    Medical science is an absolute WONDER. This is SO cool and so amazing, and I genuinely hope it gives new hope to people who need this kind of repair done to a damaged ACL. I had heard that we could fix these ACL tears now, but I didn't know they actually learned how to make your body grow a NEW one. That's WILD! I'm literally mind blown. I had this surgery back in 2003. Seventeen years later it's still doing well. I remember I strengthened my leg like crazy prior to surgery (I had 2 months until my surgery). Those 4 incisions turned my leg to mush. The entire back of my leg was the color of plumb when the took the wraps off 3 days later! If you get the surgery, then be sure to take the physical therapy seriously. I am not gonna lie...it hurts when they bend your knee to break up that scar tissue! However, if you want full range of motion, then it needs to happen. The strengthening exercises aren't painful. Just that leg bend thing! When I was in PT there was a college basketball player at the same. She cried in pain every time they pushed her heel towards her back side and I almost cried right along with her. It was the community of pain and thankfully...full recovery!

    • @ssss22
      @ssss22 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@suhailchovvayil5553 first, you need to find your physical therapist and start all over again bettering the range of motion in a right way. flexion and extension of the knee must be perfect, then stretching the soft tissue. In order to have good recovery , you MUST follow the plan of physical therapist and don't exagerate even if you feel well with it. The implanted tissue of ACL is long to recover itself in the tibia bone and all of those bio/titan components. Then you strenghten your knees along with ankles and hips and deep stabilization muscles with the body weight and correctly. and after that (it can be 4 or 5 months, or more, that's individual) you can start lifting something, but slowly and smart. Always be in touch with your PT and follow the rules and plan. Because the surgery can be perfectly done, but if you don't follow the plan and rehabilitation, then it's useless.
      Good luck

    Absolutely amazing! I read somewhere that the biceps femoris tendon is actually stronger than the ACL. I don't think they simply insert the tendon into position either; I could be wrong, but I believe it gets twisted, in order to further increase the strength. It shows when you see these football players return, and look as if they were never injured in the first place. This WAS a career-ender probably as recently as the '80s or '90s!
    Edit: depending on which tendon is grafted, the tendon isn't twisted, it's folded to increase strength.

    Just had this done today. Fun facts: hamstring graft creates an ACL around 4x stronger than a natural ACL once it's fully recovered, with only losing a maximum of 5% of hamstring strength (not a big deal, imagine curling 100 lbs with one and 95 with the other). Cadaver tissue usually isn't too good because it's not living and it's usually of older people who have more "mileage" on their ACL which makes it more fragile. Patellar tendon grafts are strong, but not as strong as hamstring.

    i have had 3. I had my left ACL repaired through patella graft my junior year in high school, my right repaired using patella my freshman year in college, and more recently a cadaver tendon used for my right as i retore it.
    From my experience as a college level athlete DO THE CADAVER. Many studies speak on the efficacy of each method, usually settling on hamstring is best for women athletes and patella men as our bodies are stronger on specific muscle groups. After speaking with multiple people who had the hamstring graft and myself going through the patella graft i can say that both cause many long term problems such as hamstring sprains/weakness, hamstring tears, and range of motion on bending, or like myself severe patellar tendonitis and range of motion on extension.
    In the end the cadaver healing process was 100X easier as my range of motion came back, there was less stitches (the patellar scar is 4-5 inches long down the front of your knee), less swelling, i was able to walk sooner and therapists typically feel more comfortable with you doing strength training sooner. After doing a lot of research on the subject for my most recent reconstruction (as i still play soccer recreationally) i didn't find enough evidence for hamstring/patellar being superior to warrant it. One of my biggest mistakes in my life will have been doing the patellar grafts and i will forever look on my knee scars wishing i did the cadavers. If you are looking at this video to prepare, take my advice and do some research on the recovery process of each as that is the MOST important part, and the cadaver recovery is so much easier. recovering from the patellar surgery felt like pure torture.

