Nice that some companies are still building a 'tradition' sports tourer. Not everyone wants to tour on an adventure bike.

I rode one of these this past year, and the word that kept leaping to mind was "Easy." Everything about it was Easy. The riding position (also 5'8" myself), getting feet down, the weight balance and handling, the torque, the smoothness of the quickshifter, the smoothness of the engine, the cruise control, the windscreen adjustment... it was just Easy. Exactly what I'd want for touring. Ultimately, as a father of a 5 year old, I'm not doing much touring at the moment, so I opted for a different direction, but it's a fantastic bike.

As a Kawasaki fan boy I decided to ignore the GS1300 reviews and watch this video.
Great review on a cool bike, and in the world of £20k bikes, £12k for a 140bhp bike which is renowned for its reliability, sounds like a bargain 👍

Great review Sir. I do like the red and black color scheme!
Bought a low mileage 20' (6k miles) back in March of 22'. As of today the bike has right at 24k miles. I have the OEM comfort seat, panniers and added a Givi top box. I did a bread box/ cat delete and added a Leo Vince silencer as the OEM silencer was just hideous/ heavy. The bike is an absolute joy to ride and other than replacing the battery and general maintenance there have been zero issues.
I find it very comfortable to ride even at 60 years of age. Last road bike I will probably ever own.
    Ride safe

Never a dull moment in your videos. Last year had to choose between this and Tiger 850 sports. It so happened that I realised I had an adventure bone in me. Though with age I was giving up off roading, but then what the heck.. a few more years won't hurt. Picked up the latter.

Great review. By coincidence, I tested one of these last week at my local dealership and I was really impressed with it. Lovely smooth engine, pretty comfortable, well equipped, and very good value for money. With a current offer from Kawasaki, the base model, which you and I both rode, is priced at less than £11,500. That's a lot of bike for the money!

@@splodge5714 but you have to take their finance at quite a high %%%% interest but it would probably still be cheaper than the RRP. I'm 6 foot and I sat on a 2021 with bar risers fitted and it was more comfortable than my old MT07 I had for 6 years. Subject to test ride I would buy one of these once I finish paying for my car 😂 🚗

A really good review of a lovely looking bike. Brake reservoir aside, what a great view from the cockpit. As for touring, perhaps a weekend away, or being based in one place and riding out everyday could be the way to go with it.

I had a 2011 and I loved it. I had it for 5 years. It felt super intuitive, it was quicker than what I needed, and it was reasonably comfortable. The downsides were that it was not super fuel efficient, the older style windscreen wasn't great, and the older dual sided exhaust made chain maintenance a pain.
The rear chain adjustment system and axle holder thing was quite unusual and required some getting used to.

Fantastic review Andy 👏 before I type " you may remember from my previous comments" ( its Russ here ) I had from new the 2017 Z1000 SX and absolutely adored it ❤❤. I toured Europe on it and did a track day on it. Two very different scenarios and it surpassed my expectations on both 👍
My dealership very kindly lent me the Ninja 1000 SX when it came out for a weekend ( I suspect they were getting nervous, as the Z came with a Lifetime Warranty and I was piling on the miles 😆😆 ). The difference between the two bikes was very noticeable in favour of the Ninja 👍Which really surprised me given how good the 'Z' was 🥰
I totally agree with your thoughts on the Ninja ( spot on my friend) and would definitely recommend that anyone who is in the market for a sports tourer, takes one out for a test ride before parting with their 'Hard Earned' 👍
    All the best Andy
    Russ

Your review sums up exactly why I bought a brand new one this year; 10 day tour across Europe in comfort, fun when you get to the twisties, and more than capable to do a track day at Silverstone last month.

Yes, its a bit heavy tbh, but not noticeable once youre moving. Just noticeable when moving around the garage etc. i have the oem panniers and they were very difficult to get on and off until i had done it at least10 times. Now they are super easy to get on and off. Its a super smooth ride, as everyone has already mentioned. The quick shifter is great. I did level 2 of CSS on my ninja atPhilip Island. Except for this looks wise its almost the same except colours but the Ninja is a better bike. It feels quicker handles better has cruise control quick shifter TFD dash and more making a already good bike into a great one. More power I hope, it's already an impressive package and can only benefit from more bhp and torque.
I've done 30k on my 2015, it's taken me all over Europe and easily takes its touring role in its stride.
Am looking for an upgrade and will happily replace mine with this.

