Both Audi and BMW could address these issues; however, they choose not to until enough owners complain or file lawsuits. People keep on buying them because of styling and performance. However, the BMWs' new front-end bulbus kidney grill may turn off a lot of potential buyers.
I don't really like the notion of "buying because of styling and performance".
Like, I wouldn't buy a Golf over an A3, despite being the exact same thing underneath and cheaper, because the styling of the Golf is just absolutely dull to me. If we go deeper, wouldn't buy a Seat either, because interior quality is generaly not that great, although styling is ok, and thats a whole lot cheaper than the Golf even.
Its a very normal thing for people to buy what they like the most overall instead of the cheaper option, if they can, and to me thats downright a bit more normal than people who pick the cheapest option, but has the same engine as all the others, and then claim they can drop the extra cash they'd spend on the more expensive brand to do a tune or whatever. It's like they don't give a shit about anything other than how fast it goes.
To me, thats just out of this world.
I'm in the market for a luxury SUV and BMW was number 1 on my list for 5 years. Then I test drove it again. The styling, drive and price have changed and not for the better.
Guess the new BMWs might need a kidney replacement if they can find a willing donor.
I’ve owned BMWs in the past and now I have an Audi and I find the Audi less problematic than the BMWs. Also sources parts are a little easier and cheaper on the Audi as many parts are shared with some VW models, i.e the 2.0, 4 pot motor. The main common problem I’m finding with my last 2 Audis are the water pump/ thermostat which failed twice on my previous TT but hasn’t been an issue so far on my current TTS

I have a 2014 Audi A6 3.0 V6 prestige with 94k miles and have never had 1 problem with my car , just change the oil and service it at the dealer since I’ve had it no issues ever
lol it'd stay away from any bmw. unless its 1999 and older bmw. dont get me wrong audi isnt the best for reliability but still better than bmw.
Most people lease these vehicles because those who can afford them want a new one every few years therefore it makes no sense for bmw and Audi to build a vehicle that will last more than 5-6 years problem free.
Both beautiful brands, exhilarating to drive when not in the shop. Sad neither can improve their reliability.

I believe some of it is interesting too Al. They do make some of the best driving cars.
And maybe it's best I'm almost certainly going with Acura instead, which is already less expensive on MSRP anyway...

@@BumpTune8462 Obviously you have no idea what you're talking about. B5 A4 with 1.8T here, 325,000 miles on the clock. Easy to work on, fantastic engine, reliable, lots of power. Head has never been off the engine. Audi = 13 LeMans wins, BMW = 1 LeMans win. Audi bad engineering, huh? Go do some proper research before making dumb comments.
Ive had 2 Audi’s and haven’t had any issues with either. I keep up with the regular maintenance.

Audi is proven to be more reliable and has lesser maintenance cost since the parts are shared with VW.
I learned to avoid Audi and BMW and instead buy a boring loaded Toyota Camry or Lexus. If you want a Truck he is subtly telling you to buy a Ford F-150 at the end of the video by walking past four F-150's ... lol He even threw in a Toyota Tundra.

In Australia we have an Audi Q7 4M bought brand new in 2016 in and its proven reliable. The engine is 3.0 V6 TDI 200kw and its a bulletproof engine and it currently has around 90000km and still running strong.
I have a 2017 A 8 L just got 40000 miles no issues

Corporate greed and short term vision (quarterly earnings) are what made German cars junk.

I would just stick to what I know best about Audi because I know exactly the problems with them so I rather still drive a Audi over a BMW any day.

@@cjay1964 dsg gearboxes, if not regularly serviced but then again, that's owner negligence and oil consumption was usually caused by pcv valves, which is a cheap fix... This is on models 2012 onwards, after the ring issue was resolved
I hate my Audi … had an A3 and traded for 21’ A4 Quattro. The transmission is junk it’s too jumpy upon acceleration. I’ve never had that issue in any of my BMW or Mercedes products. Even when I’m in the loaners (Q5) the transmission does the same thing. Infotainment is beautiful but super glitchy. I finally had to ditch my other car it’s an F56 Mini. At 120k it started doing downhill, got an Acura and so far pretty happy with it
Reliability is a little like currency devaluation. When you measure currency by exchange rate with other massively devalued currencies, plummeting buying power is hidden. Same with comparing car brand and model reliability.
The solution: buy cars made in Japan 👍🏼

I’m assuming the newer A4’s are more reliable because the older ones were so bad that Audi was sued over it. Either way I’m glad to have a 2021 model and not an older one that’s a money pit.
It’s very funny when BMW fans compare the M2 comp vs the RS3, the M2 comp has the s55 engine which is in the M3 which compares to the RS5 which is a level above from the RS3. And they compare the 140i to the S3 while the actual competitor is the 135i. And the 140i is the actual competitor to the RS3.

