Sarah how you solve the mechanical issues is why started me watching your videos. It also made realize both the MR2 and TT are cars you lease and turn in hopefully before the factory warranty expires and then run not walk away for either of them. 🤔🏃‍♂️

TT sits nicely. Everything so shiny and new under there! You look so fine in pumpkin coloured top. A bit of flower stroking does wonders for the natural soul. Think you should spend more time communing with nature to balance the time cooped up in your garage. Glad you’re not slamming the Audi full low, ride is important and always function over form. Nearly there Sarah. Eyes on the prize

Sarah, for torquing suspension and wheel bolts with car on jacks, you can use a hydraulic floor jack to lift on hub or control arm to replicate forces and geometry when car is on its wheels. Measure distance from center of hub to reference point on fender when car is on floor and then move axle to same point when car is lifted to torque stuff.

Hi Sarah, I enjoy your videos!
I'm glad I'm not the only enthusiast that can relate to your upgraded suspension mishaps.
I replaced my 2016 Acura MDX OE struts ( leaking at 60K miles, $2,800 estimate to replace all 4 with OE, no one else makes a replacement strut) with a set of Megan Racing fully adjustable coil overs ($800 and my labor, it took 2 days to replace all 4) then I dropped my car off yesterday for an alignment, when I picked up my car, I was informed that they set my rear toe angle to spec but because the new coil overs are shorter than the OE leaking struts they can't fix the 2.5 degrees of negative camber in the rear with the static OE suspension and I need all the OE parts I was told, I'm not doing that. I found upper rear adjustable Moog ball joints (K100199, +/- 3 degrees of adjustable camber), I ordered them from Advance Auto Parts ($70) and I'm waiting for them to arrive to replace the OE ones with 60 K miles. My MDX corners a lot better with the coil overs than the OE struts but I need to fix the rear camber to save my tires. I spent a lot to make this right, but I'm still ahead of $2,800 the dealer wanted.
Keep up the great videos and show more penguins?!

We need more Sara Outdoor Adventures! When you take it to get it aligned, have them "clock the bushings" in the suspension, which is simply loosening the bolts going through bushings then torque to spec with the weight of the car on the suspension. You might have them jounce the suspension while its all loose. That will help it settle evenly.

To torque suspension arms at normal ride height, I’ll use a jack under the edge of the rotor (with a couple of nuts, if needed, to lock the rotor to the hub), raise it up to normal ride height, torque it, then let it back down. For my Mazda 6, the service manual actually lists the distance from the top of the wheel opening to the centre of the spindle, so no guessing. Otherwise, for most cars, if the lower arm is roughly parallel to the floor, that’s probably close enough.

I think you did a great job. What I like the most you don't cut any corners. You finish the job with out putting rusty bolts, frayed wires dried out hoses, or any other crap. You call it being add I call it being professional. Rub issues will cause expensive damage. Your not a stance boi if you were, I might not watch this channel. You have stated your selling this car. Any who has seen this series will know what they are buying is a quality car, with work that has been done properly. If I were in the market for a Audi TT this would be one of the first on my list. I know you will do a proper job on the drive train, and I know it is not rusted out. I need a much larger vehicle because I have a family. I I could afford a third car just for fun, I would be interested. You've done a great job so far and after watching the job you did on you did on Mr dos the MR 2. I have no doubt you will finish the TT and it will awesome.

To tighten suspension components under the "car;s weight" you can either put wooden blocks under the car's tires to lift it up, OR, you can put a jack under each knuckle and lift it up to ride height one at a time.

To tighten the bolts when the car is of the ground, put a jack under your lower control arm and jack it up until it the weight of the car is on the jack just barely touching the jack stand(be safe). That will load your suspension to mimic the way it will sit on the ground, then torque your bolts.

you could buy a set of ramps to drop the car onto to load the suspension, thus giving you the clearance you need to get under the car to tighten the suspension bolts. Otherwise you will tear those bushings over time.
I just installed Bilstein HD shocks on my LS400 and had to torque the lower bolts to 116lbft so with that amount of torque, those bushings aren't moving and would've torn also. I used my Rhino ramps to drop the car onto and it gave me just the amount of space I needed to get under there.

  • @braydentaylor5805

And thank YOU for making this video! I can't get over how weird that rear suspension setup is, looks like you wouldn't be able to put a true coilover out back and still put wheels on. I just got my rear coilovers on yesterday, got the ride height dialed in today. It's not very low, but the ride height now makes it so I don't scrape on every speed bump. Plus the front A arms are pretty close to parallel to the ground and on that compromised design, parallel to the ground means less camber change during suspension movement.
The stance of your potato looks great to me!

if you end up unsatisfied with the front drop, you can always remove the tender spring to get more adjustment. On the torquing down of suspension part, I usually use the jack to lift the corner til it starts coming up and torque everything then to mimic the car being on the ground!

When I put (admittedly cheap) coil-overs from an S3 on mine TT I suffered terrible coil bind at whatever height it was set. I solved it by binning the pointless helper springs and gutless main coils and doing some maths to find a spring from a Motorsport supplier that was the right rating to increase Spring travel and have the right loaded length to drop the car more than the spring and helper set up. I was then able to jack the height back up to a purposeful buy everyday useable stance.

Hi, I have just done this to my 2001 mk1 roadster project car and found the limiting factor was the factory drop links. I ended up changing for adjustable drop links and the the car sat much better on pre load and then once put on the floor, the car has a much better stance. You have to test the ride height with the wheels on lock during set up because that determines the minimum height you can set the springs and then lift from there.

You should use those blocks people put their cars wheels on to keep the car high enough to tighten the suspension hardware and still be able to fit under while the suspension is settled. Just a suggestion.

Push the hub from underneath with the jack to loosen the tension on suspension - it even rhymes. This way it will be much easier to remove bolts.

When the car is jacked up take your floor jack and put it under the end of the control arm. Jack up your control arm until the corner of the car starts to lift. Now your suspension is under full preload and you can tighten the nuts/bolts on your suspension so your bushings are not loaded up and keeping your car from settling.

david kaehele yep this. However the sway bar has to be disconnected for this to work, otherwise it will start to lift before the wheel gets to the actual ride height position.

Regarding tightening the bolts with the weight of the car on the suspension, the way I've dealt with that in the past is to make a stack of two or three 2 by 6s and put them under each wheel, and then lower the car onto them. This gets you an extra few inches to get under there and tighten all the fasteners.

While your car is up on the quick Jack's use your floor jack to lift up on the ball joint area of the lower control arm. Doesn't need to be perfect just approximately at ride height. Also I hope to still see small Sarah in the videos every now and then. Her crazy would seriously be missed.

Answer to your question is to bring the axle up to ride height with a garage jack before you torque down all the suspension bolts. Can be tricky working on the ground, but the only way without a full car hoist.
Your bushings will crack if you neglect to do this with a lowered car.

To tighten the bushings at ride height while on a lift. Just put a jack on the lower control arm lift it till the vehicle weight is on that arm. Then tighten. Easy peasy.

Sarah I removed the front helper springs on my Bilstein B16's. Same on the b14's. To get the fronts lower the helper spring needs to come out. :-) Its something we all do to our mk1 TT's on Bilsteins coils here in the uk.

Wow that was fast, it was only this morning that I saw it unfinished. Nice job on the suspension, I think it looks good the way it currently sits.
