Yeeeees, shrinking wood happens...So does wood that's not all it's cracked up to be, but is cracked much more! However, it does make for challenging and interesting turning! Nice dish! The spalting is really attractive. I have a spalted cherry bowl, I'm working on. It has beautiful colours: Apricot, yellow, cream...It should be quite gorgeous, if the punky areas can be controlled!
My lathe is down so I’m having to live vicariously through Harry until the warranty replacement pets arrive from Laguna. Great vid as always & cheers from Texas
If you don't mind please check out Richard west woodturing he has unique style not ya traditional turning thank you. Ernie smith from brisbane Australia
Thanks! As they were hitting me they were getting a bit annoying so I did that overhand grip. Funny thing was I was watching a Richard Raffan video the other day and saw him doing it quite a bit too.
I suppose I could have. I've got all the necessary equipment to do that kind of thing except for the stabilizing resin. That sort of thing just takes to much of my limited time at this current stage of life.
hey robert can you feature my question in a video please? how can you tell the difference between spalted wood like maple, sycamore, ash things like that? thanks for the video. just remember God loves u, God bless. chris

Nice looking plate. It is never over till it's over.
After you said it was getting thin, I was afraid it would become a funnel. It turned out really nice for all you had to go through.

Could you have vacuum stabilized the block before turning ?
