  • The SPTA mini Polisher is one of the best selling Cordless Mini Polishers on Amazon. The Hilda mini car polisher is a very similar looking unit but how does it compare? In todays video i put these two polishers up to the test to see which one is the better buy. The Hilda Polisher is about $40 cheaper than the SPTA Polisher, but outside of price, we will look at overall design, performance, and the accessories to see which mini cordless polisher is the right option for you... ENJOY!!!

I have the SPTA and the Maxshine and I have to say all you have to do is take apart the gear head and remove the inadequate grease and put a larger amount of Superlube or Red Lithium in the gearcase. MUCH quieter and smoother and will make the unit last longer.

I have this Hilda polisher I bought back in Jan. and I got it for like $125 as it had like a $50 amazon coupon it. Mine came with 2 backing plates size 1" and 2" backing plate. I havent had any issues with it but I have only used it a little but I did open it up and remove the grease it came with and replaced with quality lithium grease. I will say factory grease there was barely enough to even do anything in it and it made that rattle sound alot less after changing out the grease.

MaxShine is also made on China though they may have an office in California. Most Companies use the same suppliers to make their products.

You did not receive the same Pads as me with the SPTA SG-DA1!. I have pads that look a lot like rupes with beveled edges and in larger quantities, I also have 2 aluminum extensions for rotary use, there must be several options. In any case, it is an excellent little polisher! 👍. Me the manufacturer announces 1000-7000/min and not 6000 weird. and I think it's in rotary mode, otherwise it would have announced orbits per minute, right?.
On the other hand, as for all my polishers, I change grease!. I replace it either with bardahl htx red high temperature and anti-friction extreme pressure or facom ptfe anti-friction anti-noise grease. This at times considerably reduces noise, vibration and heat.

Bought the SPTA. It's loud and rattly for what it is, the gear housing is non-greaseable (even if you pull the snap ring, the bearing is pressed in), it gets hotter than a two dollar pistol, and the DA throw is too much for the motor, so it just stalls if you look at it funny. Wish it came with a 3mm throw block. Maybe useful as a rotary, but I would say don't buy it for DA functionality. Also the batteries charge via a very weak barrel jack in the battery housing itself. I'm going to be returning it and trying the maxshine out, unfortunately that is now $249, not $225, but I hope worth the slight cost increase.

Reality is random orbit polishers are kind of a dime a dozen now. You can spend hundreds of dollars on polishers but you are buying comfort not results. I paid $90 for a battery powered 5" plate DA at autozone to do paint correction on my brothers car and it did a great job even compared to my Rupes at home. Thing had an 8mm oscillation so it took maybe an extra 20 minutes around the whole car but result was great. In my mind its much more about the pads and compounds at this point than the machine. They all work. I have used my random orbit sander to polish for gloss and it works great with a 3mm stroke.
If id known what i know now i would have bought something like the Milwaukee 15mm and saved the $400 for pads and compounds.
