After 20 years of riding Ducati I changed to one of these 15 months back. It’s a superb machine for any task including touring. A 250 mile day is no trouble.
I owned one for 2 years touring on it was not good ,the fuel tank was too small,if you pushed on it fuel consumption was heavy,I was constantly looking for fuel stations after 140 miles,it needs 20 litre fuel tank
@@donnawillson1516 I had the same problem with a Rivale that i owned. Damn fun bike (useless for touring though), but the fule-consumption combined with a small tank made me sell it after only 1 year. Such a hassle.
@@donnawillson1516 I ride a BMR1250R. Very comfortable and impeccable handling and relaxed ride, with superb low rev acceleration. It does over 60 mpg and 250 mile range on the bike is true, though don't go much more than 200 miles on a tank. Sometimes I think I want to change for a more fun bike, but which bike, I cannot make up my mind.
A great concept to give impressions of a bike simply by the seat-of-the-pants experience. As you said Andy, it is what it's all about! More pure feedback than going in with full specs, competitor data and unavoidable preconceptions.
I tested one of these on a dealership ride day a couple of years ago , and compared to my daily rider it was like a jet fighter. Very impressed with how solid it felt.
Just bought one last week. I had the intention of buying a CMX 1100 Rebel, but also testrode this one, and i've never ever abandoned a plan so quickly. This bike is just amazing. Easy handling, good power, very light indeed even though its 214kg. Great review!
Switched to CB1000R+ from my first big bike, Suzuki SV650. I feel so much secure on this one (well no wonder since SV was a budget built bike). I love it! Goes well, handles well and looks gorgeous!
I like these a lot. I’m a big fan of things like the R9T and Speed Twin but they are clearly retro and something of a design cul de sac. This updates the classic look nicely I think. It looks solid and purposeful but also elegant and balanced to my eyes.
Got one last year and felt exactly as the review stated. Its like a perfect balance of everything. Absolutely nothing to complain about. Just love it. Thank you for the wonderful review. This bike definitely deserves this kind of appreciation. Cheers!
Canadian owner here. Love the bike, but fully recognize the fueling is handicapped by euro 5. Bigger feet will rub the single sided swing arm with your left heel a bit. Stock exhaust sounds wonderful throughout the range. Happy to be the owner of such a beautiful looking bike.
No fueling problems on my 2014 with a Yoshimura 3/4 cat delete exhaust. My only complaint is it's a bit cramped but that engine and the handling makes up for it.
My friend just bought one of these 2 days ago. We went for a ride and switched bikes for a bit. I loved it!!!! Fantastic machine! I now want one!!! So smooth, plenty of power, comfortable, perfect!!!! (My bike is a 2023 Harley Low Rider S. Love it too, but want the CB1000R as a second bike!)
Great review Andy. Pleased to see you appreciate the bike. Had mine nearly a year now and love it. No really issues as such, I’d do however find putting fuel in it a bit of a pain because of the bar across the filler. You can’t get the nozzle in the tank that far so you need to add fuel slower that usual otherwise it splashes all over the place. It does tend to get quite dirty as well, I get spray over the rear seat and up the back of my jacket. Apart from that it goes as fast or as slow as you want it to without complaint, it’s reasonably comfortable over longer distance and returns a healthy 52 mpg.
As you would put it Andy specs wise it looks to be in the Goldilocks zone too. 213 kg 143 hp 830mm seat height, decently priced and being it's a Honda no Warranty anxiety to worry about so if you were after a long term keeper the red one would look great in anybody's garage. Lets hope a few people test ride this bike after seeing your review as I suspect for most of us that initial impression is very important.
I've had one for a couple of years. It's my daily commuter. Only issues are the 4-6k rpm Euro 5 dead spot and the factory tires. Full exhaust and tune took care of most of the 4-6k dead spot and swapped to Mich 5's and it's been perfect.
I am proud to own a cb1000r. It’s a great fun bike. Replacing the hugger with a tail tidy is a major task. It also makes the bike horrible in the we. In its stock form the hugger does make it very difficult to access the bolts to tension the chain. Other than these small gripes it’s a glorious fast bike that makes me smile
I work for Vertu Honda in Nottingham, when I first went out on the black edition I loved it didn't think I would coming from fireblades etc! fantastic review 👍
I absolutely love my 19. Basically anytime your hitting redline your breaking speed limits. The best mod I've done was a full Exhaust system with an ECU flash. It absolutely turns it into a hooligan bike with massive power gains in the midrange.
