Chris, this is by far one of the most in-depth reviews that I have seen of this device. Many reviewers just go over the specs which doesn't help much. I live in India and bought the 12GB variant for 609 USD. The Indian variant of Samsung S20FE, just like many other Samsung flagships, comes with a Exynos processor which steers away a lot of Indians from the brand. So I guess, 8T was the right choice for me. I really feel Oneplus should give a slow charging feature like the one on Asus ROG 3. Would be very handy. I really haven't seen the Optimized Charging at play. The phone charges at normal speed even when the feature is turned on. As Oneplus has claimed the 65W charging brick is backward compatible, other Oneplus phones that don't support 65W charging can be charged with it. I wanted to know, if the 8T can be charged with a 20W charger, that was shipped with my 3T? I had an online chat with a OnePlus care executive who told me it isn't safe to charge it with a 20W charger, which I find ridiculous. Is this true?
@Shantanu Mistry Yes, I'm more than satisfied. The only reason I didn't go with the 8 Pro is due to the curved display, which isn't my taste. It sure looks good but no. Also the 8 Pro has display issues which a lot of users have complained about. You can find such videos on TH-cam. I guess 8T was a safe choice for me.
@Shantanu Mistry If money isn't problem, 8 pro is much better phone. I'm using it currently, and have also Oneplus 8 and 8t for couple of days. 8 is battery champ, and its very compact, 8t have pretty visible bezels around screen, have great refresh rate (not too much different compared to 90hz, believe me), overal great build and it's snappy like all Oneplus phones, but.... Cameras are not comparable to 8pro, very visible quality difference. I'm very very pleased with 8 pro cameras quality, and i cannot say that for 8 and 8t. Overall very good phones all three but, 8pro is class for itself.
@Shantanu Mistry My display is perfect, i live in Europe maybe it's different batch from Indidan. Here its IN2023 model. No ghosting, no green tint, except very special scenario with one tone of grey and lowest possible brightness in pitch black room, there is some kind of greenish tint, but i never ever use phone in such circumstances. You have to try hard to see that green tint. I don't know how indian units are, maybe worst but i doubt, it should be same quality control for all regions.

The OnePlus 8, 8 Pro and Nord did have preinstalled Facebook and Instagram along with their underlying background services, the latter of which cannot be uninstalled normally. Great to see OnePlus knowing users didn't want those preinstalled, but OOS 11 still leaves a lot to be desired in my own experience, it's just more the animations don't feel as natural as pure stock Android 11, like on the Pixel phones.

Thanks for the great in-depth review! I don't really see how "hotter than other phones in gaming" is a con, that is, without mentioning the pro of "no gpu throtteling during gaming". Namely, the temperature of the phone ultimately boils down to the power draw from the SoC, as the phone temperature directly represents its heat dissipation. Therefore, other phones can only run cooler due to reduced power consumption, either due to thermal throttling or a less powerful SoC. Moreover, the OP8T seems to do an okay job at avoiding hot spots, so heat dissipation seems well optimized. IMO, it is good to see that the OP8T allows the SoC to be used to its full potential, thus with maximum power draw.
It's minor but other phones are a good 5-6 degrees c cooler. Same game. Same SoC, same 1 hour gaming. And remember I had no case on it. So with a case I can see it hitting 55 degrees c or more.
@@Techtablets Yes, so that means that the other phone must have been power throttling. The OP8T can only generate more heat if it is consuming more power, it cannot generate heat/energy out of thin air. Vise versa; you can only achieve lower temperatures by lowering power draw or by enhancing heat dissipation across the chassis. Again, it should be mentioned here that the OP8T should do an excellent job on heat dissipation considering its elaborate cooling setup (thermal paste + vapor chamber). I just quickly checked your review on the S20FE; its temperature is 10 degrees lower across the entire phone while using the same SoC. That implies 30-50% less power draw from the SoC. It would be interesting to monitor the CPU and GPU frequency during the gaming test. It's hardly an impressive feat to achieve lower temperatures when the SoC is being choked.

