It was on a list of medications and supplements to tell the doctor you were taking, which was posted in the waiting room at a podiatrist's office I visited in New Hampshire about 15 years ago.

Hey Dr.Sam As I have used saw palmetto for let's say 4 months, I can assure that it does work!! for me, I have hair loss plus hair roots pain since 3 years (Pain and hair loss are in parallel) while all dermatologists failed to diagnose my case cause I went for Saw palmetto and wow it really decrease the pain, and as the roots pain decreased the loss is slowed down. *Hence: unfortunately my case is still undiagnosed correctly, and no medication gave me the Saw palmetto results.

Like finasteride, once you stop saw palmetto the benefits will stop - so if you have a tendency to hair thinning that will start back up again. But it sounds like you don't have hair loss in your family (particularly your mother's father's side?) it should not be a problem for you. 2. No, if you stop saw palmetto it just reverts to your baseline. 3. Actually, it sounds like you are doing a great job with fish oil and saw palmetto! I'm a big believer in getting nutrients from your diet rather than supplements if possible. If you want to take a men's multivitamin that contains zinc, vitamin d and iron - that will help your hair. I don't have a particular brand preference, but you get what you pay for with supplements. Fish oil has great omega 3 content, which is great for your hair, so nice choice there.
saw palmetto indeed work but it always depended on how much pure extract you can get from it. You have to use more potent and high efficacy form of saw palmetto. I'd suggest Sabal Serrulata 6x or 30CH potency in 480mg for proper effect.

Hi there, your question is a wee bit tricky. I'd first check to make sure your thyroid levels are ok and TSH is nice and stable. You could have a general hormone check at the same time to see what your FSH is doing? It's always best to double check as assumptions are easy to make about cause. But in terms of trying saw palmetto, I don't think I'd have many objections, in terms of interactions with levothyroxine. If anything Saw Palmetto may reduce estrogen which may or may not cause you symptoms.

You may want to read the Centrum multivitamin ingredient list and do some research about what exactly are all those fillers and colors and where are the cheap ingredients sourced from. I know that it's a lot of work, but you owe it to yourself to find the highest quality supplements (you may have to pay a little more too).

Thank you for the video. From what I can see, finasteride (1 mg) is an effective hair lose preventative measure, but not an effective regrowth treatment. If you are totally bald, finasteride will not help you. If you still have lots of hair and want to keep it, then finasteride will help you keep the hair you have. I take both, finasteride and saw palmetto. The saw palmetto I take comes in the form of an oil. Also I take more than 320 mg of berry oil. I do believe this has helped me keep the hair that I have, while my brothers have lost theirs. One brother is almost completely bald, while another one is rapidly losing his hair. Also just an observation, they both had very bad acne, and 5-alpha reductase has been linked to hormonally induced acne. The other "proven" treatment is minoxidil. I put proven in quotes because the results are just...meh. Sure, 5% of users get lots of regrowth, and the rest are...meh. So if you're one of the lucky 5%, good. Otherwise, don't bother.
Data Lore well everybody is different. I know people that were near bald and taking minoxidil and finasteride greatly got their hair back and is way thicker than before. So I’ve seen it with my own eyes, as well as people on reddit who have done the same and you can notice a great difference. I have used finasteride pills in the past for hair loss and it made my hair great but had to stop taking it coz of sexual side effects. Re- saw palmetto, I have used it on and off every few months (320 mg daily) and every time I used it, I experienced significant loss of libido so I had to stop it then my hair gets worse so I re use it again then I experience libido loss then I stop and so on.

I know this is a tough one - I do understand why you feel confused! Saw Palmetto has not been shown to result in Post-Finasteride Syndrome - but the actions of SP are similar to Finasteride, so there is always a risk. I can't tell you what to do, but I'd weigh up the risks and benefits before starting. Would you consider topical treatments, like Minoxidil, instead if you are feeling concerned?
You need to take finasteride permanently in order to order to maintain your hair. I am sure that the same is true for Saw Palmetto because it's also a DHT inhibitor. The other drug she mentioned is dutasteride. Dutasteride is a more powerful drug than finasteride in preventing hair loss, but finasteride is FDA approved, and dutasteride is not.

That's probably a good dose Asim. See how you go on it for a month. If you needed you can increase it up to 320mg

It mentions the most frequently reported adverse events are abdominal pain, diarrhoea, nausea, fatigue, headache, decreased libido and rhinitis.
I wouldn't trust many of these studies funded by corrupt pharma industry. Remember AHA backed study that showed coconut oil being bad for your health and olive oil good? Turns out coconut industry didn't fund American Heart association so they were fked. People in Karela eat coconut oil all day and have the highest life expectancy in india.

Hi there, your question is a wee bit tricky. I'd first check to make sure your thyroid levels are ok and TSH is nice and stable. You could have a general hormone check at the same time to see what your FSH is doing? It's always best to double check as assumptions are easy to make about cause.
But in terms of trying saw palmetto, I don't think I'd have many objections, in terms of interactions with levothyroxine. If anything Saw Palmetto may reduce estrogen which may or may not cause you symptoms.

You may want to read the Centrum multivitamin ingredient list and do some research about what exactly are all those fillers and colors and where are the cheap ingredients sourced from. I know that it's a lot of work, but you owe it to yourself to find the highest quality supplements (you may have to pay a little more too).

From what I can see, finasteride (1 mg) is an effective hair lose preventative measure, but not an effective regrowth treatment. If you are totally bald, finasteride will not help you. If you still have lots of hair and want to keep it, then finasteride will help you keep the hair you have.
I take both, finasteride and saw palmetto. The saw palmetto I take comes in the form of an oil. Also I take more than 320 mg of berry oil. I do believe this has helped me keep the hair that I have, while my brothers have lost theirs. One brother is almost completely bald, while another one is rapidly losing his hair. Also just an observation, they both had very bad acne, and 5-alpha reductase has been linked to hormonally induced acne.
The other "proven" treatment is minoxidil. I put proven in quotes because the results are just...meh. Sure, 5% of users get lots of regrowth, and the rest are...meh. So if you're one of the lucky 5%, good. Otherwise, don't bother.
Data Lore well everybody is different. I know people that were near bald and taking minoxidil and finasteride greatly got their hair back and is way thicker than before. So I’ve seen it with my own eyes, as well as people on reddit who have done the same and you can notice a great difference. Again eveeybody is different so it’s worth the chance if anybody is able to get their hands on it

I have used finasteride pills in the past for hair loss and it made my hair great but had to stop taking it coz of sexual side effects. Re- saw palmetto, I have used it on and off every few months (320 mg daily) and every time I used it, I experienced significant loss of libido so I had to stop it then my hair gets worse so I re use it again then I experience libido loss then I stop and so on.

I know this is a tough one - I do understand why you feel confused! Saw Palmetto has not been shown to result in Post-Finasteride Syndrome - but the actions of SP are similar to Finasteride, so there is always a risk. I can't tell you what to do, but I'd weigh up the risks and benefits before starting. Would you consider topical treatments, like Minoxidil, instead if you are feeling concerned?

You need to take finasteride permanently in order to order to maintain your hair. I am sure that the same is true for Saw Palmetto because it's also a DHT inhibitor. The other drug she mentioned is dutasteride. Dutasteride is a more powerful drug than finasteride in preventing hair loss, but finasteride is FDA approved, and dutasteride is not.

Spironolactone is a blood pressure medication, that is also used for hair loss in women, and facial hair growth. It's not used for acne.
