- A partial ACL tear is an injury to only a portion of the ACL. The normal ligament is divided into two parts Anteromedial bundle and a Posterolateral bundle. It is also called AM Bundle and a PM Bundle. If one of these bundle is injured its called Partial ACL Tear.
Symptoms of Partial ACL Tear
Knee swelling
Pain around the knee joint
Sensations of buckling or giving out of the knee
Knee instability

1. Avulsion of foot print of ACL from femoral attachment site of anterior tibial spine with avulsed fragment measures 1.0 x 1.0 cm (approx). 2
. Osteochondral injury of antero lateral femoral condyle and contusion of postero lateral tibial condyle noted. 3. Postero lateral corner injury with partial strain of FCL, popliteal muscle,
popliteo-fibular ligament and arcuate ligament noted. 4. Horizontal tear of posterior horn of medial meniscus noted.
5. No obvious demonstrable pathology noticed in lateral meniscus.
6. Grade I strain of MCL seen.
7. Mild synovial effusion seen 8. No obvious demonstrable pathology noticed in quadriceps tendon, patellar
ligament and cartilages.
Fell again after ACL surgery, there was a lot of stress on the leg, but there is no pain, there is no decrease in activity.
After the accident, if I am able to walk and exercise as before, has my new ACL been saved from rupturing

Hello Sir, I've been suffering form knee problem after getting trauma in sports of football and in MRI I've diagnosed with
1. Mild increased PDFS signal of the anterior cruciate ligament with preserved alignment along
the Blumensaats line --s/o strain-follow up is advised .
2. No obvious tear of the ligament is demonstrated.
3. Patchy marrow contusion/edema of lateral femoral condylar epiphyses at sub-articular
location.
4. Minimal joint fluid .
Though just after my traumatic injury I was feeling instability 2 times in my knee while walking downwards from a slope, after that I lost all my quad muscle with moderate knee swelling and my knee just don't feel right to go to the Pitch again, what should I do?

About twenty five years ago, I fell on the on the ground and received a severe internal injury on my my left knee. I consulted many doctors. They prescribed pain killers and gels but a little betterment in pain. So, I decided to do MRI by myself which showed fanning of the fibres of ACL of left knee. grade 1 usually heal. grade 2 may or may not heal, grade 3 never heal.

Hi Sir, I am 25 years old and I have "Partial Thickness ACL Tear" and my knee is stable but I am worried that using exercise, I can gain my 100% strength back or not because I searched and everyone was saying that ligaments never heals. That's why I am worried.
if you dont have instability then nothing to worry. just keep on doing knee strengthening exercises. you will be fine.

It depends on the grade of posterior drawer test,i mean how much does your leg bone go back when you walk or sit? In grade 3 surgery is essential to prevent knee Arthritis. I will have to examine your knee to tell you the grade of PCL tear and it's treatment.

actually partial thickness tear will not be cured without surgery because there is no blood and nutrients supplying nerve in ACL. once it is torn partially or fully, it may not heal without surgery. If you torn 15 to 20% of your ACL fibers then you will live your live normally with lack of physical activities and sports but if you torn your more than 30% of ACL fibers then surgery will be required. because in high grade partial ACL tears, there will be a chance of reinjury to the remaining ACL fiber and at last it needs surgery