What brand is your full exhaust system? Baffle in or out? What gains did it achieve post flash ion the Dyno? As I’m looking at doing the same with mine. Cheers.

Great bike, have owned one since 2020 & covered 11k miles with no real issues. if you're a spirited rider approaching 100kg in gear you'll pretty much certainly need a replacement shock as the STD one is far too soft in terms of spring rate & damping, i got the forks set up as best i can & they're ok but nothing to shout about. Replace the exhaust & do a Woolich flash & you'll gain 20bhp in the middle (about 6k rpm), really transforms the bike. Only other 'major' thing i've done is fit heated grips which are a godsend on a cooler day. Love the review, as you said the bike was completely off my radar too but a friend & i got a silly good deal on them - the bike has totally surprised me, even when i took it on track!
Nice review….not surprised reference your observations and summary. A dealer tried to get me to test ride one back in 2014 saying it was one of the best 4 cylinder naked he had ever ridden. I passed and bought a Blade. Wish I had taken up his offer …….. new model looks lovely especially in the dark red / maroon finish.
I had the cb650r and loved it. The tail tidy meant the back under seat got very wet. The radiator area held a lot of water in a storm hence I got rid eventually. Tip if the station you’re filling from looks dirty and miserable the owner is probably a low life that uses crappy fuel, otherwise all fuel comes from the same place. Just because you are filling from Shell or BP doesn’t mean the fuel is good.

Beautiful bike. I don't understand why Honda insists on building generic, cheap looking bikes like the new Hornet when they have this design language to pull from. I haven't heard many that dislike the design of these neo-retros. It should be Honda's standard.
A friend recently had one as a courtesy bike. He rides a Hayabusa but, he spoke highly of the Honda. I tried it out for size, and at 5'6" tall, it's a good fit for me.
Thanks, as usual for your review of what looks like a great 'all round' motorbike. Not one on my radar at the moment, but who knows now. Would be well worth a little look.
Thanks for the review Andy, I’ve had my 2019 CB1000R since January.I had a break of 23 years between owning a bike and getting the CB1000R, so i am taking it easy, getting used to biking again etc. I really can’t fault the bike, its easy to ride and really rewarding, it puts a massive grin on my face every time i take it out 😃. Always liked the look of these later CB1000R's. The comfort you found surprised me a little, i always assumed they would be scrunched up in the leg dep't. Nice review, thanks as ever.
Sounds like a very balanced design. Every time I watch one of your videos I get an urge to drive on the left side of the road. So far I have resisted the urge.
The unplanned review worked really well. Might be a great idea for all first rides and then give more specs in follow up. Great video 👍👍 very good looking bike !
Looking to test ride one tomorrow. Need to upgrade my 2020 Speed Twin to something with a better suspension and can take on the track a few days of the year. Thanks for the review!
I've had mine since 2021 when the black edition first came out and its great. Seems to be a bit underrated and don't see many on the road, but its a fantastic bike. I've put 20,000 km so far, and for me the weakest part of the bike was the rear shock, which I switched for an ohlins and it is now soooo much better, its been on track a few times so far too. I also don't like the neutering honda did down low in first and second gear, I've seen a tuner look into the ecu and honda has restricted the throttle bodies down to 30% to make it more tame and calm. It's taken a while for woolich to get their software compatible for this model but a couple months ago they cracked the code and now people can start tweaking. I find the CB looks better in person than in the pictures/videos too, its absolutely beautiful. I have a z900rs which does my daily work and the CB comes out on sunny weekend rides. Thanks TMF for the ride along!
@Crusader General I've seen a couple of dyno's after, there is a youtuber cycle vybz i think is his name and he posted a tuning video, and I talked with a guy who had moore mafia tune is a couple months ago. They both put full exhaust systems and only gained about 10 hp but the mid range was noticeably improved. For me the top end is good enough, especially since its a naked, but the down low and midrange is suffering a bit on these. I don't think anybody is offering a mail in flash service yet either.
I just had my ecu flashed on my 21 Blk edition and it's night and day. All that low end power is there now. As you mentioned before the rear shock is something I will have to look into Changing soon.
Without being discourteous to you old mate, Andy Man Cam owned, toured, modded and rode the stuffing out of one of these. For anyone who wants to know just go to his channel. You're still the best reviewer though mate.