Haha, nice. The RS3 is actually a lot of fun and the TTRS is my fave next to the R8. Anything with lightweight and high power is going to be a recipe for excitement
I would like to add my 2 Cents. I must be dam lucky as I own a 2013 BMW 640I convertible and never had a days trouble , the car has done 46 thousand kilometers

I have an 2018 Audi S3, no issues yet, at 61k miles. Take care of your car and it'll take care of you. Simple.
The S3 is a solid rig.

Can you do the same thing, if not done already, for SUVs. BMW. Audi, Lexus, Range Rover, Land Rover, etc
Good cars but both have major engineering flaws that will cost $$$ and reliability issues....VW group still hasn't figure out how to build a turbo without oil consumption issues that they keep settling in court and the DSG is very problematic after 50k...the BMW the problems sure endless

We all know old BMW’s crush Audi. But in todays world Audi is starting to keep their cars more reliable than the new BMW’s. And this is coming from a BMW owner/fan.

Don't get why people after the warranty period used an official dealer for any service. Any sensible customer will pick some specialist shop for particular brand/s. Period. The reason most dealerships employ less skilled mechanics than specialists ... (that dealerships charge the customer more while paying mechanics less than in independent skilled shops so they will get novices mainly) So comparing after the warranty period is not correct there is no point after warranty visit any dealership shop except very special case for exotics (Audi R8, Lambos etc. which is rare cars).
I do agree, and I have learned but I usually do my own work so the odd time I have to get it fixed it’s the way button since I have no rapport with local Indy’s. I have called a couple small shops and spot checked a couple samples and found pricing close to the dealer so I believe that the deals in this area are few and far between. Best solution is wrenching yourself.
I've had both Audi (A6, C5, quattro) and BMW (6 Series, E63, LCI), loved them both and they were pretty reliable.
Did u keep it past 120k miles? If not, very biased remarks.
@@troytruong8246 The A6 was past the 200k mark when I sold it in 2019. The 6 Series is still below 100k miles.
@@zsb707 I've had this discussion before with BMW owners. They always claim how reliable they are. Some even go as far as trying to claim they are as reliable as a Toyota.
The best way to catch them out is by asking them about repairs they've made. They will usually try to claim that it has been nothing but regular servicing and minor repairs. But when you get them to reveal more details about some of that "servicing", then it become apparent how unreliable their BMW actually was.
One guy even tried to tell me that him having to replace fuel injectors during a service is something normal.
But its clearly not intentional. People who own BMW or AUDI or Benz think their cars are reliable because they just don't know what its like to to own an actual reliable car.

268 Horse Power.
3 litre V6 turbo diesel.
Quattro.
Adjustable air suspension.
Quite frankly an astounding car.
We also used the A6 as an Armed Response Police car.
They are fantastic
If you want a driver’s car , go forBMW. If you want a Upmarket VW car, go for Audi.

Doing lots of driving in Colorado’s high country, absolutely nothing competes with the Quattro Drive…..During raging blizzards, i slow down to the posted speed limit….it holds the road like no other….

Pretty reliable since its using the 2.0 EA888. Like most luxury cars, the biggest costs will be failing electronics

Had both BMW and Audi brands and now opt for a Toyota or Lexus as they are kinder to my wallet.
Maybe the parts for the Audi might be cheaper as common parts with VW, Skoda and Seat

How’s the reliability with the RS5 with the B8.5 engine? I know it requires significant upkeep (ie. transmission fluid change, sport differential change, carbon cleaning, etc).
My sister had an A3 Audi diesel. Big mistake as she only did short trips which caused the diesel engine problems with its tech. General repairs and parts too expensive compared to Toyota, Honda etc. German tech is great I have a ZF 6 speed in my Ford Falcon G6E sedan but very expensive to repair or replace. Sadly Ford not making any vehicles in Australia now.
the diesels used to be great, during the 1.9tdi years. Now, even the more reliable ones still suffer from costly problems.
As someone who has owned both brands, the real answer is neither, long term.
Short term/lease Audi wins it from my experience

Well….
Obviously I drive a Q7.Misfires… none.Most 3.0T drivers don’t change ALL ignition coils when having their spark plugs replaced.When spark plugs are to be replaced, have new coils all round for a fresh ingnition system -no misfires.Engine codes, have an OBD scanner.Oil consumption, don’t wait for the so-calle 15k kms service. I do my oil changes between 7k-10k kms - depending on my driving style.Tire wear on the fronts (particularly the 4M Q7), rotate every 7-15k kms because majority pf the weight is on the front of the vehicle - Audi engineers didn’t think through weight & balance on this vehicle. Amazing comparo bud!

