You know, I never realized Sarah had real clean fingers and cool looking nails!
It just goes to show you, you can work on a vehicle and keep clean! Mechanics get a bad rap for being dirty. Been wrenching for 30 years and my hands and nails are just as clean as the day I was born. Keep up the good work!! Cheers.

Wow that ocular is pretty close! I made pressure bleeder out of a weed sprayer... And made my own caps for the brake systems I use it on.. Was cheap and pretty easy to make. I have always used my hand vacuum tool to clean out the master and filed it with new fluid and then bleed the system... Saves getting the air in. Seems tow work well... Good that you have people that willed you tools!

The paint job on the rear calipers came out great! Plus, am I the only person that finds the clicking of a torque wrench satisfying? I use mine on nearly every mechanical fastener.

Also your quirky sense of humor is awesome. You're very genuine and that's rare to see these days on TH-cam or in real life world lol.

Just as a future reference if you spray the calipers white first for a base coat and then apply your mixed color afterwards you will get a far closer match as just putting your final color over the raw metal itself will make your mixed color look darker than what it should be. Whereas if you put your mixed color over top of a white surface it will pop and be far more accurate of a match. Not critiquing just getting some experience that I've learned from the years. Love the channel and keep doing what you doing

The compress and twist calipers are the ones which combine rear and parking brake functions. The twisting comes from the self adjust mechanism of the parking brake function.
There is a tool for those, comes with a bunch of adaptors to fit every type and it's not expensive.

  • @mawe42
    @mawe42 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Good paint matching!
    Tip for next time:
Depress the brake pedal until you get light pressure and keep it there with a stick. Then you can open up the brake lines without loosing much of the brake fluid.
Its always better to not introduce air into the system even if the plan is to flush everything out.

You can buy a universal kit of different presses for brakes. The proper tools are easier, they remove the risk of pushing the pucks / pistons back at an angle, and they're not expensive given how much brake work you end up doing in a lifetime. Also, Happy New Year, and thanks for the snow video. I've spent the last few days on the beach here in the NZ summer.

Brilliant! It was worthwhile calculating the spacers so painstakingly! Neat trick with the plastic bag and zip tie! AWESOME JOB Sarah! Tip for next time: I understand that if you had fixed the brake pedal in the depressed position, you could have waited with bleeding until the calipers were re-mounted, ensuring that no air would enter the system (but I don't know Audi so could be wrong). Change of topic: sometime you'll need to take some R&R, to take care of yourself. You're driving yourself very hard. All the best, Rob in Switzerland.

I get having to use weird tools to replace disc brake pads. I was always used to collapsing the piston with a c-clamp, but couldn't on my '84 Z28, '85 IROC and my '87 IROC. All 3 had the JL8 4 wheel disc option and to collapse the pistons you needed a special tool to do it. It was about a 1" square junk of steel with a 3/8" drive opening on one side and two little nubs, on opposite corners, across from it. You had to turn and squeeze to get them seated. Luckily it only cost about $4 at Pep Boys. Keep at it kid, it'll all come together.

Hope you will read this....i changed brake hoses last year against braided stainless steel hoses and to not having the brake lines drip all over and have the hydraulic unit bleed out just fully press down the brake pedal and fix it in the depressed position. That way you won't lose brake fluid and won't drip this crap all over everything. Helped me loads when replacing these brake hoses. Oh and by the way..... these front brakes are sketchy as hell! Not having a properly centered brake disc is a nono for me.... wouldn't fit this stuff (i'm very big on driving safety) and certainly would want my money back. Wish you a handful of air around the car at all times.

I bled the brakes on my VW Bora (Jetta in the US) at the weekend and looks like I bled them in the wrong order 😂 Had the same weird green brake fluid come out as well. It's worth getting the proper tool to wind in the rear callipers as in 95k miles I've changed the rear discs/pads twice but haven't touched the fronts. I now have calliper envy looking at yours. Keep the videos coming in 2019...!!!

need more eurobeat for 2019. nice match on the paint job...actually, you only really need to paint the out half of the caliper as that is the the only part that is visible from outside the car through the wheel. HF has a brake piston kit that allow you to twist & turn or you can rent them from you local auto parts retailers (assuming they are not being rented at that time). when you transition cut scenes, you can move your hand in front of your face and that would a sign for transition when editing...
still can't believe that Ksport couldn't get the rotor hat correct for the TT with customizable 2-piece rotor/hat design. that is the whole point of going 2-piece, one rotor, multiple hats for multiple cars (and sometimes lighter design)

    Loving the TT.
I've always wanted to do a TDI swap in one of the first gens with a 150-200hp ALH, or maybe a V6 TDI out of a taureg.
Really like the lesser desired of the A4 platforms, no one expects 200+ horsepower out of a TDI beetle. not that the factory 100HP one i have is really that sluggish...
But i cant decide which A4 i want to build on. I currently have 2 newbeetles. an 06 tdi with the DSG that im scared to touch, and a 2000 gas with the 4 speed auto.
Would love to do an AWD V6 TDI swap into a mk4 jetta... but on the other hand it would be really easy to do an ALH swap in a TT and get pretty much the same result.

HAPPY NEW YEAR .. I think the color match was damn good .... only you and your OCD would be critical .... by the way, I drive an '09 Mini Cooper S and the rear caliper pistons work the same way .. pain in the ass .. did find an inexpensive compression kit at Harbor Freight, but how many times are you going to need it? ... Looking forward for what you have in store for 2019