    • @michaelconroy5344
      @michaelconroy5344 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I too had both of my knees done with the patella, personally I love the scars, but I understand why you wouldn’t, not the prettiest things to look at. Just had the right knee down about a week ago so I’m still rehabbing, hope I don’t get any tendinitis hear it’s very painful. Luckily didn’t have any problems with the left side pain but I did develop a cyclops legion the size of a golf ball that prevented full ROM, had a second surgery to take it out and I was perfectly fine again.

    • @tylerfielder5582
      @tylerfielder5582 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@michaelconroy5344 Yes, tendonitis and full ROM were my issues on both Patella graph surgeries. The initial days after the surgery were also 5X worse in pain and ROM as compared to cadaver. The incision is smaller (you only have the three small incisions). After going through both and doing extensive research i just have not found enough of a difference to warrant getting patella or hamstring done since they literally cut those out of your body. The cadaver reject rate is so low and they d great testing for efficacy now , and the recovery was so much easier. I would always recommend it every single time.I hope your recovery goes well!

    • @tylerfielder5582
      @tylerfielder5582 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@RFKtoenail The hamstring graft is popular, often a doctor specializes in one (Patella, hamstring, cadaver). The hamstring is more popular for females because they tend to be hamstring dominant and patella for males as they are quad dominant. I have two friends who got the hamstring done and they had hamstrin sprains/tears for years after. This could be just them and their training, but hamstring recovery is also harder on getting your full bending back due to them cutting the muscle. I have heard the pain and recover can be somewhat easier on hamstring because it is in a different portion of the knee whereas patella is cutting out one ligament in your knee to replace a ligament... in your knee. I would still recommend cadaver just from my own personal experience, but the most important parts are going to be 1. Finding a good doctor who has the procedure down (whatever procedure they use) and 2. a good physical therapist/regimen.

I cannot stress how important it is to get your knee to straight position. If you cannot get your knee straighten untill week 6, you may never fully recover and graft can easily snap, in 2 years. Almost no one talks about it. They just tell you what to do without telling why is this so important. I just had my acl done and started excercising the next day after surgery, timing might be different if you had other things done but its very important not to neglect it.

      Hey! It's been a while since i posted this! I've got to say that, if I do sports regularly (going to gym, strengthen the quadriceps) I can do any sport.
      It doesn't hurt but i felt like I've lost a little bit of flexibility on my left knee, where i had the surgery, but if I do work it will be back as usual.
      Honestly, i can do a pretty normal life, do whatever I can and doing every sport, but I'm more conscious than before

      Tatiago93 hi, did you feel painful after a day of surgery?

    • @MrPatati93
      @MrPatati93 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@khoantruong6863 of course, the first two weeks were really painful, i was in meds all day to endure the pain, but in the end it went well, after the third month i didn't have pain at all and started to have a 'normal' life. After the sixth month, I was able to do sport again. Painful, but it was worth it.

    Went through this 2 weeks ago, was dealing with torn acl from almost a year now, which made my other mucles weak, and now rehab is been going on, surgery was not that painful thanks to all pain killing meds, but therapy is helllll, im a freelancer eneded up dropping 2 of my clients due to mentally and physically challanging therapy session. If you pain tolerance is high then you can easily survive, if not YOU CAN STILL DO IT! But get that surgery its not worth delaying that. Good luck ask if you have any questions ⬇️

    just had this procedure completed 48 hours ago. tore my acl playing high school football. if u get a choice between general anesthetic or a spinal shot take the spinal shot!! the drugs are awesome lmao and youll feel more refreshed when u wake up in the recovery room. the day after the surgery is a little worse and this morning was again more painful for me but this is the worst it should get (knock on wood) and it is very similar to the pain in the days following the original tear so its nothing u havent experienced already. take lots of painkillers and use cold therapy machine as often as u can! :-)

    I've been dancing professionally for 13 years and never had an injury until I slipped during a performance and completely tore my ACL. I am getting surgery this month. A bit nervous after reading all your comments. I was told I will be able to dance after 4 months with intense physio. but I guess it is dependent on the person and surgery itself.