Maybe you need to learn how to take care of your car instead, there are plenty of Audis and bmws that have over 100k. 150k is where the challenge is

@@ftu2021 yep after going through heavy maintenance and repairs that ended up costing so much money that it would of been better off buying another vehicle . A better investment is a Toyota , Lexus , Honda ext less of a gas guzzler and they have way better transmissions than a crappy BMW and AUDI people buy those cars for the name and each year they looking worse and worse .
My S3 has been a reliable car, and the AWD is decent making it good for the kids. My problem with modern Audi is the painful welded suspension/ride and total drive by wire disconnection from the road. The 100% numb steering ratio changes by driver setting, so it’s like driving off in an amusement park car that has hilariously awful steering control and changes every time you hop in a different car. The brakes are grabby and hard to modulate. The throttle response is so bad it’s pure pain, taking seconds to move by throttle delay and turbo lag, then going nuts for a second or two after lifting up on the pedal. It’s the dead worst car I’ve driven in 40 years of driving a lot of cars as measured by a lack of any correlation between driver control input to delayed or different car response.

I think it depends how a person drives a car and the climate. I own an Audi Q5 and at most I drive 50 kmh within the city where the roads are nicely paved. I drive no more than 25 km a day, I'm gentle on the brakes and I don't surge unexpectedly. This type of casual driving is how most people with Toyota family cars drive so yeah, they'll last a long time. And even if my Audi needs repairs or parts replaced the costs will be based on damages from casual and not hard driving.
Driving technique is a factor but still a weak vehicle is a weak vehicle and a Porsche 911 for example can tolerate hard driving while a Toyota Camry cannot
I used to have a 2006 535xi and i consistently had some sort of problem at least once a year with it. Some expensive and some annoying. More than a few times, the problems left me stranded which is not convenient when you use it as a daily driver. When it was working, i really enjoyed the drive, but more often than not, there was always some nagging issue. I was second owner and had it from 64k to 276k km's. I sold it to a third owner running 100% fine for cheap and he was quite excited to get it. I also currently own a 2009 Audi a5 manual (i bought used at 124,000 km's), and in comparison, this car has never left me stranded. It's now at 320,000 km's and still running great. There's definitely been typical maintenance and repairs with it but nothing that was overly costly (unlike the e60 bmw). The biggest annoyance with the audi is that i'm getting a ton more rust spots with it now compared to the e60 bmw which throughout its life had zero rust. (I live in snowy salty pot hole filled roads in canada) It's pretty much my daily driver beater now for me with the rust showing and high mileage and i wouldn't mind picking up a new daily driver soon but this Audi A5 won't die. It just keeps going and going. I have sworn off bmw's and will stick to either audi's or lexus from now on.

Great video!!! I really wanted to see a comparison video like this! I still own an Acura TL 2005 with about 255000 km on it for almost 13 years and besides changing the broken transmission (150K-3000$ can), I’ve never had big problems. The vtec engine made me fall in love with 6 cylinder powered engines! My question is: on the long haul (10years or more and taking good care of my car), is Audi or bmw more reliable starting from 2019-2020 (340i and Sline v6) thanks!!!

My 2011 C200 CDI has had a new battery a new water pump and a module which controlled the lock on the steering column. Cost about 1100 English pounds. Do not think that is bad

If 2017 or 18 are indicators are would say it’s a no go for me with fuel leaks because poor welds in the rail, or their fancy pretensioned brake system that randomly locks up causing jarring stops and MMI and HVAC issues. Numerous electrical problems and the pedestrian warning sensors have been known to suddenly stop a vehicle while in a precarious situation such as making a long left turn across a busy intersection. I know many vehicles can or do have issues or some sort but there is just a bit much for me here.

This would be similar to the X6 in the video as it has the n55 engine which is not perfect but much better than the n54 before it. Coolant and oil leaks are possible and most common issues.
So is Mercedes any better than Audi I’m trying to decide between the two ? I like both the Q3 or GLA.
BMW X3M40i is bullet proof! Look at it for power and extreme reliability and power . And it has eco- green mode

Thanks Wayne. You are right, reliability seems to be lower on the priority pole for sure. For me the RS3, TTRS, R8, RSQ8 for Audi are vehicles I would seriously buy and BMW has even less but maybe the M5CS or Manual M3.

If by maintenance you mean replace fifty percent of the parts under the hood then maybe.

Hi David, these days probably Audi because the R8, TTRS, RS3 and RSQ8. I love the M3 bloodlines in general but the new grill just does not do it for me. Reliability is not even the question as both have serious potential for failure.

“ultimate driving machine” for a reason. From a drivers perspective, new technology, and overall driving experience BMW is the winner for me.
