This phone rocks. The mission of a snappy, quick, high performance phone is alive and well at OnePlus. There are no tragic deal breakers here. There are no critical missteps. The mid-season refresh for OnePlus this year delivers in all the areas we should expect from the brand. The only "issue" is more aggressive competition from other manufacturers. Where does the 8T fit into this market? Let's take a look!

#oneplus #oneplus8t #neversettle
Loved my 8t since launch day. Fast as hell, never slows down and the charging is mind boggling.
I have the 6t. Best phone I've ever had. And I still love it. Should I upgrade and get the 8t?
@@Jthall1990 hard to say because I've never had the six. The only downside to the 8T is the camera is barely decent.
@@EricFDrums that's just a deal breaker for me. I want at least a decent camera. So probably going for the pixel 4a. Thanks tho
@@Jthall1990 I came from pixel 3xl. The OnePlus camera is like taking pics thru a marshmallow in comparison.
@@Jthall1990 i upgraded from the op 6. the cameras are great for casual use
Finally a honest and well detailed review....
Not sure why most reviewers keep bashing the choices of one plus.
They were a sweetheart brand until they tried to go a little more mainstream.
@@SomeGadgetGuy They dared to try and compete with Samsung and Apple. That's from where the venom started.
17:31 XD
-Everyone else spitting hot takes and picking winners, while Juan is over here spitting straight facts!
That's what I like. Different style
Wow. I've seen a lot of OP8T reviews now. And this is by far the best! Thank you very much
👍
Indeed it's the best I've seen
12:32 props to you, I don't remember anyone mentioning the P9's monochrome camera as a night video advantage !!
Thank you so much for the Haptics conversation and that monochrome advantages
👍
Juan brings the best takes slathered in common sense. Keep it up Juan B!
👍
Best review I have ever seen, and not just because I have the 8t,I love the way you reviewed the phone, just honest and straightforward,I look forward to more videos from you.
Keep up the great work 👍
This is a great video! I like how it's really about the phone and not just based around specs thanks for that!
😁👍
This video is why I come here. You and Flossy Carter feel like the only tech reviewers that goes way deeper than just specs . And will tell the full story of a product.
OnePlus 8T is great. Especially since i got it on sale for 650 in black friday
i just wish it was a little more stock on the UI design
I love this phone. And every aspect that you broke down about the camera system is on point. BUT i do need to say that since the last update some NOT ALL of my latest takes seem to have a bit of blurring/fuzziness. I hope this is a temporary problem. And also, out of curiosity you didn't mention anything about it's Sound Quality. I was hoping to learn if this phone has any special Audio enhancements. Cause so far it holds strong connections with my Oneplus Buds, Sony WB400, and my Anker Soundcore Curves. The Dolby Atmos Movie and Dynamic settings are my faves. Anyway thank you Juan for another great Reality check. Cheers.
Coming over from the OnePlus 9 debate over the monochrome sensor, THANK YOU SIR for being informed about this. Finally! I wish more tech youtubers would take a minute to inform themselves. It is kind of unfair to smaller companies that major names with 10 million subscribers say that the monochrome sensor is only used in the last filter in the camera app *facepalm*. I wish OnePlus would communicate this in a better way, say, an informative video about what the monochrome sensor is doing on their phones. Monochrome sensors are also used in scientific cameras to reduce noise. I MUCH prefer clear low light shots than a telephoto sensor, since taking zoomed in photos requires a super steady hand (or tripod) to not turn out grainy even in the best of them.
My god... The levels of snarkiness taken to heights I can't even try. And all vaild points.
Finally a good OnePlus 8T review. I got the phone on day 1 and I kept feeling like "....what?" I usually always loved Juan's videos but today I found out he is INSANELY unbiased and really forward in thinking in a more realistic way than following the rest of the reviewers like another goat in thr herd.
Oh, I have my biases, I just try and tell people what they are so they know where I'm coming from. Keeps me honest LOL.
@@SomeGadgetGuy we all have our biases but your videos stay clean you don't shit on OnePlus because one of your phones is a tiny better more to your liking ina direct side to side companion. Or the fact that OnePlus is being less of an enthusiast brand because they wanna make money. Everyone wants money, talk about your raid shadow legends ad in the starting of your video (not you but in general)
It's nice to have a guy with real knowledge and common sense to review these phones.
