Braided Crochet Scarf Tutorial

- This braided scarf crochet pattern uses the Jacob’s Ladder technique to create the look of “braids” or cables running vertically along the length of the scarf. It is a simple technique that creates lots of design interest.
The front loop single crochet stitch between the chains creates a nice contrasting line to the braids. All of this detail in this scarf pattern looks especially nice with a solid color yarn that can really make the texture stand out.

Love scarf. It's the Jacob's Ladder, I've been doing for years.( didn't know it was also called braided.
Thank you for your Inspiration 😊 just finished my New years project
Yay!! So happy to hear this!
Quite unusual pattern..
I love it! I want to attempt with two colors
it worked up great for me! very satisfying to make
For a normal size scarf how many crochets will requard ?
If i was to make this into a baby blanket now.long would i make the chain and how many yards?
Hello and Thank you for this pattern, it is pretty and awesomely easy. Just what I was looking for. Could you please tell me what the multiples would be, I know you foundation sc27, is it any equal amount plus 1 if I decide to make this scarf a bit wider.
Hi there! It is a multiple of 8 plus 3. Sorry to take so long to reply!
Lovely definition from the braided stitch! thank you for this interesting design. Do you think this will work well if I just joined the 2 ends to make it an infinity scarf? Wonder whether the braided "join" will look untidy.
I think you could make it quite seamless by skipping the finishing step at the end where you do one last row of sc. Instead, attach your two ends. Then, take the last chain 8 loop of each row and sew it into the bottom of the first chain 8 loops of the other end of the scar. Hope that makes sense!
@Cute As A Button Crochet & Craft thanks for the suggestion!

Could this braided stitch be done without using the front loop only to create a scarf? Is the FLO required to make the braid/jacob's ladder?
You could definitely do it without the FLO. The FLO just makes the lines between the braids look more pronounced. If you don't use it you will just not have as much definition on those lines.
Hi there, if we want to make the scarf wider, how many stitches do we need to add to our beginning chain?
It seems like you can add 8 stitches (7 FSC for in between the braids + 1 stitch for the braid)
yes, the pattern is a multiple of 8, plus 3
Can i do this with HDC or DC?
You could certainly give it a try. You might want to add more chains for each loop that gets braided if you find the taller stitches make the loops stretch too much.