You expressed it early in this review when you commented about not knowing the bike's specs...The specs really don't matter, as our enjoyment of riding comes from the ride itself. My first ever experience on a bike was at age 13 being taught how to ride on a Honda SuperCub - yes, all of 55cc, and it was the most exhilerating thing I had ever experienced in my young life. Over the years I've been in many a conversation with fellow motorcyclists, and specs and performance numbers get tossed around ad nausem. But riders seldom talk about how riding makes them feel. And to me, that's all that matters. For many years I chased the fastest, most highly regarded bikes, only to realize in my waning years that I rode because it was fun... and any ride beats walking! Nice review.
Ive been looking forward to this review Andy since you dropped the Gold Wing off! 🙂 For a new bike with all the euro gubbins, i think it looks great, especially in black.
It's a beautiful machine, love it. I considered one when I bought my MT09sp as well as a GSXS 1000...a coin toss. More grown up than my MT...I want all 3!
Naked Fireblade. What's not to like. It may not be the ultimate sports naked but it's a good looking Honda so would make a good choice in the category for most riders.
I had a 2002 Honda 919 (Hornet 900 in UK) that I loved dearly for the three years I owned it (2002-2005) except the way the exhaust would swirl around my back and make me smell like exhaust all day long. I bought that 919 off the dealer showroom for just over $8k out the door. Those days are long gone. This bike is everything I wanted my 919 to be all those years ago. Alas, I need some longer legs for this bike and 20 years later, I'm looking more to a GW.
Really interesting review and quite eye-opening for me: here is a "modern" looking bike, almost all of which I think basically look like metal mosquitos....and yet here we have an example of a modern bike that looks classy, balanced and harmonious. It's not a boy racer but it's got plenty of muscle in a beautifully crafted and compact form. Looks to me like it could become a classic over time.
Morning Andy, nice quick review. Looks a nice bike, nice smooth power from the four cylinder engine. Would be good if you could do a longer review on it at some future point.
Its one of those bikes when you see a picture off it you give it no further thought then you see it in the flesh/metal and you find it hard to tear your eyes off it:p
Welcome return of the UJM. Can cruise on it, give it the beans, ride all day and also put luggage on it and tour. And it looks like a motorbike and not a plastic kids toy.
I owned a Honda CB1100, it's 4 cylinder was super smooth also. Honda makes well made machines. One caveat with Honda dealers here in the USA, they don't allow test rides.
Nice change of review - the 'quick and dirty'! Agree about the fuel guage - I have a Triumph and it takes a mile or so to register the change. However, if I've just filled up I know I have a full tank - the business end is when you're running low and Triumph handle that well.
Nice one mate! I've had this since they came out march 2022, and been using it for commuting. Interesting about it is that it feels lighter and easier to handle than my 675 triple! I was well shocked. Would be happy to ride out with you on it :)
@The_Hippykiller 2012, dual exhaust under seat but the bug eye headlights, not the round ones. Loved it a lot, but then decided to get a cb1000r, due to its retro looks. Would have kept the triumph had I had the money
Engine: 998cc liquid-cooled inline four-cylinder engine Power: 143 HP Torque: 76 lb-ft Curb Weight: 467 lbs (212 kg) Seat Height: 32.7 in (830 mm) More than enough power but I would imagine at least 160bhp 🤔
Like a lot of bikes these days, the secret about deploying the side stand is to push the footrest back with your heel, then straight down to shove the stand out.
I have one on hire at present while my blackbird gets repaired, it actually feels quicker than the bird, has a nice raspy exhaust note, loads of torque and very comfy, hhmmm, does the cbr1100xx have to go?
Another great video! I’m still not sure how much I like these new tft screens that are on newer bikes. I have enough screens in my life. An LCD dash is enough for me. In fact, best dash I’ve seen is the one on the Kawasaki z900rs. Edit: if they put wireless Apple car play/android auto on the screen that would be great for maps but they don’t.
Ive been waiting for this review since i watched the service video. was beginning to wonder if something happened to the footage. i quite like this style of review.
You know what I never really think about Honda’s to much when looking at motorcycles on my daily autotrader search 😅 but on my way to work I do see a couple of these CB’s and they look and sound pukka 👌
Aah Tesco fuel station, I recognized that one just outside the Chalfonts. I put £50 in my S6 there which I had just purchased to see the mpg back to East Sussex, I was pleasantly suprised
A cracking 'off the cuff' review and maybe some more of this style in the future? As for the CB1000R, I love it and yes, it's one of those 'under the radar' bikes.