I heard another review saying that sensor was a gimmick,a *throw away" camera he called it.
Hey Juan, are you planning to review the Asus Zenfone 7 or the 7 pro?
They do seem pretty good, and I'd like to know your opinions on them as well.
4:53 "miss touch prevention"
YES. FINALLY. Someone did it !
I had to turn off heads up notifications on my phone completely, due to this ://
Just bumped in to your video randomly, and really liked it man, subscribed!
👍
This is one of your best reviews yet !!
Glad you dug it 👍
Really like the way you reviewed the 8t. I've seen them all. I bought one, and your review was more strait foreword. Thank you . I'm subscribed.
Love how you review to the average buyer and not get carried away like the rest about specs. Most people use their phone for light games if any. Once they get to access social media , have a good cam and the phone itself is fast enough they will be quiet happy. Monst don't even buy a flagship or will buy a year old flagship as it is cheaper. Keep up the good reviews!
That skin is fire. I want for my s20.
Coming from an LG V30, I really wanted to give the One Plus 8T a try but not expandable memory and no headphone jack really is a deal breaker for me. I am thinking of waiting for the LG Rainbow (V70) to be announced soon. I fear though that it will we long and skinny like the velvet which I did not like in my hands. Thoughts?
I don't have a quick search gesture section, and my fingerprint icon is white. Why different?
Really great review, nice cuts to phone and great in depth explanation, I love how you went in detail about Oxygen OS perks that add up.
This review really helped on my final decision when moving to tmobile. Coming from a Galaxy S8, I was on the verge of paying full price for it and a week later tmobile started offering it for free because the OP9 was announced. The second screens from LG are tempting but this underdog should be a great daily driver.
Thank you for the reminders on the camera Juan. You reminded me to explore my Oneplus 6’s camera settings.
Wow! It’s like finding a new camera.
It gets a lot better when you really use it 😁
Great video! Have you removed the protective screen protector film that comes pre-installed on the 8t? If so, would appreciate some advice on how to safely do this or is the finger nail the only way. I recently attempted this but, stopped as I was concerned that perhaps it wasn't intended to be removed until I read other forums which indeed confirmed their need to feel the glass and free the phone!
Oh no I left it on. I really don't use any phone these days unless I can slap SOMETHING on the screen.
What happened to the photo chrome sensor. Wasn't it able to see through clothing or something?
Another good thing about the 8T is its the first OP as far as I know that supports other types of quick charging
What about that 1080p resolution? I'm used to quad hd or mid 400s ppi 1080 p displays so is the 8t plenty sharp in comparison or does text look fuzzy/blurry?
Extraordinary video and review man. Rich with detailed information as the phone user. Waiting for my OnePlus 8T this week, hope to have the snappy and clean experience of OxygenOS.
Best practical reviewer Juan !! your ardent follower from past 10 years !! ( Love from Pakistan !!)
😊👍
I must’ve watched 12 different reviews of the 8t and yours is the first (besides the actual first review that I watched) where I actually learned something new about the phone. Great video!
Spread the word 👍
This review is one of the best I’ve seen about the OP 8T No cap. You nailed it. Wish more reviewers were this intelligent.
This is a great review! 🔥
What pen/sylist5 are you using, and or what do you reccomend for the 8t?
What styluses are you using that are compatible with this phone? I understand that nearly all capacitive styluses work with just about any smartphone. However, it appears you are using a couple styluses that are resistive, and I would like to know which ones. I am coming from a Note to this phone, and would really like to be able to use a stylus going forward. I am aware I am still losing the WACOM functionality located within the S Pen, but I really just want a good resistive stylus to be able to do online signatures with. Thanks.
Easily my best reviewer on here. Much love from 🇳🇬.
👍
I enjoyed the video. Where i can buy the pen you are using? Thanks
How’s the camera from actual 8t users? A lot of reviewers say the camera isn’t good which is stopping me from buying an 8T.
Got one of these on the way! So excited!
Congrats on the new phone!
@@SomeGadgetGuy hah haven't got it hand just yet, but thanks!
