Great video Jenny! What drew me to your videos years ago is how you simplify patterns into less work and fuss to get the same effect. I say that because a couple months ago I saw a similar pattern done in a video from another shop and it seemed very complicated.

Just finished mine. Used less contrasting colors. Also had to buy yardage instead of a charm pack to get the right colors and it all worked out well. A little more cutting but love the outcome!

I have been looking for a pattern to use up some layer cake squares that were screaming for a stained glass treatment. This will be beautiful in the vivid colors from a Kaufman collections. Thank you for a great idea.
instead of adding the horizontal sashing as one long strip and worrying about getting the blocks to line up, you could add it to each block log cabin style. Then the blocks set together with no stress. You border the right and bottom of each block then add long strips to the top and left side of the whole quilt.

If you mark the block with the first sashing sewed on at the half way mark, it's then super easy to line up the center for the next block being added. Hope this makes sense. Lines up every time and no missed matches...lol Babs near Tombstone AZ USA
Well, this is new to me. I’ve never heard of the asterisk standing for ditto before. Is this kind of like the pound sign # becoming the “hashtag“ now? Well, I think that if you surrounded each block with white sashing (in this case) instead of the black, it would look like individual asterisks instead of a grid. Which will give it a whole different look! 😁 *This would be a great way to use up leftover skinny scraps of 1.5”. You could make each asterisk a different color! 🌈 🌷
Love the quilt but…. I think the “ is for ditto and the * is for an unknown variable. Like if you wanted to search for Missouri but you weren’t sure if the last letter, in some search engines you could type Missour* and it would return everything that starts with missour and ends in any other letter. * can also stand for multiplication. Sorry I’ve been an auditor for 30+ years. Retiring next month. Just in time I guess. Still love the quilt and thanks for the tutorial.
I have many memories of those old mimeographed papers. My stepmom worked as a secretary in my high school and her hands were always that strange shade of purple.
Same here! My eyes started to hurt and I had to look away from the quilt and just concentrate on the sewing. Weird. Maybe there is too much contrast everywhere. Thanks, Jenny, because I can use other colors to soften it. Happy New Year to all our sewing friends!
Hey, I posted that my block came out at 5.25 inches. Well, I know why, I cut my strips at 1.5 instead of 1.75 inches. I'm not going to change it now since I have quite a few cut. I think they look fine, but did make notes to correct it ,if I make another one. So sorry for saying that the size was incorrect. I cut my squares from wof.

I'd call it a "wild card" when using it to search say family history records so I think it has many names.

Could you chain piece the triangles on the strip but leave an inch between them then sew other side, cut and then square?