Hey Chris , Oneplus 8t for 625€ vs 7t pro for 550€ , what do you think ? Is there a big difference between 855+ and 865 ? I think the 7t pro is much better in every other way and it's cheaper
Not just cameras turn out to be a big blow at this price segment but also miserably fails to maintain its reputation of providing its users a buttery smooth experience! First of all, the newly updated native OnePlus Phone or Dialer & Msg appshave been replaced with those of Google! Why on Earth I need it! And a very few reviews disclose about it! Secondly, there are nuances when you feel something is missing! The audio quality is just fine not that great despite the stereo speakers! However, the performance was top- notch! Cameras are a little better than those in OP7t ! Still the latter is a far better option!! May be next time, we would be provided with substantially good rock solid piece of tech in all aspects!
I can do it all the time. It's likely others just didn't see it. Edit: just to add its more on the ultra wide and in bright sunlight it happens. If you don't pan it's fine
Well your right the imx 586 was used on ths OnePlus 7,7pro,7t,7tpro,8,8pro and now the 8t that's on 7 phones , it's a 2year+ sensor and companies should stop implementing macro and depth sensors, saw someone wanting a 12mp macro sensor, personally the best well rounder cameras from OnePlus were from the 7pro,7t/7t pro and the 8 pro. Edit would love to see an SD card slot on OnePlus flagships, that would be epic.
Weird question, why isn t the full screen feature working if I pick a video on the home menu, but If I search for it,It works.Just got the phone and it feels a little weird
I can confirm that the freezing issue in chrome is due to oxygen os. It has been like this on my OnePlus 6 for quite some time now. A few of my friends also experienced this on their 7 pro
Chris, please... it's 577€ + 15€ shipping and 4% fee for PayPal, so 615€ and not even 100€ cheaper + you need to wait 2 weeks and get CN charger. 5G is not fully supported, no N28 which means no Vodafone. If you buy it from your pocket, how TS can be the sponsor?
For me Snapdragon GPS is becoming unacceptable, as there are much better results from even budget Mediatek chipsets like G70/G80/G85. When will Qualcomm update their GPS stability and accuracy?!? And hopefully they can do that by software update for their older chipsets...
@@Techtablets yes, I heard that as well. Just they are loosing against competition, when Dimensity comes (cheap) to Western markets or other manufactures getting below 1m accuracy using GPS/Galileo and correction service (f.e. Exynos and Kirin).
how big of an issue is ram management as of now? anyone still having problems with that? cuz i'm considering upgrading to this phone from an iPhone 7 and bad ram management is a deal breaker
Good one, again, so ..big, big LIKE!!! In short, it's not a bad phone, but it's definitely not a good one, either. Considering the official price in Europe, approximately 600 - 700 Euro, I think it still has many things to optimize to deserve this price. Only the software does not justify this price at all. And if the problem with overheating is confirmed, then even a software optimization can't solve it. Returning to the price, I dare to express a wish, to not make a comparison between OP 8T and Mi 10 Ultra or Mi 10, Mi 10 Pro. At least in terms of photography and filming, this OP 8T is already "total damage" compared to those mentioned above. All the best and I look forward to the next review ...
Doesn't work properly when using Google Drive. Whatever files, images and folders you update at Google Drive, stays stagnant in 8T, very disappointing. Try to complaint but not avail or no respond.
Chris, there is a function that I absolutely need on an Android phone. This will be a tie-breaker between Samsung and the OnePlus. Can you tell me if either the Samsung or the OnePlus has a SEPARATE notification volume slider? I don't mean Media or Ring volume, I mean Notifications only. This has been a common complaint since Google removed it starting from the Pixel 3 and on, but 3rd party manufacturers can still add it.
Love this phone but since here in the states u can get the oneplus 7T for $450 from oneplus. I just don't see the reason to upgrade to this for $300 more 😬 plus I think the cameras are just as good, maybe better considering it has a legit zoom lense.
The white navigation bar on the black screentest is very intrusive. Is there any way to turn it off? MIUI tried the same thing, but thankfully it can be turned off (no on-screen indicators). If that's what Android 11 can offer, im kinda worried.
If you have a OP phone and want to take pictures, do yourself a favor and download the Gcam APK. A lot of the issues that the stock camera app has will not be present with Gcam.