4:13 I was honestly surprised finding that LG phones (G2, G3, and maybe even Optimus 4X ?) Had double tap to sleep, and it also works on the status bar !! Exactly like an xposed/custom ROM feature.
Needless to say, none of my friends and relatives with LG phones knew about it :/
I don't understand reviewers that claim wireless charging is make or break feature. The warp charger is included with the phone and its 3x as fast?? Why would you need wireless charging at that point ??
Hey Juan you convinced me to get an LG G8 about a year ago and I recently paid it off. I just picked up the google pixel 4a (5g) because I wanted to experience stock Android (which is the best thing ever imo) will we get a google pixel 4a 5G review?
My wife is setting one up as her main phone. I think I'll share her experience using it.
@@SomeGadgetGuy thanks bro! So far it's good , actually better than the G8 only cause LG hogs most of the resources but stock Android on a slightly less processor. Good camera , and software I'll say this is a steal !
I believe it. The 4a is a monster. Google optimizes better than any one else.
changing the cover of the cook feels like it could help as the older phones makes it appear and feel outdated even though it isnt
Great review pointing out the downside of spec sheet data not beeing seen for its use cases, i love your style of reviews and you make it much easier than other reviewers to make a practical purchasing decision, keep up the good work
Can use a pen on 8T????
I'm going from an op5 to an 8t, I think I'll be satisfied with the purchase. I just haven't gotten used to the prices of phones nowadays, especially here in Brazil.
Thanks for the tip from the cameras, when I get mine I'm going to test it, really all youtubers speak very bad about the camera.
Juan, off topic here, what's your opinion on the 2021 LG V series, do you think they'll get rid of the of the notch and opt for a punch hole? Will they likely to be using a high refresh rate screen this time? What are your thoughts on this?
I never understood monochrome sensor.. Does it work separately or in tandem with the main sensor? And if together how can a 48mp sensor gain any benefit from a tiny 2mp sensor?
What resolution is FHD video?
@@SomeGadgetGuy it's just used for enhancing videos?
Would be interesting for 12mp monochrome to go with 12mp main sensor or something, then we would see the best low light photography ever?
Finally someone not jumping on the suddenly popular bashing OP because they are moving away from core enthusiasts (duh, of course that would happen in the long haul) bandwagon.
More nuanced conversations about smartphones like this please.
It's annoying. Like techies crying "b-b-b-but it's NOT FOR ME ANYMORES?!?!?!"
Is op8pro Worth the extra money over 8t?
I love you man. Perfect review and description. A lot of fake uneducated tech reviewers are ruining TH-cam. Even mkbhd dissed 8t for not having wireless charging. It's so stupid. He considers his problems to be important rather than consumers. Battery life takes a hit. He will switch phone next week, not us. The only reviewer I trust now is you.
A few of us about that like to have these kinds of conversations. We can ALWAYS use more help sharing.
Love Juan's openers!!!
Really great review as usual thank you. Really interesting to hear your personal in depth informed perspective.
Cool video!! Very intresting and well made. I was wondering if the cellphone has ever overheated or if in general there has been excessive heating during your use. Does the phone dissipate heat well or it suffer of overheating? Thank you
Which stylus you're using?
What a great review! Excellent work. You've got yourself a new subscriber.
I already got my 8T (upgraded from 6) and couldn't be happier. I mostly use the camera on nice bright (sunny even) days and it does an phenomenal job.
Got a nice deal from China for around $580 ... it was a no brainer.
128 or 256 gb ?
@@hamletgolucky3628 128, I don't mind deleting the photos and videos frequently (meaning once a year or so)
I like it! 😊 Can't wait to get my hands on one to test out. thanks Juan great job👍
Would this be worth it to swap to from an s21plus?
It really depends on what you use your phone for. Going from 2020 to 2021 phones, I don't think we see the same overall performance improvements, so of you're shopping, you really want to be specific about how you use your phone.
So it uses the monochrome sensor during video? Just making sure...
Hi juan amazing vids and review as always . Where can i buy a decent used lg v60 that could ship outside US and canada . Tnx
I find it interesting, im switching to this phone from the Samsung Galaxy S9 which I got Christmas 2018, it only has one camera, but here we are only two years later and it has basically become standard to implement multiple cameras on a flagship phone. Great video as well! I also saw you using a stylus, is there any benefit to that?
