every method including yours, but the shaft still stuck inside, what do you suggest or any better ideas?
Thanks for this video, Peter Finn. I have the Toyota 2001 Corolla, I replaced drivers left side half axle. Thanks again for this video very helpful to me.
The CV joints on these cars are an absolute pain in the ass to remove, Especially with the car on stands. Very nasty job, but neccesary in changing the clutch.. bastards of cars to work on for that.
On the right side axle what is that rubber bushing in the middle of the axle? Can you replace it ? I am asking because mine has seperated from the axle and i used tape to temporarily keep it in place
Hi Peter. Am really impressed by your amazing videos. I hope you can help me with this one. My corolla produces a funny sound when it it's in low gear and climbing a steep terrain. The funny sound is coming from the left side(my car is a right hand drive). Could there be a problem with axle?
Mr Finn You are so awesome, very detailed and explain it in simple easy steps. I wish i was living in the same city your shop is. By the way what city are you in. God Bless you for the Unselfish Service you provide to the car owners on repair and maintenance.
702Truee yeah im assuming it is a different issue, rattle is still there not as much with the old axle but with the new one the shaking is gone when im doing freeway speed, clicking nois when i take the foot off the gas is gone but the rattle is there and when it idles with the ac on it rattles
Another great video, thank you for sharing your expertise. I wonder why Toyota inserted that circular clip to make removal of the shaft from the gearbox so difficult. The Camry drive shafts slide in and out with ease, unless it has a missing clip.
I have a 93 corolla atm japan import, can i use USA drive shaft to replace my bad one? the import is right hand drive and USA is left. vin is AE100-003234 or AE100-AEHNK
Thanks so much Peter, I did this job last year with the help of your video. I've never done any mechanical work on a car previously but you made it look very doable, so I tried it myself. My mechanic checked over my work and approved of it, now my Corolla is running mint with 459,000 km on the engine.
You need crowbar, you have enough space to stick the curved side of the crowbar inside.Someone needs to hold the axle and pull it, while you hammer the crowbar and it will come out.Make sure crowbar sits right on the cut part of the axle.
How long does the whole job take? I have a 1991 Corolla and my mechanic says I have broken axel boots and should get them replaced. Do I need a whole new axel or can I just replace the boots?
.. Thankyou!! Iv'e seen a lot of your videos...I use a morgan knocker(slap hammer) to pop the axles loose..and move the control arm down and out of the way by disconnecting the ball joint where it goes in to the steering knuckle....any way thank you happy easter
You could loosen that 30mm nut while the tire is still on the ground. You won't have to stop it from turning because the weight of the car will keep it from turning. You can also use a hand held Impact Driver to loosen the nut.
hello, i have a werid thing on my 01 corolla. the driver side only, the axle is on a diagonal angle pointing backwards. I dont know why, the wheel has play. Help please! nothing seems broken or making any weird noises. i just got the car a few weeks ago
Question for you...you didn't mention anything about the seal between the axle and transmission. I swapped my axle and am now leaking fluid. Any information you can give me?
Thank you for a wonderful video, my 1993 corolla has an issue with the passengers side drive shaft. When l am taking off it produces a nocking sound on the hood and the gearbox seal is now leaking. can it be a won out axle please help
First axle came out within 2 minutes (longer axle) than it was time for the smaller axle which I thought would be just as easy…. Ended up tying a ratchet strap around the base closest to the trans and tying the other end to the middle of a handle on a hammer using that is something to pull… once it finally broke free I flew backwards
Hi Peter! Thanks for the video. Question, my car makes a noise when steering and pressing the gas on a big turn. What would be the main indicator that it would be my axle instead of some other part?
How can i prevent the wheel speed sensor ring from rattling loose on the front driver spindle after i have replaced the drive axel? It wont stay attached to the back ofthe hub
Peter Finn What was the original reason that made you change the drive shaft. I have a 91 AE92 which is pretty similar mechanically. My problem started as rotational whooshing noise but has started to be come a knocking sound. I am beginning to think that it is the inner coupling (Like a Universal Joint) reason is that it doesn’t make the clicking noise when on full lock, which would indicate a CV joint.
I have a noise on my corolla, like a sqeak but somtime with vibration. Shafts and coupling joints are all good, So I think it my be the bearings in the differential
Peter, I have leakage coming from my axles. My axles does not need to be replace (at least that is the mechanic said) but the leakage is being repair. Would that be the correct way of fixing the leak?
Hello Peter and thatnks for the amazing videos! Where did you buy that power breaker or break bar? Is it 1/2" or 3/4"? What brand is it? All I'm finding have joints that can break.
@@VopiscusGuitar i didn't find a solid one. I bought a 1 meter long arm with a "hinch or joint". It has a 3/4 socket and i haven't broken it yet. I don't know if Peters socket can slide on the handle, but i would try to find a sliding one with a 3/4 socket.

Why in the hell drain the engine oil and coolant?
I wondered the same thing when i read your comment, then he said he was going to take the engine out, then it made sense.