Damn Chris another solid video, great that you got your sleep and reuploaded the video😂 Loved it, I might buy the one plus 8t just because of you. (Although I hate the fact it doesn’t have a Headphone jack) will upgrade from the poco f1. because its the only phone in India which is close to what i need, the mi 10 T pro dint launch here with the 256gb variant :/ and the s20 fe i the exynos variant in india 😓 For anyone interested the one plus 8t is $584/443 pounds/492 euro for the 8/128gb and $624/474 pounds/526 euro fpr the 12/256 gb model. the mi 10 t pro is $543 for the only 8/128gb model, and the mi 10 t range kicks from at $488 for the 6/128 mi 10 t.
Better to get this than the Exynos S20 FE defiantly. Install a good GCAM port once out and you should be set. OnePlus will no doubt soon fix those bugs I talked about it once the firmware matures a solid phone.
Anyone noticing heating up when using Amazon app after the os update 11.0.2.3 ?? It is getting heat up massive only when Amazon app is open/under operation
@TechTablets, I'm confused between Galaxy S10 Plus exynos version vs OP 7Pro vs OP 8T. I don't play games on my mobile but I'm a hardcore user. Plus I want good camera phone. I considered getting S10 plus because of its camera and looks but the exynos scares me. Please let me know your thoughts on it :)
I have my S10+ still and it's great SD855 version. Still its cameras are great and better than the oneplus 8t and 7 Pro. Especially front video and rear video footage
Oi mate, you have posted a very in depth review of the phone. The voice sampling and the stuttering of the video actually let's us know the quality of the sensor.
The OnePlus 8T is in such a weird place given the rest of their phone lineup. They have to give people an incentive to switch to the OnePlus 8 Pro, being the camera. Otherwise, the OnepPlus 8T is the superior phone given the price.
Paul in Ireland for what you get for the price there has to be trade offs and sure the cameras are behind the competition but they aren’t that bad. I’ve seen way worse. But I agree if they up their camera game they would be hard to beat especially around this price point.
@@justanugget4844 I agree, I've still got my OnePlus 7 pro 12gb ram version and there isn't another phone to touch it in terms of performance but the camera is crap.
No, as long as you buy the phone from their EU stock (they have a choice with China). They do flash sales and free gifts and generally cheaper than buying from your local source.
Great detailed review. Everything looks reasonably good but the camera is a disappointment. Considering they've been using this sensor on the OP8 with the same processor, It shouldn't really need any tweaks. A minor problem with importing is Hydrogen OS instead of Oxygen OS
Because of the overly aggressive RAM management, Google has effectively turned my 8GB RAM phone, into a 3GB RAM phone. It barely keeps anything open & I'm not happy about it. This is quite a matter IMO, & Google need to be hammered on this issue. I payed for 8GB's of RAM, not 3! Also, I use my phone to help in learning a second language. Vertical Recents was a big deal to me. It allowed me to see previous lines of text from previously open apps, instantly with 1 button press. Helpful in learning another language. Everything went to hell for me when Android forced Horizontal Recents. Flipping between language apps became so much worse. Counterproductive.
6:25 My chrome does that too, if u look at recent comments and reviews on the Google play store you can see other people are having the same problem. I personally have the Black Shark 3.
Disappointed with the direction oneplus is taking and actually can see why Carl Pei left. The never settle moniker is just super ironic given everything about this phone settles. Very average ultra wide, sub par night mode, stupid pointless macro lens, jerky video, Samsung like OS now. Boring huge slab, not a single normal sized phone in Oneplus's entire range. Just all screams average to me now. And this is sadly kind of the way oneplus is going now. In the past would have been excited by a new oneplus release but this just didn't land at all. I even took a hit on CPU and screen and grabbed a pixel 5 with free Bose QC 35 II headphones for £599 in the uk as the deal was crazy and overall I still think the user experience and camera is better on pixels.
Strange i have exactly the opposite observation on the heating up during gaming. It is way cooler than my iphone xs and it stays around 38 max 40 C all the time for me and i play graphically intense games. Keep in mind the game devs have to optimise their games correctly and sometimes its not the phone and its software/ hardware related ,but the game itself. My iphone were heating mad while playing arena of valor, suddenly at one point a patch dropped and i never saw this phone heating up again while i play AOV.
