Woodturning - What a Pain in my Bowl!

  • In this week’s woodturning video, Harry and I decide it’s time to finish turn a bowl blank that we roughed out a little over two years ago. This was quite a massive hunk of Sweetgum so we ended up coring out a 2nd bowl which is still sitting on my shelf of half-finished turned items.
    While coring this hunk of wood we encountered a massive nail which proved to be a pain in both Harry and I’s rear ends.
    Once the nail was out we coated it in emulsified wax to slow the drying time and left it on the shelf for over two years. Finally we were able to finish this piece and clear up some space on my shelf!
    Harry and I hope you enjoy the video!

    Wow. That is an impressive piece of wood, and well done shaping it.
    I'm always worried when I see a black stain in wood that isn't spalted, because that's what old iron does inside wood. At least in some woods that have enough tannins to react with it.

    Nice one. Surprised that it took 2 years to dry. I guess I forgot how wet and miserable the weather can be in the UK Here in Montana I would guess at between 3 and maybe 5 months. It's very dry here

    • @HodgePodgeWoodWorks
      @HodgePodgeWoodWorks  ปีที่แล้ว

      Well it probably didn't need two years. That's just how long it took me to get back to it! Also, I'm down in Houston so it can be a bit humid at times.
