30+ years in motorcycles and just got my first Harley (if you don't count the '78 SX125) an 1984 FXRDG. Been in hundreds of carbs but never an S&S. This was the best video I've found to help me sort it. Thanks for posting.

Is the accelerator pump nozzle supposed to spray a stream or a mist? Mine just kind of pukes.

Thank you so much. My dad left me his bike after passing. Ive rebuilt and replaced everything to fix it up. Never learned how to work on carbs. The guys at Harley took $500 and gave me the bike back the same way i brought it to them. I can't afford to keep doing that just to tune the bike every time. Aside from the accelerator pump rebuild, this was everything anyone would need.

Thanks for another great video, Rocco. I have recently acquired a 2002 Pure Steel Classic softail with an S&S 107 and the S&S Super E carb. This bike is something like a Harley, yet nothing like a Harley at the same time. In any case, you took the mystery out of the Super E carb after I got spoiled by the Delphi fuel injection on my 03 Road King. All the best from Indiana, -Ed

Great video. Never had a problem with my Chinese Super E. I did strip it down when it came, and it was very well finished. They do vary in price quite a bit, and I suspect that is down to the finish quality. Most are relatively rough exterior casting (but functional) and come with few parts. Mine was nicely polished, and came with a complete set of jets, hoses, clamps, and even some nasty plugs (binned those, I use good quality NGK ones, don't worry!).

Not a problem, my friend. After years of doing this stuff, I realize that the only thing that ever goes bad is your float needle valve. Most times you can clean it. I don't do that, I just buy a new float needle valve when it is leaking gas out that overflow hose. No need to get crazy clean it and move on. I wanted to put The CV40mm carbs one for each jug on my Suzuki 1400 intruder since the front carb has a float that hangs vertically and always is a problem with bad design I saw the SSsuper e kit carb, and I will have to run one for each jug due to they both mount on the back side of the jugs . I will have to sink them together.I'm thinking that the SS carbs will be easier to tune in than the CV40mm carb what do you folks think about the conversion I'm thinking that the accelerator pump may be too much for just feeding one jug any feedback on any problems with CV40mm and the S&S carbs for the 1400 intruder any advise from you folks on possible problems I might have with either conversion?

S&S says 2 set RPM idle at 950 to 1050. I think it's a tad high for me. They say it's hard on the lifters and cam and extremely hard on the bottom end. To have it loping at a low RPM. Do you ever clean out the air bleed passages? I know on that old carburetor there it only has a drilled .04 hole 4 a main air bleed. The fuel mixture setting alone can make that bike run rich. The people that don't know their bike like you obviously know that one. They would not set that fuel mixture the way you did. From start fuel mixture screw is 1 1/4 turn from lightly seated backed out counterclockwise. The bike has to be at running temperature. They swear it will run rich if you set it before it's at running temperature. Fuel mixture turn clockwise to bike stumbles remember where that's at. Then run it back counterclockwise till it stumbles again. Then move it back half way between the 2 stumbles. Or where the RPM is at its highest. Those of us that don't have a Dyno. They said to put your bike in 3rd gear leave it in 3rd gear running 50 mph and roll in to it up to 70 mph this is their way to test the main jet. When you roll into it. If it backfires or cracks up in the carburetor. They say to go down .004 on main jet size. If you roll into it and it's flat or won't accelerate increase your main jet .004. I'm having trouble tweaking mine in because I can't stand to run a baffle in my bike! It's a older bike 97 FXD nothing special it might have a mild bump stick in it. Super E with the adjustable air bleed jet for the main jet with Vance & Hines 2 into1. I don't like the way they sound being I am a drag racer. They told me if I was running drag pipes with no baffles I should take them off and throw them in the garbage. I had an 83 shovel FXR with drag pipes no baffles that Shovelhead would walk away from my Evo like it was tied to a stump! They say you lose low-end and mid-range. I call BS! My damn shovel was quick as hell! I'm running a 2 into 1 Vance & Hines header. I love the crackle of the header and I got drag pipes no damn baffles on my Softail. Yes it's got a Super E on it too.✌️