Terrific review Chris! Liking OnePlus 8T so far, despite the cameras! Cheers from Hong Kong!
Yes a solid phone, soooo quick and smooth everything. They just need a few more tweaks to the cameras and bug fixes

@@Techtablets it's not that bad now. If oneplus fixed white balance it would be pretty good.
Hi Chris, great videos.May i know have u used oneplus 9? If yes then what are u preferred between op9 and op8t? Thanksss.
Hey Chris , Oneplus 8t for 625€ vs 7t pro for 550€ , what do you think ? Is there a big difference between 855+ and 865 ? I think the 7t pro is much better in every other way and it's cheaper
I think this one. 855+ to 865 not much of a difference in real world use especially using OxygenOS
Is it better than the op8pro?
And secondly, it's chrome because same thing happens on my s10+
8 Pro is better
Should I buy the pro or the 8t I prefer a big screen is the pro speakers as loud as the motorola edge +??? Please somebody let me know thanks
Will there be a global version ?
I`ve seen a lot of video reviews of 8t, and nobody experienced that video stuttering. Any updates on that?
Edit would love to see an SD card slot on OnePlus flagships, that would be epic.
for using which one will you choose s20 fe or 8t?
Answered this at the end of the video but S20 FE for it's better cameras and video. But if you want the best speed and best UI experience the 8T
@@Techtablets thanks for answer
Can you tell me the name of the sword fighting game in the review, I know you mentioned it in the video but didn't really hear it clearly
Grimvalor
@@Techtablets thanks
9:44 does Netflix 4k work or just 1080p, you said "supports full HD and you aren't stuck at 1080p," I think they're the same thing...
He said you aren't stuck at standard definition, wich is 480p.
Do you think that the 8t is really close to the 8 pro except that the 8pro has the better cameras and a little bit better display?
Can you please tell me what app you used to check screen whiteness/darks. Thank you
Weird question, why isn t the full screen feature working if I pick a video on the home menu, but If I search for it,It works.Just got the phone and it feels a little weird
I can confirm that the freezing issue in chrome is due to oxygen os. It has been like this on my OnePlus 6 for quite some time now. A few of my friends also experienced this on their 7 pro
Oh really so it's been around for a while. It's true my S20 FE or the others I haven't had it freeze up on me. Hopefully it's fixed asap
@@Techtablets a very quick fix when this happens is just to lock your screen and then unlock it again. Quite a weird big I Know :3
@@Techtablets switch to Android Webview Beta
Freezing issue in chrome is in asus rog 2 also.
I've seen this on a Pixel 4 XL too. I think this is a Chrome bug.
Yes I remember somewhere reading it was some law that it couldn't be more accurate than 3m for US chip companies like Qualcomm. That needs to change.
@@Techtablets yes, I heard that as well. Just they are loosing against competition, when Dimensity comes (cheap) to Western markets or other manufactures getting below 1m accuracy using GPS/Galileo and correction service (f.e. Exynos and Kirin).
@@U_H89 Just curious, for what do you need such accurate GPS?
how big of an issue is ram management as of now? anyone still having problems with that? cuz i'm considering upgrading to this phone from an iPhone 7 and bad ram management is a deal breaker
Thank you SO MUCH for even checking the GPS. It's what most reviews miss. Instant-subscribed.
Hey does this phone have pre installed Facebook bloatware like the 8 series and nord ?
5:32 I think u can enable DC dimming in the settings under OnePlus Laboratory. At least on the OP7Pro
It's missing so far on this phone
Love this phone but since here in the states u can get the oneplus 7T for $450 from oneplus. I just don't see the reason to upgrade to this for $300 more 😬 plus I think the cameras are just as good, maybe better considering it has a legit zoom lense.
Of for that price yes the 7T all the way and you have the optical zoom as you said. A no brainer.
Did they fix all those Judder by software update?
Sadly no still present a little.
Doesn't installing gcam from google stores fix the camera issues
I measure sure not fully but by a decent margin?
The white navigation bar on the black screentest is very intrusive. Is there any way to turn it off? MIUI tried the same thing, but thankfully it can be turned off (no on-screen indicators).