It's short for directional pad. It's a fantastic solution for navigating menus when wearing thick motorcycle gloves, or navigating menus in general. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/D-pad
I had a 22 version of this bike for a few weeks, it looked good, rode good. There was nothing to dislike to be fair ... .but there was no chemistry, no fizz. It was a little to clinical for me. In my opinion it really lacks character, and thats a shame for such a good looking bike. I reckon I did 800 miles on it and was glad to hand it back. I bought an MT-10 with my insurance money......now thats a bike.
Nice review & a pretty bike. Looks very classy. I much prefer these super nakeds to the extreme hyper nakeds for the road as they still have way more than enough go & seem to be more sensible in every way. Also on the subject of helmets, Shark have just released the latest SKWAL which is apparently first helmet with an integrated brake light on the back, so they claim.
I own a MV Agusta Brutale 800 and i love it. I just think that the design of japanese bikes is so boring, but this bike i like very much. And it's a bulletproof Honda.
Not rode one, but every time i see one in the flesh it oozes quality to me. But it should do at over £13K for the black edition. Love everything about how the bike looks apart from the number plate appendage, which i would change for a conventional tail tidy. I really should get a test ride on one sometime.
I used to ride a Kawasaki kmx 125 back in the 80s. I Recently got back into bikes and passed full bike license a month ago. I bought a Honda Rebel 500 to basically cut my teeth for now. I will be buying My next bike in March and am undecided with my next purchase. I’m torn between an Indian Scout 101 and this Honda 1000r. Thoughts?
Very interesting 1 liter naked. Honda always delivers. Have to agree on the looks, she means business. Professionals always think on the fly, ready for anything. Excellent review. 🎩-Tip.
Come on Andy, what is wrong with Tesco fuel? In 53 years of riding/driving I have never been able to tell any difference and our RAV 4, Polo and Tiger Sport are all going strong after 10 years of ASDA fuel. Excellent review and you are absolutely right, who cares about BHP, it's how the bike looks to you and how you feel about it etc.😊
I do like this bike, and owned one. Confortable on longer rides, and fun and fast, even able to be taken to the track for some real fun. Suspension was soft to me, but I was a big guy (lost lots of weight since) and went from softish to hard for me. I did end up replacing with Ohlins adjustable type I like, which makes this bike perfect and gives it a nice look as well. Looks amazing! Normally I also change rims on my bikes, but on this one, the factory ones look so nice they're still there. I did change tires to the Michelin Road 6, though, which work great where I live in winter weather. Did I mention the bike looks amazing? ENgine is right for town riding, and exciting on the Canyons and the track! Good bike. Fuel gage is nice. I did end up buying a Speed Triple this year, thogh, and I do miss the fuel gate

I like this review. I really do believe it is how a bike makes you feel that is the deciding factor (it certainly is for me).
I agree 100%
Always liked the look of these later CB1000R's. The comfort you found surprised me a little, i always assumed they would be scrunched up in the leg dep't. Nice review, thanks as ever.
Sounds like a very balanced design.
Every time I watch one of your videos I get an urge to drive on the left side of the road. So far I have resisted the urge.
Good idea to resist assuming you're not in the UK.....
The unplanned review worked really well. Might be a great idea for all first rides and then give more specs in follow up. Great video 👍👍 very good looking bike !
There's a thought....
@@TheMissendenFlyer I second that, I too would like a 'How it feels' first ride review, followed up by a 'Tech Spec and Details' second ride review.
@M FC did you do a full exhaust, and did you have it tuned in person or mail in the ecu?
@K B yea I did a fu black widow exhaust
I started a TH-cam channel MFCycle with everything I've done so far check it out.
Nice one Andy, definitely got a hint of Speed Triple about the styling which is no bad thing.
Superb camera view near to the centre line which makes you feel like you're actually riding the bike. Great job and a really good review..
Thanks a lot!
Without being discourteous to you old mate, Andy Man Cam owned, toured, modded and rode the stuffing out of one of these. For anyone who wants to know just go to his channel. You're still the best reviewer though mate.
I'm a huge fan of Andy's - no discourtesy here!
Couldn’t agree more!
Love this bike. Big brother to my CB650R.
This is quite an enjoyable format! I'd love to see more of these flash reviews.
Glad to hear that! Thanks for watching and for stopping by.
@@TheMissendenFlyer No, thank you for the content!
...my pleasure!
Ive been looking forward to this review Andy since you dropped the Gold Wing off! 🙂 For a new bike with all the euro gubbins, i think it looks great, especially in black.
Yes it's a nicemachine for sure - love that smoooooth engine....