Not really? It's just fine point and sometimes it's nice to not block the screen as much, but it's not like getting a note.
@@SomeGadgetGuy Thanks
Thank you for giving a non-promotional review . Thank you for comparing other reviewers too
Did you have a better experience with the 8T than Note 20 Ultra?
Not better but different. I wouldn't put those two against each other on any meaningful way outside some basic performance comparisons.
"Early camera reviews on OnePlus are never accurate for long, and never reflect the long term reality of living with one."
He's right ya know.
2:53 the dot morph is a lollipop era animation 😅 hard to notice when the dots are small, oneplus made the dots large on their launcher
This is the review I needed for my purchase decision. Now sir do you have any suggestions for a budget (below $300) 1080P projector that would work for Powerpoint Presentations in normal indoor lighting?
LOL wish I could help there. Don't know much about projectors unfortunately.
Awesome review, what's that game at around the 8:00 mark?
Implosion. I love that game.
@@SomeGadgetGuy thanks! Also the monochrome sensor, I'm a bit confused. Does OP use it to help night mode photos and videos?
That game at 17:00 looks so cool too, what's that? Any other game recommendations? Do these run at 120hz
Yes. It's kinda like the old Huawei dual sensor set up. Main camera takes the shot, the monochrome helps "paint" in more light and detail like a filter.
@@SomeGadgetGuy wow that's actually pretty useful. All the other reviewers were calling it useless as if it's only for black and white shots. Very good information. How do you take a video in night mode? Thanks for answering all these questions :)
i love this phone but i wanted to ask you something, and fellow 8T users. one weird thing ive noticed that when im watching a video the black bars on the side, the one on the top where the hole punch is has a very very verryyy faint grey gradient thingy instead of being pitch black how amoled should be. Does anyone else have this?? i dont think this is black crush or anything but this is weird
What web browser is used 5:42 where the search bar is at the bottom of the screen?
Firefox. I switched a couple years back. I love it.
You didn't talk about the speakers
COME ON
Wow. Excellent review. You just got yourself a new subscriber. 👍
Thanks for your review. I am getting the 8T for Christmas. I am currently using a 6T. I use my phone mainly for watching videos, social media and work. I loved the content of your review and how you praise the phone. Shall be following you now on other social media sites. Take care.
Another comment on this video was acting like I was saying the 8T was a replacement for the 8Pro. That was a special kind of silly...
I think your jump should feel like a NICE upgrade. Congrats on the new phone.
@@SomeGadgetGuy thankyou in advance. Got to wait another 3 weeks.
Love this review! Thanks for this video, gave me a clear picture of what 8t can give. 👍
I decided on getting the 7 pro from last year because it’s at the real budget price of $445 for 8 ram 256 gig. Coming from a iPhone XS Max specifically for the past 2 years has been great but oxygen os isn’t bad when I do compare it to iOS. I do admit the camera on the iPhone is better.
can you help me with these things?
1. recommend a laptop/computer youtube channel or website
2. what are your thoughts on huawei smartphones?
3. would you cover nokia 8.3?
Man I love this, at least you are honest, thank you for doing an honest and fair break down of the phone
I'm seriously considering this to be my next phone when my V30 finally kicks the bucket, but I'd love for someone in the youtube techsphere to report on it's audio recording capabilities, both in the camera and just audio though a recorder app. Can it passably record a loud band rehearsal for later review, as I often use my V30 for that purpose and would be bummed out if the OP distorts the audio on recording, or just plain sounds bad.. unfortunately all reviewers seem to skip testing that, seem to remember that Juan used to back in the day?
Sincerely, it's a great review. I received my new 8T two weeks ago. And I've been playing with the camera, wich it was supposed to be the weak point of the phone. And that was not the truth, in fact I though what unfair reviews I previously saw. And I am coming from premium models year by year, so I think I know how to compare.
At the very beginning I noticed some sort of inconsistency in white balance, but after the last update it has been mostly solved. Anyway, it was nothing that couldn't be corrected through the integrated gallery app.
Thank you for giving the review this phone deserves.
