Hi Alan, I was expecting to find a ball bearing so it was a shock when it wasn't there. Looking at the parts list though there should have been two, one in each hole, which is a little more unusual. All a bit of a learning curve but I will get my head around it in the end I hope. Thanks for watching!
If you check out the Tatro Machine youtube channel he has done a few S&S carb rebuild videos, they are pretty simple carbs so i dont think you will have too much trouble getting it to work correctly.
Hi Murray, they are pretty simple as you say. The rebuild kit is on the way so I am pretty confident it will be up and running soon. I can then move on to sorting out a rather major leak. Thanks for watching!
I appreciated the macro lens views of the smaller components. Yet again, progress is halted by a lack of balls! 😉 I shall look forward to the next video. All the best!
Would you soak the casing and metal bits in citric acid Mark? I’ve a 2cv carb to recondition at some stage and was thinking of leaving the bits and pieces in citric acid. Cheers Conor.
Hi Conor. All my carbs just go in the parts washer which is filled with Comma Hyperclean and given a thorough brushing. They are then rinsed and immediately blown through with compressed air. This cleans them very well but will not remove heavy oxidisation or corrosion. I know plenty of people have used citric but I personally do not as the zinc alloys used in carbs vary in quality so much which makes me a little nervous ( possibly unfounded). The best results I have seen were with soda blasting to remove the corrosion, then ultrasonic cleaning, they looked lovely. I think I have a scrap 2cv carb body knocking about, I might drag it out and give it a go just to see what happens. Thanks once more for watching!
Thanks Mark. I have a cheap ultrasonic cleaner, so I’ll use that. By the way, I had a sheared head bolt on the 2cv and used your suggestion of welding the nut onto it. Even at that, it was dead tight to remove but finally got it out. That has saved a load of hassle retreading. Thanks for the tip.
@@oldnutsgarage getting there, slowly but surely Mark. Full rebuild of a 1970 AKS400 van. Chassis & suspension all stripped and back together. New bearings, kingpins & shocks. The M4 engine has been a nightmare, bent tubes on one head, removed but they don’t make 17mm tubes any more, sourced replacement and when I was fitting it, I heard something rattling inside the block, opened up to find casing damaged around cam follower as well as bits of an old cam follower, turned out somebody had fitted an over sized cam follower and the cam couldn’t shift it and broke the casing. I’ve now sourced a replacement M4 engine and starting from scratch again but fingers crossed all will come together. Then onto bodywork. Enjoying the process so far and have got lots of info from your 2cv videos. Keep up the good work.
Wow, that lot will keep you busy. Really unlucky with the first engine but at least you managed to find another one, I would have thought they were getting a bit thin on the ground. Enjoying it is the key to success I think, it helps you keep going when things do go the way they are meant too.!
Are you using the try and fail technique? Looks like your first S&S carburetor repair. Maybe get somebody to teach you before you try to make a repair video.
Hi Bjoern, first of all it is not a how to video it is part of a series of exploring a shovel head as a new owner. It is the first S &S repair and I think that was mentioned. The carb is now back together and functioning perfectly. Thanks for watching and taking the time to state the blindingly obvious, your insight wlll be helpful to others. Loved your video of the sofa btw
I second the appreciation of the use of the macro lens, I enjoy the videos Thank You for continuing showing the progression.
Glad you like them Max and thank you for taking the time to watch them, much appreciated!
The ball bearing and spring by the look of it, is the one way valve so the accelerator pump can function properly regards Alan from the UK.

Excellent, glad it worked. Sounds like you have a big job on your hands with the 2cv, good luck with it.
