Porsche 911 is reliable considering the performance and capability, however they have their quirks. The important things hold up, but little things break or don't function well...squeaks, rattles, noises, sensors, blah blah...personal experience owning 2 of them. You could probably thrash it around a track all day and it will be fine, but there's going to be weird noises that develop after a few years and maybe a faulty sensor. If you want reliability, a mass produced economic Japanese car is best.

True story. I was at a BMW dealership one Sunday so the dealership was closed. Well, a tow truck driver drove up pulling an older M3 coupe. He saw me walking by and he asked me if I was buying a BMW. I told him no and I was just looking because I walked over from the Porsche dealership next door. He replied that was good because he picks up too many BMWs that have broken down.

Modern Porsches are more reliable than BMW but Porsche are more expensive to service and repair as they are not manufactured in large numbers and their tolerances are much higher! Lastly no M3 is a competitor to any 911. They compete against Cayman models in the modern world. Look at the Ring times and see how many 911 models are on the list vs nothing from BMW in the top 50 times.
Lastly Porsche is only getting better as is evidenced by its reliability ratings. When you use 2010 its an unfair metric as it includes the old and the new 911. A 991 is not a 997!

I feel that bmw’s would most of the time be a daily driver vs a Porsche which mostly will be a weekend driver. The guy driving 30k a year vs a guy driving 3k a year of course will greatly throw off running costs so speculating reliability across the board is not accurate.

No surprise here Porsche has better reliability then BMW. Morden BMW's are not as reliable as the older BMW's I have always liked the BMW M3 but the best M3's are the E30, E36 European version and the E46. when the E90 and E92 come out thats when BMW got way to complex for its time and the styling was at a weak point . The F80 Is a very nice M3 its by far way better then the E90 in terms of styling, performance as for reliability its questionable this all depends on the person that owns one and how the take care of it.

Not entirely true while all cars have problems, BMW doesn't meet certain standards, I've had 2 99 Porsche Boxsters, and didn't have issues with them not that these cars won't have issues like all cars along the line it will have but no where near as regularly as BMWs, I've had a BMW E90 that developed every problem you can imagine in a 2 month period, something has definitely gone wrong with BMWs quality control, as at one time they set the standard for quality.

A 2013 318iX. The brake booster failed, we received a recall notice a few days later. The dealer claimed to know nothing about any recall and said nothing was wrong with the brakes, refused to accept responsibility for the accident caused by no brakes, the insurance rep drove it, said, NO brakes. Had to replace the brake pads at only 40k, constant electronic glitches. My daughter loves the car, we got it for her graduation from university. She wants a Porsche next and I don’t blame her. I have had three Porsche’s,a 911 turbo S, a 2004 Cayenne turbo, and now a 2019 Cayenne turbo. The 04 was an overweight gas hog but very reliable and amazingly comfortable to drive cross country. Traded it in with 220k on the odo. The 911 is a 997.2, never a problem.

Honestly right here from a guy that knows a lot of mechanics and thus knows what they think about cars you want a boring reliable car that's ugly and not very luxurious yet quite expensive and will last forever? Get a Toyota or Honda but porsche and bmw audi mercedes are generally quite expensive when they do break cause of the amount of tech that is put in them which makes them extremely fun and amazing to drive and ofc the awesome looks this even somewhat goes for volkswagen since they are better then most standard non premium brands so audi merc and VW will last in EUROPE gasoline engines since diesels pretty much go on forever that's 500k miles plus from vw or Audi at least gasoline 200-250k miles is the common limit here porsche and bmw 100-150k without major issues which is fine for most driver's of these brands honestly reliability wise they are allright

Honestly I still have a bmw 2003 745li, I agree its not as reliable due to the things that go wrong or the bunch of warnings I get on idrive but it never stranded me in the side of the road or suddenly broke down. I honestly can say I never towed it due to a failure in the car, even when the trans failed it went into a failsafe and gave me 3 shifts to get me to where I was going. And when the engine started to overheating due to valve stuck on close position it tooke where I wanted with reduced power so it doesn't overheat to a point that could damage the engine. And now I used it once in while because now I have the 2019 M550i and its amazing. But I still can say proche is a bit more heavy duty than a Bmw but I love bmw style

I own a BMW now, had Cayenne Turbo S in the past. Since we discuss facts: In 2022, Porsche delivered 34,801 cars from the 911 model line worldwide. Yet for 911 there are different versions. While M3 is a version of 3 Series, it is like 911 Turbo S, it's a particular version of the model. I didn't find precise sales data on M3, but in 2022 BMW M GmbH 177,257. Would be great to compare how may M3s are out there first, group by year ect. Same for repairs data. Otherwise, we are comparing apples to Oranges. As an outcome to see the percentage of repairs over cars sold. Question on comparing BMW model version again entire Porsche 911 model line remains open. On the other hand, it all depends on the maintenance and the driver(owner), at what circumstances the failure happened, you name it. Those two are top brands. Buy what you like, enjoy it and don't forget to service it, and by that I mean taking care of it, for example changing oil based on moto-hours, fuel it with high quality petrol, don't overheat... Every car has its weaknesses. However, you might be surprised how many people try to save a buck on maintenance and get to the repair service after that.

A Porsche will never go 300k-400k miles without a problem like a Toyota/Lexus thats why you can look up 1 million mile Lexus and 1 million mile Toyota. You cant find a good running Porsche with 200k miles that has not had engine work done.

He said "Modern Porsche are nearly equal to Toyota and Lexus" and that couldn't be farther from the truth. 1st modern Porsche cars have not been on the road long enough to make a claim of that caliber and 2nd Porsche tech and reliability has come a long way but nowhere near far enough to claim equal or near equal to Toyota/Lexus. I own two BMW's 2014 650i F12 and a 2015 328i F30 and i wouldn't dare try to put their reliability in the same ocean as my 08 Toyota corolla.

The key aspect that this video doesn’t mention is that yes while BMW may break most often from hard driving, repairs are not very expensive, when you compare it to Porsche. Porsche is a great brand that I have yet to own. But if you are a car enthusiast who will drive these cars hard, don’t get a Porsche unless you earn more than 200k salary. Because when it breaks it will literally bankrupt you. I don’t know much about Porsche’s warranty but my M3s and M2 have been top notch. I had a few issues and they were all covered and I had the car back in 2 days at most.

BMWs by experience have far less problems, but many none the less, certainly not as frequent as those of Porsche.