Great bikes, I have a 2021 - which I believe apart form colours is the same as the 2023 - and it's one of the best bikes I have owned. Your comments about low speed manners are spot on I wenrt form a 2017 Street Triple RS (which I had from new) last year to the Ninja ands the Ninja is easier to ride at low speed than the Street. I done 9k miles on mine since I bought it May 2022 and can't fault it. Did 2200 miles to Austria and back in July with a bunch of mates - 2 of which were also in Ninjas - in 9 days and had an absolute blast. Can't recommend these bikes highly enough.

The way they set up the suspension when they send these out of the factory is shocking - I had mine set up properly at Greenham Kawasaki and the transformation was remarkable. Best £30 I ever spent on a bike.

Very underrated bike IMO. It sort of flies under the radar because everyone tours on BMW GS's and 1000XR's these days. And I don't think Kawasaki have advertised/marketed the bike as well as they could have...? It's got all the tech and rider aids that you get on a euro bike too.
    And the red/black looks superb!

There needs to be a rethink by manufacturers, away from fashion towards practicality and reliability. Siting the rear brake caliper at the bottom of the disc may make it easier to get at it (around that enormous silencer), but it's going to be covered in muck as soon as it's ridden in the wet, and is at much greater risk of damage from stones etc. There seems to be no excuse for the tiny front mudguard which does nothing to protect the header pipes and radiator from debris continuously thrown out by the front tyre. I suppose if all you do is ride the bike on dry days in places like California there will be no issue. biut this is supposed to be a sports tourer!

Controversial maybe, I like mine in rain mode. I had it in rain mode due to wet roads on my way to work and forgot to turn it off on the return trip. It’s actually a lot of fun. You can rev it higher, which in return the quick shifter runs more smoothly. Way more engaging for my commute. I also like the challenge of not setting off the traction control when accelerating. Learning to ride smoother. I haven’t recorded it but I assume it’s be better on fuel while still being plenty fast enough. Saves the tyres and chain. Then when I do put it in road or sport wow… completely different machine. 1/4 of extra power is huge on this beast.

I LOVE... my SS. Wanted a bike as like that as could be, while allowing me to ride further longer, all the time. I found it in the SX. More of a sport bike that can tour than a touring bike that's sporty. You can't have all of both. I love my Ninja. It's sexy, powerful, practical. Put the dealer option hard cases on. Quality and price sucks buy they do their job, look awesome, contribute to a totally refined serious bike look and feel. I guess I need a phone mount and Bluetooth I've resisted long enough lol. Just making it "my own'' right now.

I have the last double-exhaust model (2017 or 2018 I think), I can't get enough of that machine. It's everything I want a bike to be, long-distance + passenger capable, comfy yet with an engaging riding position, great stability, fantastic sound, fun, flattering, sporty, tame when it must and hysterical when you want... and Kawasaki seems to be the only make that always gets the torque-power balance right.
Such a privilege to live in time when marvels like that are made available to us.
But yeah, Kawasaki can't do mirrors right.

Sadly a type of bike we don't see much of these days, This and the GSX-S 1000 GT.
Would love a comeback of this type of bike in a slightly lower cc with less weight at 200kg to be more comfortable day to day. But with the same packaging and long range capability. Market has moved way too much into the middleweight ADV which I think is a shame but will appeal to all buyers of a similar type.

The powertrain of this Kawasaki 1000 SX is the heart of my all time favorite sport tourer - The Bimota KB4. It has a Bimota chassis with this bike's complete powertrain, wiring harness, ECU, and is stock from airbox to exhaust tip, so as to comply with Euro 5. It's significantly lighter, much more compact, and with the radiator in the tail section to shorten the wheelbase as much as possible, a quicker handling machine. Another superb collaboration with Kawasaki is their H2 based muscle bike. Hopefully Bimota will begin to really flourish under Kawasaki leadership.

I just sold my Ninja 1000sx. I loved it initially but with time I started to have problems with my hands. The slight forward bias and the high frequency buzz between 4-5k revs played havoc with my carpal tunnel and nerves. I tried many things to reduce the buzz but to no avail. I tried bar risers but the upright position didnt suit the bike's handling. The wind noise was also a problem with wind being thrown up by the fairings to the underside of the helmet (I'm 6'2"). Different screens didnt help. The only solution to the wind was a custom made micro screen as small as possible. Lovely bike, just not for me.