If that's what Android 11 can offer, im kinda worried.
Yes it's annoying I'll have to dig around and see if I can remove it.
If you have a OP phone and want to take pictures, do yourself a favor and download the Gcam APK. A lot of the issues that the stock camera app has will not be present with Gcam.
Damn Chris another solid video, great that you got your sleep and reuploaded the video😂
Loved it, I might buy the one plus 8t just because of you. (Although I hate the fact it doesn’t have a Headphone jack)
will upgrade from the poco f1.
because its the only phone in India which is close to what i need, the mi 10 T pro dint launch here with the 256gb variant :/ and the s20 fe i the exynos variant in india 😓
For anyone interested the one plus 8t is $584/443 pounds/492 euro for the 8/128gb and $624/474 pounds/526 euro fpr the 12/256 gb model.
the mi 10 t pro is $543 for the only 8/128gb model, and the mi 10 t range kicks from at $488 for the 6/128 mi 10 t.
Better to get this than the Exynos S20 FE defiantly. Install a good GCAM port once out and you should be set. OnePlus will no doubt soon fix those bugs I talked about it once the firmware matures a solid phone.
@@Techtabletsyup, damn those exynos processors.
6:28 You Would have updated Chrome and System Webview
Close ram boost setting off and you are good to go!
Thanks for this review Chris. Was almost going to upgrade to the 8T from my current 5T. Do you think I should opt for the Asus zenfone pro?
Oneplus as per usual falling short in the camera dept.... if they only could enhance it their phones would be hard to beat!
The OnePlus 8T is in such a weird place given the rest of their phone lineup. They have to give people an incentive to switch to the OnePlus 8 Pro, being the camera. Otherwise, the OnepPlus 8T is the superior phone given the price.
@@abrararifify Count in the IP68 and the wireless charging.
Paul in Ireland for what you get for the price there has to be trade offs and sure the cameras are behind the competition but they aren’t that bad. I’ve seen way worse.
But I agree if they up their camera game they would be hard to beat especially around this price point.
@@justanugget4844
I agree, I've still got my OnePlus 7 pro 12gb ram version and there isn't another phone to touch it in terms of performance but the camera is crap.
When you buy from tradinshenzhen do u need pay tax for it in Europe?
Only with the DHL shipping method .Global priority you should be fine
No, as long as you buy the phone from their EU stock (they have a choice with China). They do flash sales and free gifts and generally cheaper than buying from your local source.

Dude! Subscribed! Well detailed review than just reading the specs. I appreciate that! Keep going
Do you know how to prevent display issues ?
Great detailed review. Everything looks reasonably good but the camera is a disappointment. Considering they've been using this sensor on the OP8 with the same processor, It shouldn't really need any tweaks. A minor problem with importing is Hydrogen OS instead of Oxygen OS
Btw, would you be doing an in depth comparison between the S20 FE 5G and OP8T? The price segment between these two phones are rather similar.
hey chris, great work buddy, will u be reviewing the mi 10T light please?
I'm not sure. I'm still waiting for my 10T Pro review unit from Xiaomi so maybe after that
Because of the overly aggressive RAM management, Google has effectively turned my 8GB RAM phone, into a 3GB RAM phone.
Doesn't happen to me on note 20 ultra
Hi dear, I'm from exynos only so every snap for me will be better.
My quest: mi 10 or this?
My preference for audio, battery and performance
Thanks
Should i get this or realme x50 pro?
I like the frame with the phone and the coffee. Beside that , great job as always!
Thank you! Cheers!
Great review, thanks. What is the song you were playing in the sound check? Br Jon
Thanks for the vid! First time checking out your channel. Im in the US, if I buy the OP8T from this trading schezchen site will it work in the states?
Best to check the bands on their website with your carrier

Strange i have exactly the opposite observation on the heating up during gaming. It is way cooler than my iphone xs and it stays around 38 max 40 C all the time for me and i play graphically intense games. Keep in mind the game devs have to optimise their games correctly and sometimes its not the phone and its software/ hardware related ,but the game itself. My iphone were heating mad while playing arena of valor, suddenly at one point a patch dropped and i never saw this phone heating up again while i play AOV.