Drives me nuts how people get lazy on OP cameras. There's always a little funkiness, but theyve been solid options lately.
Awesome review! So spot on about the camera. Coming from using previous Pixels, have a v60 and ally he current updates to the camera off my 7t, this phone does fine in the camera department. I picked this up off tmobile on promotion, so half off for me, traded in an older 6t. Can't complain.
"Uhhhh well akshully if you look at this other popular influencer, he took poorly composed HDR samples of a fire hydrant in harsh noon light and you could TOTALLY tell by the pixels how the OP camera was inferior."
-Some random SamApple Stan.
This is one of the best review for the 8T if not the best. I agree mostly on the points.
Why would you need a wireless charger if you have a super fast wired charging which most of the reviewers even say as a deal breaker
Also regarding the cameras, I also agree. My OP 3t's camera can still compete in today's standard due to the software updates. Also MKBHD's blind camera test proves that camera outputs differ and it's up to the user on what output he/she likes.
Also agree on comparing prices with the RAM and storage options saying the 8t is closely priced to the s20 FE and IP12.
They should have removed macro and add AF to ultrawide sensor to enable it to take macro photos. It would make more sense and make OP 8t have better cameras.
Finally a reviewer that actually thinks that fast charging is better than slow wireless and don't treat it as a deal braker.
Also I agree on point about Sony's take on battery saving, I wish OnePlus would add something similar to improve battery longevity.
Ano mas ok realme x50 pro or oneplus 8t?
Very informative video! Really enjoyed it! Keep up the good work.
This video made me decide to get an OP 8T 8/128 at 520 usd. It is a huge upgrade coming from a 5 year old phone (galaxy A9 pro). Thank you.
Congrats on the new phone!
Ordered one from Best Buy for $599 yesterday and I can't wait. Thanks for the info
Congrats on the new phone!
Would love to see OP release a 5 or 5.5 inch bezel less punch hole camera camera smartphone with 700 series chip, FHD+ screen with 120Hz screen.
You continue to amaze me with the commentary of the smartphones 🙌 I really was underwhelmed initially seeing other reviewers, making me feel that s20 FE is better..
And the main point I'm making, the FE is still a great phone you can find on awesome sales, but that doesn't take away from what makes the 8T an interesting option.
@@SomeGadgetGuy absolutely! This video did make me realize how good of a phone 8T is as an overall package 😁 other reviewers should focus on details like how you pointed out about the notifications on gaming mode n other software features and the camera details unlike any other reviewer.. Its these that diffrenciate with the competitors unlike just comparing the hardware.. I'm excited where Oxygen OS is headed..
Honestly oneplus is the only manufacturer where I see myself upgrading it every 2 years. My 6t is still a champ. Lol
Yup! There was another comment on this video. where someone was acting like I was RECOMMENDING he flip an 8Pro for the 8T. That this was the replacement. I look at the 8T (as it's the proper successor to the 7T), and the upgrade here might be for someone retiring an OP5...
@@SomeGadgetGuy 2.5 - 3 years is a sweet spot for upgrading your OnePlus.
I still have my OnePlus 3T and it's amazing! Super fluid and fast as hell! I miss the camera, that the auto-focus doesn't work anymore D: I'm gonna buy the 8T without a doubt!
Bloody awesome review ! You have way more knowledge than some of those "other" lazy reviewers out there ! Thank you... Especially loved the macro and monochrome rant.... funny and informative all rolled up in one ....
5:10 I too miss the notification ticket from Android 4.x, it was so good :))
Some custom ROMs/mods can bring it back
If you buy a carrier model from T-Mobile it does have an IP rating. Of course you have to buy a carrier model which is not ideal.
Very mature review unlike others who try scoring different phones together and picking a winner all the time!
Another excellent review Juan. I suppose Oneplus will be taking the place of LG in my phone rotation, if LG dies off as I fear.
Juanito my man! Outstanding! Way to smack down the 8t nit pickers 👍🏼
Felt it was worth a conversation.
Still missing lpddr5, I bought s20 fe 5g only cause 1+8T didn`t add that important tech
Hmm i am not a fan of bumping up the storage to compare prices.
If possible i would buy a 64gb version from the 8t 🙂
I use cloud services so i don’t need more.