Great off the cuff review TMF . Nice looking bike and being a Honda well made and reliable.👍
I have a 2019 and it's by far the best bike I've ever had. The only downside is the rearshock is a bit undersprung but, a new nitron sorted that issue
I love the swing arm mounted license plate
Ive been riding one of these for 4yrs, amazing bike, love it, rear shock is very average though
Yes I think it has that potential
Morning Andy, nice quick review. Looks a nice bike, nice smooth power from the four cylinder engine. Would be good if you could do a longer review on it at some future point.
Thanks for the kind words....and maybe!
I rode a CB1100 earlier this week! Video coming soon!
I know it's not the latest or greatest but this bike looks so good, the best looking standard for sure. Seems very refined and does everything well
Couldn't agree more!
Love the look of this bike. One in my list to certainly try. Great review as always.
Nice change of review - the 'quick and dirty'! Agree about the fuel guage - I have a Triumph and it takes a mile or so to register the change. However, if I've just filled up I know I have a full tank - the business end is when you're running low and Triumph handle that well.
Fair point!
Nice one mate! I've had this since they came out march 2022, and been using it for commuting. Interesting about it is that it feels lighter and easier to handle than my 675 triple! I was well shocked. Would be happy to ride out with you on it :)
what year was the 675? I own one and it feels very light already so this is surprising
@The_Hippykiller 2012, dual exhaust under seat but the bug eye headlights, not the round ones. Loved it a lot, but then decided to get a cb1000r, due to its retro looks. Would have kept the triumph had I had the money
It's brilliant, got mine last week, Black Edition, and without even noticing already put 1000 miles on it😂!
Congrats!
Engine: 998cc liquid-cooled inline four-cylinder engine
Power: 143 HP
Torque: 76 lb-ft
Curb Weight: 467 lbs (212 kg)
Seat Height: 32.7 in (830 mm)
More than enough power but I would imagine at least 160bhp 🤔
Refreshing not to have to endure the all the specs, well done.
….if I don’t do them I get complaints for that!
Like a lot of bikes these days, the secret about deploying the side stand is to push the footrest back with your heel, then straight down to shove the stand out.
Indeed - good trick!
I have one on hire at present while my blackbird gets repaired, it actually feels quicker than the bird, has a nice raspy exhaust note, loads of torque and very comfy, hhmmm, does the cbr1100xx have to go?
Rear grab handle it’s moulded into the subframe under the rear seat. It’s actually really good. Very Honda.
Totally agree!
Ive been waiting for this review since i watched the service video. was beginning to wonder if something happened to the footage. i quite like this style of review.
Glad to hear that - thanks!
Hats off to Honda making a fun and creative bike
You know what I never really think about Honda’s to much when looking at motorcycles on my daily autotrader search 😅 but on my way to work I do see a couple of these CB’s and they look and sound pukka 👌
1000 cc, over 140hp, and it can "keep up with traffic" lol 😀. Made me chuckle. As ever, a great video ❤
It's called a D-Pad (5:01), Andy, all bikes should have them!
It's short for directional pad. It's a fantastic solution for navigating menus when wearing thick motorcycle gloves, or navigating menus in general. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/D-pad
The best bike money can buy, fun, practical, fast, beautiful, performance, best £= performance
It really is and exceptionally pretty machine. I've wanted to ride one for years.
Lovely bike! My son has a CB300R and it is a fantastic little bike. The 1000R looks to be loads of fun. Thanks for the review!
So funny you mentioned about fuel and triumph. I never knew about it until I got my trident 660. Filled a full tank the bike was registering empty. 😂
Yes saw than in MCN....
I have a previous model SKWAL as a spare helmet and I wouldn't buy another unless they have massivly improved the visor mount clips and wind noise.
@@MadTPot Interesting & good to know. Putting a brake light on the back of it won't fix any of those issues either.
🎩-Tip.
I'd definitely consider one of those. Quality Honda goodness. I'd want a tail tidy to move the plate up though.
Great off the cuff review Andy the bike looks really nice keep up the great vids 👍
Thanks, will do!
love that bike and i see the roads in this country are all in such a terrible state no matter where you go
ride safe
My dream bike. Gorgeous!
Nothing wrong with it as far as I'm concerned - see the other comments on this below from tanker drivers for more details...
Andy, those things sticking down from the foot pegs are called Hero Blobs because if you managed to scrape them while cornering you're a Hero 😂
I Dont think Andy will ever need them. I say this in a nice way and would like to have some of his road manners.
They also get caught in the "turn ups " of your jeans - not cool! !
Sounds good to me - thanks for stopping by!
Terrific bit of kit
